After a busy day at work it's great to sit and listen to Henry's soothing commentary as he bashes out another superb mini.
I FEEL this right now. Cheers.
You aren't wrong. There is definitely something relaxing about his voice. Lol! Bob Ross had that going on, too.
Was just commenting on his relaxed voice to the gf.
We need Dark Angels Veterans please. When the Risen box comes out having those done up as power armored squad leaders etc would be tops rather than just having them as what they are.
great paint job, that blue has a great effect. i would NOT suggest painting up a deathwing dreadnought, since this is of course NOT an army project.
I have to paint my space marines army, how cool they are!😊
as said during live, lovely work!
Would love to see a conversion of a Captain in Terminator Armour in the style of the original Space Hulk load out of Power fist with aux. Grenade Launcher, Storm Bolter and Power Sword in scabbard.
Model looks ace mate, lovely work as ever, but as for the paint, I've had my doubts about the atom line since hearing about them, the main advantages of laquer paints is that they can tolerate being thinned much more than standard acrylics, theyre a lot more durable, they become touch dry almost instantly so fine detail spraying/freehand camo/mottling are much easier, and when used for the hairspray tehnique they produce much smaller more scale-accurate chips and honestly I'm dubious about an acrylic matching the thinning capability and toughness of a laquer but it might be worth seeing just how far you can thin them without separation because with the AK real colour laquers I can basicaly completely solve tip dry by adding more thinner. Theyre a bit crap for brush painting but the performance through an airbrush is way better than any standard acrylic out there
Thanks for the inspiration! I'm doing Oldhammery Crimson Fists from modern plastics and I've been wondering what to do with Fafnir's axes!
Henry not only do we have the same citadel drill, but we also use the same toothbrush to clean parts! Did we just become best friends? Yep!
do more dark angels, a recipe for ravenwing and greening would be cool
It's a shame that this is DEFINITELY NOT going to be an army project as you said. I guess I WONT suggest you make a Terminator captain to lead your guys... would be topical too as they're finally releasing the new multi-part terminator captain model! DONT listen to my suggestion! ;)
Noted. And ignored.
That art came from the Genestealer expansion of 1st ed Space Hulk. The plastic librarians contained therein had some lovely chunky axes.
Cool as always 👍
So you’ve done ‘Deathwing’. Now time for ‘Genestealer’???
Make it an army!
Looks fantastic. I think you absolutely should not convert a Terminator Interrogator Chaplain
really nice! casual thondia brown enjoyer
It's a cracker
Beautiful... would love to see what you can do for a Dark Angels Chaplain in terminator armor, or some Ravenwing units... even converting up a proper-sized Sammael on Corvex Jetbike!
Is it now canon that he's carrying sandwiches in his lunchbox ?
bitten by the Deathwing bug!
Two more units and you can have a combat patrol
It's a shame that this is definitely not developing into an army project. But please make dreadnought. :)
I definitely won't do that.
I'm glad the patreon has given you more time for this, but don't get burned out! You don't want a beloved hobby to become a tiresome chore.
Thanks Ben, no danger.
Great results, might just tweak a second librarian in this manner for my DA 👌
I have to say, i am fucking WONDERING if the watcher in dark hauls his tactical rock around... this dude seems like he wouldnt be hauling it around himself...
Would love to see a conversion of a Captain in Terminator Armour in the style of the original Space Hulk load out of Power fist with aux. Grenade Launcher, Storm Bolter and Power Sword in scabbard.
PLEASE 🙏 Do NOT kitbash a new upscaled “DEATHWIMG COMMAND SQUAD” ‼️
You *definitely shouldn't* add some Inner-Circle Companions or Asmodai to this *definitely not an emerging army project* when they launch.
Would love to see some Outriders to go with the slow chunky boys... y'know, only if you're after some ideas...!
Also, I must say, that part where you're drilling out the barrels and you use plastic cement to dissolve the left over plastic..... why haven't I thought of that!!!
Lovely kitbash and painting! Built myself a chaplain out of the same model. Its a very fun kit to work with, very build friendly.
Only thing is the tactical rock feels a bit misplaced on your bases, otherwise its aces!
since when has a Dark Angels Terminator (Deathwing) a blue armour? Your painting style is adorable!
Been loving this little series. ❤
Drilling Barrels - Stop using the thicker drill bit after making the initial hole. Take your Hobby Knife, put the tip inside the hole and then rotate the knife around the hole to widen it. This allows you to 'adjust' an off centre hole by only widening towards the directions it needs to be and allows you to make a perfect hole everytime. A touch of thin plastic glue will then clean up any drill flash left inside the hole.
Everyone suggesting other dark angels for definitely not an army project… but have you considered painting up some equally retro genestealers and cultists also in the space hulk colours for some adversaries?
Some people disklike the new terminator chaplin, so why not make a better one? Perhaps... and interrogator chaplin?
Great video m8. Kitbashing my minis one of my favorite aspects of the hobby.
The finished model looks like it leapt out of a poster at a mid-2000s local gaming store, I love it.
I would absolutely hate to see more videos in this not-series, so please don't keep them coming.
If you were to do an army project, would be a shame if you did the deathwing knights
shame really
I'm not saying you should make an army, but this is already half of the marine combat patrol and a classic style death wing captain would fit in nicely....
A bit flat looking unfortunately. Always a joy to watch you paint and hear about your process.
If you like to drill the barrels I recommend giving the wowstick a try, its a small automatic drill that has made drilling barrels insanely simple for me at least
I really like how you guys paint and I have tried to replicate it. Thanks!
I DON'T think you should do a Deathwing Redemptor Dreadnought. I think that would be a TERRIBLE idea. You should really consider NOT adding that to the army that isn't an army project 👀
I would like to do a dred...
Hey Henry! Just dropped a line to the Insta as well but thought I’d ask here too. Would you have any recommendations for Contrast Blues to use for a Librarian in line with the Metallic Green scheme you shared for DA in 2021?
I reckon talassar would work great.
I like how the Watcher in the Dark seems to be leaving a little trail of arrows behind it as it walks.
Also, yeah, looks better with the helmet. Gonna steal that for mine, when I get to him Real Soon Now.
What an awesome job. Great work sir!
That axe conversion is wicked! Love how you magic'd the 3 parts together in one straight line too. Just glue, no pins? Also, don't bother doing any new genestealers and hybrids to go up against them 😉
Thanks! Yeah just plastic glue.
Excellent work but I thought all Terminator suits in the Dark Angels chapter were exclusive to the Death Wing so even if your Librarian has a power suit in traditional blue the round plate with the chapter icon on the right pauldron would be the cool white or bone color like the rest of the unit.
I spent far too long looking this up online, and there was no real consensus. It was sort of "every member of the Deathwing wears bone white armour". But a librarian isn't automatically a member of the Deathwing. So I went with blue.
Why did you glue the barrel after drilling it? I've never drilled a barrel before but I've got the storm bolters in Deathwing Assault just sitting there...
The glue will just melt any of the left over dust from drilling and clean up the hole a bit. Not needed but just makes it a bit tidier.
^ this
Dude I need to see you paint the Lion
You know, I really can't understand why you have so few subscribers. Given your quality you ought to easily be 100k+ and WAY more.
Lovely conversion and paint, opening or reopening a bunch of possibilities (always good to see some Index Astartes art from the early 2000s too, loved poring over those in WD haha)! I really appreciate the nods to earlier terminator models and mentioning that old Grey Knight, ahh!
Yeah, definitely don't follow up on my Deathwing apothecary suggestion for the project expansion you're definitely not doing, even more white to do, haha! 😉
I love your conversations and personal hobby projects and I hope you keep making videos on this definitely not dark angels army
Was that tamiya ultra thin you were brushing on the base at the end? What's the purpose of that? Or am I mistaken and it's something else?
Glue to clean up where I sanded. Then I paint over once dry.
I’m definitely painting all of my Deathwing in your white(ivory) scheme this year. I’d love to see you expand this little project with DW Knights, a converted chaplain and some of the new scouts.
SIR!? What was that with you running Tamiya thin over the painted rim?
Clean up the sanding after joining base and topper.
You've done the DW terminators, I'd love to see the DW knights in the same style! Love your work regardless!
AK has some similar paints to what you were describing. What I’ve ended up doing is using them as a high-pigment primer stage, but I don’t like painting with them too much because they obscure details. Other paints go on and stick to them just fine, so it helps if I want a reddish or blue (etc.) shadow color.
Great conversion! I know we have similar tastes - I'm currently planning a Hulk Squad using the new Terminators, but making them original Blood Angels!
Always wicked looking. Like seeing this model without the glow effects, looks so much better, good move and the axe rocks, ai want one.
Getting a second of these guys soon and was wondering what I'd be doing with him. This is hugely helpful. Appreciate it.
We need a chaplain
Love this! Haven't done Space Marines for over a year but tempted now...
Wow I would hate to see you a Chaplin in terminator armour for your NOT army project project 😉😉😏😏
Truly beautiful mini and paint job :-)
Do they have Apothecaries for the Deathwing?
I'm very slowly getting back into WH40k, and am starting a Dark Angels force, but am wondering how to go about making an apothecary for my Deathwing to have as a special character.
The Deathwing kit that was just superceded by the new knights had apothecary upgrade bits.
@@cultofpaint Oh, thanks so much for letting me know 🙂
I was panicking about having to buy more kits just to cobble together an apothecary for my Deathwing force.
Happy days ahead once I get the new Knights set soon :-D
Love videos like this one. Showing the construction process is great. Keep them coming!
At 18:02 - why do you use Tamiya glue on the base rim? I'll usually touch mine up with black flat or black gloss primer but very curious,......
I sand it after gluing on the topper. The glue smooths it all out before I then paint it.
@cultofpaint I wondered this too, but I love the process. Gonna try it out.
I have a few kitbashed da waiting to be painted as well as the new knights. Thanks for this series as i am now leaning towards the white scheme instead and now you given me another mini to add
gorgeous. good to know you can fit a terminator helmet under that hood as well, ta.
Hi Henry, sorry if you’ve had this question before, what brand/product do you thin your oil washes with?
If it's my own hobby then I use Windsor & newton sansodor. Its a high quality odourless thinner. In the videos I tend to use normal white spirit as it's a very small amount.
@@cultofpaint thanks mate! Helps a lot!
did you put glue around the base rim at the end?
Just to clean up the join between base and topper. Then sanded and painted
As you're not doing any more of these videos and this isn't turning into an army, you won't be doing a chaplain next so...
100% not
I won't look forward to that so.
What's an acrylic modulation set?
Usually Sets that are designed to work together for creating colour modulation on tanks.
Lovely conversion and paintjob. I think the watcher is a bit in the way, but maybe he’ll vanish into thin air when the Lib takes another step.
I definetely dont want to see you build and paint a Dark Angels Army, with all the cool units in
im sure he shuffles just out the way in time
Running the glue around the base rim is something I haven't seen before. Is that to tidy up imperfections? I often find a base will have a messy injection point that marrs the lip.
it was to just melt any shavings etc between the plsticard and base top
sweet a kitbashing video
Airbrush needle ?!? I shuddered slightly at that Henry 😂
Harder & Steenbeck 0.4mm a multi tool!
Biker boys next I guess!
on a space hulk!?
@@cultofpaint hey this is 40k... Take your fancy 'realism' to bolt action 😉
Such a classic look
This is so good!
amazing stuff!
Gosh, Henry. It would be a shame to see some of those company hero models, stern guard, or inner circle companions painted up to add to this not army. I really hope you don’t consider doing that with some mark Vii hooded heads or something.
Terrible its not an army, would be a SHAME to see you do some Ravenwing kitbashing/painting, I would HAAAAATE that
me too
I am the king of this comment section i demand likes as tribute !
"Because I certainly won't consider making videos on those, in the future.... probably" 🤔
Henry, this was a great video as always. I want to tell you that I very much enjoy seeing your conversions in video and hope to see more of them going forward. Also, when you return to tbr Black Templar project, I would really like to see a chaplain and some sort of model with a plasma weapon.
Sounds like a good plan
