    Hi, Thanks for your kind comments. Although I don't give hands - on training , I do supply training centres with other resource material via my 'perfect panelwork' website.
    From memory,the filler used for this job, would either have been HB body unilite or Upol galv x. I use either, depending on what my supplier has on the shelf.

    I usually use an air powered hacksaw for cutting in such situations. You should cut the doner piece first, then you can see how much space there is between the outer and inner sections.

    Your'e right, any single - skin panel should be repaired using normal panel beating methods, where access allows, although it's very rare to find a car with single skin rear arches.

    i know that filler is used for dents ,rust repairs welding etc. Does it also act as a high build primer between to help build up the thickness between the paint and metal?

    • @paneljigman
      @paneljigman  8 років тому

      Some repairers like to apply the last skim of filler onto the surrounding paint. so as to reduce the amount of high build primer needed. This works fine if the paint surface has been scuffed correctly and a filler that is designed for this purpose is used. Eddie

      +Ervin Juarez For this job we used a pin puller and a panel puller. The panel puller uses a slide hammer that has a weld on tip, and is an accessory to a resistance spot welder set. Try GYS or Car o liner or e bay for this kind of kit.Eddie

    if your going to filler it anyway do you just get the metal close a possible

    • @paneljigman
      @paneljigman  8 років тому +1

      Ideally the filler should be about 3mmm thick maximum after shaping, so the panel should be pulled out to allow for this. In the real world it is not always possible to get the panel so close to this, but it is good to at least try. You will get better with practice. Eddie

    great video, can somebody tell me the model nr of that pin gun which is being used, or an alternative naming for the tool? are these tools expensive to get?

    • @AdammP
      @AdammP 9 років тому

      R B another alternative name is a stud welder, you can get an entry level kit including the pull hammer for around 100-200 british pounds (around 200-400usd)
      unless you're using it regularly its probably cheaper to get it done professionally though. i wouldn't buy a kit for the odd job.
      just to add a proper high quality kit you are looking at over double that easily.

    • @Ronb008
      @Ronb008 9 років тому

      alright , for the amount of times I would use it wouldn't be worth it then, thanks for the reply!

    • @AdammP
      @AdammP 9 років тому +1

      R B in all fairness you could get a similar result by electrifying a nail or tac, grounding the bodywork out on the car and zapping it on, after all you're going to grind out the stud marks after its been pulled straight so the quality of the weld isn't so significant. it is a possibility to do this, providing you test it first on some scrap metal of similar thickness/grade so you don't fry a hole through the bodywork. its best to get the ground lead as near to the welding spot as feasibly possible though as the stud welders ground ring is a circle around the spot thats being welded, i would only recommend doing this if you're good with a welder or it may cause more damage, and if you're good with a welder you will know what im talking about. Theres plenty of non-weld options too but will require more post-straightening work to be done i.e sanding/filling.
      hope this helps - my good deed for the day! haha.

    Stay gold.

    • @paneljigman
      @paneljigman  8 років тому +1

      this is part of a multi function spot welder. basically, the slide hammer has a small electrode tip that welds to the panel. It's a little bit quicker than a pin gun, but much more expensive to buy. Eddie

      Hi Alistair, If you have, or can borrow a pin gun like the one shown in the video, then you could fix this at home. Failing that, maybe you could carry out the preparation work and pay a local bodyshop to pull the panel out so you could finish it at home. I know it can be difficult to justify the cost of specialist kit just for one repair. Eddie
