One issue is the Chicoms will be defending. Also Tarawa didn't have fuel, weapon, and other combustibles on board. A SINKEX is only for the crew to learn weapon systems and know what to expect when the ship is being fought.
Fuel, weapons, and combustibles typically make a ship easier to sink, not harder, due to secondary fires and explosions... Also, yes the Chicoms will be defending to the best of their abilities... If it comes to that, we will see how their defenses stack up... To paraphrase Sting: Hopefully the Chinese love their children too...
If a Tarawa type ship can be sunken, so can a Nimitz carrier with more hits. Actually, it’s not necessary to sink a ship. If I recall, the 4 Japanese carriers sunk in Midway and the Lexington in Coral Sea received hits that set off fires and explosions, and then they were scuttled or torpedoed by friendly ships as part of withdrawing from battle area.

And they sunk it with a b2 stealth bomber from 15 miles away with a 2000lb bomb
Listening to that computer voice that cant pronounce Tarawa is like fingernails on chalkboard
