They actually make them grow in reef tank and only cut small portions of the reef at the same spot. Also fishes and rising water temperature destroy the reef in a much large proportion
This is the one i was waiting for!! Being from Australia it's good to see where it all comes from. Some stunning acros there! Lets hope they all don't leave aus because i want some! Keep up the good work Jake!
How easy do you think it is to cultivate, harvest and transport them in such a way that they arrive at your local retailer in a state worthy of paying money for? Also they're living gemstones c'mon.
Visited Cairns Marine a few times now and you can easily spend half a day looking at the livestock and not see everything, the staff at CM are the best bunch of people you could ever meet.
First, I was born in Cairns and my dad ran a live-aboard dive boat so I have been diving since I was like 8. If you have never been to the great barrier, I suggest you go and check it out, it is one of the most amazing natural formations you will ever see. Tourism related to the Reef has an estimated GDP contribution of ~$6 billion per year (www.environment.gov.au/sustainability/publications/economic-contribution-great-barrier-reef-march-2013). In 1975 the Aust Govt. passed an act to ban oil/gas exploration in the reef, this legislation is still under threat from multinationals (most recently pushing for shale). Australia is a bit of a Nanny state when it comes to regulation, and when it comes to the reef we are very strict about environmental protection. If the collection practice that Cairns marine (or the handful of other collectors that have licenses) even came close to effecting the reef, it would be restricted or banned (like how we're not allowed to buy automatic/semi-auto weapons here). IMHO, hand collected coral exports cannot even make a dent in the reef, are amazingly sustainable, and do a fantastic job helping people fall in love with the reef. What I actually came here to ask, @Jake what were the cheapest/most valued corals in your Australian Travels? Trachys and Chalice seem super cheap at the moment.
Very well stated Anthony, and I absolutely agree about the wild reefs. I would definitely have to say that your Ricordea yumas are probably the most precious Australian 'corals', I think I brought the bug bag with me because I had to pick up a couple polyps for myself this weekend!
Im really falling in love with this hobby, So much to learn Id like to start a nano reef tank fairly soon just dont want to spend a lot getting started. Great video.
I am pretty surprised at the comments regarding the number of corals in this facility. How many corals do you think are on a typical reef? like 100 or 200? There can be tens of thousands per square km, and of those a fraction of 1% are small and colorful enough to even be considered for collection. Trust me, if you've ever been diving, you know that HAND COLLECTION could never have an impact on a wild corals - there's BILLIONS of corals on coral reefs, and bleaching, coastal erosion, land reclamation and many other factors each have a much bigger impact on the health of coral reefs and overall coral populations.
So we should just abandon all hope then huh? Hand collection by a couple facilities could wipe out a football field size reef over a few years. Mother nature is destroying the reefs like crazy, but be damned if humans won't seek out the most beautiful corals and snatch them from the ocean too.
I don't know most damage i've ever seen done to corals isn't collection. Climate Change, pollution, destructive fishing, mostly comes to mind. In fact all you need to propagate corals is a fragment. That fragment grows on it's own while the mother coral is left intact. With this process you can sustainably farm coral on your own without going to take wild specimens all the time. Humans can also take a part in saving the Corals by doing this. In fact I don't know why you are upset?
Reef Builders however coral reefs represent less than one percent of the world's ocean habitat, and with the great barrier reef being declared dead this year that number shrinks even more. As someone who supports the hobby such as yourself and wants it to succeed should you not focus on ethical practices of aquaculture that will alleviate the pressures on the ecosystem you claim to love? After all, leading research shows that the rate of habitat destruction, all major reef systems will be gone within the next hundred years.
C'est quand que tu respires dans tes vidéos même au superboal ,ils parlent pas aussi vite !!! Cool merci, je comprends pas tout mais la passion est là ...👏👏👏
Jake, Not sure if you're still even in Oz but if you are, and not already planning to do so, there is a really cool quirky aquarium in Darwin open to the public. It's called Indo Pacifc Marine. The most amazing tank there is this huge (something like 10,000l) tank which get no supplements and never has water changes. Just top up with rain water off the roof! It has these huge Painted Crays, massive clams and lots of fish with personality! I seem to remember the owner told me the tank had been up for over 20 years. Most of the lighting is provided with solar tubes from the roof! Just fascinating to see something so out there different from the mainstream. DAS
I really hope people start sharing how important it is to help keep our reefs stable! We wont have these in the future if things keep going the way they are!!
they use ocean sea water ,,, this kind of facilities pump water to the aquariums from ocean ,, fresh ocean water goes in old dirty waters goes back to ocean and their tanks are so clean .
you are probably over feeds, have lack of current, too much bio load, or your water change water has too much phosphates, test your water correct the mistakes.
Hi Jake from Toronto...Mannnn these are some sexy Acros out there....now i know why Australia doesnt allow import of corals from other countries because they dont need to...luving it...i subbed...
My return pump that needs to pump up to the 2nd floor of my house is a jaboe, it is absolutely bulletproof I also just recently bought 2 of their return pumps you cannot beat the quality and the price
Thanks, that makes sense. I lived in Key West for a while and my wife was born and raised there, and it was "beaten" into us that you don't even look at the coral in a bad way, in the Marine Sanctuary. No disrespect was meant, at all. Thanks for all the great videos.
Not really. If reefs can't survive conditions now, it'll be worse in the near future. There is no sign of us having reversed any damage or even climate change itself. Anything you chuck in the sea will just die too.
@JonsReef Yeah I saw that, but that's short-term, long-term everything will die unless it's figured out why reefs are being decimated worldwide, and corrected.
What people don't tend to understand is that when the water warms in one place to a point of too hot then the water warms in another place to just right. Then the corals move. Not the heats but their offspring which are floating with the currents. They get deposited at random places around the planet and if they're in a good place then they thrive.
Those are some amazing tanks full of acros! It's crazy how long they are(good work for the jebao!). Do they use ocean water or dose insane amounts of calcium and alk to keep their water stable with so much coral ?
those sps look great and the size is amazing. shame you cant buy from them. I dont see those corals at any LFS in Dallas at that size, so some where along the food chain they are cutting them down :(
Depends on what type of reef your trying to replicate, plus possibly ‘How deep are your pockets’? Myself I love All Types both LPS & SPS and a variety of Soft corals, for movement
I always want to show at least some of the technical side, but their filtration was tucked in a dark and loud corner which was not practical to include in the video.
What i wonder is: Did the wholesaler in Australia care his (native) Acan's lords in a different way than in other countries ? Also i was surprised to not see any Rainbow acans.
dont put too much stock in those leds. the tanks are very shallow and the corals dont stay in those tanks long. the longevity is nice but most leds claim 5 years life span or more
What do you do for the corals in the ocean? Do you donate any money to coral saving missions? Like the Restoring Coral Gardens in Fiji campaign? Or do you just rip corals from the ocean and pocket the money?
Lol our tanks take better care of the corals than the ocean is doing rn. If we ever want live corals in the ocean in our future we need to pick and culture them indoors.... bleaching is a thing people
I think you may be overestimating the reproduction of the anthias and underestimating the growth and spawn rates of acropora and anemones. All for sustainable reefing, but there are limits
I think that's a bad way to look at it... Hobbyists having pieces of coral are creating redundancy. There are entire reefs bleaching in Australia right now and this might be saving some species from extinction.
This really show the other reality of this hobby. We are ripping the reef at a huge scale!
They actually make them grow in reef tank and only cut small portions of the reef at the same spot. Also fishes and rising water temperature destroy the reef in a much large proportion
JAKE ! YOU ARE THE BEST NEVER DISAPPOINTING ! YOUR WORK IS BREATHTAKING ! Thanks for your effort
This is the one i was waiting for!! Being from Australia it's good to see where it all comes from. Some stunning acros there! Lets hope they all don't leave aus because i want some! Keep up the good work Jake!
Haha, glad you like it, but just wait until the highlight reel comes out in two parts, inverts & corals, and then fish!
Beautiful corals,great video,keep it up!
its depressing that these things are so expensive! if it was cheaper then we would see much more hobbyists.
@@krimz8139 eh, australian coral is expensive.
Change that - become a coral farmer and sell for a lower price.
How easy do you think it is to cultivate, harvest and transport them in such a way that they arrive at your local retailer in a state worthy of paying money for? Also they're living gemstones c'mon.
I can't even imagine what the electricity bill is like on that building lol. Great corals to go with the previous fish video from Cairns Marine!
just 1 coral a day.
Visited Cairns Marine a few times now and you can easily spend half a
day looking at the livestock and not see everything, the staff at CM are
the best bunch of people you could ever meet.
True that!
Darren Rokesky I would really like work with them. I am studying HNC in acuiculture 😍.

Im really falling in love with this hobby, So much to learn Id like to start a nano reef tank fairly soon just dont want to spend a lot getting started. Great video.
That was amazing!. my jaw dropped on the acro sections
love your channel, and all the stuff you show us.
I wasn't aware I was living under a rock until now. This is incredible!
Really?
That's crazy

acropora can easily grow back at more then that rate. It grows like weeds in the right conditions

Reef Builders In 2:45 minutes you say the name anemona and I can not hear it. You can write what is the name ??
Wow I’d love to go there, it’s coral heaven . Shocked how are there so many dislikes, how is this even possible.
C'est quand que tu respires dans tes vidéos même au superboal ,ils parlent pas aussi vite !!!

good for you man i hope i get to see something beautiful in person too one day. nice work nice video!!

I'm definitely going to take everyone up on their suggestions on my next tour of Oz, and Darwin will be high up on the list
I really hope people start sharing how important it is to help keep our reefs stable! We wont have these in the future if things keep going the way they are!!
Love the Acroporas, so iconic
thank you so much Jake!
13:13 thru then end and the field of waving strawberry acros was stunning... but overall great video of the skittle farm 🔥
I wonder how these places keep their coral tanks so clean (especially the egg crate). I've always had troubles with algae and dinoflagellates.
they use ocean sea water ,,, this kind of facilities pump water to the aquariums from ocean ,, fresh ocean water goes in old dirty waters goes back to ocean and their tanks are so clean .

amazing video tons of corals and everything would be awesome to buy some.
Wow Great video of the facility, impressive!

Imagine having this at your LFS and only wanting 1 coral to take home. It'd take me forever to pick one
merci pour cette vidéo magnifique coraux couleur magnifique 😍😍😍😍
Sansouci
absolutely awesome shop could spend a full week in there and spend a lot of money spot on
It must be super cool if u live close to cairns and be able to get your corals.Absolutely awesome.great videos.
That place is nuts I would be soooo broke
Thanks for the video. But I can't shake the bad feeling that I have when I see so many corals that were removed from a reef.
see pinned comment at top
Thanks, that makes sense. I lived in Key West for a while and my wife was born and raised there, and it was "beaten" into us that you don't even look at the coral in a bad way, in the Marine Sanctuary. No disrespect was meant, at all. Thanks for all the great videos.
places like this will be needed to repopulate reefs if they get wiped out

LOT'S OF THAT IN OUR BACKYARD SEAWATER IN THE PHILS.
Those Acro colonies are amazing! What were they charging for them?
Grazie Jake Adams
would love to know if any suppliers have good supply of R. yumas state side. They are amazing.
Nice vid
I just got a job at Cairns Marine
Can I use some of yr footage for my channel?
Tnx, Nick
Good trick putting a beauty on the front of the video
Am talking about the beautiful girl on the cover
sippin on some sizzurp in the intro really made this
+1
i thought i was the only one who caught that
Bobby Thibs haaaa yes! Instant sub. Who makes that song tho can't remember!
three 6 mafia
Stwo sizzurp i think
Those are some amazing tanks full of acros! It's crazy how long they are(good work for the jebao!).
Do they use ocean water or dose insane amounts of calcium and alk to keep their water stable with so much coral ?
I think they rely primarily on lots of water changes, since they're always shipping out corals and so close to the sea
Thanks Jake! - If only i lived by the ocean!
Can you please supply the name or details of the propeller pumps used in the aquariums?
THAT ACRO THOUGH! omg
How do I get some colonies?
Sweet I want some of that!
Heaven !!
Hi, and at what height and with what spectrum do you grow coral, what are the parameters, thanks.
Beautiful Beautiful beautiful 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
That's a long trip for those corals from Australia to the USA, how long would it take to arrive here at home USA
the transit and handling time to a typical U.S. retailer is at least a week, but probably averages two to three weeks
How do you get such good videos under the blue lights?
White balancing the camera in body many times until it looks right, and LOTS of practice
Where's the girl from the beginning picture lol
The1WARMACHINE i came here for her too
Haha, right?
They clickbaited us.
Gotta have the cutie talkin corals.
Y shop the thumbnail? The coral look great on their own.
those sps look great and the size is amazing. shame you cant buy from them. I dont see those corals at any LFS in Dallas at that size, so some where along the food chain they are cutting them down :(
Someone please tell me the name of the Anemone at 0:14
Wow!
Hey guys, quick question of preference, soft or hard corals !?
Depends on what type of reef your trying to replicate, plus possibly ‘How deep are your pockets’? Myself I love All Types both LPS & SPS and a variety of Soft corals, for movement
I wish you had shown closely how they designed their shallow tanks and how they filter. Great video though.
I always want to show at least some of the technical side, but their filtration was tucked in a dark and loud corner which was not practical to include in the video.
I appreciate your comment. Thanks!!
i learn alot watching this video acropora echinata
What i wonder is: Did the wholesaler in Australia care his (native) Acan's lords in a different way than in other countries ?
Also i was surprised to not see any Rainbow acans.
There had been a cyclone the week before so they were very low on stock overall
Hello I'm Vietnammese,buy Vietnam corals?
Do they restock the reef from were they took them. Or just sale them thanks.
they just sell them...
I also have a lot of coral reef stock in Indonesia, what do you want to buy. If you want to see clay, come to Indonesia
Candy Store with Acros
it's coralmart
You can keep these zebra sharks in a reef tank? What's the minimum size ?
they get 16 ft long... take a guess lol
Too bad you can’t buy any of their stuff off their website. They’re missing out on sales.
In 2:45 minutes you say the name anemona and I can not hear it. You can write what is the name ??
which coral is the 8:55 ?
Why was the eggcrate all white? How do they prevent algae growth on them?
I think they do replace and clean it often
Are those LED's available in the states?
dont put too much stock in those leds. the tanks are very shallow and the corals dont stay in those tanks long. the longevity is nice but most leds claim 5 years life span or more
whats the name of the yellow anemone?
What do you do for the corals in the ocean? Do you donate any money to coral saving missions? Like the Restoring Coral Gardens in Fiji campaign? Or do you just rip corals from the ocean and pocket the money?
You mean like the way ocean fisheries 'give back' for the METRIC TONS of fish they harvest from the oceans?!?
Reef Builders So are you saying because ocean fisheries destroy marine life without giving back we shouldn’t either?
What return pumps do they use?
Big Ass commercial size pumps, lol
can't go wrong with mariculture acros 😃👌👍👍
Whats the name of the yellow anemone
Hi bud Im from Brisbane how can I buy fish and coral from you?
hey you called the corallimorphs corals but they nems

14:53 blue How much would that be?
oh watching this is depressing, im in the u.k. and we get nothing like this
My fish store sells no coral but my local pet store dose. That makes no sense
Hello
Lol our tanks take better care of the corals than the ocean is doing rn. If we ever want live corals in the ocean in our future we need to pick and culture them indoors.... bleaching is a thing people
where does this guy get the money and time to go all over the place? Is it his job? I assume he works for reef builders.
I am the original editor of Reef Builders, traveling to places and events to bring you the news, features and eye candy IS my job
Wow i did not know that. Well that is even cooler. Very nice.
Seriously, what's the point of these latest 2 videos if cairns marine is a wholesaler???
So you know where your corals come from, and encourage your LFS to order the best livestock form reputable dealers so you can get some too
Retailers won't tell where they buy their stock anyways, so still I see no point.
They do in Sydney, especially if they order from Cairns Marine or other reputable collectors. It's a selling point.
we can ask Cairns Marine to send things to our LFS for us here in Australia.
So I would assume none of these corals and anemones were farmed raised? Instead being ripped from the ocean. 👎🏻
Where you think that sunburst Anthias in your avatar came from? Those aren't captive raised . . .
Agreed. But I imagine a Sunburst Anthias can multiply a lot quicker than an acropora's skeleton can grow in the wild which takes years.
Reef Builders b

That rack looks like it shouldn't be able to carry all that weight! lol
Hi friends ilove you too ❤️❤️❤️
You give me a coral or anemone cuttina please and send it to me
Me regalas una anemona para principiantes y me la mandas porfabor te lo pido
