I bought the Duo a week ago. It is very good, but it's a huge oversight that there is NO limiter and that the Master Compellor only works on the ENTIRE output (so it compresses the Desktop audio too which just doesn't sound right...) Since I like yelling into the microphone in my videos, I tried doing it on the Duo without the Compellor and my ears almost exploded. :( If only there was a way to have an actual Limiter setting or have the Compellor only affect your mic sound - the Rodecaster would be basically the best audio hardware for UA-camrs EVER.
Thanks for the suggestion, @RADALGANG, will pass it onto the team. The closest we have at the moment would be using the compressor on your tracks and setting the ratio to 4.5:1, but it sounds like you're aware of that method already!
Great video and great job on explaining the differences with simple terms. This is my first time getting into the podcasting space and the break down helped me make my decision. Thank you 👍
I've heard the the record button is virtual now on the Duo. I like the manual record button on the RCP2 that lights up, but could be smaller in future designs.
Also would be nice if RODE could build a feature to desi chain any of those together, even with previous versions. Imagine ? Via a cable you can just increase your faders or some slave/master features. They will litteraly vampirise that market.
I have the Rodecaster Pro, and Now the PRO 2. And I need to sit down and look my set up, how to dial in them both. But I am interested in the RODE Due and the Streamer x because the space and functions they serve. There are times it is just me recording . Thank you @RODE for making this content.
As a content creator I beg you rode! Please implement these features. I just received my rodecasterduo today and now I'm considering returning it for a goxlr because of the following: 1. Can the RODEcaster Pro II control application level volume such as Spotify, Google Chrome, Discord, etc. using the physical faders on the device like the GoXLR can? 2. Does the RODEcaster Pro II capture sound on the fly that can then be replayed using the smart pads. (Like the goxlr) 3. From what I understand, the current RODEcaster Pro II firmware has a “Chat” software output similar to the GoXLR. Are there plans to add other outputs similar to the GoXLR such as “System”, “Music”, and “Game” outputs?
1. Using the RCP2 currently, there are up to five different channels you can use as inputs from different PC audio sources. Here's a quick guide to help you understand and use these existing capabilities: • USB1 Input: This input has two separate channels - "main" and "chat". You could route different audio sources through these two channels. For example, you could use "main" for your game audio and "chat" for any VoIP application like Discord or Zoom. • USB2 Input: This channel can be used for any other audio source that you want to separate from the ones routed through USB1. This could be your music or any other sound you want to bring into your stream. • PC Line Out: If your PC has a line out, you can use this as an input into the RØDECaster Pro II. This can be useful for routing audio that isn't easily directed through a USB input, such as browser audio or system sounds. If you've never used your PC's line out output before, it's an 3.5mm headphone-style jack which is right next to your PC's headphone jack. • Bluetooth Input: This allows you to route audio from any Bluetooth-capable device. In order to route these sound sources in Windows, you will need to go to the Sound Control Panel. Here's a quick step-by-step guide: • Right-click on the speaker icon in your system tray and choose "Open Sound settings." • Scroll down to "Advanced sound options" and click on "App volume and device preferences." • Here you can control the output and input devices for each of your open applications. You can choose where you want each sound source to go, whether that be the "main" or "chat" channel on your USB1 input, your USB2 input, your line out, or your Bluetooth input. There’s been a lot of discussion about this issue and we hear you loud and clear. We understand that you're eagerly awaiting the update that will allow the addition of extra virtual devices through the USB inputs. 2. Yes- create a new SMART Pad, and then hit record. 3. Yes- this functionality will be coming in a future update as previously mentioned.
I have both units and have been testing out the Duo. I was wondering if it was normal that some of the settings cant be matched to my RCP2 EQ settings, for example trying to match the (Exciter) i noticed that i can do a 70hz cut on the RCP2 and on the Duo it goes from 68hz to 72hz and anything in-between is not there. Not sure if thats normal for the duo. Im going to be making s video soon explaining that and hopefully that can allow you guys to get some user feeback and we can all work together to make the Duo an even better experience for everyone who buys it. I love mine so far and i havent really found much that would make me want to send it back.
It's probably because the software is made for RCP II and its physical controls, but the amount that the Duo's physical knobs turn isn't the same so the values end up different.
@kaamostruecrime right on, thats what i was starting to think. I figured it was worth mentioning to see if this was normal for the little unit to do based on perhaps Hardware limitations. Its not a deal breaker for me but others may not like that the unit skips frequency range that way.
Are you guys planning to get a firmware update to fix the terrible dac quality? There’s a lot of people mentioning the issue, for people who are interesting in getting one to replace our current audio interface it’s a must! Monitors speaker and headphones got terrible audio noise…
Can you connect the Rode Wireless Go II in addition to the 4 analog mic inputs to get 2 additional mic inputs? How many total (analog + wireless) mics can you connect to the Rodecaster Pro II?
The RØDECaster Pro II's inbuilt wireless receiver currently allows you to connect up to 2x Series IV wireless transmitters, for right now these take up a physical mic inputs on your faders, so the maximum number of mic inputs still remains 4. We are working on a firmware update to provide USB mic hosting so that this can be expanded, however so stay tuned for more updates!
Time-code feature in both units present? Can send time-code info to lets say an ATEM-mini, and then send the time-code info to all cameras from the ATEM-mini?
my question is on the DUO: if I have both microphone inputs, can I also use my wireless go AND have a phone call go thru all at once? That would make it 4 audios used at the same time on the duo. Is that possible?
So with the current configuration, you can connect your phone via the Bluetooth or USB2 connection, but you can't have more than two physical mic inputs (not inc. the headset) on the Duo. This means you will need to use your wireless receiver connected to the front headset jack (via TRS to TRRS cable - like the SC7), to use all four devices at once.
@@rodemic nice. Thanks for answering my question and understanding what I’m able to do with the duo. I’m praying you guys have a sale sometime soon. Lol.
Add a limiter and a *downwards expander* to these two devices please. A downwards expander is really helpful to attenuate moderate background noise and improve the audio signal even further. Currently, when the noise gate opens it's just open and there's nothing that attenuates background noise with a certain type of ratio. Push this to the team and make it happen, it will be huge for this product, an extra layer of noise removal.
Hey there @BersekeR._., thanks for your comment about potentially featuring a downward expander and limiter on the RØDECaster Pro II. We'll send your suggestion onto the team!
The White Edition of the DUO absolutely inspired me. Is there also a white edition from the big one? That would be awesome. Can you actually use 2 Rodecaster devices on one PC? To have more channels? Or is it still on the roadmap that you can add channels?
Hey there @nerdiix!! Thanks for the kind words about the #RØDEWhiteCollection - it's inspired us as well. You can currently use two RØDECaster devices with the same PC (help.rode.com/hc/en-us/articles/7341828987791-How-to-use-two-R%C3%98DECaster-Series-units-into-a-Windows-computer) or Mac (help.rode.com/hc/en-us/articles/7374792347023-How-to-use-two-R%C3%98DECaster-Series-units-into-a-Mac-computer). We are currently working on an update to allow users to use more virtual audio devices over USB1, but we can't say exactly when that will land.
👋 Hey there, you can connect two RØDE Wireless Series IV transmitters (Wireless GO II or Wireless ME) to the RØDECaster Duo or Pro II. Just note that currently, these mics must take the place of your XLR/combo inputs, instead of being used in addition to those inputs, but this may change in the future.
Hi, how can I turn on the wireless receiver in my RCP2 with RODE central? please provide me with all the steps. In the other hand, we - as blind people - are still waiting for an accessible update for Rode central compatible with our screen readers, especially in windows. Thanks for everything. My best regards.❤
I only have one request for the future iteration of the RCP 2 series - better sound pads, preferably pressure and velocity sensitive ones like the Akai MPC Live II
Next time it will be a big version. I need one ! (Or the possibility to plug two together and create a big one ! It would be great 😊) An annoying thing is the lost of the countdown with the smart pads. It was on the rodecaster pro 1 but not on the 2. (Knowing exactly when a recorded interview will stop for example, can be useful)
Hey Todd- the way the internal reciever is currently setup in the Duo and Pro II, it can only replace an existing mic channel. And although these devices now support USB mics like the PodMic USB, this support does not extend to the recievers of Wireless devices at this time. So not quite 4 inputs, although, if you had a Wireless GO II, and a USB mic like a PodMic USB, you could easily get 3 inputs.
Yes! We've brought back this sought-after function from the original RØDECaster Pro and even gave it a TRRS connection for an additional input option 🫡
how to check SC4 cable genuine or not. As the price is high there are many copy profuct avaiable in market. How can I identify a cable whether it is genuine or not.
We don't have any updates on the RØDECaster series at this stage, but feel free to reach out to our team through info@rode.com with your feedback and they'll be happy to pass this on to our team for reference!
Any chance of adding the ability to add more 'virtual' stereo inputs via USB? I would like to control my music as well as the stream alert audio via faders without using the chat audio which I actually want to use for chat. My current solution is using the stream alert audio via input 2 mono, and using music through USB's stereo, but that limits my stream alert audio to mono.
Hey there @Nephanor, we're currently working on an update to be able to use more virtual sources with the RØDECaster Pro II and RØDECaster Duo. We can't say exactly when it will be released but we are aware it's very important to streamers like yourself!
@@rodemic Will this include virtual outputs as well as virtual inputs? With places like twitch allowing us to split music audio so it doesn't appear in VODs, having extra outputs is equally important
Hey there- you can't do that on the Duo, only on the RØDECaster Pro II. When you connect a transmitter to the unit, it can only replace an existing XLR combo input.
@@rodemic I get it, but I still recommend that the wireless microphone of Rode can be expanded, which will also increase the willingness to purchase the overall Rode equipment. Thanks.
Thanks for the feedback- will pass it onto the team. You could also use a RØDE USB microphone in the USB2 port, so in addition to the two wireless microphones you could have three high quality microphones in total using the Duo.
I want to buy RCP2 but hearing so many issues with the device, I’m considering to get RCP1. My question is, will RODE continue to support / update the firmware for the RCP1?
Hey there Dante, the RØDECaster Pro original will still be supported with firmware updates to address bug fixes and stability, however there's no new feature updates on the roadmap for it at the moment. We'd recommend the RØDECaster Pro II as it we're continually working on updates to make the unit more user-friendly and better for a multitude of applications.
Hey there- the answer to this question could be 20 pages long but here are a few reasons you might want a RØDECaster instead of using a RØDE USB mic with UNIFY. - USB connectivity to add audio from a phone (and a limited number of other devices) to your stream - Physical faders and buttons while you're streaming Ultimately, if you're after a more simple setup, UNIFY would be for you though.
Question: I have the Shure MV7 microphone (the USB and XLR version). I prefer using the USB over XLR output for the mic. Can I input the Shure MV7 using the USB C cable into the RodeCaster Duo and will it work?
No, not at this stage. The Wireless receivers will take up the physical mic inputs with the current implementation. You can use a headset mic at the same time no problems!
Hey there, these are our premium XLR cables, and they come in 7 different colors, which can really help keep your mics and channels color coded if you're trying to keep things consistent in a studio. They also look sweet. Check them out here: rode.com/en/accessories/adaptors-cables/xlr-to-xlr
Please build a rodecaster STUDIO edition for those of us with larger professional studios, or update firmware to allow us to connect / chain multiple rodecaster pro 2's together. Please. 🙏🏼
Hey there, thanks for your feedback about our RØDECaster series- we appreciate it. We'll pass it onto the team. If you'd like to use two RØDECasters with the same computer to create multitrack recordings with more sources than one RØDECaster will allow, that is possible: help.rode.com/hc/en-us/articles/7341828987791-How-to-use-two-R%C3%98DECaster-Series-units-into-a-Windows-computer
@@rodemic will this work in OBS too for live streaming? 🤔 If that's the case it might be a great fix for our studio instead of going 1/4 inch out from my second Rodecaster into the quarter inch input on my main rodecaster.
Are there any updates coming for the rcp2. It kinda seems like you set expectations very high a year ago and then just trickled in decently sized update with big caveats(wireless connectivity, but it takes a physical channel). What happened to the road map to updating this unit. I paid a lot of money expecting some awesome things coming. And so far have been less than impressed.. I have A LOT of money into your ecosystem, but I’m starting to wonder if another ecosystem might be in the future. Sorry for the paragraph. But I’d sincerely just love some transparency.
Yes! There are significant updates on the roadmap including a system enhancements to make the system run quicker, USB mic compatibility and more virtual channels for USB. Stay tuned for updates on this soon!
Hey there, the headphone output power of the RØDECaster Duo is 250mW, so yes, that will be enough to power 250ohm headphones. There are also different headphone modes (high sensitivity, low sensitivity) on the RØDECaster Duo to power different types of headphones.
hmmmm Rodecaster DUO (555€) vs Rodecaster Pro II (659€) sry but i would always recommend the Rodecaster Pro II The price difference is too small to forgo the features of the Rodecaster Pro II.
Only having 3 virtual channels is super underwhelming for any streamer. Especially when to use all three for three different programs you have to actually plug both usb c's to one pc. Just update it with 4-6 virtual channels per usb and we're talking a superb product for streamers, but as it stands its lackluster sadly.
Thanks for the feedback - we are developing firmware updates which will give people who are after more virtual channels over USB even more flexibility, which we will be rolling out soon!
@@rodemic As Im currently after a product to replace my goxlr I will take your word for it and order one. This product would literally be perfect with more virtual channels.
Hello Rode please Collaborate and Cooperate with Oppo Smartphone and Vivo Smartphone to create world-class smartphones build in with world-class microphones
So 2 years ago the Rode procaster 2 was released. Since then people have been requesting more virtual channels FOR 2 YEARS! And you still have nothing to show for it? why is the development of the firmware and support for the hardware so slow?
hi red things over things that could make things easier show sounds or mic a little too low or high they could be nice with pucenters then you can house show you duck something straight ducks the ones at the back easy adjust the sound to the style you wanted probably a little too big ing perhaps, but I think they are only good for headphones and a mic so that you can have the exact sounds you want to hit
Half the inputs+an additional headphone jack output+convenient size for more than half the price. It really comes down to convenient size only. From a smart purchase pov, which can the less, can the more. But if you go low and find yourself to need more later, you're stuck.
While there is no direct way to allow for this many microphones at this stage, the RCPII will allow you to use up to 5 microphones by having 4 connected via the combo jack inputs and 1 compatible USB RØDE microphone via USB2 such as the PodMic USB!
@@rodemic ok I have a 5 mic set up with the 5th mic being the xdm-100. However I have an issue, how do I monitor the sound when all the headphones are in use? There aren't any ports left...

Can the 3.5 mm TRRS on the rodecaster duo be used for audio monitoring ?
Yep- the TRRS port is designed for headphones.
How does RØDECaster Duo compare with Rode Unify software? Besides XLR & Bluetooth connectivity I don't see much difference ?
Hey there- the answer to this question could be 20 pages long but here are a few reasons you might want a RØDECaster instead of using a RØDE USB mic with UNIFY.
- USB connectivity to add audio from a phone (and a limited number of other devices) to your stream
- Physical faders and buttons while you're streaming
Ultimately, if you're after a more simple setup, UNIFY would be for you though.
@@rodemic Thank you
Question: I have the Shure MV7 microphone (the USB and XLR version). I prefer using the USB over XLR output for the mic. Can I input the Shure MV7 using the USB C cable into the RodeCaster Duo and will it work?
No, not at this stage. You will need to use it over XLR with the RØDECaster Series
@@rodemic Many thanks!
Can I have two XLR microphones AND two Wireless Go II's on the Rodecaster Duo at the same time?
No, not at this stage. The Wireless receivers will take up the physical mic inputs with the current implementation. You can use a headset mic at the same time no problems!
@@rodemic I could then use a Rode SC7 TRS/TRRS to plug the Wireless Go II Receiver though the headset port?
Question, I have a dual pc setup, can these products be connected to both pc's at the same time?
Yes they can via the second USB port!
What brand xlr color wired is that?look nice all colored
@@rodemicgood to hear! I look forward to seeing great things!
Can the PC Dou support 600ohm headphone?
Yes it can!
hello , roadcaster duo good for headphones 250 ohms ?
Hey there, the headphone output power of the RØDECaster Duo is 250mW, so yes, that will be enough to power 250ohm headphones. There are also different headphone modes (high sensitivity, low sensitivity) on the RØDECaster Duo to power different types of headphones.
@@rodemic thanks .
@@rodemic rodecaster pro 2 can work with to two pc ?
can i use rodecaster pro ii in radio statiion?
Yep! To learn more about how you might use it in a radio station, check the user guide here: rode.com/en/user-guides/rodecaster-pro-ii
Awesome & Thanks :)
No problem!
Which Mic recorded this video?
It looks like a Rode Wireless Go II based on what she said in the video
This is recorded with an NTG3 boomed overhead, the Wireless GO II is there for backup!
@@rodemic Thanks for the info!
Yaaay, a better alternative to the goxlr \uwu/
Would be nice to know the pros of the Duo over the Pro 1. 😁
honestly, just size and the front input jack.
@@samfraulino nah, more details are welcome.
The CPU/exact gain etc...
I wish we could daisy chain two RCP2 or RCDUO together via usb c or CAT6 cable
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! We'll be sure to pass this on to our development team for their awareness :)
hmmmm Rodecaster DUO (555€) vs Rodecaster Pro II (659€) sry but i would always recommend the Rodecaster Pro II
The price difference is too small to forgo the features of the Rodecaster Pro II.
Since then people have been requesting more virtual channels
FOR 2 YEARS!
How much do you want to bet that this advert wasn't created using it.
Can the Rodecasters accept line-level inputs, like synths? You show a band at 0:28 but it isn't clear what is plugged into the Rodecaster.
Yes both accept line-in!
@@rodemic Awesome! Thank you.
Key difference is lack of cool rec button :-/
You still have the cool button on the screen though?
@@rodemic it is not as cool
y cuando mejoran la firma de la rodebrocaster 1 deberían de mejorar la calidad o dejarnos regresar a otra versión
Half the inputs+an additional headphone jack output+convenient size for more than half the price. It really comes down to convenient size only. From a smart purchase pov, which can the less, can the more. But if you go low and find yourself to need more later, you're stuck.
Holla at me when its atleast $150-200 cheaper
Way overpriced for half the features
i have a 6 mic set up for my podcast - is there a way to connect to rodecaster pro ii and the duo?
While there is no direct way to allow for this many microphones at this stage, the RCPII will allow you to use up to 5 microphones by having 4 connected via the combo jack inputs and 1 compatible USB RØDE microphone via USB2 such as the PodMic USB!
@@rodemic ok I have a 5 mic set up with the 5th mic being the xdm-100. However I have an issue, how do I monitor the sound when all the headphones are in use? There aren't any ports left...
