Mellow them out on one side or maybe even put a little kicker thingy on the right hand side of the first one. That way it gets easier to double while still being mellow enough on the left side to roll with speed
@@lorin5294 yeah good thinking. When I was building it I was looking for big flat rocks for exactly that reason. I wanted to have a rock lip on one side. But all I found was small round ones.
Yeah what Lorin said. If you have a nice flat rock, they make decent lips that can also be snuck past. Pump tracks have steep rollers but they are on flat where yours have so much more speed. You could also fill in the left edge of the lips from the bottom to be less steep. I think moto whoops are fine in any trail at high speeds they just happen in lots of trails. But some might complain about flow.
I think you should mellow it a little bit but then add more dirt to the downside making them more built up in the middle so when your going faster the roll will be more gradual still being about to go fast through them or gap them or manual

Happy birthday legend!!! It's easy to get carried away building features (especially with a youtube audience) and forget about the rest of the trail. But the last month of work fixing up the trail inbetween has been so much fun. It really improves the trail a hell of a lot. No boring bits. The roller gap is pretty gnarly for me at the moment. It's harder than it looks on camera because it's actually pretty tight to the corner and you are still leaned over a little. Then there is a tree at the end of the corner that blocks your view of the roller until last second. And then the landing has a bunch of trees really close just waiting for you to make a mistake haha. I'll get it one day, but think I need to work on my pop a little bit first. Cheers

My tiny little channel gives me so much work, but when I watch your videos, I think: "Wow, this guy is crazy. Look at the work this cost him. What a fantastic job!" Ahhh, and it's so funny to watch your dog always posing for filming! Have a great week dude.

For some reason UA-cam marked this comment as spam. I just found it. And stoked you found my channel and watched the entire thing!! That is amazing. I wish there was more as well but each episode just takes so long for me to create. But you don't have to wait long, I am nearly finished editing the next episode. Thanks legend!
As an aspiring biking UA-camr I was just doing research on how to be successful and I see so many of those things you do/did well. Excellent production from start to finish! For your rollers I think it would be fun to put some lip on the far right side to get the extra height/distance as the speed seems pretty set. Always tricky when things are fresh and not rolling as fast as they will worn in
Thanks mate! I just subscribed to your channel. Looks like you have a pretty fun backyard as well! Cool that you have been doing some research into UA-cam, I do the same thing and I'm always trying to improve. Do you have instagram? If so send me a message there and we can chat and help each other out with advice. I have learnt a few things recently that should help your channel as well. And check out this video of some guys that actually know how to jump hit the rollers. They had them dialled. ua-cam.com/video/5coFmNukx2s/v-deo.html
So good Luke. So much time put into not only the building but the filming and edits. Can’t wait to see what future Luke does next. Also a nice touch leaving in the real elements like casing the jump riding off the track and the live commentary, it does add more relatability.
Thanks Andrew. Glad you like that I include stuff like casing the jump. I was a bit self-conscious at first sharing my riding because I was so used to watching redbull riders on UA-cam. But I have realised that people love to watch others progress and enjoy relatable content.
Thanks for the ideas! Have you watched episode 10? I had some decent riders ride the trail and the rollers worked perfect as a double. I think I'm going to leave them as is for now. Something I can work towards hitting.
Another great quality video. One word of advice on drainage though, don’t use pipes, they block quickly with leaves and sticks. Better to either plan the corner a bit better to avoid the berm catching water or break it into 2 corners with a drain in between. Make the drains as wide as possible 600-1000mm to keep water flow as wide and as slow as possible across the trail to reduce erosion
@@cutlaps water control is the most part of building a trail system that doesn’t need much maintenance. Diversion banks ie Rollers strategically placed will keep water from channeling down the track. Your alignment is pretty set now but on future trails look for features first then look at how the water flows down the slope and work with that to link your features. You’re doing awesome 👏
@@gregditchburn9786 for sure. I also have the IMBAs guide to building sweet singletrack book. Lots of useful information on building sustainable trails in there. The downhill section after the stump drop will need a bit of work as well. It's a lot steeper in real life than it looks on video. Heat breaking and rain will cause it to rut out. I'm going to have to work out a fix there.
@@cutlaps I got injured playing soccer. The trail I'm building is made just by hand so it is taking a long time. I still love building things and then trying them out.
@@AlpineRR26 sounds painful. Yeah trails by hand have a great feeling about them. Most of my trail is the same but I use the mini digger to fill the wheel barrow to save time. I probably would only have half the trail without it.
Welcome Pete! Glad you are enjoying my videos. Followers have had a great boost over the last week which is really cool. Just gotta keep on having fun out there and the channel will grow. Who knows maybe one day I'll be able to do it full time. Thanks again.
Thanks mate. I wish they were more frequent as well. But it just takes such a long time to produce them. I would love to spend more time at the trail but need to focus on my regular job and paying the bills as well. Hopefully one day as the channel grows I can earn some money from it and become a full time UA-camr. I'm hoping to get the next episode out a bit quicker this time, but it may end up a little bit shorter. We shall see. Thanks for checking out the videos 🤘🤘🤘
As always a great video, beautifully edited and built mate, the trail looks fantastic. I would have my problems with the spiders when I'm in Australia, but the scenery is really beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to the next video. Take care and ride on🤙
Haha the spiders aren't usually an issue. Except when they make a web across my trail and I cop it to the face lol. Thanks again for checking out the latest episode. Ride loose!
Hey Luke! Amazing trail you got there what a nice backyard! I‘m building trails myself but would give a lot to have an excavator only for one day.. keep building and shredding! Cheers
Thats so cool you are building your own trail as well. It's so much fun. I started my trail without the excavator and fell in love with trail building. So eventually I thought it would be cool to buy a second hand digger to speed up my digging. It was such a good purchase. I figured that if I stopped using the digger I could just sell it again because they hold their value well. But I can't imagine selling it now. It's just perfect.
@@cutlaps yeah in your backyard it absolutely makes sense to have one! Trailbuilding is addicting.. sometimes i have to push myself to grab the bike instead of the shovel hehe!
Spider went for a ride. So awesome to see you build a track cut into a mountain side. Your water runoff you could have used some rocks for the water to flow down more away from your bike track. FYI
One time I took my bike in for a service and they found a few spiders and a wasp nest 🤣🤣. Oh the joys of living out in the bush. With the rocks idea, you mean try and divert the water before it gets to my trail?
Wtf, how is it possible that you have 2k subs? Based on the quality of episodes, the voice overs, filming, editing, having merch stores etc, seems like you are doing everything perfectly. I expected to see 100k subs. Anyways, great job, greetings from Finland from a fellow mtb youtuber.
Thanks mate! I'm trying my best to create some top quality content. Hopefully the UA-cam algorithm picks up on it soon. My channel is growing but I'm still not even able to monetise. I'm havnig a great time building the trail and creating the episodes so that keeps me happy. I checked out some of your videos. Really cool!

I love the fact that you dont buy your wood from lowes or home depot and you use the mill. also your teeshirt desgins are so rad
Cheers Riley. Stoked you found my channel and you're enjoying it. I really enjoy filming and editing as well as riding and building so I spend a lot of time putting the videos together. I also watch trail reviews, its a great channel and he's a way better rider than me thats for sure. I can't get enough of trail building channels, always looking for new ones to watch. It's great being able to mill my own wood. Saves me a lot of money, wood is crazy expensive at the moment. And stoked you like the t shirt designs.
Yeah Luke!! Another cracking video. Your commitment to the series is so good considering you're doing a majority on your own and it's a brand new UA-cam channel trying to grow! As always, loved Aggie hanging out while you built the rollers. ❤️ The speed out of the two new berms is brilliant. Would love to see the next left hand berm scoop up a bit higher on its exit to allow a gap to landing, I think you've got the speed required. Also FYI - I love the length of these videos and the way you piece then together. But I also found myself super eager for this one to drop, checking your channel and Insta a couple of times a week! Considering this was two separate parts of the track, you could probably have done 2 X 5 minute videos 2 weeks apart to keep everyone coming to the channel and help the algorithm. Keep doing what you do man, I'll be here watching and loving it! 😁
Thanks mate! Sadly there are trees in the way of the next berm making it hard to get enough scoop for a jump. But I had semi planned something like that on the first left hander that I just built. When the next corner is built I may go back and see if I can create a gap from berm to berm which cuts out the tight right hander. And I agree with you about the 2 x 5 minute videos. But the first part of the video (berms and rollers) wasn't even going to be a video. It was supposed to be a quick and easy build just to fix up the trail. But half way through I realised how cool the section would be and started filming. So there wasn't enough footage for a video on it's own. Lesson learned... film everything and decide what is interesting enough for a video later. Thanks again for watching along!
Thanks for watching so many of my videos. Here's one I made recently for another UA-cam channel that has a full trail tour. ua-cam.com/video/9P2CH4PNaqQ/v-deo.html
Thanks mate. For some reason UA-cam marked this comment as spam so I have only just seen it. Glad you found the channel. The rollers have a perfect amount of kick to them. I just need to practice my pop.
Haha I like that! I think if I were to make changes, I could fill in the middle bit a little. That way it doesn't dip down as much between them. It should smooth out the ride a bit more but still allow for max flight time off the first roller. But they are good fun at the moment, so maybe I won't make changes.
@@adammorris6348 yeah there's a bunch of dead branches above where I'm working which makes it a bit dangerous and then the noise of the wind can also make it hard to film.

I don't know too much about trees, it could be Jarrah but from what I read thats mostly Western Australia. We do have a few red bloodwood trees on the property. Could have been one of them.
It depends, this was a while ago and we had plenty of rain so the dirt had a great moisture content in it. I don't think I neede much extra water. But now we haven't had any proper rain in months and months so it is really dry. I need to bring in all my own water. I probably wont be doing much dirt work for a while.

Trail and shirts are sick. Keep up the great work Luke!
Thanks Seth! I've really enjoyed designing both the trail and the shirts.
Yes mate, that trail's looking so sick!
Thanks mate! So is yours.
Bloody love your vids Luke. The trails comin along mint. You’re killing it dude, keep it up🤘🏼
Thanks mate. Wish I had a bit more time to work on it. But I really can't complain.
Roller Ideas: 1. Move them apart 2. Bring them together and fill the gap with a table. 3.Combine them into one long roll.
Thanks for the ideas! Have you watched episode 10? I had some decent riders ride the trail and the rollers worked perfect as a double. I think I'm going to leave them as is for now. Something I can work towards hitting.
Yup. Agreed hands down. Sadly my riding community prefers straight pedalling section than curvy berm or roller 😓
Ahh thats a bummer. They are so fun!
Good advice Greg. I was wondering how often I would have to unclog the drain.
Loving those cable cam shots!!! Great work, loving the channel!
Dude the cable cam is awesome! I love it. Thanks for checking out the video.
love the videos and the new flow section...I'm getting some great ideas for trails I'm building in Kenya!
Oh dude that's so cool you are building trails in Kenya. Any photos or videos to share?
Trail looks like it rides amazing now
It does. I'm really trying to make sure there are no boring bits. Just one epic trail the entire way.
Loved the video! Recently I broke my foot and I get the boot off next week (I think.) Can't wait to continue building my own trail!
Oh dude that sucks. How did you break your foot? It will be a great feeling when you get your boot off! Very cool you are building your own trail.
Sick video Mate! The new section you built looks amazing! Great job dude!!
Cheers legend! So good to see you back for every episode. 🤘🤘
Leave the double so that it can also be a gap jump.
For sure! Whatever happens with it I definitely want it to still be a double. A good challenge for me to work towards.
New to the channel, but loving your work.
Good videos, well edited and fun to watch. Good job and hope you expand your followers.
Welcome Pete! Glad you are enjoying my videos. Followers have had a great boost over the last week which is really cool. Just gotta keep on having fun out there and the channel will grow. Who knows maybe one day I'll be able to do it full time. Thanks again.
Love your videos! The quality and content is great. Wish they were mire frequent! Keep up the great work!
Sick man 🤘🤘
Thanks Alex! Some fun sections of trail in the works.
Thanks for creating such great content! I am now hooked!!
That is awesome. I am editing the next video at the moment. Can't wait to share it with you.
@@cutlaps as it drains away . So it doesn’t rot away the dirt
The dirt on top looks good .
@@joey0077d ohhh I get ya. Yeah good idea. Thanks.
@@cutlaps your welcome. 👍🏼👍🏼
@@cutlaps well, like I said, you have great content with really high quality production, so it has to be just a matter of time before this channel blows up. Thanks for checking my channel, sorry that only some have English subs, they are a huge pain to create 😅
@ thank you dude! Yeah I bet it takes ages to create subtitles. No need to apologise.
Yet again he comes out with a another sick video
Yeiwwww thanks mate.
Love seeing Aussie content, great work, keep them coming.🏆 One of those nice shirts would look great sending the SA Trails😉
Yeiwww stoked you found the channel Jeff. Sorry to say but the next episode is almost finished so you just missed the cut off for the next tshirt contest. But same again in the next episode... Get in early with a comment and like and you will be in the running. Or you can grab one from my online shop. 👌
your doggo is so chill
Haha yeah she loves to lay in the fresh dirt or on the new wood work.
mate i've never seen such a quality trail building series! if you like good trail building content you should also check out the "trail reviews" youtube channel, but honestly yours is better.
A new subscriber, I watched your skinny video then it sent me to this. Great content! Everybody’s riding the trails and nobody’s building them
I'm always interested to hear how people found my channel. Were you searching for something specifically or did youtube just recommend the skinny?
@@cutlaps The sketchy skinny video was in my feed, and I love Skinnies, so I had to watch it! Like I say great content
Cool. It's not really that skinny but the height of it makes it skinny enough
not watching in order but im digging how the trails coming along
Very cool to see you going through the videos and commenting!
those spiders..... you get an added measure of stoke with everything that can kill you there. :)
Haha I'm fine with all the creepy crawlies we have here. I would be more nervous about building somewhere like Canada. Bears!!!
Nice
Thanks Alex!
Yeah Luke!! Another cracking video.
Your commitment to the series is so good considering you're doing a majority on your own and it's a brand new UA-cam channel trying to grow!
As always, loved Aggie hanging out while you built the rollers. ❤️
The speed out of the two new berms is brilliant.
Thanks again for watching along!
you should give a tour of the whole trail
Thanks for watching so many of my videos. Here's one I made recently for another UA-cam channel that has a full trail tour. ua-cam.com/video/9P2CH4PNaqQ/v-deo.html
Looking epic lad.. Leave rollers as is!! Way more fun that way. JPMTB
Thanks legend. They are a lot of fun to ride. And a good challenge for me to work on gapping them.
New Sub mate, Great series. Really like the sump drain in the berm. Leave the rollers as is.
Thanks mate. For some reason UA-cam marked this comment as spam so I have only just seen it. Glad you found the channel. The rollers have a perfect amount of kick to them. I just need to practice my pop.

Very cool yo
Awesome video
Thanks mate!
Keep the rollers high so you can fly!
Haha I like that!
I think if I were to make changes, I could fill in the middle bit a little. That way it doesn't dip down as much between them. It should smooth out the ride a bit more but still allow for max flight time off the first roller. But they are good fun at the moment, so maybe I won't make changes.
@@cutlaps one of those scenarios where time will tell I guess. The berms at the end looked mint to ride too.
@@adammorris6348 yeah the berms are lots of fun. Hoping to get out there today to start work on the next one. But it's super windy at the moment.
@@cutlaps is it the windfall that worries you?
@@adammorris6348 yeah there's a bunch of dead branches above where I'm working which makes it a bit dangerous and then the noise of the wind can also make it hard to film.

It's on my dad's property. Far south coast of New South Wales in Australia.
Ohhh and good tip on the chain. I'll have to check it out. Would be handy to not have to sharpen as often when milling.

@4:52 awesome effects!
@8:20 I like seeing your thought process as you build
@10:00 “Got this spider on as a stowaway, we’ll give him a bit of a send eh” 🤣
also what’s the tape on your bike @9:47 for? (
Hahah that's a poor man's bike wrap. It protects my frame from my bike rack. Usually it wouldn't be an issue but on the constant dirt roads and bumping around I found that it was wearing down my frame. I'm surprised this hadn't been asked earlier. Looks like my bike is held together with tape 😂
@@cutlaps it does look like that 🤣 … my bikes often have similar home grown adjustments.

What are some tools you need to build
I started with just a shovel and rake. Then I bought a fire rake / rake hoe. And a watering can.

Aweomse!!!! Thank you
Do you wet your dirt and then pack it?
Or do you even wet the dirt at all, our dirt in america is way different! Great job on the trail too!
It depends, this was a while ago and we had plenty of rain so the dirt had a great moisture content in it. I don't think I neede much extra water. But now we haven't had any proper rain in months and months so it is really dry. I need to bring in all my own water. I probably wont be doing much dirt work for a while.
