Well Seth has over 300k subscribers on youtube, who gives a huge exposure to niché sports and always gives them a fair treatment (he even went a trouble of finding the one TDK guy in the world who knows how to fight and could kick his ass), which is likely to turn into more pratitioners and helps the pay the gym rent. So yeah, makes sense to play with. Not to be overtly cynical, it’s just logical and it’s cool what Seth does (I didn’t even know such thing as foil existed for fun). Besides, it looks they had fun.

Loved this! Even with the dubbed audio, it's still a classic Sensei Seth video. I laughed, I cried, and I learned. Okay, so I didn't actually cry, but still . . . I appreciate Seth's willingness to try any form of martial arts or weapons adjacent combat. We recently saw that Sumo ended up being instrumental in getting the silver medal in the Ultimate Self Defense Challenge for Seth, so who's to say that fencing won't be extremely helpful in future competitions?

I think it will be. I myself am a fencer and a martial artist. Fencing helped to develop reflexes, distancing, timing, and most helpful, speed. It definitely could help him in the future.
I wouldn't recommend it as a general production technique, but Seth really styled it out in his usual high-grade manner and ended up making quite the feature of it.

Fencing was the first sport I ever did when I was little before I got into mma, and it served as such a great foundation for footwork and balance and explosiveness
I tried fencing for the first time at 40 last week. It's pretty fun. I can't roll anymore and can't bend because of fusions so I figure I can ruin my knees now.

I’ve been fencing for nearly 10 years, I also started Olympic weightlifting about 3 years ago. Both require a lot of technique and explosiveness too. And that makes sports fun, glad fencing has given you good basis for other martial arts.

Vince seems like a total class act. This didn’t lose anything by being dubbed, the fact that you are rolling with the punches and doing your best makes it completely watchable and entertaining. Must have been really sucky to do, but really glad you didn’t abandon this video!

Fencing really helped my martial arts sparring. A guy who was better than me noticed it immediately.
Also helped me out a street situation. Had a guy throw a punch at me during a "discussion". I saw his shoulder cock, ducked and swayed under the punch and retreated backwards about 5 yards. Given we had an audience and this guy had just swung at fresh air and was probably feeling rather foolish he just walked off.
5 yards is 15 feet, did you long jump it XD?
@@mag51284 It might have been only 3 or 4 yards, I didn't have a tape measure with me lol. What I can definitely say is that I was well out of range for any follow up shot and I was in a stance ready for anything. It told my wannabe opponent that I clearly had some idea what I was doing and I might not be the easy fight he wanted.
I've had a similar experience. The only regretful tendency I have from fencing is an inclination or sometimes even a compulsion to attack in straight lines instead of making angles.
As a foil fencer I love seeing you try fencing again and I very much feel your pain when you thought you got that disengage at 4:35 and looked at the box just to get hit 😆Awesome job salvaging the vid, glad he was willing to help you out
fun fact: i got forced out of foil into epee because one coach said i “didn’t have a future with foil”

Fencing is one of those things that you don’t immediately think of when talking about "martial arts", but it technically still is one. I guess so is archery. Huh.
Seth I know the video was scuffed but as a long time viewer and even longer fencer I would like to say thank you for showcasing our wonderful sport. I was very exiting to see you try your best in such a niche community.
I love that you try new things outside of your comfort zone. I've enjoyed doing so myself. And as a fellow practitioner of the chubby surprise, I'd love to have a sumo dojo somewhere around here. Sadly, it's a very small town and I'm not a good commuter student, so my options are very limited (aikido and a rather mediocre karate school).

Your idea to use a dub to recover the lost audio was honestly genius. Happens man, happens. Totally felt your pain there. But bad situations require creative solutions & you did it.
Fencing is one of those sports that got massive coverage during the Olympic Summer Games, and every orders or judgement are in French, love Épée competition over foil or saber.
As someone who fences sabre, and a bit of foil, epee is a real mans weapons.
The script was absolutely awesome, no complaints here! All that's left now is for you to try sabre as well. It's so cool to see you trying fencing once again! Edit: I also like how how score with your length at least once. That's how I get most of my points on foil too, as an epeeist.

In all seriousness, even considering the audio issue, this is the most thoughtful, sincere, and well put together fencing introduction video I've seen to date. Coming from an assistant coach at a fencing club in Tulsa, you'd make a pretty good fencer and I think you should stick with it. Great job, man, two thumbs up

I'm a national level foil coach in the UK. Really good video and great improvisation to overcome the technical problems.
If you have only done one day of epee and that one foil session, then your fencing was really good.

You know Sensei Seth still scored 2 points against the instructor and shows just how dangerous sword fighting can be... even with years of experience the instructor could have lost his life if the swords were real

I took a fencing class in college and it was fun! Was interesting incorporating my boxing background and notable reach advantage (being 6'6" vs a class of short-to-average height) to control the spacing and tempo against fellow newbies. I would likely get destroyed by an actual fencer, though 😂

I fenced in college. It is a great complimentary sport. My Footwork, balance, hand/eye coordination and reaction time vastly improved and I got better at every other sport.
The whole dubbing over the missing audio made for quite a different video, I love the resourcefulness.
No one knows what the video may have been had you not lost the audio, but I can say that the end result was one of your best videos yet. Great job turning an obstacle into an opportunity.

The reaction Seth has to the audio problem is a classic self defense technique, perfectly executed, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade"-style. LOVE IT!! ❤
Next time you fence, try to keep that front toe facing forward instead of turning the foot. It helps with the linear movement of fencing, and also reduces the amount of rolled ankles on strip.
Also, you walked off the back of the strip in "Match 3." That line across the strip before the end is the end of strip line, the line before that is the warning line, then there's the starting lines and sometimes a center line. When both feet are behind the end of strip line, your opponent gets a point. The reason that area is still grounded is because Epees go for foot touches and miss.

Fencing is an interesting experience. I got to try it back in 2000 and I really liked it. I tried Kendo as well for about 2 months.

It might be hard to find someone for but id recommend finding someone to learn montante from(zweilhander and spadone could also work), it gives a sword expirence like no other weapon.
