Destiny is literally my favorite sci-fi universe of all time, but one thing you need to be aware of is that in the eary days of Destiny 1 (what you guys are watching here) the story in the actual game was very bare-bones. Most of the story and lore was told in supplemental articles and resources OUTSIDE of the game, which gave a lot of context to what was happening in the game which is totally absent from these cutscenes. This is a thing they have since changed, and if you continue with this journey you will see the story get much more coherent, better written, and compelling pretty much continually until you reach the point wer'e at today, where the story is the highpoint of the entire franchise. But it does take some time to get there.
From a narrative perspective we should give at least a little credit as it's quite difficult to onboard a freshly resurrected memory wiped greenhorn into a complex and historied world where they have to piece together everything thats going on, portraying a character who has no idea what's going on, while also attempting to allow the player embodying said character to know whats going on themselves, you kind of are forced to use external story telling up to the point that our guardian becomes the true focal point
@@velraven8944 Everything you said is totally legit, but the fact is a lot of the narrative issues D1 had at launch were due to the game being forced to undergo a complete re-write at the 11th hour, when most of the actual gameplay content was already finished. The reasons why are too much to go into here (but there's lots of good info about it around on UA-cam, its quite a story) but essentially the original D1 story campaign is composed of a bunch of missions which were already completed, then had their narrative elements stripped and remixed and put back together to form a new story, all within the last 6 months or so before the game was released. The result is a story which barely qualifies as a story in the actual game- it meanders, it makes very little sense taken on its own, and it was rightly criticized harshly at the time the game released. A lot of the detail and context was then filled in by the grimoire cards, which were available on Bungie.net but not accessible in game, after the fact. I suppose that they did the best they could, but the narrative of the first year of Destiny is extremely messy and difficult to get into without doing tons of external research, largely because of that last-minute reboot of the story during development. The story team really first started to get their feet under them with the release of the Taken King, and though there have been ups and downs I think pretty much everyone is happy with their work in the past couple years, so they clearly learned from their mistakes and turned things around.
Fun fact, the Ghost's voice was only changed into what you hear a little while after the game's launch. Until then, the ghost was actually voiced by Peter Dinklage! :D Ahh Dinklebot, how I miss you... But Nolan North does a good job and is iconic to the ghost at this point :)
It was jarring when they changed his voice since Nolan and Peter sound nothing alike, but Ghost is as much a part of the team as anyone. Vanguard included.
Fun fact is there is an easter egg where you can hear Ghost use Peter Dinklage's voice in the beginning (before changing back to Nolan North), but it's sadly random. Meaning you'd have to repeatedly create new characters until you get it.
You guys absolutely need to see the cutscenes from the Witch Queen DLC. Some of the revelations are... Wow. Just... Wow. Also, the reason the Fallen hate humanity (and your Ghost) was that at one time in the Lore's past, The Traveller graced the Fallen with its presence before it abandoned them in the face of the Darkness. They were/are called the Eliksni, but to reflect their status and their collapse after the Traveller abandoned them, they are referred to as The Fallen. The Fallen are organized into Houses (House of Devils, House of Wolves, etc...).
So there are 3 races you can set your character as those being human, awoken, and exo and in this case the player chose to be an awoken. Humans are obvious, awoken are the blue people who were humans from a colony ship that got caught in a spacetime anomaly, and exo's are humans who had their minds uploaded into a robot body. All guardians used to be dead people who were brought back to life by their ghost to be a guardian.
Just randomly started watching yalls destiny videos and then I saw this uploaded a few hours ago. You guys are in for a ride. I hope you can follow the story from just the cutscenes. Edit: Oh my god youre just straight up watching the gameplay, i love this.
Yeah Gamers little playground does a good job of adding the dialogue that happens in game as well. For larger games and franchises like this we’ve learned from community and experience that the in game stuff is important and just cutscenes is tough to piece together 😅
You don’t understand how happy I am you’re reacting to this game I’ve been playing this game since 2014 at the age of 12 I have got so much memories of this game it’s been a crazy journey
@@celestialknight1592 I mean I play d1 every now and then but I’ve definitely moved onto d2 lol they can’t make fun out of D2 it’s one of the most played games rn
😎🤟 glad we are finally getting to it. We’ve been putting off the bigger games cuz it doesn’t fit in format we laid out but this having expansions is great cuz we can do each one as different parts 😅
the Fallen(Eliksni) where a race that the Traveller visited before but ran when the Darkness showed up and they chased it, as a result their society ended up becoming pirates and scavengers. the Hive are a humanoid insect race that worship the Darkness and are ruled over by Oryx and his two sisters Savathun and Xivu Arath, they are kinda ment to be a dark mirror to humanity.
Thank you so much, I literally have been waiting for you guys to check out some more of this amazing universe, hopefully you enjoy your Journey as much as we did :)
There is no official guardian (player look/face) you can customize your own with the choices the games gives you, so you have more creative freedom making them male or female with whatever race, hair, etc.
The Destiny universe is an incredible place and I’m glad you two are getting into it, a lot of people have already caught you up on some things and I’m happy. Hope you enjoy!
The blue people were once Human, but they encountered a mix of darkness and light out in space, and it changed them. They are called the Awoken, they all have the translucent/glowy skin. You can play as a Human, an Awoken or an Exo like Cayde-6.
I really love that you are reacting to Destiny! This game, especially the first one, is so beautiful but of course, it had its ups and downs. There are going to be a lot of things you won't understand so early on into the story, especially since many things were more put into the Lore. I recommend watching "Destiny Story for Beginners" by My name is Byf. In that playlist, he explains races and our enemies a little easier for people new to the game and its story. I would recommend watching Lore Channels for better understanding and information gathering! There are even videos out there explaining the WHOLE Destiny Story, from Destiny 1 to Destiny 2. Have Fun and Welcome to the World of Destiny! Eyes up Gaurdian!
I wonder why they had to set the game so early, given there was no chance that was gonna be feasible without the Traveler by the time the game was made...
Woo, Destiny! I remember running back home to try the beta in July 2014 after work, and two of my friends already made characters, one a Warlock and the other a Titan. So I made the third option, a Hunter, and seven years later I've never looked back. First time I killed Crota on hard mode in winter '15 I didn't have time to celebrate as the cold burst a pipe. I beat Garden of Salvation in October '19 within a week of its release, buzzer beating the reset by an hour and a half, and my victory cry woke the neighbors. Some of my favorite moments in all of games were in this one. I love this game.
Welcome to my favorite game of all time. It’s been 8 years full of memories and meeting new friends during this journey and still meeting new ones to this day. This game at first was like another type of Halo generic shooter to me but when I played the raid Vault Of Glass for the first time ever I was mind blown and I already knew how much time I was going to spend on this game and how much I love this game. 8 years and still going, 8 years and still having the same magic and having that nostalgia. The gameplay is insanely fun, chaotic and unique. Also, the lore and story for this game is super massive, mysterious and super deep. I can still going and say so much things that I like about this game but if I keep going I will never stop talking. Oh and before I finish, Warlock main here since 2014 !
Glad you guys are checking out the series as a journey. The base game is a bit rough on story (Bungie had to reconstruct the storyline in 2013 after finding the initial story too cheesy) but it gets better with each expansion. And you can customize your character between male and female three races, Humans, Awoken (the race GLP is playing as), and Exos (like Cayde-6; the numbers also have significance), and classes: Hunters (GLP is playing as one), Titans, and Warlocks. And there’s gonna be some stuff that’ll get confusing later on if you just play the games, so another individual you should contact is My Name is Byf. He does tons of lore videos on the franchise so he could probably direct you to some of his older ones that don’t spoil future events
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Byf is a Warlock by blood (most Warlocks are scholar types that study history and The Traveler), which you’ll see in his gameplay. He’s even done animated lore vids for the series
Hearing you’ll be doing all of destiny makes me so happy man I can’t wait to see the rest of your journey to this games story! Also idk if it’ll be included but there’s seasonal storyline’s too when you get to destiny 2 and they have pretty good dialogue for story and information along with its own cutscenes can’t wait to see your reactions
Wow you guys really are watching a lot, that’s awesome! A fair disclaimer tho, D1 is known to having quite of a rough start in the story department. It gets better in The Taken King, and then Destiny 2’s base game story is a lot more cohesive than D1’s but there are stumbles as well. I’d say most of the good stuff is buried in lore, but man, the past two years especially Bungie has really upped their story game, we have a LOT of good dialogue and themes.
The ghosts voice was originally peter dinklage. They went back and redid the voice with the guy they put for Destiny 2. I picked the Warlock class which is what Ikora is the leader of. They get trench coats.
Ohhh hell yeah. This is where it all began for lots of us. I remember getting the game on the day it came out but got it for the xbox one but I didnt have an xbox one until a weel later lol. So I just had the game case to look at XD Just ahh the starting cutscene is something special.
My friends and I played the original destiny to death! We loved that game and played it for 4 years before we slowly all quit, seeing this introduction again brings back so many memories
Ikora Rey was voiced by Gina Torres. Now voiced by Mara Junot. Commander Zavala is voiced by Lance Reddick, who is the front desk attendant Charon in the John Wick movies. Cayde-6 was voiced by Nathen Fillion up until 2018 with the release of Forsaken, where Nolan North, who also voices Ghost, took up the mantle. The Speaker, as you'll see, was voiced by none other then Bill Nighy AKA Davey Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and At World's End. Just listen to how each character says certain words, you'll pick up who is who.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames You're welcome! Lord Shaxx (you'll see him in white and orange armor, with a helmet that has one horn) is voiced by Lennie James, who starred in The Walking Dead. Exo Stranger was voiced by Lauren Cohan, also from The Walking Dead. Now voiced by Moira Quirk. These are some characters that have a semi-famous name attached to them.
To answer the question on the skin color difference. the reason that their are some characters with blue skin is because they are referred to as awoken think of them as sort of humanity’s cousin in a way. If you are still curious about the difference I would recommend you guy look at youtube channel called “my name is byf” he has a whole playlist for the three “human” race found in the game and a bunch of other destiny lore related topic . Other than that I’m glad you guys are still enjoying this series so far can’t wait to y’all reaction to the rest of the game
Very excited for these reactions! Cant wait to see more of it! In Destiny 2, I would also suggest watching seasonal story missions, since those have important storythings in them too! The Hive arent really like The Flood, but they pose a threat to just about everyone. The Witch Queen and The Taken King are Hive gods for example! The fallen (also known as the eliksni) are my favourite of the 'enemy' races. Eventually you'll see more story and lore on how not everything is so black and white, even when its about enemy aliens. Also, the fallen archons are pretty high ranking members in their ranks and have religios leader like position, even if they obviously also fight. Theres few other alien races, but you will have to get to know them more on your own time! ;)
If you’re interested in the backstory of the hive there’s a UA-cam video called “dynasty” by mynameisbyf that goes in depth and even has some fan animated/voice acted sections
I'm glad you guys are covering Destiny. The past several seasons have been phenomenal, but it... took some time to get rolling. The big DLCs for Destiny (Taken King and Rise of Iron) were pretty good in my opinion, then once you get into Destiny 2 DLCs, stuff gets really good. I'd also love to recommend Destiny 2 to play, but it's not exactly a "pick up and put down" game. But, I can't wait for the future reactions!
It will continue just not every week after June. In July it will be a new franchise on Mondays but we will still be checking out Destiny through all the expansions and D2 😀
I miss the old days of Destiny. The music is amazing. Made long lasting friends on this game. We had a leader on this game that was awesome. He helped with a lot of dark times in my life with this game. Sadly, he passed away 9 yrs ago. So, watching this hits hard. I can't even play Destiny 2. Without wanting to lose it. I still own the game. I just can't play it.... Not anymore.
Now matter how I feel about the destiny at the moment, the world building and atmosphere are always amazing. But most of all..the fallen know how to make an entrance
About the blue people you mentioned, it's actually a different race, in the start, you can get to choose one of 3 races and then customize your appearance further after that, There's still obviously humans like Ikora, the blue people aren't undead people, but instead, an entirely different race, called the "Awoken", the robots aren't called robots, but are instead called "Exos", how they came to be is still quite a mystery, this whole customization for your character is entirely cosmetic and doesn't change anything though.
Such a great game, despite all its short-comings and issues at launch. A lot of very good memories were made playing this game almost daily, day in and day out. Even today, I still do the same thing but on Destiny 2. Just not as many friends to play it with.
So few fun facts 1.) The creators of this game destiny and destiny 2 were made by the development team bungie who used to be a part of Microsoft and made the halo series this game was their 1st attempt after separating and was very successful. 2.) The hive is destiny's version of the flood yes 3.) The ghost used to be voiced by peter dinklage and there are videos of his voice as ghost but due to scheduling conflicts with him being in game of thrones at the time he had to drop the roll and nolan north picked up the roll instead he also voices Nathan drake in uncharted series. 4.) Each ghost has a specific partner and they must look for them. Ghost cannot resurrect anyone except their chosen partner. The player/guardian can be resurrected and infiniate amount of time but if the ghost dies they cannot be resurrected and if they die that's it, the term is called final death.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Still worth it, if you're feeling a little lost. Destiny has an incredible story, but I'll fully acknowledge that it is both dense and complicated, not to mention a little difficult to get into since it's not clear where you should begin. I'd love to see your guys reaction to this!
When it comes to enemy factions, they basically have Halo counterparts. Fallen = Elite-aligned Covenant Cabal = Brute-aligned Covenant Hive = Flood Vex = Sentinels These aren't exact comparisons, but it's a general way to explain how they feel to people already familiar with Halo.
The Fallen were the previous chosen of the light, but the traveler abandoned their civilization when the darkness arrived destroying their home. As the Fallen had worshipped the Great Machine (their name for the traveler) they had a full blown religion dedicated to it, with Servitors built in its image providing Ether (artificial light) as sustenance for the survivors. The Archons if I remember, were almost as high ranked as their kings/Kells, and communed with the Servitors and Prime Servitors; but, their lore isn't really well explored as the Archon social class is extinct, with the last traditional Archon having been killed by the time of destiny 2.
The blue people are a race called The Awoken: The Awoken are a humanoid race sharing common ancestry with Earth humans. They descend from the crew and passengers of the Yang Liwei, a colony ship that disappeared in a spacetime anomaly during the Collapse. Time in the Distributary, the homeworld of the Awoken, flows differently, and Awoken society has had thousands upon thousands of years to flourish and build. Robots are called Exo: (or simply Exos as they are more commonly known) are self-aware humanoid machines built by humanity in the Golden Age. Unlike mass-produced robotic frames, Exos are human minds uploaded in artificial bodies. And then there are of course humans. like Ikora Rey.
There are three races you can choose from to make your character. There are regular humans, exos (the robot people), and the awoken (blue people). The expos were created in the golden age and they are robot that had a person's brain uploaded into it. They were designated to be a similar to an actual body as possible because if it was slightly different then the person's brain would recognize that it's not their body and tear itself apart. When someone becomes an exo they have all their memories wiped and the number at the end of their names shows how many times they were wiped. The awoken were people who were changed during the collapse when the travel repelled the darkness. This caused them to have their blue skin and gave some of them supernatural powers. The four main enemy races in this game are the fallen, hive, vex, and cabal. The fallen was the last enemy race that the traveler visited before coming to us. They were forced to flee from their home world when the darkness and oryx destroyed their civilization. They came to our solar system to take back the traveler. The hive are a species that serves the darkness. They go from planet to planet killing everything they come across and they hunter down the traveler. The leaders of the hive are the siblings oryx, savathun, and xivu arath. The vex are a cybernetic race of aliens that can travel through time. They run millions of simulations to find the best timeline for them. There are a few vex strongholds where they could erase enemies for existence. There is one group of vex that worships the darkness. The cabal are soldiers that were sent out to add our solar system to their empire. Their entire culture is centered around war and conquest. Every time a legion is sent out of the empirical they are basically exiled until they accomplish their mission.
me when i started destiny 1: haha fun space shooter ooh hunters have a cool cape me at destiny 2: darkness and light are but two halves of the same coin, and we draw upon both to bend to our whims as we are all paracausal, capable of the impossible... ooh hunters have a cool cape
Also you can be a human awoken the purple and blue human people and a Exo witch is a robot with the consciousness of a once living person who by choice or not was turned into one
The "blue" people are part of a race called the "Awoken", which is a race that was created by an encounter of light, and dark, at least for the first ones, then it was just a simple case of reproduction by natural means :) Some of them did become awoken by "dying" as in, they lost their humanity, but most awokens we encounter in game are just regular born awoken. Exception being Queen Mara Sov and her brother Uldren Sov. those two "became" awoken, Mara first. If i made any mistakes feel free to correct me, been a while since i delved in awoken lore
The part I think that torments me most is the fact of all base game, DLC 1 2 and 3 story was removed and much of it now is in seasons that once a year has passed all vanish
Funny you should mention changing the Ghost's voice...he was originally voiced by Peter Dinklage from Game of Thrones but due to a combination of prior commitments and the community being a little displeased by the performance, they replaced him with Nolan North who you might know from lots of games. Also the blue skin marks you as a member of the Awoken race, a race of humans who were touched by both Light and Darkness and sort of "evolved" into the blue skinned forms. You also have Exos like Cayde-6 who are human minds in robot bodies and regular Humans like Ikora.
TV show. So much going on that it feels like they would butcher it for movies. Clue is the best game developed into a movie. Mainly cuz there was so much freedom to work with 😛
FoR tHe AlGoRiThM Edit: I have a very close contact who has worked for Bungie for a few years now and has a sizable impact on the lore/story of the game. In fact, most of the recent content (dialog, lore descriptions, etc.) are either his writing or from people working directly with him. He would be really happy to see this, think I'll share it with him.
Heck yeah, Destiny! I've been playing since D1 and convinced my friend from Australia to play Destiny 2 with me. She and I knew each other for 10 years prior but playing Destiny 2 gave us a chance to talk more and spend more time together. Long story short, she's flying to the Caribbean this August and we're getting married!
Man, this brings back memories. I think Bungie levelled up with regards to storytelling towards the end of D1, start of D2. Some of the cinematics are amazing 🙂
I read half the comments to see if anyone else said something... F it if they did I'm saying it too. Such a shame at the very end when the ghost says you gotta see this and the player runs in th opposite direction of what you should see. Swing and a miss! The communications array was a huge moving set piece that looked pretty cool when it was setting up and then also when it was finally set up.
bungie made a good storyline for destiny 1 and 2. de Curse od osiris DLC is really fun dude. there is an Cutscene with an titan.legendary titan. i wont spoil what he did and it was so cool. any guardian hasn killed an minotaur like that.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames There is a character Awoken Paladin Petra Venj, who served around Guardians for a while now that literally calls Guardians unquestioning Zombies in her personal log or a communique. I thought it was really funny and spot on so I remember it. That was the big thing that caused me to lose interest in Destiny, Years went by and your character still did not ask once how or why is he alive again.
So Destiny isnt purely Sci-fi and thats one of my favorite things about it. Its Sci-fi fantasy meaning there is actual magic and gods and mythical creatures alongside space travel, high tech weapons, lasers, etc. This combination of these two genres leads one of the coolest art directions in gaming. Destiny 1's armor often combines elements of fantasy into futuristic halo-like armor. Theres a PvP event called Iron Banner and its very medieval themed in its aesthetic leading to lots of plate armor, knight helmets, and fur coifs. The Guardians were each given a Ghost by the Traveler and your ghost can revive you as many times as you want. You are functionally immortal as a Guardian. But your ghost can only rez you and no one else. If your ghost dies you are mortal again but it takes a lot to kill a ghost. The power we wield is called the Light and the Traveler is a sort of ambassador of the Light. The Traveler isnt the Light itself it simply channels it but it does it so well its considered a God. it chooses races to bless with the Light and has a nasty habit of abandoning them and taking its blessing to someone else when it feels like that race cant protect it. The Fallen are a victim of this. Their race is actually called Eliksni and they lived on a planet called Riis. Much like us they had the light and were blessed by the Traveler which they call it The Great Machine. (Eliksni kinda worship machines) But when the forces of Darkness came to their planet the Traveler left. The Eliksni faced a collapse like Humanity would later on. They call it the Great Whirlwind though. They had to take to the stars and they followed the Traveler to Earth. They hold a grudge against Humanity and seek to kill us to reclaim the light. But they arent all bad. In recent months of Destiny 2 we've made an alliance with a House of fallen named House of Light. You may see it for yourself when you react to D2 stuff so i wont go into detail. The Hive are not like the flood. its not like an Infection or anything. They're just a very bug-like species and they are very spooky looking. The Hive lived on an ocean planet named Fundament where the Osmium King and his daughter Sathona would be warned of a coming doomsday, a God Wave which would kill them all on the island they lived upon. This warning came in the form of a big worm that washed ashore. Sathona took her sisters Xi Vo and Aurash into the depths of the planet in a ship called the Needle and on their way found a massive creature known as The Leviathan, it told them to turn back, to run from the Deep and believe in the Sky instead. They pressed on and found massive entities called The Worm Gods. The Worm Gods offered them immortality, power, and survival. In exchange they would each house a larva inside them and would feed it with tribute. The river of tribute would find these 3 rising to Godhood themselves. Aurash became Auryx (She also became a he at this point) and then with the slaying of the worm god Akka he became Oryx, The Taken King. Sathona would become Savathun, The Queen of Cunning or as she is also known: The Witch Queen. Xi Vo would become Xi Vu and she became the Goddess of War. The Hive operated from that point on using whats called the Sword Logic which states that if something is unfit to live it deserves to die until only the strongest living being is left in the universe. This end goal is called The Final Shape. The Hive thus wage war forever upon every living thing they find. They carve out moons to use as massive warships and bases, they use dark magics, and they do not quit. They despise the Traveler for the Traveler simply gives. Under the darkness you simply take. Except in D2 we learn the Hive were tricked. The Traveler was going to Bless them but the Worm Gods and the Darkness lied to them and sent them on this harrowing path. Theres 2 other races which you havent seen so i wont go into detail but there is something i have to let you know. The Traveler is an ambassador of the light, it isnt the Light itself. In Destiny 1, the Darkness wasnt really defined. It was some sort of nebulous thing that just sorta existed. This was a big criticism of the game and you really never figured out exactly what you were really fighting when it came to the darkness. D1's story and gameplay was largely messed up due to some corporate stuff and dev changes and we are really just now getting on track to the original vision. But in D2 this whole nebulous darkness thing is remedied. In D2 the Darkness is represented by its own ambassador of sorts: The Black Fleet. A fleet of Pyramid Ships that wage war against the Traveler and literally pluck planets out of our solar system. But much like the Traveler, the Fleet isnt the Darkness itself. The Darkness itself is a force and the fleet just uses it. In Beyond Light, we the Guardians actually learn to harness the power of the Darkness alongside our mastery of the light. The first Darkness subclass is called Stasis and is the antithesis of the Solar light subclass in the sense that instead of fire its Ice. These forces of Light and Dark are categorized as Paracausal meaning they are outside the realm of physics and logic. Outside of cause and effect. We can conjure unbreakable shields, manifest guns made of fire, and shoot lightning out of our hands without any of the nasty side effects these things would have on actual reality. They defy reality. Those "Blue people" are the Awoken. They were humans that were at the edge of our solar system when the collapse happened. They were transformed by the forces of Light and Dark and thats about all i know when it comes to the Awoken. They harness paracausal forces in a way different than guardians do. The external lore of Destiny is a phenomenal read and makes the universe of Destiny one of the coolest i have ever had the joy of experiencing. Theres Wild West Duels, magic, wish dragons, weapons of myth, mysteries and lots of history. If you ever want to give some time to reading about it theres a few resources i can give you. Theres the Ishtar Collective website which compiles every scrap of text and lore in the game and categorizes them into easily readable formats, Theres the UA-camr My Name is Byf who does lore readings and a talent for storytelling, and there is the Destiny Grimoire Anthology books sold by Bungie that house some of the most popular and largest stories of the series into comprehensive storytelling format.
Wish Dragons sound cool as hell. And we did notice as we watched it some fantasy elements sprinkled in even in just the names of enemies fought like goblins and Minotaurs 😀
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames the Wish Dragons are called Ahamkara and they're probably one of my favorite creatures in lore. They could grant wishes using their own paracausal power but they would twist your wish like a genie. The cost of their wishes was deemed too high by the Vanguard and they were to be hunted to extinction. Only one survived under the protection of Queen Mara, the leader of the Awoken. A lot of armor in game was crafted using the bones of an Ahamkara and even in death they whisper into the minds of those wearing the bones, granting wishes from beyond the veil. Oh yeah they could also shapeshift as well.

Good information to know and keep in mind. Thanks! 😊
Fun fact, the Ghost's voice was only changed into what you hear a little while after the game's launch. Until then, the ghost was actually voiced by Peter Dinklage! :D
Ahh Dinklebot, how I miss you... But Nolan North does a good job and is iconic to the ghost at this point :)
It was jarring when they changed his voice since Nolan and Peter sound nothing alike, but Ghost is as much a part of the team as anyone. Vanguard included.
Ah dang. Would’ve been fun hearing Dinklage’s voice for this even if it was just for one video 🤗
Fun fact is there is an easter egg where you can hear Ghost use Peter Dinklage's voice in the beginning (before changing back to Nolan North), but it's sadly random. Meaning you'd have to repeatedly create new characters until you get it.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames I think Peter did a great Job, but so many folks said he sounded too robotic........Really? SMH
Thanks so much for the quick lore. We heard first game is light on that in game and used supplemental material so this helps 😀
If you want to know more lore check out the channel, My name is Byf. Amazing destiny channel.
Glad they went with one of the other classes than human for this playthrough 🙂
All these years and I still miss the “That wizard came from the moon” line.
God the opening scene with the Mars lander pod never fails to send tingles down my spine. The music in Destiny is so amazing.
You don’t understand how happy I am you’re reacting to this game I’ve been playing this game since 2014 at the age of 12 I have got so much memories of this game it’s been a crazy journey
Right!?
I played at Beta and have played ever since. My friends make fun of me for playing it still. BUT I DONT CARE ITS GOTTEN SO GOOD
@@celestialknight1592 I mean I play d1 every now and then but I’ve definitely moved onto d2 lol they can’t make fun out of D2 it’s one of the most played games rn
😎👍🙂
Thank you so much, I literally have been waiting for you guys to check out some more of this amazing universe, hopefully you enjoy your Journey as much as we did :)
We have enjoyed it a lot so far 😀 Next Monday part 3 🥳
As someone who has played Destiny since 2016, it gives me nostalgia to see all the cutscenes again. Thank you for the reaction.
There is no official guardian (player look/face) you can customize your own with the choices the games gives you, so you have more creative freedom making them male or female with whatever race, hair, etc.
Makes sense 🙂
The Destiny universe is an incredible place and I’m glad you two are getting into it, a lot of people have already caught you up on some things and I’m happy. Hope you enjoy!
So far so good. We heard it only gets better story wise 😀
To this day still one of my favorite game ever made I had the most memories and it's where I met all my best friends and consider family now
😊 love how that can happen with games
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames same 😀
Been on this journey from day one. It was a bumpy ride sometimes but I'm still proud to have been part of it. Happy to see you guys enjoying it too☺️
Enjoying it so far and know that it only gets better and look forward to Destiny 2 🙂😀
The blue people were once Human, but they encountered a mix of darkness and light out in space, and it changed them. They are called the Awoken, they all have the translucent/glowy skin. You can play as a Human, an Awoken or an Exo like Cayde-6.
😎👍🙂
Thanks for the lore video recommendation. We heard that channel was the lore daddy of Destiny 🙂
The Traveler was apparently discovered in 2014. Which means humanity set foot on Mars before our version! 😂😂
I wonder why they had to set the game so early, given there was no chance that was gonna be feasible without the Traveler by the time the game was made...
We are lagging! 😝
@@skebaba918 Well it seems like a joint effort between at least China, Russia and America.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames It was never fully known until recently when the opening took place. lol. XD
😎🤟☺️ love hearing origin stories for games
One of my favorite game series, cool your reacting to it for the first time
😎🤟🥳
And so it begins.
Good luck!
The story is barebones atm but it will ramp up as you go into D2 and get into Forsaken.
😎👍🙂 looking forward to it
Let's go! Destiny has been my favourite game from launch. Glad you decided to give it a watch! Excited to see more
🥳🥳😀
So many people have similar stories. Someone even mentioned meeting their wife through the game! 😀
The voice of the ghost was originally Peter Dinklage. I was so sad that they changed it.
Can’t believe I’ve been playing this game for 8 years. This video brings a lot of nostalgia to OG destiny players for sure
☺️😊
Thanks so much for the info! We want to see the Warlock class 😀
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Byf is a Warlock by blood (most Warlocks are scholar types that study history and The Traveler), which you’ll see in his gameplay. He’s even done animated lore vids for the series
Yous reacted to my very first and favorite game, I really loved the lore and the armor
We’ve been curious about the story for his game for quite awhile now. 🙂
I imagine we will be doing the seasonal stuff as well but Destiny 2 will be a bit before we get to it 🙂
I've been at this series right from Destiny 1 beta and it's been a wild ride haha
😎🤟🤩
a guardian only truly dies if the ghost dies with them
Noted 🙂
Wow you guys really are watching a lot, that’s awesome! A fair disclaimer tho, D1 is known to having quite of a rough start in the story department. It gets better in The Taken King, and then Destiny 2’s base game story is a lot more cohesive than D1’s but there are stumbles as well. I’d say most of the good stuff is buried in lore, but man, the past two years especially Bungie has really upped their story game, we have a LOT of good dialogue and themes.
Looking forward to seeing the evolution 🙂
The ghosts voice was originally peter dinklage. They went back and redid the voice with the guy they put for Destiny 2. I picked the Warlock class which is what Ikora is the leader of. They get trench coats.
Hopefully we get to see some Warlock action in other dlcs 🙂
You should definitely react to the Past is Prologue trailer, its like a year by year showcase of how far the story has come since the beggining
Thanks for the recommendation 😀
Ahhhhhhh! Finally! I was waiting for you guys to get to these! Can't wait to see what you think about the rest of it. :)

Ohhh hell yeah. This is where it all began for lots of us. I remember getting the game on the day it came out but got it for the xbox one but I didnt have an xbox one until a weel later lol. So I just had the game case to look at XD Just ahh the starting cutscene is something special.
😂 love that you bought the game before the console ☺️😀
Destiny is one of my favorite games, keep going with these vids please

My friends and I played the original destiny to death! We loved that game and played it for 4 years before we slowly all quit, seeing this introduction again brings back so many memories

Welcome back to Destiny

Thanks for giving us the voice actors for each main character
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames You're welcome!
Lord Shaxx (you'll see him in white and orange armor, with a helmet that has one horn) is voiced by Lennie James, who starred in The Walking Dead.
Exo Stranger was voiced by Lauren Cohan, also from The Walking Dead. Now voiced by Moira Quirk.
These are some characters that have a semi-famous name attached to them.
I’m 5 days late but I’m glad you two are experiencing the history of destiny, it is a great game to play and hopefully you’ll love it too👍🏻
It’s okay to be late 🤗 glad you got to watch it and we look forward to the journey 🙂
Destiny has a crazy story and the franchise has been a constant part of my life I hope you guys like
So far so good 😀
To answer the question on the skin color difference. the reason that their are some characters with blue skin is because they are referred to as awoken think of them as sort of humanity’s cousin in a way.
That will be a channel we have to check out as we continue 🙂
Fun fact; Some of the main musical themes of vanilla Destiny 1 were done in collaboration with Sir Paul McCartney.
Oh hell yes 😎🤟 makes us like it even more 😀
You guys have the best reactions!
Theres few other alien races, but you will have to get to know them more on your own time! ;)
We like it when there are shades of grey and races we thought were evil have their own reasons for fighting that we can relate to 🙂
If you’re interested in the backstory of the hive there’s a UA-cam video called “dynasty” by mynameisbyf that goes in depth and even has some fan animated/voice acted sections
Thanks for the lore video rec 😀
I'm glad you guys are covering Destiny. The past several seasons have been phenomenal, but it... took some time to get rolling. The big DLCs for Destiny (Taken King and Rise of Iron) were pretty good in my opinion, then once you get into Destiny 2 DLCs, stuff gets really good.
I'd also love to recommend Destiny 2 to play, but it's not exactly a "pick up and put down" game.
But, I can't wait for the future reactions!
Maybe at Destiny 2 we’d start playing but like you said, not sure we could handle the addiction 😇🤗
I recommend seeing some of the dlcs because not only they’re pretty neat they also have a pretty cool story(in my opinion at least)
I’m looking forward to them reacting to the Taken King, but it looks like they will be a distance away until we reach it

Yooo, they finally did it. Hope this continues through both games till the recent season.
Sorry to hear about your friend 😢
Now matter how I feel about the destiny at the moment, the world building and atmosphere are always amazing. But most of all..the fallen know how to make an entrance
A trailer that you might wanna check out is Forspoken "Worlds Collide" trailer.
On our request list 🙂
About the blue people you mentioned, it's actually a different race, in the start, you can get to choose one of 3 races and then customize your appearance further after that, There's still obviously humans like Ikora, the blue people aren't undead people, but instead, an entirely different race, called the "Awoken", the robots aren't called robots, but are instead called "Exos", how they came to be is still quite a mystery, this whole customization for your character is entirely cosmetic and doesn't change anything though.
Thanks for clearing that up 🙂
Such a great game, despite all its short-comings and issues at launch. A lot of very good memories were made playing this game almost daily, day in and day out. Even today, I still do the same thing but on Destiny 2. Just not as many friends to play it with.
So few fun facts
1.) The creators of this game destiny and destiny 2 were made by the development team bungie who used to be a part of Microsoft and made the halo series this game was their 1st attempt after separating and was very successful.
2.) The hive is destiny's version of the flood yes
3.) The ghost used to be voiced by peter dinklage and there are videos of his voice as ghost but due to scheduling conflicts with him being in game of thrones at the time he had to drop the roll and nolan north picked up the roll instead he also voices Nathan drake in uncharted series.
4.) Each ghost has a specific partner and they must look for them. Ghost cannot resurrect anyone except their chosen partner. The player/guardian can be resurrected and infiniate amount of time but if the ghost dies they cannot be resurrected and if they die that's it, the term is called final death.
Thanks for giving us those quick fun facts about the game and franchise 😀
I'm just curious, have you two seen "Zavala's trailer"? It would have been a good one to catch early, it explains a lot of the basics.
We had actually not seen that one 😯
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Still worth it, if you're feeling a little lost. Destiny has an incredible story, but I'll fully acknowledge that it is both dense and complicated, not to mention a little difficult to get into since it's not clear where you should begin. I'd love to see your guys reaction to this!
When it comes to enemy factions, they basically have Halo counterparts.
Fallen = Elite-aligned Covenant
Cabal = Brute-aligned Covenant
Hive = Flood
Vex = Sentinels
These aren't exact comparisons, but it's a general way to explain how they feel to people already familiar with Halo.
That helps 🙂
I love your reactions
🥰😊😀🤗 Glad to hear
Great Machine seems like a very on the nose name for the Traveller and accurate 🤗
Still get chipps watching the very first cutscenes of our destiny journey.
Soundtrack is phenomenal
Love you guys are the best
Thanks! 🥰😊🤗
YESSSS MY YEAR HAS BEEN MADE

You guys should check out the darksiders cinematic trailers. Part 2 has more but very awesome to see.
We got some Darksiders coming up 😁
The blue people are a race called The Awoken: The Awoken are a humanoid race sharing common ancestry with Earth humans.
Thanks for going over the different playable races for us 🙂
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames 😁👌🏻
Such a nostalgia feelings, Jeez. Glad that you decided to watch Destiny tho.
☺️🥳🥳
Thanks for giving us some more info on the races as well as the enemies seen 🙂

Also you can be a human awoken the purple and blue human people and a Exo witch is a robot with the consciousness of a once living person who by choice or not was turned into one
Tales of Dunwall would be a great watch for you guys.
For Dishonored right? 🙂
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Indeed, I believe so
The "blue" people are part of a race called the "Awoken", which is a race that was created by an encounter of light, and dark, at least for the first ones, then it was just a simple case of reproduction by natural means :)
Some of them did become awoken by "dying" as in, they lost their humanity, but most awokens we encounter in game are just regular born awoken.

Yeah we heard people can’t play through it if they start 😢
Funny you should mention changing the Ghost's voice...he was originally voiced by Peter Dinklage from Game of Thrones but due to a combination of prior commitments and the community being a little displeased by the performance, they replaced him with Nolan North who you might know from lots of games.
Also the blue skin marks you as a member of the Awoken race, a race of humans who were touched by both Light and Darkness and sort of "evolved" into the blue skinned forms. You also have Exos like Cayde-6 who are human minds in robot bodies and regular Humans like Ikora.
It wasn’t the performance we didn’t like just the fact that it reminded us of the weasly Oracle in Halo 😝
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames to be clear, the one in your video is Nolan North, this was after Dinklebot was replaced.

storytelling? no. putting story into the actual game? yes.

Subbing for destiny !!!!! It’s a confusing story at first but it’s easily my favorite sci -fi universe and I’m barely a gamer
Perfect timing. We have part 5 of our journey, the Dark Below coming out tomorrow 😀
Destiny is one game where you basically play a reanimating zombie and it is not presented as horror.
Hadn’t thought of it that way but you’re right 😂
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames There is a character Awoken Paladin Petra Venj, who served around Guardians for a while now that literally calls Guardians unquestioning Zombies in her personal log or a communique.
Ohhhh I hope you do the entirety of the games. This is bungie at its best. OG Halo are masterpieces of their own. But this game has kept a spark going for 10 years as a predecessor and different game completely to Halo. 👍👍👍
We plan on checking out the full series for this franchise 🙂
