I think this has to be one of the best versions of BWV 564 I've ever heard. You have the tempo just right. The registration is perfect. And, for once, somebody has finally decided not to put an extreme excess of trills in the Adagio (and I'm looking at Ton Koopman when I say that). I must say, Herr Schnetzler has done an absolutely splendid job playing this piece by Bach.
Almost everytime I hear Ton "Kan't konnect notes" Koopman, I must listen to Helmut Walcha as an antidote or play the work myself.
I thought I was the only one! Kan't Konnect drives me Krazy. What Bach must be thinking I kannot imagine.

@@richardhoward7075 It is often difficulto connect notes. When I learn an organ work, first I "finger it out" (assign fingers to the notes on the page) so that I have fingers in position to continue musicalines unbroken. Same with pedals: o = heal, I =toe
Ton "Kan't, konnect, notes" Koopman seems, to not, bother. With, Koopman there, often, is, no, discernible, phrasing breathing, articulation, because so, many, notes, do, not, connect.
But Ton also plays with spirit and his toccatas arexciting! (Someday I should record a parody on Ton where I make an ornament of *every* note!)

There's no doubt for me, this man is a superb organist. He plays this and the Dorian at just the right tempo and with real feeling and I have been searching the internet for recordings of W S playing Bach to buy but without success so far... I wait in hope...

I couldn't agree more about the ornamentation in the Adagio, doesn't need any more! Personally I would take it a bit slower, but who knows how Wilfired was feeling this day, it's all OK. He's obviously a superior organist.

Hallo,Herr Schnetzler,Vielen Dank,erstmal für Ihre Aussage Kräftige Antwort,hinsichtlich meiner gestellten Frage.Bach,ist immer eine Herrausforderung,da da haben Sie Vollkommen Recht.Die grossen Werke von Bach,sind da,was das Üben angeht,auch oft sehr seht Mühselig was das einstudieren betrifft..Und dennoch,am Ende bekommt man da den GROSSEN LOHN,für sich selbst,wenn man es dann da spielen vermag..Im Übrigen,bin ich da ein Bewunderer,Ihrer Spielkunst..hab mir da bis jetzt jedes Ihrer Videos,angesehen,und angehört..machen Sie da weiter so..Mit den Besten Wünschen..M.Wunnenberg

Is this a wonderful performance? If we only talking about taste, they all will find some supporters. In my opinion, it is the musicians responsibility to restore old music. Toccata: The melody line in the beginning fits our fingers perfectly(no need for fingercross), that indicate fast tempo. I believe Bach wrote this only to impress people, an another indicator of fast tempo. Maria-Magdalena Kaczor really understand how to finish the fugue.
Very well done! I would compare this recording favorably vs. any other, even if played by Marie Claire Alain, which is saying a lot.

+Marco Wunnenberg - Hallo Marco Wunnenberg, vielen Dank für Ihre Frage. Das lässt sich nicht mit einer Zahl beantworten..., zu unterschiedlich sind die Herangehensweisen an ein grosses Orgelwerk und auch die Lernfortschritte. Ein erster grosser Bach steht wie ein Berg da, den man schrittweise erklimmen kann - mit der Zeit gibt es ein gewisses Training, so dass man sich die Stücke rascher aneignet. Aber jedenfalls ist jedes grosse Orgelwerk eine Herausforderung und etwas, das man nicht in einigen Tagen erlernt (wenigstens ich selbst nicht).

This too is great. Prefer the pedal voices in this recording. Careful not to rob each note of distinction. This is a great sounding Metzler.
Technically well played.More contrasting registrations to bring out the concerto style of the first movement would give the listener's ear a rest. The page turner could help with changes as there are no pistons or toe studs.There are 4 manuals;why not use at least 2 in the Toccata and fugue?
