I have been building a mountain bike trail in my backyard for over 3 years and it’s pretty awesome, but there is one thing missing… A step up jump! So in this video I will show you how I built a step up jump mountain bike jump on my backyard mountain bike trail. Step up jumps are great for beginners who are looking to start jumping. They are the safest to hit because you lose all your speed when you get to the landing. Which means if you crash you aren’t going as fast.

@@raphaelsaunders5449 Thanks mate!!
I'm excited to watch this video with all of you when it premieres. @BCpov and @BackyardTrailBuilds both have new trail building videos coming out at the same time! We are going to release them right after each other with BCpovs going first, so make sure you head over to their channels and hit the bell icon to be notified when the first video starts. Yeiwww pumped for this.
Thuis is aimazing
I’m so pumped to get out there!! Just bought my first bike in almost 20 years!!! Thanks for the motivation!!
Hell yeahhh! That's awesome. Have a rad time dude 🤟
These build get better and better and I love it. It reminds me of me and my friends journey when we started back into mountain biking. We started building small dirt knobs, then went on to full wooden cannons. Sick as always Luke.
So good to get out there building with mates hey! Stoked it brought back some memories for you. Thanks for watching.
love the vids. Im curious will you drop shorts in ur shop? I'd defenetly buy them 😃
Shorts would be cool. I don't have any plans at the moment but maybe in the future as the channel and clothing brand grows. Thanks for the interest.
So sick
Cheers mate!
I love what you do and I envy you because i would not be ably to put in enough effort good job and keep going😄👍
Thank you! It is a lot of work and sometimes I get really exhausted just thinking about it. But then when I go for a ride with friends on the trail it all becomes worth it! THanks for watching.
@@cutlaps I really appreciate it that you reply and it makes me feel like some people care🙂
@@Tom1456w i care a lot about my viewers. Without you my channel wouldn't exist. I really enjoy chatting to my fans.
@@cutlaps I come from collie in wa what about you?
@@Tom1456w oh nice. I haven't been to WA. I'm over on the far south coast of NSW near the Victorian border.
What advice would you give for a new UA-camr?
Have fun! UA-cam is a lot of hard work and if you are doing it to make a quick buck then you will be sadly disappointed. But if you are in it because you love to make videos and have fun doing it then you will have a great time.
Always try to improve with each video you make. There are lots of great how to UA-cam channels out there with helpful info. Like Film Booth.
And one of the most important things with a successful UA-cam video is the thumbnail and title. Spend lots of time researching and coming up with ideas when making thumbnails.
What happen if it rains? Does the Wood Broke and does the Trail path become Smooth and starts to be smooth (im not good at english )
Good question! The wood is Eucalyptus, it's a hardwood that is rot resistant so it holds up very well to rain. It may become slippery when wet if it remains wet for a long time alowing for slime to grow. But it hasn't happened yet.
Friendly neighbourhood wrigglestick?
A bit of a combination of danger noodles, drop bears and other things hellbent on drinking my blood 🤣
You need to take a jar of salt with you into the bush! Then you won't have to touch those slimy vampire worms.
Hahah yeah thats not a bad idea!
Couldn't you even build it bigger on the left side?
Possibly but the side angle is already pretty big, it doesn't look it. But if it was steeper it may make it harder to straight air.
Ticks are no joke, be safe out there. Here in the States we have Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever that the ticks can give you. Pretty nasty stuff and in extreme cases can cause death. I don't know if I could deal with leeches on me, I have been around them but never had one attach. Good to see the progress on the trail, this is most definitely a labor of love.
I'm fine with the leeches. They are a bit gross and slimy and leave an itchy for a few days but they are o easy to get off. Ticks on the other hand can be harder to get rid of. I've been. Getting them my whole life so sort of used to them but definitely don't want to develop any diseases. So now that they are really bad in the section I'm working in I'm using tick repellent.
@peterluitze Oh dude that sucks!
Every time a see a new cutlaps post I get excited, it being my favorite mtb channel for the amazing builds which inspire me for my local trails. Keep up the good work and keep growing you channel!

you know cutlaps t kinda looks like the step up at bentinville
I think I have seen videos of it on UA-cam! Would love to ride there.
Yes Luke!!
Best dirt jump you've built by far!
Love the work with the tree and the background info on your digger (you look great operating it haha)
Your editing and filming is at such a high level now as well!
Have you done away with the monetized videos with all the songs in there?
(Adds something extra having music people recognise for sure!)
Probably makes sense with the paid sponsor for the video 👌
The Tics and leeches are wild our there 😳
Keep it up man!
Sam
Hey Sam. Stoked you liked it. I was pretty unsure as I began work on this jump. It's pretty tight after the drop and j wasn't sure if there would be enough space. But now it's one of the things I like about it. You really scoop down and then pop up out of the creek. So fun to ride.
My video is still monetized but I pay to use the songs.
@@cutlaps Turned out great mate, the whole trail is looking more and more fun 😊
That's cool with the music, I haven't looked into how that side of things works. Certainly adds to the video, good stuff!

Another good one Luke, nice work mate😃. I found 1 and 2 of the puzzle but couldn’t fine the third

Sonny thats really cool of you to say! Thank you. I have 2 new videos in the works at the moment. Can't wait to share them.
@@cutlaps oh great thanks keep it up!
ive solved the puzzle that last clue went by so quickly😀
The last clue is really hard to find! Solid effort!
What spray do you use on ticks before removing them? And if it helps, the tick twister removal tool seems to work wonders for my family when removing ticks. We pretty much always get the head out with that tool and it is way more reliable than tweezers for us.
It's a tick spray that freezes them. I can't remeber what its called, I got it at the camping store. They were sold out of the tick tweezers when I was there. But I got myself some a few days ago. Because the ticks are really bad at the moment.
This is just to cool
You Aussies are tough guys. RESPECT :)
I'm not sure I would call myself tough but I appreciate the comment!
Man I love your videos and I would gladly watch them ever day of the week .I also really find it interesting how you build your jumps and other parts along your trail.
Cheers mate! I wish I could put out a new video every week. The trail is really coming together now hey! Gotta be one of the best backyard trails in the world.
Hey Luke I found all the puzzles the first one is 3:52 the second one is 8:20 and finally number three is 12:49
So free tee shirts
Solid work finding that last clue! It was hidden well. Just a heads up, that when you combine the 3 clues you get the 4th and final clue. But someone has already solved the puzzle and won the shirt. Thank you for playing along. I think it was an extra bit of fun and I will do something similar in the next video as well.
I love this series it is so good to see people building their own trail in Australia. This new jump looks sick.
Watching from Western Australia 🤘
I need to visit WA, I didn't realise you guys had so many epic trails over there.
Found all the pieces of the puzzle! That was fun! Sadly I wasn't the first.. maybe next time.
Oh nice!!! Solid effort. That third one was tough hey! I enjoyed making the puzzle so I will do it again for the next video.
Me too
A massive double
Its gonna be a double and it will be as big as I can build it for the speed. Not sure how big that is yet but I am already a bit nervous haha
You were hidden at 3.45 during video.
Yup, that was part one of the puzzle. Good spotting. A few other clues hidden throughout the video as well.
love this series , seeing you progress is super fun and motivates me to ride my bike, looking forward to the rest of the series

Awesome video mate. That jump looks great! Your videos really inspired me to build some jumps near my house. Thanks!
Very cool! How's the jumps you have been working on?
@@cutlaps There coming along well but I find it hard to get the angle of the takeoff right! Do you have any tips to nail the takeoff angle?
@@joshuadouek6385 Hmmm it depends whats going on with them? I usually work out my rough angles by eye. You want to make sure that the radius isn't too tight.
that’s sick! it does seem you lose a lot of speed after hitting it but i’m sure with the berm and if you had some little spots to pump you should be fine. keep it up 👍
Yeah you do lose a lot of speed but that's the point of a step up jump. If you crash you don't have a lot of speed so it won't hurt as much. But there is actually a lot more speed than it seems in the video. Because the trail ends right after the berm we would all hot out brakes after landing. But when the trail continues there will be no need and it should be a bit quicker. I may need to widen the berm a bit though.
@@cutlaps yeah seems fun though, good on you mate
@@dunny00 I think I need to widen the berm a little, it gets too tight at the end. I was riding it yesterday and you pick up a lot of speed again dropping back into the gully. I'm just hoping it's enough to clear the creek gap
@@cutlaps yeah, not fun on a tight berm. I think it would be easier to fix once the next feature is built so you can play around with it and get the speed right
@@dunny00 Yeah I may need to build a roller after the berm to pump for more speed. Will see next week.

after the berm U could Bild a jump back across the leach pit or take a sharp left turn into sum rollers and a rock garden. it could go rollers, rock garden, skinny 1easy 2mid 3hard. ps love your videos realy looking forward to next post. I subbed on very account.
