Michael Brown is a great fencer, I had the pleasure of meeting him at RO this year. It’s always great meeting someone else who practices broadsword, there aren’t many of us left.
It's really cool to see the way that you use stances to keep your opponent from taking advantage of their reach. I would have expected him to snipe for the hand more, but you do what you've talked about so often in your shorts: transition between stances in such a way that not only keeps your hands close but also leaves multiple lines of attack that your opponent has to consider. Really, really cool, man. Thanks for putting your practice on the internet.
Power advantage, yes, reach less so. Although the longsword might be longer, a sword held in one hand can profile for extra reach over a sword held in two. In practice, they end up with about the same reach. I'd say the real versus of attributes here was the longsword's power versus the sabre's very protective hilt.
Looks like a blast! Couldn't help but notice those hits at the end were a bit more liberal than the rest, lol. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, whack whack! 😅
Beautiful attack at 2:15. Am I correct in calling it a krump into an unterhau? Also, very clean krump at 4:40, even if he managed to riposte successfully.

I appreciate it, but I’m actually standing in the background! That’s Colt, who dresses similar to me!
As a novice, it helps greatly to see that even experienced fencers occasionally falls for those cheeky hand snipes 😅
Amen, helps my confidence.
Great showcasing of some beautifully executed textbook cuts and great form from both fencers.
1:40 was an extremely satisfying bit of fencing
honestly if i saw a show with swordfighting that looked like this it'd become my favorite so fast

lovely to see more sparring footage keep it up ❤
I love the mixed arms fencing, would love to see more match-ups!
Would love a voiceover explainning whatsoever techniques or what you are attempting and why you scored or the other scored
The saberist did kind of amazingly well considering the reach and power advantage of the longsword.

Fantastic play!
Thanks for showing more of this

This was pretty cool to see, the Sabre kinda made me think of scimitars....................
hell yee
Where does such activity take place? I saw this channel is from the US.
Damn this looks so cool and fun but I can't fit another hobby in my life 😅
How does one get into this? I've been interested in getting started but I don't know what to look for. Are there clubs?
Yes just search HEMA clubs. Really depends on where you live though.
There are clubs all over the world, Google “HEMA Club in my area” or “Historical Fencing Club in my area”
He has videos about that!
Are you the inspo for Shoichi Maki?
The battle field must have had an awful lot of finges strewn about….
That’s why they had gauntlets and hand guards.
Who is who?
Poster has the coat of arms on his face shield
I've always felt that a saber will by default be outmatched by a longsword, so I was happy to see that it's not always the case.
