The major cities as well as the checkpoint rest town has a vendor to get you an early good upgrade but I recommend ignoring buying one and going straight to the castle in the ancient battlegrounds that will carry you so far in the game especially enemies weak to fire
For the infernal edge I went to the ancient battleground earlier for the the vault key and looted a book that the guy needs to finish so the quest just says find the book and return it
Level? It scales to level and your current rank in the vocation I think. Because my secondary character is lower level and rank in mystic spearhand but doesn’t have the stats that my main has yet. It could also be because my main was a thief class for a while and maybe my stay spread is a little bit higher because of that too. I would have to check and do some testing on that never really noticed until you said something. Thanks for letting me know tho
