    Highly instructive video, one of my favourite for the Viggen, thank you very much Badjoe!

    IRL, missile engagement zones are layered with multiple types of missiles, with differing search methods, engagement profiles, and detection areas. They will be augmented by fighter engagement zones and other areas where they expect enemy presence, infiltration, or activity.
    Btw, I love the Viggen. It's a great jet and is superb at interdiction/attack style missions. I'd love to see the Panavia Tornado in DCS for the same reasons, except it is even quicker than the Viggen and has a stunning array of air to surface weaponry that it can employ...
    Anyway, excellent video, please keep them coming. :)

      Thank you I'm glad you enjoyed the video! And the Tornado would be cool indeed as a companion to the Viggen.
      And yeah, IRL there would be way more missile defences guarding an expensive system like the S-300, this was kind of a "Can I take out an S-300 in the Viggen? Oh shit I can!" haha

      @@Badjoe117 I don't know why many people IRL (and in the sim community) regard Russian anti-air missiles as some sort of Jedi wonder weapon that can just threaten aircraft and they fall out of the sky.. They have strengths, and weaknesses. In the sim world, the ECM/ECCM code reflects the dearth of real-world information being available due to the highly sensitive and classified nature of those items. You have done a good job at showing how to maneuver the jet in such a way as to mitigate the majority of launch techniques levied against your weapons system.
      Hope you have a great new year, filled with more excellent content that we can see here on UA-cam. :)
      Be well..
      Regards,
      Karl

      @@karlchilders5420 I think it is just that people don't have the experience to deal with air defences and so many have been shot down by them at long distances. I used to fear most of the long range SAMs. But after doing these test runs I did here (I did one before recording.) I found that I no longer really fear radar guided SAMs other than the SA-15 if it catches me unaware and I don't have time to dive to break line of sight. Since we fly the Viggen so low combined with its speed we get plenty of time to break LOS to most air defences compared to A-10's and such which usually fly up high.
      And hope you have a good new year too! I'll hopefully be uploading more content now that the holidays are over.

      Thanks and I don't know actually haha. Though I am a very calm person, so for me it is kind of normal. Then on top of that I have some experience in flying the Viggen so I know roughly where the limit goes on what I can and cannot do.

    Hello Sir.
    Thank you for a interesting and informative video.
    Technically SEAD means "Suppression of enemy air defence", ie blinding the enemy/jamming and forcing the enemy to turn off their radars and "hold fire" (Soft kill if you like).
    What so many confuse SEAD with is DEAD, "Destruction of enemy air defence", who´s purpose is to literally destroy/bomb enemy air defence infrastructure and launch platforms.
    Many dedicated SEAD missions turns into DEAD missions, depending on how stubborn the enemy AD is/deathwish is.
    So SEAD and DEAD is technically two different things, that is often combined.
    Take a look into the F-4/F-16 wild weasel mix, that is a pretty good example on how SEAD/DEAD goes hand in hand but is two different things.
    The SEAD plane finds the emitter with the DEAD plane moving in for the kill while the SEAD blinds and confuse the emitter.
    When you say that S-300 sites are protected by its own network, you are absolutely correct.
    That is part of Tor´s, Pantsirs and Tunguska´s jobdescription among other things.
    Research the Russian deployment in Syria at Khemeimim and Quamishli air bases.

    • @Badjoe117
      @Badjoe117  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you for your comment. And yeah SEAD and DEAD are two completely different things that are related to each other. We usually use the term SEAD for both actions as more people are familar with what SEAD means as a broad term. When you have more newcomers it tends to be the easiest way to explain a mission involving attacking enemy air defences in one quick word.

      @@Badjoe117 You are welcome and yes, often "laziness" comes before "Correctness".

    All of this, I do it without trackIR ;) just a bit of adaptation to handle the mouse in the left hand and a fast acces button on my joystick to toggle clickable cockpit. I'm as efficient as some of my friend with their TrackIR. And I fly Helos, too. And same in BMS. The most difficult thing without TrackIR for me is A/A refueling with the Harrier.
    Nice video. I was very doubtful about the RB-75 choice. But you seems to be very efficient with them. For this kind of situation i'll carefuly study the map to set a series of waypoints avoiding large forests zones and threats. I'll go CQC with the S-300. Then i'll have the choice between BK-90 or high drag bombs. I find Bk-90 way too easy so I usually go for bombs. RB-05 is also very effective in CQC, simple and powerful. I find that the most lethal SAM for me is the SA-19. It don't have a great range, but when I manage to go CQC, its guns rip me apart every time.. No choice with them : RB-75 if you manage to spot them (which can be very hard) or BK-90.
    Cheers from France.

    • @Badjoe117
      @Badjoe117  6 років тому

      Thank you, I'm glad you liked it! And yeah I played for several years without TrackIR, using the hat switch and all that for view. And it is definitely doable without it, just that getting TrackIR is like getting your first rudder pedals, you didn't think you'd need them much, but once you get used to it it is hard to go back again. haha
      And usually I go with the RB75s as normally you don't have much information on the SAMs and all that in a multiplayer game. In my mission those units were supposed to be "concealed" as we only knew the location of the S-300 and not the others, but assumed that they were sprinkled all over the place. But since the Viggen is a planning aircraft and I have enough information to make a detailed flight path then I'd definitely go with the BK90s for maximum destruction, or a couple of Viggens with High drag bombs which are also fun to use. And yeah the SA-15 and SA-19 are a pain to deal with, as they can shoot down both RB-75s and BK90s with their missiles/cannons. Even the S-300 shot down the first maverick in this video when I watched the Tacview.
      What I do love about the RB-75s though is the long 20+km range on them and they are usually a guaranteed kill.

      Badjoe117 Yes they have pretty long legs, specialy with the speed of the Viggen to help them.

    • @Badjoe117
      @Badjoe117  6 років тому

      I did have some good results the first time against the same S-300 as in this video, narrowing down the area to a couple of Km. But then after trying it a few times again I was unable to get a good prediction. I know you have to get a signal from as many angles as possible to get a good prediction of the area. But I think nav drift might have been the problem, so maybe you have to fly low to make sure TERNAV updates it constantly? Or do nav fixes on recognizable landmarks when flying high.

    • @Badjoe117

      No idea, probably somethung with the code or radar cross section perhaps? In the tacview they launched several missiles at the Maverick but by the time they fired the missile was unable to turn fast enough to hit due to the close range.

    Thanks for a great video! Has some good tips & advice. About evading the missiles in the end of the video - can you open up a little bit more your technique? When the missile gets close, you'll just basically out turn it?

    • @Badjoe117
      @Badjoe117  6 років тому

      Pretty much yeah, pull back as much as you think you can on the stick. If you go too fast then you might lose your wings due to too high G-forces on them, or you could quickly black out. But I find that as long as you are below supersonic you can safely pull some high G's. Observe the G-meter to the right of the hud and clock when I'm evading and you can see me pull alot of G's

    Would you recommend the bk90 or mavericks for sead? The bk90 has decent standoff range of 8km when launched correctly, obviously shorter then the mavericks range but can be launched alot faster without having to lockup the targeting monocle . Come in at 20meters at mach 0.9 popup to 100meters at 10km from target and launch at 8km dip back down to 20m and GTFO

    • @Badjoe117
      @Badjoe117  4 роки тому +1

      Theoretically they would be very good in that role as AA and SAM units are fragile. And I haven't played DCS in a few months now, but last I played the BK90 itself was really hard to land good hits on target with, even with a recent nav fix and nominal launch conditions they would often deploy their payload too far from the target. And while they work sometimes they were very unreliable in dealing consistent damage. The Rb75s on the other hand can only get at most 1xkill per missile (unless enemies are bunched up) but they are nearly 100% reliable in reaching their target unless they are shot down.

      @@YaaqobhTV The Viggen is definitely a difficult bird to start off with. I would say it is more of a plane for more experienced pilots, as it lacks a good RWR and countermeasures. It is also a bit limited in what weapons it can carry and of course the fact the cockpit is in Swedish can make things difficult for some as well.
      The good parts however, it is very fast and you have to fly most of the time by just looking out of the canopy rather than staring at the RWR and Radar as in many planes. So it is a very rewarding and unique plane to fly when you get good at it. You fly it quite similar to how you would fly an old WW2 aircraft in a way.
      And I don't own the FA18 myself but I think it would be a great place to start as it is very flexible in what it can do without being overwhelming. Plus you get the whole carrier operations and air to air refueling thing which the Viggen can't do.
