I was already considering a Rebel 500 before I found your channel, but your content really helped me make the decision to pick one up. I only have my permit and have only taken the bike out a few times on backroads in my area, but I think it’s great for my first bike. I’m 5’8” and it fits me very well. I’m still working up my courage to hit the main streets. A few more times and I’ll be there.
Wow, that’s so cool! Thank you for sharing your experience and I am super glad I was able to help in a little way. You will get there 100%. When I first started, I had enough courage to go to the big parking lot near my house and back. Then I found a quiet 35 mph loop. Then graduated to a more complicated 15 mile loop. It just takes practice. Ride safe!
I don't regret getting my Rebel 500 one bit. Okay, there is the "Wow, did I really spend that much on mods for the bike after being so happy I got such an affordable one" regret, but it's so very minor and I love my bike. I researched the bike a lot, and was leaning towards the 300, I knew I wouldn't be happy with it for long, but a great price point for a started bike. The 500 fell into my lap, someone bought it new, had it for a month, but wanted a bigger bike, they were 6'6" and it was just a little small. So I got the bike, below MSRP, with a year warranty left on it, way too good a deal to pass up. Mod wise, added a Puig semi-fairing, Givi engine guards, Red Dragon forward controls, grip puppy comfort grips, USB charger, Quad-lock, OEM side and top tank pads, Mustang seat, Givi top case on the back luggage rack, Honda OEM saddle bags, and an Insta360 x2 camera plus mount attached to the mirror. So yeah, tons of mods you can do.
Wow!! Holy crap, that’s a ton of mods! I would probably have a little bit of that spent way too much on mod fear as well, but every mod I have done so far has enhanced my riding experience so much, that I haven’t regretted anything yet. How do you like the forward controls?? I’ve been thinking about them for a little while.
@@evergreenmoto I really like them. They worked with the Givi engine guards I installed, and they move your feet forward about 6 inches or so, for me I find it more comfortable. I'm on the not so fun side of the half century mark, and the sport bike feel with you feet tucked under you and knees bent can get a bit uncomfortable after some time, with the controls moved forward it feels like a more natural seating position. If you're going for the highway pegs this won't replace that, you're not that far forward, but I think they're great. Price with shipping might make you blink, the Red Dragon controls come from Vietnam and the shipping is on the high side, but now that I have them, not a single regret. There are other forward control kits that work, but I've noted that those have install issues reported, tweaking needed to install. Red Dragon, no install issues at all.
@@bradroddenham6370 that’s awesome, thank you for sharing your experience! Yeah, after riding for a few hours, my knees for sure get sore, so I think forward controls would help with that.
Can't wait to get this bike as my first one! Will either take the safety class this year and buy the bike in the winter OR just wait for everything till next year. Saving for a house also, so probably next year. So excited though.
there are two kinds of relationship... ones that teach you what you want in a relationship and ones that teach you what you don't want in a relationship... as weird and stupid as it may sound, I see vehicles as being no different.
That’s a really interesting point, I haven’t thought about it like that, but I think you are on to something. You learn pretty quickly what kind of bike you enjoy after riding for a short bit. Cheers!
Honda's saddle bags are very impressive. Water proof. Sharp. I got dumped on with rain. Completely dry inside. 16 tooth front sprocket is a good mod. Will drop the rpms from the 3500 rpm (60 mph) to 3100. I like the fact that I can stand up on footpegs when comes to RxR & big bumps. Gonna get heated grips.
That’s awesome, I didn’t know how well they held up. I’ll have to take a look at them! Oh yeah, that’s a really good idea. I like the foot pegs as well for bumps. Harder to do with forward controls.
Enjoy my 22' Rebel 500 ABS SE. Got mine 10/27/22 and I think it is the perfect bike for me. Likewise I am not the tallest person so I really enjoy being able to flatfoot the bike at a complete stop. Be safe and enjoy the ride 👍
insurance is very high for new riders, that is why best to go with small displacement like a 500 and below, after a few years ( 2 or 3) you will see the dramatic difference, then you can get a Turbo Busa
Maaaaan I just got a rebel 500 2023 for a great price..this is my 1st bike and maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan I looove it.. my GF wanted one and couldn’t find one in San Diego yet.. and when I tell you she was jealous.. but oh well, if it was the other way around I’d be stoked. Ok mansplaining. That’s for my shrink to sort out.. anyway my next bike is an Indian scout bobber. But this bike is the 3 porage with the 3 bears… just right.
That’s awesome 😂 The Rebel is awesome, glad you are enjoying it! Hopefully one day you can upgrade to the Indian and your GF can take the Rebel, ride safe 👍
👍 Yeah she is not fast above 60mph. But the low end gearing is amazing! For city driving, i feel that it can get out of the way of cars fast. I be a fast rider but this is a very controllable ride at most speeds.
Yep, exactly! I feel like the 500 does what you need it to do. I can get up around traffic at 60-70 mph no problem on the highway, but it tops out not too much past that. The bike it really quick and a ton of fun to ride.
Thank you for a great video. I have experience riding bikes but offroad, so haven't got my motorbike licence yet. I am constantly looking at different bikes because I can't wait to be in the position to finally take the plunge. My mind is currently set on the Rebel 500 and this video has veen super helpful! It’s a great bike as well and I could see myself having a ton of fun on it. Let me know when you do decide to finally take the plunge!
I like my rebel too. It's a quick nice bobber style bike that's a lot of fun. That's not all the riding I do though , I like to lounge in a comfy sofa with wheels as well that's why I have a Kawasaki Vulcan 900 custom. I also like having two bikes in case one needs to be fixed I can still ride and it gives me options in what I want to ride that day
Exactly! Two bikes is an awesome way to go if you can swing it. Nice to have bikes for different occasions also. I would like something that is mor touring style for super long rides.
Good question! I think it’s something that you learn as you ride. I feel like I can usually feel when it’s time to shift. Having the louder exhaust really helps at higher speeds, sometimes I would rev the bike way out getting on the highway with the stock exhaust. A tach would be really nice, but you can learn when to shift after riding for a bit.
Hey E.M., I spotted a yellow light flashing on the right side of your handle-bars, below/in front of the brake reservoir. What does that light "indicate" for you as the operator? Doug🏍️😎🤓👍
Buying my first motorcycle next week. I'm debating between the 300 and the 500. I'm 5'3 but stocky. Any advice? Edit - got the 500 and it's perfect not to much power and very forgiving.
Great question, I would say there are a lot of factors that go into this decision. Does the difference in cost play a role? What kind of riding do you plan to do mostly (around town or highway/commuting)? Do you have any motorcycle experience (dirt bikes or taking MSF courses)? I got the 500 as my first street bike and felt like it was a perfect fit. I was worried about out growing the 300 too quickly (which I hear happens a lot of the time), and with throttle respect, I was able to grow into the 500 fairly quickly. I had prior experience on a dirt bike as well. Both bikes are almost exactly the same when it comes to everything but the motor, so the fit will be the same. If you want to get something that you will grow into and price isn’t an issue, I would suggest the 500. If you aren’t sure if riding is going to be for you or you are really concerned/intimidated with motorcycles in general, than maybe the 300 is a good fit. Either way, you can always get something used and then upgrade later if need be. I hope this helps, and good luck with getting your first bike! Congratulations, let me know what you end up going with. One thing I can say for sure, is that you will have the time of your life on your new bike!
I was thinking this too, but figured to just go with the 500 when I'm ready because the 300 feels pretty restricted when it comes to road trips due to the lower power and speed. I KNOW the 500 will keep me satisfied for years.
also I have a cardano bluetooth, how can I sync it so I can record and talk like you are doing...I have an insta360 x3 maybe someone in the chat can tell me
I’ve heard that you can use the cardo headsets to record, but I don’t know how. I currently have a Sena. I need to figure out how to get my Sena audio as well, but for right now, I have a separate mic that I plug into a GoPro. @@PATTT_ I’ve heard that it doesn’t fit well with the SE headlight cowl, I think some places online say it won’t. But there is clearance, so it might? I haven’t tested it though.

Yeah, I have thought about the 1100 for sure. It’s a really cool bike, I hope to do a test ride on it sometime this year.
