    Don't hate me for saying it again, but the two of you have a special gift for editing. Professional work!! That crackling wood and those flickering flames on the campfire scene had me getting all cozy. A few more seconds of that and it would've been lights out for me. Love your videos. Again I thank you for taking me with you

    Some other canoe routes are:
    1/ Mississippi River System in Ontario that goes from Bon Echo to the Ottawa River.
    2/ York River
    3/ Madawaska River from Algonquin to the Ottawa River

    Damn blowdowns, about 20 years ago when I was 15, I did a summer canoe trip with about 10 people in Temagami. Our trip was supposed to be 7 days, but on day 3 we had a similar issue. Our portgage and or the map was wrong, and we couldn't progress. So we ended up going back to day 1, then doing a 7 day trip in 3 days essentially lol. Hey guys I came across your Chanel a few weeks ago great camping videos . I was wondering why your dogs are not wearing life jackets?

    • @CanoeTheNorth
      @CanoeTheNorth  2 роки тому +3

      Hi Ray. Thanks for the comment. That's a good question. Ill start by saying that we always used to have them wear life jackets. We stopped (most of the time) for a couple of reasons. The first is that after several days in a row of wearing them our dogs would develop hot spots where the moisture was held against their skin all day. The other reason is that we have had them get tangled in the bush with branches getting stuck between them and the lifejacket. If we were to dump on a river like the obabika we worry about them getting accidentally hung up on a branch. These are two of the biggest reasons we don't have them wear them anymore. Obviously there are dangers as well with not wearing them but when we weigh the pros and cons for us this is what we have decided makes the most sense for their safety. Hope you understand.

      @@CanoeTheNorth It seems so! I intend to paddle the lower Obabika from the George Gordon Rd bridge and then down the lower Sturgeon to the Chiniguchi confluence with some friends late April and your video is what prompted my call the Finlayson Park office for some info. THey confirmed last fall things were clear all the way to McNish! The lower Sturgeon appears to be a small Nisutlin river style paddle. The upper Sturgeon from the Ishpatina crossing is more of a whitewater trip. Summer fun is coming soon :-)

  • @tomtommy2227
    @tomtommy2227 4 місяці тому

    Completed the Obabika river this past weekend and it went very well. Now, like this coming weekend is the time to go back and do it again with the high water!! We had 8-9 spots where we were able to wedge the canoes around logs close to shore through small trees without exiting the canoes, or just power over the logs, with a couple spots that required stepping out onto a log, there was one spot a couple km's before the George Gordon bridge where we had to drag about 20m to get around a small log jam, but the terrain was easy to work with. There was still one massive log jam that hadn't been cleared but there were portage signs in place to get around it, it was an easy portage and very short. We put in on Obabika, paddled up it then took out at the George Gordon bridge as the stream into Wawiagama lk was very much a no go. It was a 12k'ish hike back to the vehicles. I can see that this river will likely quickly become a mess again as more trees fall into it.
