    Bravo, endlich eine Interpretation der "Dorischen", die auch Joh. Seb. Bach Freude bereitet hätte. Seit Helmut Walcha das Beste, das ich zu hören bekam. Tempo ohne Hast, durchsichtige Registrierung und eine Pedalstimme, die nicht alles andere "zuknallt". Vielen Dank, Herr Schnetzler!

    Bravo, sir!! Your slower tempo allowed inner voices of Bach's genius music to be savoured in full - voices not always appreciated in the more usual hasty interpretations. Much appreciated.

    • @johnswimcat
      @johnswimcat 7 років тому +1

      Yes, for me the tempo is good. I think I still have an old record of Albert Schweitzer playing this amazing piece and of course he plays it much more slowly than most of the modern interpretations. Anyway I love the way Schnetzler plays this and I can only wonder at the power of the mind that created this and so many other works

    I keep coming back to this, year after year after year. I don't know what Bach intended but for me this is just right. When someone plays it faster much of the beauty and magnificence is lost. Why hurry? It's four hundred years or so since it was written, what's the rush?

      The 'Dorian' fugue is on the same level as the Art of Fugue in terms of its flawless construction and intense dramatic trajectory.

    Food for the soul, this amazing work. Thank goodness Schnetzler doesn't play it too fast like almost everyone else. Even my cat Louis likes listening to this. I have an old record of Schweitzer playing this, now that is special

    Excellent interpretation, form dominates over space and time, without unnecessary changes in tempo, or haste, that emphasizes the beauty of the work .....

    Perínclita interpretación, la forma reina sobre espacio y el tiempo, sin variaciones innecesarias de tempo, o apresuramientos que desluzcan la belleza de la obra. Bravo!

    It seems like a big effort to be able to play a piece like this so I say very well done sir. This is a little slower than I am used to hearing it but I let it play at that speed and very much enjoyed it. Thank you. One recommendation I would make is when changing manuals (like at 0:55 elapsed for example), pause slighly to help the listener more easily identify a "transition".

    Took the toccata at the right tempo...for my liking, of course. Enjoyed watching the pedal work. I would have liked to seen a few more stops open for the climax of the fugue, again just in context with my liking. All in all, a nice performance of one of my absolute favorite organ pieces. Thanks for posting and God bless.

    Good tempo, I agree. The fuga is huge, one of the greatest from Bach. The choice of the stops is here interesting, in Germany mixtures are too often systematically used like sometimes for the Praeludium or the Toccata AND the following Fuga with the same registration, what can be boring. I am a bit surprised seeing that the main keyboard is the lowest one, like on the french organs. Jacques, from France.

  • @fossosejore

    Bellissima la toccata. Per la fuga avrei preferito un maggior "legato" e at 14:02 si deve passare su organo pleno!

  • @TheApostleofRock
    @TheApostleofRock 7 років тому

    Call me a unsophisticated, but as I learned this piece from a faster recording, that is what I've come to prefer. However, tempo is a small thing. For me, I feel that the voices in the toccata, specifically of the pedals, is not as bold and rich as I would hope. However, the fugue is superbly done.

    Sehr sauber gespielt, nur halt im Schneckentempo und bei 1:56 gehört unbedingt weiter getrillert und die unteren sechzehntel gehören nur mit der linken hat gespielt!

    • @ulrichsteiger757
      @ulrichsteiger757 2 роки тому

      „Schneckentempo“ würde ich nicht sagen - in diesem ruhigen Tempo kann auch der Laie alles genau mithören und wegen der Ausführung des Trillers bei 1:56 mag man geteilter Meinung sein…

    Wonderful performance! Well done video with pedal inset!
    Disappointed that the trill ( 01:55 ) is not continued thentire note.
    Why no trill in the pedal fugue subject?

    • @ZL54JK8
      @ZL54JK8 4 роки тому

      Surely it can't be a wonderful performance if you didn't get your trills? The manual trill you refer to is not practicable unless one has enormous hands. Possibly you will tell us that you can execute it and your hands are quite small?

    • @robertgift
      @robertgift 4 роки тому

      @@ZL54JK8 I play the trill thentire measure. Yes, it is more difficulto accomplish, but wortheffort. I also play the pedal trills. Disappointing if these thrilling trills are abridged or omitted.

    • @ZL54JK8
      @ZL54JK8 4 роки тому

      @@robertgift Nonsense! It has nothing to do with effort, it is anatomically impossible to play that manual trill (and particularly to play it well) unless you have large hands. "Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?" Still, there's no doubt at all that you are jolly clever. Why don't you post a video of yourself and let us see how BWV 538 really should be played. I for one won't be watching this Wilfried Schnetzler again!

    • @robertgift
      @robertgift 4 роки тому +1

      @@ZL54JK8 My hands are not large for a male. Just requires some practice. Pedal trills also require some practice. They are wortheffort. Years ago I met Marie Claire Allain. She hasmalhands. Doeshe do the trill thentire measure as Bach intended?
