will sure set up a studio like this as soon as I finish my education, i will never forget u jake, you have been my true saltwater inspiration, would love to visit your studio as soon possible!
Jake, thank you for all that you bring to this amazing hobby! I have learned so much from watching your videos. Thank you for taking the time to create them.
Wow NICE, been watching this one from the beginning. Incredible space, I love that you have a pop of freshwater and some nice tropical plants around. Reminds me of home.
Live live in Florida and we are kind of blessed with good fish stores not only salt but also fresh fish stores. These videos really make me want to get a salt tank for sure. Need to get a rodi water system first so I can stop going to the water store.
Now that you did one big update on everything it really put it into perspective how far the studio has come. I remember the first time you showed the studio empty and how excited you were about its potential. Now to see it really going is very nice. Keep it up.
Great update! 💯 Jake if you need to you can put the red mangroves in freshwater. My red mangroves grew 3x faster in freshwater because I could treat the water with hydroponic chemicals. I ran a 6 bulb T5 over that tank with 4 midday lamps, 1 tropic, 1 flora. They were growing like weeds! I couldn’t fertilize them in my sump and they were struggling. They love a ton of light.
The studio is turning out really well keep up the good work can't wait for the fish only tank to be up and running since there's not many quality fish only videos out there
I have a 300 gallon reef ready fish tank with fish only and man-made corals with live rock unfortunately don't really have the time for real Coral but I love your videos
Jake my man! Love the channel, been following you since the beginning. I always watch from my smart tv so never comment before! With all the plant going on in there, love them btw, you really need to do something with some mangrove plants! Would be really awesome! Square tank with the overflow in the middle of the tank, some sand in the overflow and grow them mangroves! Can't share image here unfortunately🤓 keep up the great work man! Greetings from Holland!
Great video Jake, I can't wait to see the selection of corals you come back with in November. Especially looking forward to the montipora tank, noticed the pines 👍
Looking great buddy! Keep up the good work! My son and I would love to see it in person sometime ,if we get to Colorado! We are just in Lincoln Nebraska! Not far away!
Your Studio looks awesome. Nice place to spent a lot of time with fun 👌. How that tidal filter works on a tank with corals ? I wanna start a project and looking for a hang on with a good working surface skimmer. Greetings Pat
Jake! Great stuff. I'd love a brief video on stands... there's a lot of uncertainty out there with some stands and warping over time. How do the new AIO stands chalk up? Companies where I can order extruded aluminum from? Pros and cons vs. DIY 2'' x 4'''s, etc. Many thanks!
Lets see your blue anacropora, weeping willow, and awesome elegance corals! Also, it would be cool if you went more in depth on certain fish species behavior, diet, compatibility, hardiness, and recommendations for cool corals and fish for reefers on a budget. The snorkeling and diving videos are the coolest. You could also check back in with Sanjay and Mike to do an depth extended nerd revisit and do a revisit with Jason Fox. You could also talk about the coral ban and what the future of the hobby looks like. Thanks Jake!!!
Amazing! I have a couple of questions. How are you planning on running the fish only system-the water-box tank? also, what do you does for the 3 innovative marine tanks looped system? Keep up the good work!
That’s a lot of tanks and equipment to maintain without a team of dedicated employees. Wish you the best but concerned about longevity. Studio looks great right now. Keep it going
I hear you there but I have experience multi-reef-tanking, it's been a year and the tanks look better than they've ever been, they're getting easier as I"m learning they're peculiarities
Hi Jake quick question who makes the custom mesh lids for your tank and where could I order one? Been following from the beginning and I have got to say it’s all amazing.
Just had to flex on us with that awesome electric desk didnt ya? lol too cool. Will try and make it to WWC, unfortunately that's our inventory week at work. lucky for me its right up the street! See ya then, keep it up!
Another great video. Thank you for the inspiration. I have a huge problem trying to find your weeping willow coral. Can you please tell me where I can get it from. The kind with the long polyps that yours has. Thank you.
@@ReefBuildersVideo Is there a method of begging that will work here? After all you inspired me to take up this hobby otherwise I was afraid of it for over 40 years. Now besides the fact that it is a beautiful piece I would love to own something that is part of your story, the guy who inspired me (thank you for that).
I would like to see you talk about your methodology on how to deliver flow based on coral type and tank shape. Not so much a focus on gph but more on powerhead placement.
Wow Jake congrats on the progress you've made since that first coral flat!🤔 I noticed your mollies are in the fish hotel and I love the fresh water tank, can't wait for the monster planted💚 I have a question you said one of the coral flats gets the corals just as is? That means possibly with critters stowed away in them before you clean them up! Ok question is Won t those critters travel from one tank to the next🤔? Cause theyr e all connected if I understand the way it's built correctly?? Sorry if it's a silly question!🙄😁💜💜💜🌿🍃
No that's a fair question - the 'lagoon coral flat' is connected to the three display reefs but the other two are both independent. Think of that middle one as coral receiving/quarantine/conditioning.
Looking great Jake! You’re def a pro, but what I’d like to see in a spotlight video next is some of the failures you might’ve experienced along the way. Have you lost any favorite coral colonies? Any emergencies you’ve dealt with? I still lose corals from time to time, curious with your massive stock if you do as well and how you spot/remedy when it’s happening. Also do you use a par meter for all coral placement, or just gut knowledge at this point?
Yes I am collecting a list of easy places to make mistakes, of course including the ones I've made. The lighting intensity is very much gut feeling by now, I can spitball PAR pretty good after 20 years, but I do have a good PAR meter to check different points in a light cycle
Lol you made me get some mollies to put in my saltwater lagoon pond. Its just a 60g with a pair of clowns so I thought I’d put some cheap 40 cent high fin mollies in there.
looking great! i'd like to hear more about the cooler water tank you have planned for the blue spotted jaws and catalina gobies. cold water tanks are always so intriguing since it's so foreign. and what's the plan for the tinkeri butterflies? put them in the montipora tank?! do you have plans on getting anymore of the semi reef safe butterflies or angels?
Hello Jake. Are all of your frags tanks barebotton ? Is the substrate located in another dedicated tank ? And where are the live rocks in your system ?
Loving the content Jake! It's probably already been said on previous occasions but what is the main reason for the studio. And will you be selling frags at some stage from the studio?
Would love to hear your opinions on all of the different lights as I set up a new tank. If you are ever getting rid of old ones I'm close to Golden. Dig the autonomous desk, I have one in my home office.
I've been watching this channel for the last 2 years and I'm still confused. What is reef builders? Your website isn't a store, but this warehouse has corals like a store. Is it just a private collection of yours that you showcase? Literally a mega reef fan able to do corals the way he wants in his own "basement"?
I'd love to hear more about clams. don't see much about them online. I have been trying to setup a clam specific tank this last year but seems clams these days are not as hardy. I used to be able to keep clams for over 8 years but my latest oldest clams are only 2 years old and the last batch from Indo before they closed down. Many don't seem to last.
All I want to know is if you were going to start your own reef tank which aquarium and lighting combo you would use? I know you’re friends with some of the companies you use in your store so if you have to send me a message privately, I promise I won’t post it anywhere except reef2reef forums.
Without dipping your corals, how can you justify/tell that they are pest/disease free? Is there a certain time frame you give yourself that is the preverbal “it’s clean now” date/time? Thanks.
Some corals have known common pests, others almost never carry anything, they get dipped and inspected several times over before they go into any permanent displays.
@@ReefBuildersVideo Thanks for the tip on Razor, I used it after reading this and its completely wiped out the hair algae I had and also took care of the bubble algae.

So many questions/comments I want to bug you with, I think I'll do multiple comments. First what's the humidity like in your studio? Does the Colorado air just suck the humidity out of that room? Also do you heat individual tanks or do like many LFSs and just keep the whole place warmed to 77°? Also do you have minions that do the busy work on the tanks, because if you don't I want to know what you're taking that gives you the energy to maintain all those tanks and allows you to go all over doing shows, etc etc.? :D
Humidity gets up to 80% but 20 minutes with the doors open and it's down to 35%. Tanks are individually heated, minions do the 'busy work' about half the time but it's important to stay in tune with the tanks, and the best way to do that is to clean the skimmers, test the water, and scrub the glass myself.
The studio has come a long way. Congratulations! I appreciate all the work that has gone into it.

If you get one small enough you could squeeze a couple years in a 30 gallon but not much more than that, it WILL outgrow it.
