What do you think? Is Bali the best place for tourists in Indonesia or do you have another favourite spot?

Mantap! Loved how you showcased both places, I would be so keen to visit Lake Toba sometime. The other parts of Sumatra I went to were amazing :)

Hello from CA. Great video. Bali was great 4me before internet but now looking for nature without hordes of tourists and traffic. Loved Java, esp Yogya & Malang. Really enjoyed Sulawesi watching big ships from Unjung Padang, textiles in Sumba & Timor, river travel in New Guinea(Asmat) or hiking with Dani. Traveled in Sumatra to the Minangkabau and ate delicious vegetarian food and enjoyed cool weather.
Looking forward to more travel in Indonesia., esp Lake Toba seeing Si Gale-Gale funeral dance. Terima kasih. 💃

Hi Liz! Yes, nature without crowds is our style too - guess that's why we love it here so much. I'm sure there are sooo many other islands in Indonesia that offer that too - looking forward to seeing them one day - if we ever get done with Sumatra haha. Sounds like you've seen a great chunk of it 😀

Hi! I watched this video while ago, and i subscribe your channel for about few months, i like your videos and is always good to see the new ones. Just my opinion about that topic, i've been to Toba 3 years ago, to celebrate Christmas and New Year with my future wife (she is born in Jakarta but parents are Batak, originally from small village near Toba). I absolutely loved Toba, such a magical and beautiful place... After i came back to Europe and couldn't come back to Indo because of covid, finally i made it back, my wife moved to Bali, i joined her, we got married and already have our lovely son :) I'm already in Bali 1 and half year, i like it here but here is also many things i don't like, even we live in village in Tabanan, is hard to avoid that tourist and being bule vibe, nature and landscapes are beautiful, but i feel like i'm missing something, is hard to describe. I can't compare living in Bali to living in Toba, i was only visitor there for about 2 weeks, but i miss that Toba vibe, i'm thinking to move there someday, definitely we want to come back there and explore more of Sumatra as well, then we can decide what's next. I'm happy for you guys, enjoying life in Toba, and like i said, its good to hear from you and see new videos. Stay healthy and have a good time!

Hi! Thanks so much for being a subscriber, we really appreciate you watching our videos! ☺
How lovely your wife's family are Batak! Do you know the name of their village? We totally agree that Lake Toba is a magical place too! There's just something special about it. We lived in Bali for about a year - didn't like Ubud or Canggu at all. But we ended up living in Amed, which is much more of a village vibe. We enjoyed it, but there was still that Sumatra magic that was missing! I'm glad we had a chance to stay there and see what it's like, because it made us appreciate Sumatra - and Lake Toba - so much more.
I hope you get a chance soon to explore Sumatra and spend some more time here. Maybe it will end up being your home too!
Thanks so much for the lovely comments, and hope to see you here in Tuk Tuk some day. 🙏🙏☺

@@ExploringSumatra Hi! Sorry for late reply but I'm pretty busy these days.
My wife village called Sidikalang, i said it's near Toba but is actually about an hour drive, but yeah, still near i think :) Sidikalang is beautiful too, and its famous for coffee.
I agree about Ubud and Canggu, specially Cangu i can't stand, and all of them tourist areas in Bali, been to Amed and i liked, also far north in Tabanan is pretty nice chill vibe but still there's something missing.
Our son is 6 months old at the moment so we planning to travel to Sumatra when he's at least 1 year old, for now we just travel around Bali, would be difficult to travel that far with such a small baby.
But yeah, we will get to Toba someday and hope to see you there!

Great video! Only been to Sumatra…met my hubby there…never made it to Bali, not really interested until I’ve explored every square inch of beautiful virgin Sumatra … so happy to see the majestic Sumatra getting the love it deserves 😊
Sumatra truly has it all. I love that it attracts a different type of nature-loving tourist as well…
Can’t wait to visit Berastagi for the delicious fruit and “cold” weather, Pulau Weh & Mentawai for the beaches, Padang for the best fooooood everrrrr, and of course some more chilling out in Lake Toba for it’s serenity, waterfalls, and welcome vibes 😍 (and of course looking forward to discovering more beautiful places that are even more off the beaten track and the best kept secrets of Indonesia.)
Thank you for bringing me a bit of Paradise. Can’t wait to call it home someday 🥰

Ahhh couldn't agree more! I (Carly) didn't venture to Bali until I'd been to Sumatra half a dozen times. I had high expectations and was really disappointed as my experience there was nothing like my experience in Sumatra! Eventually learned to appreciate Bali for being Bali (although we could only stay there long term by escaping to Amed!), but Sumatra will always be my first, second, and third option! So much to explore here that it could take a lifetime, which is a beautiful thing.
Thanks so much for commenting - so happy we can bring Sumatra to the people who can't be there for now! :) Here's hoping it can be your home sooner rather than later. 😀🙏

    I agree with you Carly!
There is a very strong energy here in Lake Toba, and I may say is a healing and pure one coming from the new earth of the super volcano. It is a blessing to be here, a place that changed the course of #humanity 🫶🏻

I was to Bali about 25 years ago and I have been following your videos from Indonesia for a while. I love to see them and I it's a dream for me to go to Sumatra or to visit friends in Medan area or Jakarta.

Hi Birgitta - thanks for commenting - and so happy you've been watching and enjoying our videos! That is such a big incentive for us to keep making them every week. Did you enjoy Bali when you visited back then? It must have been slightly quieter, although I imagine still pretty popular! Even ten years ago here in Toba things were quite different. There has been a lot of development, but it still has a real authentic vibe. Hope you can make it back to Indonesia soon. ☺🙏

Both places sound great - two different experiences - maybe people should go to Bali and then chill out at Toba. So much on offer - and of course I know you have beeen to other places that you have loved too. Future vids ! 💚💚💛🌻

My wife and I just came back from Lake Toba. Your videos certainly had a part with that decision. Loved our brief 6 day trip there. Will definitely go again.
And yes, loved that it feels so much more laid back than Bali. Hope that doesn't change.
