In the 90's, we called this "new school". Never ever thought I'd hear it called "old-school". Old-school punk rock is mid-late 70's, such as Ramones, Clash, Damned, Stiff Little Fingers, etc.

Im 39 and don’t recall seeing this video on MTV. But I didn’t watch much MTV after 96 or so. I do recall watching this music video on Real Player in super low quality with lots of “buffering” sounding like it was played on a toy transistor radio in a bathroom.
My first concert I ever went to was MxPx in Modesto, Ca back in the mid 90s and I have been a fan ever sense. They were my intro into punk music and I never looked back! Still one of my favorite bands to this day!
I remember seeing this on MTV circa 1998. The song, the humor, the subject matter--boffo. Purchased their albums ever since. Looking back 25 years, this kind "punk lite" was really great stuff, when they had good lyrics, good lyrical melodies, and powerful drums with simple power-chord guitars. IS THIS NOSTALGIA I FEEL??!
When I joined the MxPx fan club in the early 2000’s, we got a bunch of pins with Yuri’s face on them. My sister and I used to put them in places for other people to find who had never heard of MxPx. Their reaction was priceless. I loved how MxPx never took themselves too seriously.
I loved them at the time... Haha... Until the guitarist I forgot his name was trying to steal my girlfriend, asking her to come backstage CALLING MY HOUSE.... its been 20 years since that. So I have gotten over it now but it was not cool at the time. Yuri has been timed as one of the fastest drummers of all time on a side note. Since this song is abt him of course haha.
Memória desbloqueada 🥹 eu ouvia essa música na adolescência, até enviei ela como depoimento para um garoto no antigo Orkut. E cá estou eu, 2024, com 29 anos, ouvindo essa maravilha novamente ❤
Still love raging to this song, never gets old. Miss you Mike HMU I've been at Alki Beach three years now, we should kick it this summer. Chick Magnet Chick Magnet Yeah!
This was so fun when it came out on Sat. night TV. Was their having fun video & was great to see Yuri cut loose & be the chick magnet. A never forget, one in a million songs. They weren't actors, they were punk rawkers but it didn't matter. They were the best.
Dude, Yuri walking in thru the glass door and ruffling his hair with full Pantene shampoo commercial panache and what appears to be a slight slow-mo effect is fucking hilarious. I don't know how I forgot about this song having an awesome video...
So annoyed with myself! Just saw these guys like 2 weeks ago, Met Mike and talked to him for a bit, took photos of him with strangers and basically acted as an unassigned photographer, and then I forgot to take one of me with him for myself. Good job, me. Good job.
First punk show I ever went to was The Ataris and All in Seattle in 2001. MXPX was just hanging out there and when I saw Yuri, I thought “what is Brian Posehn doing here?!”
The bald dude getting turned on at the end is hilariously perfect. Ha. Also like the dude getting kicked off the barstool at beginning. Excellent video and tune!
I was 14 when I first saw this video on MTV2 (then known as M2). Back then, I saw the guy in this video and thought, "There's no way THAT guy could be a chick magnet". Now I watch the video and think, "I could learn a thing or two from that guy, especially that salt shaker trick".

It sounds like is kind of imitating scat singing. A rehearsed imitation of the sound of scat singing. Also they snap and use very little guitar in that part. That way you hear mostly the bass so it sounds kind of jazz like so that it complements that singing style. @venger1989
I remember seeing this video when it came out. I cackled my ass off. Fucking stupid song. But catchy and still a million times better than the garbage today
A friend of mine gave me this CD because his mom wouldn't allow it in her house. Little did she know that it was even worse in my house. I had to listen to this album outside so that my parents couldn't ever hear it. After all, they tried to guilt me out of listening to Five Iron Frenzy when a different friend lent me a different CD months before

That skat bit has been in my head for about 2 decades now
Me too! It's how I've remembered the song this whole time.
Always
Same
It never goes away. I've never heard such deliberate scatting before or since and probably never will.
His scat is seriously underrated

When I was a prison guard, just before I quit, I played this song on the bass while a prisoner played the guitar. Punk AF.
Thats badass

Remember this on MTV after doing homework back in highschool. Great tune

It’s such a good song
one of the first bass riffs i learned to play... a whole 17 years ago.
Same! 25 yrs ago
The first bassline I learned to play back in 1999. I found my old bass in my parents' garage and it brought back old memories.
SAME hahaha
It's fuckin wild how this song was so many peoples first punk rock bass line they learned. Same here yahahaha
15 years here hahaha
Man, this type of music still hits me in the feels. Still jamming to this two decades later.
This year marks 28 years since its release. MxPx & the Supertones are 2 of my all time favorite bands I still love listening to.
Haven't heard this song since late 90s, had to hear it again, thanks UA-cam.

It's just early pop punk. That's what it was referred to back then.
Did you say good lyrics?
Still listening to this day
MXPX never get old🍻
❤️
MXPX was me and my wife's first dates in the 90's...still going strong 20+ years
Nice! Congratulations! I can't even get a woman to look at me. Definitely not a chick magnet.
thats fuckin dope and wishin u many more years
I saw them 20 years ago and all I got was tinnitus. By far the loudest show I've ever been to.

I love yuri and his introvert way 😍😍
I remember making many photocopies of a picture of Yuri from one on the CD booklets and hiding them all over for people to find.
How this has less than a million views is some kind of internet voodoo mystery.
I just realized that he had chest hair drawn on with a brown marker. Awesome
Tattoo...

This song comes in my head randomly all the time. Saw them at the vans warped tour a few times in ventura
Are you a Mormon?
When i see my oldest son or my nephews out and about this always goes through my head
Such a fun silly and good song back then and now. That bass lines rules.
I can just listen to the bass line over and over....sorta jazzy, and the scat singing is ridiculous

Nobody REALLY wants a "Chick Magnet". Love u Mxpx for your Wisdom.
I seen this on MTV in the 1990s when I had cable TV in my own apartment.
So I haven't heard this since the 90s and it just popped in my head in 2021
I used to work with a bloke when this some come out, his nickname was 'Magnet' ironically of course... we made this song his anthem. good times...

Yuri is the man! Then and now. I hope Mike does some scat on the new album lol I forgot about that part in this song.
This is such an early 2000s song! I love it!
Life in General came out in 96
This is mid 90's.
1996. I was in college.
Some people have issue believing that the 2000's didn't invent pop punk, but it is when it got the most popular.
its funny cause when i saw these guys live yuri got soo many chicks it was insane. he really is a chick magnet.

how does this not have 18 trillion views?!
I'm 37 now and I still remember how cool I felt when I learned the intro on the bass when I was in like 7th grade

I was a teenager growing up in Seattle in the 90s I saw pokinatcha punk stickers EVERYWHERE. Waited constantly to hear this song on The End.
To me, that is the essence of punk. Fuck what other people think they know about it, just play what you feel. Play it loud, play it proud
The song that kids could learn and make all their friends think they were way better at bass than reality.
Video Director: "You guys just sit in this booth and look at this plate of fries while he sings. We've got a music video!" Genius.

the guy yeah, he's got style and it's plain to see
Smooth shoes and cool tattoos
Hair pomped as tight as can be
He ain't got a girlfriend
No one to sing this song to
He's gotta settle down
If he meets that special girl soon
He knows just what to do
When it comes to the girls
He writes them poetry
And he picks them flowers
He knows just what to say
When it comes to the ladies
Knows how to make a girl smile
How to drive a girl crazy
