Fabulously educative, to scientifically-inclined persons who are not in medical professions. (I'm a dyed-in-the-wool 66 y.o. engineer with research experience.) I've always been a stickler for documentation; put me in the 99% percentile of the general population on that point. I also happen to know(?) the difference between "ischemic" and "hemorrhagic" strokes; they are opposites. Incidence: 80:20, from what I've heard. Therefore, it's easy to assume that the word "stroke" implies "ischemic," but that ain't necessarily so. I suggest the word "ischemic" be installed in the title of this excellent essay.
I stopped taking statins and blood pressure meds, they made my musles weak and made me feel dazed.Replaced with cutting back on added sugar ,table spoon apple cider in cup of water ,drink it with straw ,every morning and evening, magnesium pil in evening.Spinache or kale banana smoothy ,and avocado kiwi smoothy.Feel great with it ,after only one week.Blood pressure from 140/90 to 125/80. Do Keep taking my blood thinners ,after having 2 stents placed for clogged arteries.Walk a lot ,and do rowing training .
And have you seen any benefit from an arterial point of view. Ie have your arteries cleaned up and are you in less danger now ? When did you stop medications and how long did it take for your body to adjust ? The reason for me asking is I am in your situation. I have gone WFPB diet but have the drug regimen after an MI + stents. My weight has improved drastically in 2 months.
I appreciate your efforts. Like stopping sugar, taking magnesium, walking, exercise, may be one can add omega 3,olive oil,and vegan diet. By this way one can avoid side effects of statin like blood sugar, damage to kidneys but one has to be in disciplined and observe one’s body, changes and reports
Right up to the 1960's and mid 70's , Americans in general were thin. It was a period when people used to regularly consume bacon , eggs , butter , full fat milk , cream and so on. Today , people consume skimmed milk , fat free cheese , fat free this fat free that , margarine and look at the results. A total disaster. An obesity epidemic never seen before. People are given false information , many times by doctors , that say that fat increases cholesterol when the real culprit responsible for most illnesses is SUGAR. Eliminate sugar totally and say bye bye to cholesterol and a whole bunch of other pathologies.
My husband (never suffered strokes, just had high cholesterol), stopped taking statins after about 8 years when he went for a periodic appointment with bloodwork, and they diagnosed him with "non-alcoholic fatty tissue liver disease". That was one of the listed side effects to develop when you have been on them for a while. It even said so in the statin packaging. So, he took himself off the statins and started taking a tablespoon full of ground flax seed in a cup of yogurt every morning. His cholesterol readings have been off the charts outstanding for the last 5 years that he has been doing this. His doctor asked what changed, and he told her he took himself off the statin and started taking the ground flax seed in his yogurt every day. Not only is it good for your cholesterol, but it's also good for your prostate. She said keep doing what you are doing but tried to convince him to stay on the statin. He said he'd rather take something in nature instead of using synthetic meds that will only cause damage with long term use. I guess she is disappointed that she doesn't get a monetary kickback for him filling prescriptions for statins anymore.
I stopped taking statin drugs. They caused such bad pain I couldn't stand for the sheets to touch my body. If anyone touched me it caused so much pain. My feet were so swollen and in such pain I went from a size 8 shoe to a size 91/2. I stopped taking statin drugs. I felt like I was dieing. I don't know how anyone can take this horrible drug. I went to rhumatoligist and he diagnosed me with fybromyalgia and put me on other drugs along with the statin drugs. So when I could no longer afford these statins I stopped them. After a few years I started getting better. I'm pain free and my feet are back to a size 8 shoe and I can wear decent looking shoes and even boots now. I thank God for this because no Dr had anything to do with this miracle.
Dr. Brewer, I'll continue my statin (atorvastatin 40mg) for the same reasons you find in these studies. I very much appreciate your skepticism on these studies. All the pharmaeutical/supplement studies, IMO, have flaws and more physicians should learn to question. Fortunately, my cardiologist and neurologist are open-minded and consider themselves interventionists or 'preventionists'. As a patient I consider my doctors as partners; my health is ultimately my responsibility. My real enemy is confirmation bias; I must watchful when making decisions. Human bodies are just too complicated for human understanding... one complex system on top of another overly complex system. We can only try. Patients truly need educated doctors willing to study constantly. We can't possible know what you know from long years of study and experience. By the way, I'm still operating on the vulnerable plaque theory to some extent. Yet, I believe that any change in arterial plaque takes a very long time, positive or negative. My doctors didn't really focus attention on blood glucose last January because all testing was normal/optimal. However, I remain convinced that excess insulin, and most especially the spikes during the day, created the conditions for my ischemic events. I know what my poor diet had been for previous 12 months and gained 25 lbs. So after the TIA episodes, I detoxed by stopping grains and all processed carbohydrates. If it went through a factory, I don't eat it. Moderate amounts of meat, lots of free range eggs, and loads of green, red, purple, and white plants. Going in for full blood workups soon at the 6 month mark. We'll see what we see. I won't stop statins or apixaban until I can be absolutely certain. And that day may never arrive. Overall good health, optimal gut health, and low BMI offers plenty of other benefits :)
The real issue is or isn’t statins. What about the terrible effects of the Standard American Diet. If you add statins to the SAD, it will likely help. What about stopping statins and changing what we eat, mostly plant based, some meat, nuts and seeds, good hydration, sun exposure, quality sleep and EXERCISE.
Stop the chatter. Every dr visit should end with the recommendation to exercise-. If you cannot run. Walk. If unable to walk ride bike. If unable - do stationary bike. If unable do pool excervise. If unable have dr prescribe passive P T with therapist. But say no to any statin
@@ellenorbjornsdottir1166 that’s why I said MOSTLY plant based. The rest is eggs, meat and fish. Most vegans eat way too many grains. These must be kept a minimum.
+Brain Fradet - EXACTLY regarding the American Heart Assoc., since they agreed to allow a HIGHLY MISLEADING "PRESIDENTIAL ADVISORY" report saying coconut oil or saturated fats are harmful. A report based on studies from the 1970s, that were based on Hydrogenated Coconut oil. 3 of the papers with one conflicting the other,... the "author" having TIES TO BIG GOOD... and YUP the AHA ENDORSED THIS. Hmmm...
Why don't you site the numbers for the people that didn't start taking Statins and never had a stroke. What's the numbers for people that never had a stroke until after they started taking Statins.
I haven’t seen any studies on strokes not caused by vascular disease (I had a large ASD that has been repaired). I had a stroke at age 44 was put on the same bucket as all other stroke patients and have been on statins ever since. I never had heart or vascular disease or high cholesterol. I’m now developing insulin resistance but am terrified to stop statins because of all of these studies that don’t reflect my situation.
Statins do not solve the problem. If you had a stroke, you have one o more circulatory problems like inflammation for exemple, so, if you stop statins but do not corret your current problem off course you get the chance to have another stroke/HA...change completely your lifestile and nutrition and you will not need statins or any drug anymore. I did it a year ago!
Wish you would discuss age limits i will be 87 and tired of being tired ,! After experiencing other side effects ,I just said enough active all my life ,no heart problems when do you stop statins ???
You bring up a good point. In older patients with an impact on quality of life, you have to ask if it is worth it. Here’s another thing. In that situation, I often get good results with Livalo (pitavastatin).
Marnie Martell.... I am 79 years old ... I have 2 stent in my heart in 2010... I take statin for 10 years... Feeling full body weakness... How to stop statin please help me...
I have a number of friends that are research scientists and I enjoy researching health issues. When I find something interesting I get some friends to have a look. The real issue when it comes to research seems more to do with the sources of it and the sponsors of the research and who they are connected to. It can be difficult to find out some of this information. In recent years, many of the numbers for taking drugs have been implemented from research sponsored by drug companies......boosting their profits. One example is diabetes. Once the numbers were dropped from some pretty disputable research, making millions of people instant diabetics needing pills. On the topic of stations, Rory Collins has/is on big pharmas payroll and has been for a while. I'm not saying anyone should take or not take stations but it's just as important to research the researchers....lol. Thank you for your videos. They are great! The only thing I would add is that it would be great to hear more about the people paying for the studies you mention and the possible conflicts to interest. Thank you 🙂
Dear Dr. Brewer, in your example, how the change of plaques composition ( it became softer and less stable/ calcified with the stop in statin intake ) was determined ? With CT Angiogram? What was the time span fur such determination? The studies you quoted count second CV events like stroke, but what about stopping statin for people who never had evens with asymptomatic CVD determined by CT Angiography?
Hi Doc, I don't have a history of stroke but I'm taking statin because my cholesterol is quiet high. After taking statins (Crestor) for 2 months my cholesterol dropped to normal. Is it safe for me to stop statins? Thanks!
I don't usually put people on a statin for blood levels. I focus on whether they have plaque. So if I were to see you as a patient, that's one of the key things I’d want to assess.
This is very interesting but are there any studies that show how diet affects the stability of plaques. A WFPB diet causes a massive change in Nitrous Oxide which is a plaque stabilizer. There have also been studies that show that a WFPB is more effective than statins at lowering LDL cholesterols etc. So if a patient changed to a WFPB diet after the initial use of Statins (because statins may be faster acting than a diet) wouldn't this be a better situation ?
Are all statins listed for the same possible adverse side effects in the PDR? I ask because my retired eye doctor attributed my cataracts to simvastatin and I stopped it for several years but I am now just starting generic Crestor. Ate cataracts a listed side effect? I also had shoulder problems symptoms on simvastatin which required steroid injections. (So much for my Olympics aspirations.)
Here is a problem thats not considered. I had a stroke . It was caused by a blood clot caused by Afib. I take a blood thinner, blood pressure and a beta blocker for Afib now. They put me on statins about 6 months after my stroke. Im a very health overall 52 yr old. Had an angiogram that showed very minimal plaque. Why am I on statins. No test was ever done for clorestreal levels, they randomly put me on them. I dont want to be on them.
My blood sugars were 40 points higher on average when I started taking atorvastatin. I decided Ill take my chances without statins and work on my insulin resistance and fitness. I want to measure my levels over time and be advised by a doctor but not take the prescriptions unless acute conditions occur. My goal is to change diet, fasting and exercise routines and measure results. I have had several bad experiences with long term medications and no longer trust them. Would you take on a patient who wishes to be monitored and advised only without the use of long term meds? And what are your thoughts on such an arrangement? Are you allowed by your licensing board to act in this manner?
Of course. I am an advisor, a consultant. And the patient is the executive; i.e. makes their own decisions. And no matter what you may hear, medical boards all have to respect that. It’s called the right to refuse a treatment recommendation. It’s the law. And docs have patients ignore their advice a lot as well. Find just one doc whose patients follow all their advice. I do understand what you mean, though. Their is a major set of emotions in the medical community about statins and other chronic meds. It seems to parallel popular patient advice against them. I have plenty of patients decline statins as well as other meds. Some opt for lifestyle interventions alone. Others select supplements as well.
Hippy(Bboomer) Thanks for sharing that experience. I have learned that the more I relied on meds, the more meds I had to rely on. I am trying to measure, observe and correct course in a way where I stand out of the way of the body and let its mechanisms repair themselves. Its working. One last med to go.
I wonder if people with low risk could benefit from occasional use of statins... like one week a month, of perhaps every third or fourth day. Sort of like using Draino once in a while because the drain seems to be running slow.
Hi doctor Brewer. How can I see if I have stable or instable plaques ? Emilio Jose Plentz from Brazil - Florianopolis, in the south part of BR. I am a Civil Engineer... so ... details matter ! Like you said in one video. Inflamation panel ? CT or Magnet Resonance scan with contrast ? Thank you very much.
I enjoy your videos and am learning a lot. Some of us don't trust the research, though, because we don't know if it's funded by big pharma either straight out or via the back door. I had side effects with 3 different statins. After quitting the last one, my cholesterol went higher than before taking them so what's up with that? I'm worse off now than when I did nothing. We keep carbs well under 50/day (diabetic husband) and I do IF. My triglycerides have never been over 75 so hopefully that's good news for insulin resistance. I probably have inflammation from all the stress of worrying about high cholesterol. =/
John Lorscheider: Thanks for the research tips. I don't know why my doctor hasn't suggested Niacin. She wants me to try Zetia but I'm trying some other dietary changes first.
Thanks for the information! I don't like the liver enzyme aspect but will talk to my doctor about it and see what she thinks. Not that I can't go out and buy it, but would like to know why she didn't suggest it. I'll remember "nicotine".
We don't eat any sugar. I cook from scratch and we eat very low carb. Exercise has waned this past year. In good weather I use all my free time working outside around the pond, digging, laying blocks, etc.
If I have. Normal cholesterol but ldl is high now I m on simavastatin 20mg on 1 tab night.but my question is how long to continue this tab or can't stop. Please give us valuable feedback. Thanks Thanks
What about statins and a stroke caused by carotid artery dissection? My cholesterol levels were perfect before my accident but I was initially put on Lipitor. It’s been 6 months and my vascular surgeon said I can stop taking it but I’m scared. I’m scared of everything actually after having a stroke by doing yoga. Thanks in advance.
Thank you so much. I am on plavix and 325mg aspirin for the rest of my life. I am 39 years old with no plaque stenosis, excellent pre-injury cholesterol levels and my most recent act angiogram shows good flow despite my dissection. I didn’t need to have surgery. Just scared to stop taking Lipitor but don’t understand why I was put on it anyway other than that it is protocol for stroke patients in the ER.
Thank you so much. This was kind of what I was getting too. That the statin was beneficial at the beginning of an injury like mine but after the initial healing was kind of pointless if cholesterol levels were fine prior too and after. I have another MRI in May and another CTA in September. This has been quite a journey but one I’m truly grateful to be on.
Thank you so much. It’s just scary because I have been healthy and an athlete my entire life. I eat clean and have never had any issues. I had no idea you could tear your carotid artery doing yoga and have a stroke. The fear is lessening but it’s still there.
Great information Doctor Ford. I wanted to know regarding LP(a). Any treatment drugs yet in the market or shall I continue with Turmeric, black pepper, pomegranate, vitamins C and D3 regimen along with Statins and Clopidogrel . Need to lower my LP(a) as its 69 mg/dl. I don't know if its due to Statins 20mg i take for Triglycerides . Triglycerides are high 177 mg/ dl after 4 months of Statins and Blood thinning . Whats the best way to reach you at .email or number as I am researching natural ways to get harmful LDL and LPa off my blood panel .
Good questions. You can email MyHealth@PrevMedHeartRisk.com. Or call 859-721-1414 And, by the way, the clinical trials on the new antisense drugs are looking great! But it’s too early to access the drugs. Until then, niacin is the only answer (besides managing other risk factors). Niacin is actually far better than current US docs are saying. That’s a long story... ua-cam.com/video/knUoCXGHYYs/v-deo.html
The other question is , if there is something else helping stabilizing the plaques. And first of all there is need for accurate diagnosis. I still do not have it.
Dr. Brewer, I enjoy all of your videos and I have a question.I'm 63 and of my numbers such as Lp(a), ApoB, glucose, trigs, total chol and HDL are all well within the normal range but my LDL is a little high at 120. I have some plaque as I have a calcium score of 226. I've tried Lipitor, Crestor, simvastatin and pravastatin and my legs tingle and cramp even at light doses. My Lipidologist recommends that I take a statin to get my LDL under 70. I'm refusing for now, but I do take an 81mg aspirin and I'm recently back on Red Yeast Rice as I don't seem to have any tingling with it. I'll see how that affects my LDL at my next blood work. I've read repeatedly that reducing inflammation is a much better idea than reducing LDL cholesterol. I've just started taking a K2 supplement after reading "Vitamin K2 and the Calcium Paradox" and I was wondering what your thoughts are on taking K2 to remove calcium from arteries and can Bergamot safely be added to my daily intake of K2? Also, since I have some plaque, if the calcium in my arteries is removed, does the plaque remain and is that a bad situation? Thanks,John
I'm not sure why you would want to get LDL below or within 70 or take measurement to lower cholesterol because it's not the cause of stroke or clogged arteries. Lp(a) is normal, so I wouldn't worry about. There is no limits on how much cholesterol our body need.
I don't think we should go that far to believe that LDL that is within or less than 70 are less likely to build up on the arteries and cause plaque. It can still happen to people regardless of their cholesterol numbers, even if they were taking Statin. And yes, you are correct that insulin resistance is one cause of oxidized LDLs and can result in inflammation of the arteries. Also, Lpa(a) and homocysteine is an important factor as well when it comes to heart health.
@John Lorscheider Hi John, from 11 months ago, do you still not not Vit. K2 mk-2?? Even after the newly pub. studies: EPIC, COMBS?? Outside of CVD, K2 is vital or an essential nutrient we no longer get from diet, unless seek out GrassFed everything.
@@vazghoul I am happy for you! Bergamot extract can help reduce high cholesterol (there are human studies about it). One study showed that cholesterol dropped significantly among patients who took 1,000 mg of bergamot daily for one month. Also red rice yeast and fish oil suplements help. 🤗
Is it safe after an azotemic stroke caused by new prescription and treated as isotemic...??? 10 years 150$ a month,to be replaced by 650$ a month cell moderator...BP.. Will not help in arteriogenesis as repair...
Dr Brewer: Stop with the charts. They are unreadable due to A. Your moving them around too much while speaking. B. Print shows up too small and often poorly focused on video to be read and understood. C. The pages contain lots of detailed data which which are removed from view too quickly to be read and comprehended.

(HUG) Years ago had a stroke, for 6 months I studied on my own - when I couldn't take statins - My muscles were getting so weak, my feet felt like rubber, very scary. I had to work, so I became my own advocate. Most of the clinical trials I became uncomfortable with, I had a hard time believing what they said, felt the pharmaceutical industry was cooking the books for their profit. I looked at mortality rates, those who took vs those who didn't, Dr. put so much fear in me (if you don't take statins bla, bla, bla,) I asked God for Wisdom, and learned to trust only in Jesus, and stopped being consumed with fear over my mortality. With His Spirits help - I continued to Study for myself to this day, It's been 14 yrs, no statins, studied Linus Pauling and others then, still studying now., found alternatives to drugs, found half-life of drugs, studied everything I could. Our bodies were made perfectly by God, every wound on His back is for "our" healing. We must learn to eat properly, walk away from stress, gossip, fear, stressful people, walk, walk, walk, thank God for every day that we are alive. Get rid of the curse - how? trust Jesus, Jesus took our place on the cross, ask Him to help us. He redeemed us/set us free at the cross He took the horrible punishment that we deserved for our disobedience to God. He set us free. TRUST JESUS! Jeremiah 17:5 New Century Version Trusting in Humans or God 5 This is what the Lord says: “A curse is placed on those who trust other people, who depend on humans for strength, who have stopped trusting the Lord. Galatians 3:13 New Century Version 13 Christ took away the curse the law put on us. He changed places with us and put himself under that curse. It is written in the Scriptures, “Anyone whose body is displayed on a tree[a] is cursed.”
I had a stroke due to a blood clot caused by atrial fibrillation. Surely this is different, in treatment terms, from a stroke caused by plaque instability? Is statin intervention necessary in my case?
Thank you for your reply. My cholesterol is 6.7 nmol per litre (units used in the U.K.) and my GP wants me to resume Atorvastatin medication which I discontinued some time ago.

Hi, just wondering what you believe what be the best beta blocker to use in regards to insulin resistance? Carvedilol is not an option to me as of its alpha blocking effects and an already low diastolic pressure Thanks
+Jay Williams Metoprolol is worse. Why do you have to have a beta blocker? ACE inhibitors are usually far better, especially with insulin resistance. Did you have an event already?
No never had a cardiac event, however the beta blocker is for mild Tachycardia, also on an ACE inhibitor lisinopril.Blood pressure well controlled however i have noticed since starting niacin and metoprolol that fasting glucose levels have been rising and i would like to control this.
+Jay Williams Got it. A couple of points. Niacin’s impact on blood glucose usually lasts less than 6 months. Ramipril helps a little better than Lisinopril. Age and bmi are major determinants of blood glucose. It sounds like you know a lot about this area. I’d have a lot of questions about your glucose metabolism, like: what are your specific ogtt levels are, what you know about metformin, your age, your bmi, and family hx. For starters.
Well I still didn't cover enough territory your body needs cholesterol it's good it's serves a few purposes is it the cholesterol that causes the platelet aggregation in that case it would seem to make sense to disconnect to continue your Statin therapy
@John Lorscheider thank you. Very useful information. I have had stents put in & ceased statins after about 3 months. These statistics suggest 94.4% of people who cease statins after stents are not at risk & also have no side effects from statins. If the difference between the 2 groups is only 3%, surely other health measures could offset the absence of statins.
@John Lorscheider that's 54% improvement is RELATIVE not ACTUAL improvement. Based upon the size of the study it could potentially be less than 1% more effective on the number of people it has helped.
The population was up to 80 years of age in the study. It states that there was an adjustment in the covariables, but you also have to account for lifestyle, polypharmacy, compliance, etc. My concern is the statement of 54% more effective is misleading the readers as it is a relative percentage of improvement. If it stated that 7 people lived longer, it would bear more weight and honesty. When an average reader is going through this they're thinking "4,000 people were studied, 50% less chance of dying. Okay 1,000 people didn't take it and died. I'm taking it, so I probably won't die " in actual numbers less than 40 people died, which could be influenced just by variability or knowing you're being studied so you eat healthier, exercise, etc.
I did, too. Two stents after the widow maker. After eight weeks on the cardiac cocktail, I dumped the statins. I'm also learning a lot...particularly about what's REALLY responsible for my heart disease, and that is sugar and high fructose corn syrup, which is in everything. Do that research and your eyes will really be opened. Thanks.
Look up the research about low cholesterol and heart attacks as the research I found showed most people who had a heart attack had low cholesterol not high. Cholesterol is not the culprit it is SUGAR.
Our Cholesterol is "Sticky" and that is the problem! every cell in the body requires it's own precise amount of cholesterol in order to function efficiently. every nerve in the body is protected by a Myelin sheath which is composed of 50% Cholesterol Lipids! it has been proven in many class action court cases that statin drugs damage muscles, nerves, causes muscle weakness and cramping, and contributes to kidney damage, and influences diabetes and may destroy your quality of life, IN MY OPINION! a victim
Dr. - How many practicing Dr.s able to prescribe Statins would recommend their Pt. to stop taking Statins? ZERO (0), in the USA - We have too many Lawyers and you would be Sued for Practicing Medicine outside the Standard of Care! If somebody stops taking their Statins they made the decision to Stop! Dr's would never ever say stop taking Statins - Period! Thanks Anyway!
Yes. But the scientific evidence indicates it's very risky. As much as we all love to hate on statins, the scientific evidence is clear. They decrease heart attack risk. Since they decrease risk, the major problem is stopping statins - and remaining off of them. Stopping for a short period is not as dangerous. ua-cam.com/video/prQkwf6uCvQ/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/hnqOTNCLmnI/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/SO1X725DZBo/v-deo.html

A vegan diet made Dr Brewer prediabetic.
One thing that seems to not be said is who is funding the various journels-JAHA, Circulation, etc that recommend stating? Follow the money?
+Brain Fradet - EXACTLY regarding the American Heart Assoc., since they agreed to allow a HIGHLY MISLEADING "PRESIDENTIAL ADVISORY" report saying coconut oil or saturated fats are harmful. A report based on studies from the 1970s, that were based on Hydrogenated Coconut oil. 3 of the papers with one conflicting the other,... the "author" having TIES TO BIG GOOD... and YUP the AHA ENDORSED THIS. Hmmm...
I got off statin atorvastatin. My bones ached too much for me to continue. I took nattokinase instead and i feel so much better.
Isn't something missing on your chart? It shows 50-100 deaths in the No-Statin column but what about the Statin column? It's blank.
That's a good question. These were incremental deaths.
I teach students that when you write a paper or give a talk: no whodunnits. It is not clear whether this guy is for stopping statins or not.

My LDL came down when I lost weight.
Thanks for sharing. Yes, it’s frustrating & important

Thank you 🙂
I appreciate the objectiveness of your video.
Thanks. Objectivity is a major goal of ours.
Thank you for the video. I learn from you when ever I have free time :)
It seems that it depends on whether they are stable plagues or not, right?
Hi Doc, I don't have a history of stroke but I'm taking statin because my cholesterol is quiet high. After taking statins (Crestor) for 2 months my cholesterol dropped to normal. Is it safe for me to stop statins? Thanks!
I don't usually put people on a statin for blood levels. I focus on whether they have plaque. So if I were to see you as a patient, that's one of the key things I’d want to assess.
Drops your cholesterol but doses nothing for your health
What if you had a stroke and cholesteral was not an issue, why do they still want you to take it
Did the doc forget to rehearse?
Curious, when your friend stop statin and there were plaque, did he eat high carb?
Could the carb be the culprit, not the cholesterol itself?
Thanks. It’s a good question. But no, he was very disciplined with his carbs.
Ooh, thanks.
Sugar is the problem
This is very interesting but are there any studies that show how diet affects the stability of plaques. A WFPB diet causes a massive change in Nitrous Oxide which is a plaque stabilizer. There have also been studies that show that a WFPB is more effective than statins at lowering LDL cholesterols etc. So if a patient changed to a WFPB diet after the initial use of Statins (because statins may be faster acting than a diet) wouldn't this be a better situation ?
I reduced my statin. Because my muscle and my hair and flog my brain too
Sorry to hear that. I hope it helped.
Stop taking them.
How much money do big pharma give to the American Heart Association?
Thanks. That’s a good question. I don’t know. But I bet they do.
Thanks! And yes we do!

I wonder if people with low risk could benefit from occasional use of statins... like one week a month, of perhaps every third or fourth day. Sort of like using Draino once in a while because the drain seems to be running slow.

Do diabetic should take statin? Which is the best statin for diabetics?
DR BREWER I quit taking my simvastatin after 20 years. Is liver going to produce more bile? And is good?
Stopping statins has shown significant risk. It's very dependent on why you started taking them in the first place.
@@PrevMedHealth Would you say it's safe in primary prevention or in cases of intolerable side effects like exercise intolerance?
I enjoy your videos and am learning a lot. Some of us don't trust the research, though, because we don't know if it's funded by big pharma either straight out or via the back door. I had side effects with 3 different statins. After quitting the last one, my cholesterol went higher than before taking them so what's up with that? I'm worse off now than when I did nothing. We keep carbs well under 50/day (diabetic husband) and I do IF. My triglycerides have never been over 75 so hopefully that's good news for insulin resistance. I probably have inflammation from all the stress of worrying about high cholesterol. =/

Rebecca Leigh - I'd love to hear your thoughts on eating clean. I would strive to read the book.
Hi Rebecca-I'd love to know what yoga posture you did to cause a stroke-since my wife and I do lots of yoga. Thanks in advance! Brian

The other question is , if there is something else helping stabilizing the plaques. And first of all there is need for accurate diagnosis. I still do not have it.
Adequate vitamin C intake is supposed to help with vascular integrity and help the endothelium heal up. Also nicotinic acid (Vitamin B3) helps too.

Hi, just wondering what you believe what be the best beta blocker to use in regards to insulin resistance? Carvedilol is not an option to me as of its alpha blocking effects and an already low diastolic pressure
Thanks

Yes it is safe.
Stopping Statins, post two stents put in. Can it be done safely?

Can statins usage be stopped right away
Yes. But the scientific evidence indicates it's very risky. As much as we all love to hate on statins, the scientific evidence is clear. They decrease heart attack risk. Since they decrease risk, the major problem is stopping statins - and remaining off of them. Stopping for a short period is not as dangerous.
