You can actually build this without having to mock it up somewhere else. Physics to the rescue! Your bike is a projectile once it leaves the launch ramp, which means the horizontal velocity is constant and equal to whatever speed you leave the ramp at. You can translate your hoz velocity from your 30 degree ramp. Your vertical velocity is determined by gravity. Your bike is going to slow down vertically once you leave the ramp and then half way across, it will start to fall back down as gravity accelerates it down. The variable that ties the vertical and horizontal together is time. You can calculate how fast you need to hit the ramp to make it across. If the gap was 6m across, your brain never would have let you send it. If you worked it out on paper before, then you would know that you could make it. Great video by the way!

Cool video about how difficult it is to build a proper jump. Congrats for building AND sending this one, I would NEVER do it, without paracticing another 10 years...🙂
Thanks mate. Good work spotting the 2nd code in the video. There was another one hidden that had the directions of how to use it. But someone has already found them both and won the shirt. Thanks for playing
Such great content. My son and I just started riding and built our first kicker. We love watching your videos as a family. Keep up the awesome work. We will keep watching here in Montana.
What a Jump😳 That gap looks epic! You‘ve progressed a LOT over the last year! And the fact that you overshot it twice with ease just shows how much more you got in you! When upgrading, why not make the gap bigger😉
Yeah I think the gap needs to be bigger. I want it to be trail speed without brakes. And maybe a smoother take off. It's a bit abrupt for the speed at the moment lol. I have a few other thngs to do before I get back to fixing this.
You are the best youtuber that I have watched, so you inspired me my dad and my brother to build a mountain biking trail of our own. It has 4 jumps and a big berm, we don”t have a mini excavator to get dirt but a whole lot of inspiration. Thanks to you we have the fun of a lifetime. I also have an idea for another build you could do, I was thinking that you could make a jump and then a big u shaped hole so you could jump into the hole and jump out eith a landing, thats all i have to say so bye!
Thats so cool you are building a trail with your family! I started without a mini excavator as well. Lots of hard work but still worth it. Sometimes I think I'm cheating with the digger haha. Thats a cool idea for a jump. It reminds me of something I hit on my snowboard.
I LOVE this track. i hope that you can get me 'round there sometime. You should like make bookings on when people can come there and go around some of the track
Thankyou very much you have shown me a lot about mountain biking like how to build wooden features by doing this you have got my dad in to helping me and I love that. Oooh yeahhh definitely getting better on the bike since that first video. I need to go back and work on that first section of trail. I think I can make it a lot better now.
Enjoyed watching the new video with my son all the way over in the UK - that’s a savage jump! we’ve almost finished building our own ramp from some pallets using your instructions! Looking forward to the next video already

Yes!! Cutlaps is back! great video as always, one of your best so far (although the OG drop is still my fav). good job for sending it looks massive on video and im sure even bigger in person. 👍🙂
Yeiwww. I do like the original Sump Drop as well. I mark that as a turning point in my youtube videos. I learnt a lot with that edit. Thanks for watching.
Yes Luke. Been frothin to see this. It would take me some mental gymnastics to hit it, but I’d definitely give it a go. Making a longer landing and not so harsh transition back up the hill will be sweet. Love this channel, been here from below 1 k subs. It’s a credit to you Luke. JBJ rack looks sick too👊🏼
Hey dude! Yeah I think I will make the landing higher up which means it can be longer as well. Should make it flow a little better. You are one of the OG subscribers! Yeah I am really happy with my bike rack. Good to have another aussy provider for sure.
Hi mate … to fix the landing you should dig past the wood matching the angle and keep it down hill for a bit, you should then build the berm and put a steep hill at the end.. I will be absolutely stoked if you do this man.
Hey Brandon! Yeah I think thats pretty much what I will be doing. Probably make the landing a bit higher off the ground as well. Which should make it longer.
You have a lot of confidence doing something like that, I wish I could be like you some day. Also, you might not remember but I said I would copy your “free kicker jump out of a pallet” and I did, it’s so much fun!
Awesome that you built the pallet kicker. Glad you are having fun. Keep practicing and you will slowly build up confidence as well. I'f you look at my earlier videos there is no way I would have jumped this even a year ago.
Love the videos. Gives me great ideas for the flat terrain I have here at home in the states. Really enjoy watching someone with my skill level ride what you're building, gives me confidence. Thanks for the great videos.
Glad to be a confidence boost for you. I agree it's cool to watch Red bull riders do insane things but I also love seeing riders of my level progress and push their limits.
I love your videos and I am ten years old and it is my dream to have a MTB trail and my friend and I love to build little dirt jumps and would be the happiest kid ever! :D
Love your Vids cutlaps it inspires me to go build trails and ride them in my free time with my friends and i even built that kicker out of palates keep up the good vids👍
Great video as always. I absolutely love building ramps and stuff in my garden. I think you should turn the landing into a dirt landing for the accessibility to change the shape easily.
That would be handy to be able to change the shape but it was going to need a lot of dirt and wood to create a landing like that. It was the original plan.
hey bro, I have been watching some of your videos recently and found out you are an absolute legend. for example In one of your previous videos you made a jump out of pallets, I got really inspired by that video and i am making currently as well. but to think, for that video you put so much time and effort into designing preparing and building this pallet jump and put in onto a 15 page slide just for us to complete the jump in like a day or two. you are an absolute legend and from your videos I will have heaps of knowledge going forward in my life as I am only 11. keep up the Amazing content.😝😝
Dam dude what an epic comment! Yeah I try to give back and inspire the community as much as possible. I have a new video soon that is similar to the pallet kicker video. It should help people build the perfect jump. Haha the ditch does fill with water when we get heavy rain 🤣🤣
I love these videos so much. They are super satisfying to watch. Its super fun watching your building techniques. I love the quality over quantity. Keep it up!
I have spent all night binging all your episodes and mate I LOVE It! Your trail is so awesome, I think my fave feature so far is the dunny (corkscrew) that would be sick to hit.
Your stuuf just keeps getting better! i LOVE watching your videos. You have been a big inspiration to me. The skill it takes to make rideable jumps by yourself is insane. Keep it up mate! Im a fellow aussie and its great to see someone in the same country as me doing all these sweeet things. Im only 14 but i love mtb and your videos make me aspire to be better on my bike.
This channel is awesome. I subbed way back when you had 4k, and I’ve loved seeing you grow over the years. This is by far my favourite video that you have released, I never expected to see something like this! And being totally honest, I would *never* jump this. Maybe one day, but keep up the amazing work, and keep growing!
Many years ago I watched a Vid of some epic mountain trail ride with sick wood ramps and gap jumps ... then in the making of the vid - they'd built the wood trail sections as a complete bridge-raised section - then ridden them and seen where they land - then cut the unused section out and filmed the vid.
Always pumped when u post a new vid! Well done for over coming this new feature and keep working on it the trail it looks sick. that creek looks dawning as, i couldn't imagine doing that. Nice job!! Your dad is a lifesaver lol 👏👏 Big up cutlaps!!!!
Cheers Eric! It was a relief to land on on 2 wheels on the other side of the creek haha. A little bit of work and I thiknk I should be able to get it to flow better.
Wow, what a video. It's such a nice feeling to come home and see one of your vids, keep up the good work bro, you're a role model for so many kids out there and deserve more subs!
So crazy. The thought of being a role model never crossed my mind when starting a UA-cam channel. Really cool to inspire others to get out and ride. Thanks for watching.
Your riding skills have gotten so much stronger throughout this series. I give you credit for hitting that jump. Visually it must have been a real scary thing.
Thanks mate, slowly getting more confident on the bike. There is no way I would have hit this back at the start of the channel haha. THanks for watching.
OUTSTANDING!!! Just found your channel today! Excellent content. You look great jumping. It sounds like you haven't done many jumps, but you look like a pro! Also, nice looking trail you've built! Great work!😊
Secret code: overshoot I love the cutlabs every time I see a video it builds up my confidence to send new and bigger jumps that I have never done before
Yeah dude!!! Nice work. You found the code but there was a second one with a website that you needed to put the code into. Sorry to say that someone already won the shirt.
After the wooden landing it goes uphill too soon, but I am sure you are working on that before the next ride. It resembles the Redbull hardline canyon gap, just a lot safer!
Yeah you are right. I'm going to work on the landing and take off. Need to get this just right before the trail continues. I want to maintain all that speed.
You killed that man! I think the takeoff looks proper but it’s currently a bit of a step down. As a general rule you can get away with flat landings on step ups but step downs need a landing as steep as the take off. A step over can be somewhere between. So maybe look at building a longer landing a little higher up the hill… the gap could be the same size but a foot or so taller? Obviously makes it harder to clear theoretically but gives you a much bigger landing. Just take a look at your first jump and imagine a landing about a foot higher up but that extends all the way to the dirt at about the same angle as the existing landing and you would’ve laced it. Even your second one with less speed and not the best pop off the jump you were a foot above the lip of the landing. Not sure if you were looking for input at all… and if you weren’t I apologize😂 but I’m just rooting so hard for it to turn out good
Yeah the original plan wasn't to be a step down but I got nervous about the trail speed so I built it like that. I was going to lower it down but the trail speed is way faster than I expected so I think I may actually make the take off even longer and mellower so that its not as abrupt. I'll even lift the landing up so that it can be longer. I want this to be more like a high speed skimmer across the creek. I just need heaps of wood ahah
3 things. 1. Right tools for the job. That drill? Good for building doll houses n IKEA furniture, not heavy duty work with hard timber. 2. You want to do pre drilled holes and use lag bolts. Makes your project far more sturdy and far easier to dismantle to move or make changes. Even if you just pre drill for anchor screws, it makes that connection 70% stronger. 3. Good job. Keep up the good work with the videos.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. Every screw has a pre drilled hole. I just don't show it everytime because that would be a long boring video lol. Lag bolts would be incredible overkill for decking. Bugle screw is plenty suitable. Lag bolt would help with dismanteling the structure but that's not somthing that usually happens. And the IKEA doll house drill? I'm assuming you are talking about the Makita brushless impact driver? An impact driver is usually smaller than a drill but outputs higher torque levels and is made specifically for driving fastners like screws. Mine is an 18v but makita do make a 40v version which has an increase of 30Nm for the max fastening torque. Hard to know if that extra 30Nm would have solved my problem but one things for sure is that it would be overkill for a dollhouse.
Hi, i love your videos and your trails look amazing. You inspired me to build tracks myself in the woods. I wanted to start biking because i want to try cool trails like yours.
Hey mate chippy here, with stuck screws use your drill to get them out on low speed, impact can struggle sometimes. Just make sure you hold on with both hands because sometimes it can kick 🤙

Hahah yeah things got a little bit more gnarly on the trail for sure.
What a goat for replying .you have such a great channel and inspire me next time build a loop or a tunnel
Ur amazing
A loop would be insane!!! I don't think I am ready for that haha. A tunnel would be cool. I would have to work out an interesting way to do it.
@@cutlaps yea stay good
Cool video about how difficult it is to build a proper jump. Congrats for building AND sending this one, I would NEVER do it, without paracticing another 10 years...🙂
Thanks mate! Keep practicing and you will be able to send jumps this big.
OVERSHOOT I love watching you channel and how good you are at building
Thanks mate. Good work spotting the 2nd code in the video. There was another one hidden that had the directions of how to use it. But someone has already found them both and won the shirt. Thanks for playing
Such great content. My son and I just started riding and built our first kicker. We love watching your videos as a family. Keep up the awesome work. We will keep watching here in Montana.
Thats so cool! Hope you and your family are having fun riding the kicker! Thank you for watching.
What a Jump😳
That gap looks epic!
Just discovered your videos last night. I think I've watched nearly all of them since! Awesome work!
I love people with a vision.
Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
Great build!
Thanks mate. Glad you enjoyed it.
I LOVE this track. i hope that you can get me 'round there sometime. You should like make bookings on when people can come there and go around some of the track
That would be cool! I need to get the trail finished.
Thankyou very much you have shown me a lot about mountain biking like how to build wooden features by doing this you have got my dad in to helping me and I love that. Also he is starting to ride with me and I love how your videos show people how to build trails or even their own so I can’t Thankyou enough for all the videos and I love them so much to Thankyou.
Thats really cool to get your dad out their riding and building with you. That's how I got started on this trail. I was watching trail building videos and my dad saw and said we could do that as well.
@@cutlaps that is cool
I have never gone on a real trail but I have always wanted to it's so cool watching you make those jumps. Whenever I get a notification I always look to see if you have posted a new video. Keep up the good work
Oh you should get out and give it a go sometime. Its so fun riding single tracks. Thanks for watching my videos.
I’ve been here since your first video and man your riding has improved a lot! Crushing it man, keep it up. And of course, your builds are top notch as always
Thats really cool! Hope you guys have a great time riding the new kicker.
Mate, I have loved watching your videos and the way you make your trails is crazy. The determination you show and the dedication towards your work in incredible. You have inspired me so much to make my own trails I can't wait to see more of your videos.
Awesome. Thanks James.
Just started getting into mountain biking, I came across your videos and have been sucked in ever since, I love how you figure out everything and build it yourself. Love the shirts and would like to win one! :)
Hope you have been enjoying mountain biking as much as me. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.
Yes Luke!!
That's massive mate, I definitely wouldn't be hitting it without 6 months of practice at least!
Super impressed with your nerve hitting it 💪
As always, I'm amazed by your woodwork and general handy man abilities. Your old man also killed it this episode, cracking makeshift crane!
Yeah dude Dad came to the rescue a few times in this video ahah. I need to fix the jump up a bit to get it to flow better.
Gotta love the ingenuity of a good dad. Overshoot was that hidden code word!
This is so cool you have inspired heaps of people to go outside and ride their bikes including me !
Yeiwww! Always great to get outside and ride.
Wow, I am inspired by your videos, your improving so much as well. The quality of your videos are great as well, never fails to impress me. Me and my friends look up to you and watch your videos for inspiration, keep doing what your doing. Great work.
What an awesome comment! Thank you for watching and I'm stoked to be an inspiration
Which should make it longer.
i love bros posativity and sarcasm he seenms like such a genuine guy
Haha thanks dude! Glad you enjoy it. I try to be as real as possible out there.
That woodwork is amazing! So cool to see it in motion.
Cheers mate!
I love your videos and I am ten years old and it is my dream to have a MTB trail and my friend and I love to build little dirt jumps and would be the happiest kid ever! :D
Thats awesome mate! Building dirt jumps is a great place to start! So much fun digging and riding with friends.
It was the original plan.
hey bro, I have been watching some of your videos recently and found out you are an absolute legend. for example In one of your previous videos you made a jump out of pallets, I got really inspired by that video and i am making currently as well. but to think, for that video you put so much time and effort into designing preparing and building this pallet jump and put in onto a 15 page slide just for us to complete the jump in like a day or two. you are an absolute legend and from your videos I will have heaps of knowledge going forward in my life as I am only 11. keep up the Amazing content.😝😝
was the puzzle The gap wasn't really a creek it was just a ditch?🤣🤣
Dam dude what an epic comment! Yeah I try to give back and inspire the community as much as possible. I have a new video soon that is similar to the pallet kicker video. It should help people build the perfect jump.
Haha the ditch does fill with water when we get heavy rain 🤣🤣
I love these videos so much. They are super satisfying to watch. Its super fun watching your building techniques. I love the quality over quantity. Keep it up!
Man! I love this video. Thanks for sharing your trail builds. Its fun to watch. And your Pop is very supportive.
Glad you enjoy watching them. Yeah I think dad has to be the number one fan of the channel.
I am from finland and I like your videos so much! I even started to build my own course. I will watch all your videos that do.
Keep going🤙
Awesome! That's cool you are building your own trail! Have fun 🤟
Thanks!😁
I have spent all night binging all your episodes and mate I LOVE It! Your trail is so awesome, I think my fave feature so far is the dunny (corkscrew) that would be sick to hit.
Your stuuf just keeps getting better! i LOVE watching your videos. You have been a big inspiration to me. The skill it takes to make rideable jumps by yourself is insane. Keep it up mate!
Im a fellow aussie and its great to see someone in the same country as me doing all these sweeet things. Im only 14 but i love mtb and your videos make me aspire to be better on my bike.
Thats really cool to read. Great you are inspired to keep progressing on your bike. Get out and have fun! Thanks for watching Levi
I’m going to make a trail in my local trail networks so I’m learning a lot thank you!
Yo me too! I always left a comment saying that this channel was going to blow up sooner or later, and now it has
@@nathankovach7414yup! And he exploded way quick too!!!
Thanks mate. Yeah I think this is one of my favourite videos so far as well. Great to see the channel growing.
@@cutlapsdefinetly mate! Keep growing and before you know it you will be at 100k!
Same here! Love ur videos man keep it going 👍
Many years ago I watched a Vid of some epic mountain trail ride with sick wood ramps and gap jumps ... then in the making of the vid - they'd built the wood trail sections as a complete bridge-raised section - then ridden them and seen where they land - then cut the unused section out and filmed the vid.
Honestly, each time you post a video, it inspires me to go riding and build some trails. Good stuff man!
Aesome! Hope you have been having fun building trails
Great job shutting your brain up and getting it done! Such a mental game.
I can really struggle with shutting my brain up sometimes. The mental game is such a huge part of riding and progressing.
Always pumped when u post a new vid! Well done for over coming this new feature and keep working on it the trail it looks sick. that creek looks dawning as, i couldn't imagine doing that. Nice job!!
Your dad is a lifesaver lol 👏👏
Big up cutlaps!!!!
Cheers Eric! It was a relief to land on on 2 wheels on the other side of the creek haha. A little bit of work and I thiknk I should be able to get it to flow better.
this is such a great video, makes me want to go out and build some jumps
Perfect! Get out there and have some fun
You've inspired me to build a mtb track near my house. Genuinely best account on youtube. keep it up dude.
Thats awesome! Have fun building and riding your own trail dude
Sick, I love how creative your features are
Cheers mate. Yeah it's fun trying to come up with interesting ideas that are fun to ride.
Your vids gave me the motivation and skills to build my own trail
Love your vids Cutlaps! Watching you gave me inspo to build jumps and trails with my mates and they’re turning out great. Thanks to you! 💙
That is awesome. If you post videos on UA-cam, TikTok or Instagram be sure to tag me so I can see your trail.
I just found your channel, you are so funny, relatable and by far my favorite MTB channel!!! keep up the videos!!!!!!!!
Stoked you found my channel and you're enjoying the vidoes. Thanks for watching.
That’s so sick, what an absolute send
Cheers dude. I really wanted to make sure I wasn't coming up short haha.
Great work!😊
I love when cutlaps posts it gets me all excited.
Ohhhh yeahhhhh
Secret code: overshoot
I love the cutlabs every time I see a video it builds up my confidence to send new and bigger jumps that I have never done before
Yeah dude!!! Nice work. You found the code but there was a second one with a website that you needed to put the code into. Sorry to say that someone already won the shirt.
@@cutlaps all good thanks for letting me know👍
After the wooden landing it goes uphill too soon, but I am sure you are working on that before the next ride.
I just need heaps of wood ahah
sick jump dude! i have been watching your videos for a while now and you have progreesed a lot good work man!
Yeah I feel like I'm getting better on the bike for sure. I don't do nearly as much riding as I should.
3 things.
Nailed it. After planning it, cutting it, setting it and screwing it.
Haha thanks Julian
Always inspiring to progress my jumping and trail building. Love the content. Cheers.
Awesome! Stoked to be inspiring others to get out and ride
Hi, i love your videos and your trails look amazing. You inspired me to build tracks myself in the woods. I wanted to start biking because i want to try cool trails like yours.
Thats awesome mate! Hope you have a great time building and riding your trail
You are out here inspiring me to make my own backyard trails keep up the awesome vids
Awesome! Building your own trail is the best.
Overshoot is the answer and btw the jump is absolutely amazing 🤩
Hey mate chippy here, with stuck screws use your drill to get them out on low speed, impact can struggle sometimes.
Just make sure you hold on with both hands because sometimes it can kick 🤙
Ohhhh nice. Thank you for the tip. I'll give that a try for sure.
his jumps always come out beautiful i try building mine and they come out sketch very beautiful
Hi I love seeing you build a bike track.Maby you could bunny hop while riding it!🤘
Great job on the build. I could never hit that, but it looks sick! Love the high quality videos, keep it up.
Thanks mate! Never say never. Stoked you enjoy the amount of effort I put into each video.
i just, and i mean just started watching ur videos and they are awesome! me and my dad are planning on building some kickers and jumps and your videos are really helpful in how to get started!
Awesome mate. My next video is a guide on how to build a proper kicker. Could be helpful
that sounds great! i’ll lookforward to that
