    Thanks for the stating the sound character ("wide U shape") and re: the Yamaha amp's sound=even back in the 70's they were voiced a bit sharp in that critical range so I steered (almost) clear of Yamaha amps since then, for better or worse lol...I do still have two 70's Yamaha receivers in a closet. Gotta love that era!

From Mingus to Pink Floyd this system betters many of others I've put together for a modest expenditure and may be my keeper for awhile (still may upgrade to a balanced Dac - tried a couple, but can't hear a significant difference). I Play loud (I resemble my handle) and the TS-A75 delivers.

    That is an impressive PS (most important part of power amp IMO) for something at this price point. This means can deliver some current which matters more than watts. Sorta like torque vs HP for acceleration in a car or bike. If I didn't already have my Odyssey Stratos Monos, I'd be seriously considering this one. Does look like a giant killer.

    A few interesting specs with this amp. 33db gain. Why so high? 75 watts into 8 and only 100 into 4. I'm surprised there isn't a bit more into 4. Almost all amps have more of a separation between the 8 and 4 ohm rating. Lastly, I see maximum output 7 amps of current and only 100 for damping factor. The way the twin toroidal and capacitance is touted seems it should have more current and higher damping factor. I'm not implying it's a lackluster amp, just surprised at some of the specs compared to how it is built.

    Ummm, am I missing something here? 40Lbs stereo amplifier, apparently biased into low dissipation A/B with dual toroidal transformers and 200,000 uF at 75Watts per channel???? Thing is built like an old school Krell pure class-A space heater. With less wattage, low'ish dampening factor and a $400 AV receiver like power increase into 4Ohms loads? This amplifier is literally almost breaking physics in all the wrong ways. If it doesn't sound like a golden ears paradise, I really can't see the value proposition of this product! 👀

    • @ThomasAndStereo
      @ThomasAndStereo 2 місяці тому +5

      One key thing you are missing is the amp is current feedback design unlike 80% of the amp on the market which is voltage feedback design. So if you evaluate this amp like a normal amp, it will not make sense. That is why at the Montreal audio show, people did not understand how is it possible, people were guessing it was 150 to 200w. Accuphase and First watt are current feedback design. As to what is special about current feedback design, the advantages, disadvantages, I will let you google it.

    • @xxxxxxxxxx6903
      @xxxxxxxxxx6903 2 місяці тому

      @@ThomasAndStereo - Interesting, yes I've read about current gain typology AF amplifiers about 15 years ago. Some interesting (alleged) sonic attributes were stated. Sort of a solid state replication of single ended class-A tube triode sound?
      But this Amplifier's idle current is relatively low biased A/B, much like it's low output power. (Sorry I'm part of the "never too many watts" camp for realistic dynamics and transient attack)!
      Why such a massively over built power supply? Mr Nelson's (First Watt) shop is about an hour away from my location. To my knowledge his designs are class-A with hand tested, curve matched transconductance MOSFETS, and hFE Bipolar output devices. The Accuphase gear is just crazy overpriced in my opinion. For a fraction of their cost one can attain better sonics! And not to enrage a bunch of purists out there, but class-A SS biasing is soo last century. With the current crop of class-d and spread spectrum pwm amps now, the old high biased/A space heater linear designs just seem as antiquated as 8tracks cassettes now! As I was alluding to earlier, if this Amp somehow creates sonic nirvana I suppose the build & cost are justified! I'm just not sure it's existence wasn't just an exercise of "let's be different"?

      @@xxxxxxxxxx6903 I will have the TS A20 class A coming soon too that is very similar to the Pass lab idea. I have actually AB tested it against a very famous class D AGT monobloc and I would not say class D has the edge. Well, for me it comes down to performance. You can add a warp core in if you want but if it does not perform, then who cares. Whether it is 'let's be different' design or not, just keep watching more reviews coming and one common theme you will see is this amp has 'power'. The latest customer review I got on my website is from a customer with 2 Schitt vidar with 400w mono output and he is shocked how this TS A75 can play louder with "only 75w" and how everything just leveled up. Tee Jay say this amp has more power than the Audiolab 8300 XP with 230w @ 4ohm.

    • @ThomasAndStereo
      @ThomasAndStereo 2 місяці тому +4

      It is not a reliability issue but rather a mathematical issue. In business, you have certain "rules" you can use to determine the final selling price to ensure you are within the 'safe' zone. So you need to factor in the cost + cost of running a business. To increase the warranty to 20 years for example, I would need to factor that into the cost and that would increase the price of the amplifier. I also decided to give a 5 star customer service as opposed to 1 star. So I thought hard about it and decided to go with a 1 year warranty so I can price it at $1495, that way more people can have access to it. The amp runs cold and usually, the number one enemy of reliability is heat. Good components were chosen to maximize the life span of the amp. Also, the amp is "capped" at 100w into 4 ohm on purpose instead doubling to 150w to increase the life span of the amp. (According to what the designer told me but I have no idea how that works)

    where have you been hiding yourself chasing the women😂
    yeah that's what it needs some preamp shootout.
    you said DC officer it hasn't got bias adjustment as well or that could be bias adjustment. Do you know what that figure is??? it's worth having that figure if you need to make any changes in the future check it's working at its best.
    I did tell Thomas to put a gain setting knob on the amplifier then it would have had better matching with lower output preamps as you have found out. even a toggle switch at three different settings that's what the amplifier needs. what is the voltage you preferred then about 3 volts VPP probably can take four or fiveV it might like?? my amplifier can take 9.7 volts you can adjust it that's what Thomas should have put on his sounds like it likes to be driven hard don't blame it😮😊

      @@tee-jaythestereo-bargainph2120 that sucks you ok now!!
      what was the voltage gain on the preferred preamp you used an audio lab you said do you know what it said it was in DBu?? just try a little three or four channel mixer, you can drive it harder than! with a four band graphic equaliser with defeat about $200
      might work better than a dedicated preamp except valves possibly, you can get them in mixers as well, do you try valves as a preamp?? you didn't try valves did you as a preamp? needs to be the right type of preamp right type of valve that's particular when you're driving solid state.
      have a look around and get yourself a nice little desk look for something with a nice floor of 108 db or better up to you if you want the four band EQ I would advise to have it it's always those bad songs that need EQ a bit or maybe speakers as you pointed out can be bright and you can compensate and it's better than tone controls you want gain adjustment what is better than pitch control
