The lack of 4k is a big bummer. My guess is that the main issue isn't the cost of the capture inputs, but that it will record 7 video files at once (the cut version and each input). Bumping all 7 simultaneous recordings up to 4k would require a TON more processing power, on top of the higher end capture inputs. This would be even more expensive than I initially thought.

But don't forget this has a RC Duo built-in if it's enough for you.. I think you probably miss a lot of things this device can do...I suggest you watch the huge amount of videos on YT about it.
4K would be nice, but considering the cheapest 4K video mixer I would consider is an extra $600 is SDI which requires either adapters or SDI cameras and needs a seperate audio mixer it’s just to expensive to do 4K right now
No one in the video sphere does ultrawide, specially in streaming, and podcast. That would be a feature for 0.001% people and the price would go super crazy high.
Have you tested how it handles RGB colors from a computer source? All switchers in the Atem Mini series have issues with colors when a computer is connected to one of the inputs due to the legal color range (16-235 instead of 0-255), making light gray completely white and dark gray completely black.
Yeah, it's my main complaint with the ATEM, is if you want to use a port to display a computer or something for simpler management, especially for live productions - the colors aren't correct and you can't fix it. It's fine for most standard cameras, so I end up needing to import my laptop, as an example, via a separate capture card which just adds additional costs and more points of failures in the pipeline. I currently have the ATEM Mini, a Elgato HD60s, some cheap knock off external, and the 4K aver media interal card. I also have an extra camlink laying around, though I have had a lot of issues with them randomly disconnecting so I took it out of my workflow. But as you can tell, that's 7 inputs. I don't always use them all, but something that can simplify would be swell. I also have two extra inputs that are just USB cameras. In the end, I have a fairly complex setup for my live shows and this could help simplify some of it, even if it has a very steep learning curve. Sounds like once I have it setup the way I want, it can be a set and forget solution where I turn on and off certain things (like auto switching) when I feel like it.
Does the first USB input work like a webcam simulator? Like could it be picked up as a video/mic for an app like zoom or WebX? And when you set up all those custom scenes, do they get saved into the device so that it can be used portably?
Multi-Track/multi-angle video editing isn't that hard nowadays there are plugins like Auto cut or Auto pod that can do this for you in premiere. I'm not sure if DaVinci resolve has plugins like that but it makes it so much easier on premiere Pro.
8:18 ahh.. that answers my question of how it might work with communication software like Zoom or Teams or Skype. (which have severe limitations given how devices like this work as they compress or lower fps depending on the Source of content you are showing)
I love the concept of this, but I don't have desk space since I have too many office toys already lol. Any idea of software options or OBS plugins that do the auto switching camera + audio input w/ priority?

So many things your review are so, so cool, but I have absolutely no use for any of it. This being one of them. Lol (Im not upset about this. Keep the reviews coming)
man, not having displays in the buttons like on the elgato streamdecks is such a loser move for a device like this. customizeable looks of the buttons to show what they are doing is quite essential. what the F do i know what camera i did set to 1 2 3 4 5 and what scenes to a b c d e. interesting device though, but no way that pc streamers gonna use that vs a streaming pc with obs and an proper set up elgato stream deck.
Yeah, and when you switch to the alternators you have a whole new set of abcde. Feels like a misstep as I have to memorize a lot, or have a "key" next to it to remember on the fly. I suppose if this was being used by a behind the camera manager, it may not be bad. But I THINK the intent, is for this to replace someone behind the scenes. Which means during. alive production or podcast, it looks weird for me to be reading a sheet to remember what is set to what. At least on the Rodecast pro 2, they let me color coordinate the pads. So I can remember hey, if it's orange, that's a voice modifier. If it's green, that's a sound effect, if it's red that's the bleep button. But even then because they are just touch pads, not screens, I don't use all the pages worth because it would be too much for me to remember. And I do know pads are, generally, more responsive then screen buttons. Still... at least let us color the pads on this? Color coding is easy to remember.
No video mixer does that, that’s what a multiview is for! You can name the inputs on the multiview, and the buttons change colour when selected for preview or program.
That is the perfect thing to use on online teaching, especially multi scene/capture card for my wife. But damn, too expensive for us. Great product still
I’m 49, I have a 24 and a 17 year old son and we have decided to start a group streaming channel. They have both gaming PC’s . I have a regular PC. HP. A PS5 and the 17 yr old has a PS5. We want to be able to stream and show the other 2 streamers Live in our stream. I was thinking I’d just use a 2cnd monitor and split the screen. But with this; maybe I can just throw them up on my monitor. I’m new to this. Your info is helpful but some of your acronyms and coined names I have to google. I’m starting to feel a bit intimidated by all of this. Custom building a motorized desk. Lava epoxy with RGB. Feel like I should just hire some to do the electronics I need turnkey.
Looks great, but the fact that it's not 4k in 2024 is crazy at that price. Just makes it unusable for someone like me in Content creation. I've been begging for a 4k ATEM Mini-like product for 3 years now.
Yeah, at the price they want I was thinking this has to be closer to say $800? Around the pro 2 pricing at most. At that price, it has to have the top tier bells and whistles, that includes 4k. Preferably 4k60 tbh.
I was ready to sell my setup and go with this. Until it was revealed no 4K. That’s a big L. With 4K @ $1500 I would have stared selling blood to get the funds together.
Limited multi-camera control when compared to competitor products. Lack of physical video faders, making live switching more challenging. The preview screen often doesn’t display the full resolution, causing discrepancies between what’s previewed and what goes live. The menu system is difficult to navigate, particularly when switching between video and audio functions. Overheating during extended use, especially with multiple video inputs. No 4K support, limiting its use for high-end productions. Inconsistent wireless microphone connectivity, causing audio disruptions. Latency when switching between video sources. Limited customization of graphic overlays. USB-C functionality struggles when managing both audio and video inputs at the same time. No multistreaming feature without external help. A steep learning curve, especially for new users. Lack of a battery-powered option, which reduces portability. Limited onboard storage, necessitating external drives for larger projects. Audio sync issues with video during longer recordings. No HDMI output scaling, making resolution matching across devices challenging. Lack of a built-in streaming platform for simplified streaming. Limited post-production flexibility. The bulky design makes it less suitable for compact setups. The price point doesn’t fully justify the feature set compared to other products in the market.
If you're wondering what the black bars are on the side of some of the shots, I shoot in open-gate (taller footage) so that's just what the HDMI signal from my camera looks like. For the custom scenes, I resized the footage to fit. The more you know.

I was bummed on it not being able to record 4k also. Streaming at 1080p is fine, but not being able to record in 4k 👎
Can you plug 2 of these units together with the USB Type C?
So many things your review are so, so cool, but I have absolutely no use for any of it. This being one of them. Lol (Im not upset about this. Keep the reviews coming)
No thoughts, just engagement.
man, not having displays in the buttons like on the elgato streamdecks is such a loser move for a device like this.
customizeable looks of the buttons to show what they are doing is quite essential.
what the F do i know what camera i did set to 1 2 3 4 5 and what scenes to a b c d e.
interesting device though, but no way that pc streamers gonna use that vs a streaming pc with obs and an proper set up elgato stream deck.
No 4K up to 60fps = dealbreaker. They shot themselves in the foot with that decision. It's DOA.
Why dont you Review the Boss GogCatser Mixer
When is it going to be available?
Amazing Product but no 4K video which is crazy at that price point & a non starter for me.
Does it get hot or does it have fans running?
Amazing ❤
why is the aspect ratio of the video all over the place?
That is the perfect thing to use on online teaching, especially multi scene/capture card for my wife. But damn, too expensive for us. Great product still
That is an awesome Rodecaster Video. I like it, but too bad I can't afford it.
that would be a dream but 1200 is so far outa my budget i cant afford anything like it
have you been spray painting things without gloves on?
I can imagine some people could a) fully utilise this, and b) justify the cost, but... not me...
The Rode mixers are pretty fragile. Always having issues with both the Caster Pro and Duo.
🔥🔥🔥
Emoji 😶Engagement. Words. Comment. Done. 💯
Rode, if you read this, please give us the 4K version and Twitch alerts plus some other goodies...🤞🙏
Engagement 💪
Would kill for this for my cooking contet, but at that price... sadly not for me.
I was ready to sell my setup and go with this. Until it was revealed no 4K. That’s a big L. With 4K @ $1500 I would have stared selling blood to get the funds together.
*MY FAVORITY EMOJI FOR ENGAGEMENT.*.
Impresionante!
literally such perfect timing cuz i was literally talking to my friend about starting a podcast
and the most expensive way + only 1080p which is kind of weird for that price range
thanks it is a great item for me buyin it soon
1080p60? 😢
