"Heir Apparent" from Opeth's "Watershed" album (2008).
Feels very good to FINALLY cover this song. I transcribed the first minute back in 2019 and gave up instantly. I could not make out the basslines at all. However, an absolute legend uploaded the actual bass track to UA-cam so I can confirm that this tab is very very close in terms of accuracy. I think it's also the only Opeth track ever where Martin used a pick to play a fast part. It does sound like he switched a lot from pick to fingers and back again. Instead of putting the pick in your mouth again at 6:06, you can also just.. I don't know, throw it on the ground. And yes, the weird part at 7:12 is not the same as the isolated track, I know. Nobody can slap and then magically use a pick 0,1 seconds later. I changed that part slightly to make it a little bit easier to play. It's basically freestyle which is impossible to transcribe. Everything is fine as long as you end up reaching the 12th fret in time.
Some important information that nobody is going to read.

Nice song. I want another song from Opeth, To Bid You Farewell
One of the best songs off of watershed! Also those intro chords hit like a train
Sure does!
I was obsessed with this one for months. Finally it is here. Thank you very much!
You're very welcome!
Yes! More Opeth for the people!
There it is, Watershed complete with the heavy hitter done 🤘
Yes!
The most underrated Opeth song!
Not really? Probably their most played live from Watershed.
@@allenvrabac4827 well obviously it’s the most played from watershed but overall in their discography, it’s overlooked by many
Not even remotely close.
Nepenthe from Heritage is their most underrated song
Muchas gracias Leo, gracias a tus tabs puedo disfrutar y tocar canciones de Opeth, unas de mis bandas favoritas, un gran saludo desde Chile
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS THANK YOU SO MUCH MAN!!!!! Been waiting for this one for a long time!
No problem! It took a long time, I know..
Another great hit from the Martin Mendez band. 🤘
Dude it looks really hard but im gonna definitly try it.
You got this!
Great cover man i love that you always have something different to play not just the same songs as everyone else, thank you for that!
Much appreciated :)
Opeth!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Wow, just wow, i always thought that Martin plays this song with the 5 string, i always saw him use one for playing it live, anyway
Great cover Leo, probably one of the most request Opeth song lol
Not sure why he would use a 5 string for this one tbh. He used a for some of the songs on Watershed but there's not a single note in the isolated bass track that goes below an E
@@LeoBassCovers2 oh, he uses in The Lotus Eater actually, wrong song
How dare you
@@LeoBassCovers2 lol
Fantastic playing as always
Thanks as always man!
Great job! Long time no see, I've been quite busy with school and life. Hope you're doing well Leo!
Thanks man! Hope you're doing well yourself :)
Can you do by the pain I see in others?
I second this
Leo the man!!!!
Wow, nice!😮
Thank you!
Dope!
i won't lie i saw this in my feed and thought it was a destiny 2 video at first
At least you're being honest with me
Nice one
Thanks!
Awesome! One of their best imo. Seems like a very tricky bass part, it’ll take me a while to build the stamina for some of the faster parts (I’d rather not switch to a pick if at all possible) as for 4:18…I have no idea how that’ll work. Might just gallop along at that speed since I can’t do notes one after the other at that speed on fingers
My suggestion if you arent comfortable with a pick, or want a technique that might help in a live setting where grabbing a pick mid song might be inconvenient is to double thumb it.
People typically think of double thumb as a slap funk technique, but it has a lot of applicability in heavy genres so you can effectively tremolo pick with your thumb. Saves me when I do tremolo live and dont have time to pick up a pick.
Picks, thumbs, theyre all tools for the job. Having as many available as possible and being proficient in their use will make you the most versatile.
Or try the Bryan Beller technique, using your index/middle finger as a pick. Works like a charm as well.
Well well well. I won the lottery without winning it
Yup! I've been wanting to do this one for a long long time
W song as always
Once again asking to have Charlatan done with all three bass tracks :)
