Last visit to the Reef Builders Studio

- Опубліковано 12 тра 2024
- I wanted to share some footage of the reef builders studio from my first visit several months ago, when it was arguably at its peak. I saw the studio again during Reefstock 2023. Things at the studio now are in a state of transition. Many of the corals were re-homed, and several of the show tanks likely will be taken down. It occurred to me at that the footage I shot from my first visit might have been the aesthetic peak of this studio. Jake scrubbed the tanks relentlessly in anticipation of my visit because he knew my camera would pick up every little detail and wanted everything to be PERFECT. The tanks indeed looked incredible. I want to share these visuals for the people who love Jake Adams and love Reef Builders.

I was initially reluctant to make this studio tour of Reef Builders. After talking with Jake's wife Windsor and his brother Luc, we agreed it would be nice to show this footage from my visit last year before Jake's passing. If you loved Jake Adams and love Reef Builders, I hope you enjoy.
Thank you for making this and thank you for asking his family. He will truly be missed but has left an eternal positive impact on the reefing community. I hope that the amazing new team running Reef Builders Studio can continue doing work that Jake Adams would be proud of.
Well done, I miss Jake...
This was much needed. I'm sorry to hear so much change is taking place. It's nice to have these gems preserved 🙂
Thank you for making this
Thanks so much! You done amazing capturing his loved work
There will never be another Jake adams. He was my favorite reefer on UA-cam
The loss of Jake Adams to the hobby for me, who didn't know him personally - has been enormous and I find myself searching UA-cam for his replacement and I cannot find it. The inspiration he provided was second to none on UA-cam. May his soul rest in peace. Thank you for posting this video, your camera work is amazing and is a tribute to a giant in aquarium keeping.
I agree with you completely and I am experiencing the same thing! He is not replaceable. Thank you for your post, I am sure many more feel the same way
Truly one of a kind. Still heartbreaking
@@SeancGilchrist I haven't gotten over it.
He's the reason I got into the hobby, I still listen to his and marks podcast everyday while driving too and from work
There will never be anyone to ever come close to replacing Jake in our hobby. Ever…
This really knocked my socks off Than!! The macro shots are exactly what I crave!! ..they say men don't see colors the way women do. 🔬
Color blindness is a thing for sure.
@@tidalgardens Colour (color) blindness (colour vision deficiency, or CVD) affects approximately 1 in 12 men (8%) and 1 in 200 women.
You've provided me with so much inspiration Than! Just want to thanks again!! KEEP DOING WHAT YOU DO BRO!! #AmzingNess #ReefThoughts
#Inspired #CoralCalm
Jake was one of those guy you'd found on youtube since your first day and through out your journey of reefing.
This video is gorgeous!! I have to imagine that jake’s child will appreciate being able to watch this one day too.💚
I think so too!
I thought about this aspect too. Documenting the very legacy Jake Built... For everyone to enjoy forever, most of all his family and unborn son.
Great to see this Than, filmed in your style is the perfect tribute 😊
Phenomenal job!!! This was a real masterpiece. I agree you have captured the pinnacle of the RB studio.
We all miss Jake. Never had I been more saddened by a loss of someone I have never met
Thank you, Than! RIP Jake❤️
Your visit was definitely meant to be.
RIP Jake, thank you for everything.
#MuchRespect to you for family’s blessing. This video will be a living memorial of his life’s work. 🫡
Oh for sure. I was very comfortable with the idea of not making this video ever and I wanted to make sure his family was on board.
Thanks and let the spirit live on
The importance of this video cannot be overstated, or is it understated? I don't know, but it is an important video. It's like a modern 2023 version of what the ancient peoples of the world did to honor good kings who built the cities and culture - by immortalizing them in works of art and on stone tablets. You hit the nail on the head to say that this video is the last of the best of the studio under Jake's hand. thank you.
Thank you. It is nice to be able to look back at these things and remember.
Than, this is simply awesome and thank you for doing this! Jake would’ve been honored that you brought this to the community. Thank you a million times!
Awesome video. Thank you 🙏
Jake would've loved it 👊🏻
What a beautiful tribute to the memory of Jake’s aquatic creations! Thanks for doing this 🙏
The first few minutes make me cry
Thanks for making this video. Jake would be happy. Very nice presentation.
Excellent work and a great way to honor Jake.
Thank you than. Beautiful video you made. You and Jake are my reefing hero.
Thank you for releasing this! My good friend and old employer has taken over the studios maintenance, and is working hard to revitalize the systems back to their former glory when Jake was around. The studio definitely needs some TLC, but it is getting it, don’t worry!
Thank you for this reply.
That is good to hear. Thank you!
Thank you for showing this video.
We miss you Jake ❤
We all leave indelible marks on the systems we create. Even if you have similar equipment and livestock, the specific combination of those two factors make the system look different to the viewer. This phenomena creates the reefer's "style" that the systems exude to the viewer. Thank you for capturing Jake's style for us all and his family to see. I am saving this to a list of favorite reefbuilders videos so I can continue to take inspiration from Jake. Thank you Than.
Awesome Video
Thank you for sharing
Really miss you, Jake😢
Thank you for the coverage!
Hey Than my newest job title (I have a few) is Reefbuilders studio curator! I’ve been in there busting my ass!! It’s looking amazing and things are back on track for the future! I will be spending hours every week maintaining it. I met you at reef stock and shook your hand my name is Jack Murray! I’ve been watching every Reefbuilders video over and over again as I am a long time follower!!
My plan is to maintain what he had and I want finish what he started!!
that is great to hear Jack, it is a ton of work
Thank you for putting this up
Thank you so much Than. This provides closure for sure. Like Jake, he is going out in beauty. Of course the camera work is legendary dude! You were the other half of this amazing tank show off. You managed to capture the beauty of his hard work…he would be proud
Very tasteful video in honor of Jake, now am just wondering if the studio is closing down now that Jake is no longer with us.
Sad I never got to meet him in person. But I feel like I have in many ways watching all of his videos throughout the years.
That was great...
I'm new to reef keeping and this is the most beautiful video I've ever seen. I've been researching and gathering information for a long time before setting up my first reef tank abd have seen a few of Jake's videos but this was the best. Thank youu for sharing and may Jake rest in peace
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
I think the entire hobby with miss this studio.
It was certainly Jake's and Reef Builders. But it was also such a phenomenal vehicle for testing, education, and just nerding out over topics which unite this hobby.
There are few spaces dedicated as studios; not for used in aquaculture with the aims of profitability, but simply as a marine display studio aimed at reaching the pinnacles of this genera in it's pure hobby form.
Like many, I never had the privilege to meet Jake. Nonetheless, his grounded if unorthodox advice was always welcome. And I will forever adore both his coral flats and his collection of deep water Acropora. Nice tribute and beautiful videography
Thank you for this!!
No problem 😊
You hit it out of the ball park with this one, my friend. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
🙏 RIP Jake Adams 🙏
Than, you made a great tribute video showing us all of Jake's legacy tanks.
Well done with class, sir! We are lucky to still have you and your content in this great hobby.
This was a great tribute to Jake Adams! What an amazing tour and look at all the beautiful aquariums. They are pristine. Absolutely stunning and perfect. I’m glad you took this footage so we can enjoy it over and over again. He was a master of his craft and it showed. I’m glad it will live on with his family. So sad that he is no longer with us. Thanks for sharing. Your aquariums and showroom are beautiful and pristine as well!
Thank You so much for showing this. It is all so over the top Beautiful!! Blessings to his family and friends.... 😓 🕯️🌹 🙏🏻
Than, thank you for the additional footage and commentary from Jake's studio. Not unlike yourself, he was considered by many, an Ambassador for the Reef Aquarium Community. We could really feel the enthusiasm and excitement behind each of his uploads; tank maintenance days have definitely felt different since his passing, as I would play ReefBuilders recent uploads during my water change routine. My deepest condolences for the Adams' Family.
You are purely amazing! The shots are stellar!! That one yellow tang is majestic!
Thank you to all involved for sharing Jakes gallery. It was an awesome gallery and will be nice to revisit!
Brilliant videos, as always. 😊👍
Thank you
I concur... I would take everything in the Aussie tank too. Glad you were able to document the studio at its peak. If you don't it's as if it never existed, such as history.
Thank you, Than.
WHAT WE DO FOR OURSELVES ALONE DIES WITH US, WHAT WE DO FOR OTHERS AND THE WORLD REMAINS AND IS IMMORTAL.
MAY YOUR SOUL REST IN PEACE JAKE.
I GOT INTO THIS HOBBY BECAUSE OF YOU.
A brilliant tribute to Jake, a perfect video to revisit every now and again in remembrance…..
This video will be much appreciated from reefers all over the world. ✌🏻
A great tribute to Jake and the work and dedication he put into the Reef builders studio. Well done Than.
One love, Jake has propelled me to be the best reefer I can be.
Sad to hear the studio will be no more- I was hoping it would live on. Thanks for the footage
That I don't know. It might
I still cant believe hes gone.....great video!............................WOW 900 TDS LOL
Oh man he had so many great tanks I love that Australian themed one too
That's my fave
Que grande encontro meu amigo, muito feliz em fazer essa visita com vocês ❤
Thanks a lot to share Jake's passion and all his legacy. Did he use to dose any trace elements or amino besides supplementing calcium and alk via Kalk reactor and CaReactor ? What was his water changes routine ?
I truly glad you shared this with us as there will not be another jake. But with that said your sir are a phenomenal force within the hobbie. Much respect my friend.
This is an amazing video! Even if did not know Jake knowing of his death made me grieve for him. This was one of the first channels that convinced me to try saltwater. I remember there is a video about the coral beauty farm in Palau that I love, I watched it several times. Another video that I loved was one where he went snorkelling to Palau and describes the different corals he found. I love that video, makes me feel like I was there snorkelling.... He will be missed 😢
Rest in piece Jake Adams, a true dedicated hobbyist.
Beautiful video. One that I think many will revisit again and again in the years to come. Personally I love snake polyps and if I'm ever up in the middle of the night or just really really early I'm taking a flashlight to my tank to check them out open.
Glad you enjoyed it! They are indeed interesting corals.
Really well done Than!
Thanks O
I don't know of it's you, or Becca or the specific cameras you use to record but you have a very distinct style of capturing corals on film that really capture and enhance them. I didn't know Jake and like many I still miss his knowledge and infectious personality but I can almost guarantee that he would've loved seeing his corals through your lens. Thank you Than.
I am glad that he DID get to see this footage in its unedited form! I made a copy of it for him before I left the studio that day and he was so blown away by the quality compared to what he normally shoots that he was considering upgrading his camera setup.
@@tidalgardens hearing that he got to this this really put a smile on my face. Thank you again Than.
Hi Mike. Saltwater fish keeping is not hard. If you are keeping a Fish Only With Live Rock (FOWLR), you got this all day. Going coral stick with soft. With soft coral you can get away with regular water changes with a reef salt and a cost effective marine light. Once you go to LPS or SPS, get ready to soend money and move into another level. Get the Saltwater master test kit from API. Use it for cycling.
Awesome 😢
👍
👍👍
👍👍👍
If my Memory is correct the branching chalice , Jose casas and Victor got frags of it from Jake .
Hello, what is the name of the choir that appears at 10:04?
3:38 Why Jake wasn't a fan of sand ?
Father Fish tells that with deep sand bed saltwater aquarium can function without any filtration system.
The hobby lost a good one when we lost Jake
RIP brother
2:39 anyone know what coral this is?
So sad to see this.
