One observation after watching both this video and your cover of Ghost of Perdition....Lopez truly is amazing of course, but dude, Axe also just kills it too! Different players but I don't see Lopez as being superior as a lot of Opeth nuts do. I was extremely bummed to see Axe leave the band...what a tremendous loss. Anyway, Congrats on this man! Just stunning playing.
Absolutely agree with you 100%. I think I've discovered Opeth around the time Watershed got out and to this day it's still one of the most inspiring albums I've ever listened to. Axe is fantastic and I hate people making useless comparison between the two. Opeth have always had fantastic drummers and they should both be recognized. Man I agree so much, most of the people think that Lopez was better. Is a great drummer of course but I think that axe added something that was missing before. You can really feel his drumming in the prog records like pale communion or sorceress. And when he left...was tough, terrible loss
I have nothing against "new" Opeth, it's just not for me, so I'm not sure how Axe goes on the newer stuff, but I think Axe's drumming on Watershed is just sublime, he really has a way of playing to the song while still being incredibly technical and groovy. He's just a sick drummer.

One pointing towards the hi hat and first crash the other pointed towards the ride bell picking up the China and main crash as well :) I don't recall the exact model of the mic but it was in the audix dp7 kit!
