TY I thought I was going to have to take newly purchased grids to my pool supply company to install because until I saw your video, I had gotten frustrated trying it myself. I did it step by step like you showed and got the job done TY again !
Watched many videos regarding reassembly of grids;,,, you are the only one that gave me the Trick: Assemble it upside down, put grids in the manifold first and you also pointed out the instructions for the short grid.... Very Very BASIC ; saved me a trip to the pool store... Thanks again.
This video is still relevant in 2023. I wanted to give up putting the darn thing back together until I found this video. Thank you, from a diy guy from the Philipines.
This type of filter was new to me. I removed all of the grids and had the hardest time putting them back in. In fact, I stopped, left everything as is, and now searched youtube for "how to" videos. Your video was the most logical and easy to follow. I'll put I back together tomorrow like a pro! Thanks for the video!!
Andy, thanks much for the awesome instructions. After inadvertently removing the bottom of the filter assembly while taking apart the assembly I realized that I might be up the proverbial creek. Your steps for completely rebuilding the filter assembly were invaluable in making the job simple and complete. Many thanks.
I want to thank Andy for demonstrating the proper way to reinstall the grids on a DE filter. The older I get the less patience I have so with being said, I will now forgo beating the filter with a claw hammer. Most other videos I watched didn't show the grids being totally dismantled. Washed in place and back into the tank. This is much better.
Took new used de filter apart, cleaned the elements, tried putting back together, lost patience, found and watched this video - problem solved. Thanks!
Thanks +Jay Kruemcke for letting us know! We're happy to hear that this video is helping to get the job done! Hope you and everyone watching can successfully swap their filter grids and stay swimming!
since i spent the last 45min outside cussing trying to put the filter grids , i really thank you for this simple hack ....the de hack , had tuff time aligning the grids
Thanks for posting this video. It is exactly what I needed, as I took the filter apart to clean it but then wasn't sure about how to get it back together. I hadn't intended to completely take it apart but once I removed the nut on the rod it just sorta took itself apart. Especially helpful was your idea of placing the top on the bottom and replacing the grids in that position. Took me all of about ten minutes, thanks to you.
I wish I would have found you 3 years ago. The first time I replaced my filters I took me, my son & daughter over an hour (maybe 2) to them back together. After I learned about that little "Shake" method had them together in minutes. Thanks!!
I watched several videos about replacing these grids. I was super frustrated because they did not help. My wife and I tried several times to get the dang filter back together. Once I watched your video and you turned the grid over, Bingo. We were done, Thank you so much!
Too bad there wasn’t two thumbs up on your video. I watched two other guys do it the opposite way top last instead of top first struggled for over 45 minutes with those guys with you I almost kept up with you that’s how quick I did it thank you so much
Thank you! I was going crazy wrestling with it over 20 minutes trying to put the manifold on top. Did it your way and had it together in about 5 minutes--saved my sanity!
This is the way to do it…after trying to fit the slots first, many swears later l tried this way, much easier!! For beginners like me I would suggest making the slot adjustment fin by fin. The expert in the video shakes it around a few times and he had it, that wasn’t my experience. Anyway, thanks for the tutorial, saved me time and money!
Excellent job explaining this! I did this about 15 years ago, before youtube was so popular. It took me hours to get it back together. With the help of your video, it took me less than an hour this time. Thanks!
Thank you Fran! We appreciate the feedback and are happy the video helped you. If you (or anyone else) wants to try to clean existing grids before replacing we recommend using Cartrdige Renu which is a safe and effective cleaner for filter grids: www.eztestpools.com/cartridge-renu/
Everybody - this is the absolute "best procedure" for changing your pool filter grids - you start by inserting the grids into the manifold -- just make sure you put the narrow grid in the proper manifold opening -- everything follows from there --THANKS THANKS THANKS
Thank you for this informative video explaining how to replace the grids in my Hayward DE filter. Your great video helped make the whole process very quick and easy. Well done.
Thank you. I was putting grids on the base first. Couldn’t get the manifold to line up. Your video started to play after watching that other one I was having no luck with. I have to admit I didn’t think your way was going to work. Glad I was wrong! I just hope I tightened the manifold on enough. Fingers crossed I am done fixing the pool for this season!
So easy, even a girl can do it! Thanks for the great tips...your video made it easier for me. I was thinking the shimmy shimmy shake to get the top piece on was a little sketchy but it worked. So, thanks!!
We are very happy the video was helpful! We have many informational videos and if you have any questions in the future please feel free to reach out to our Customer Service Department at 877-209-7773!
A no non sense video that's to the point in a short few minutes. I used to spend a lot of time and a lot of water cleaning without removing the grids. I didn't realize there was a short grid and struggled for a long time putting that unit back together the first time I took the grids out. Stressed out, spent a long time trying to figure out how to get it back together saying I would never remove them a gain. When shown in this video ,its easy to install the grids. Thanks for the short quick video!
I actually tossed the d@%n grids and top manifold in the pool in a fit of disgust. Thank you so much Andy for making it easy. I did not know that the whole assembly came out. I was thinking this thing was like a Chinese wire puzzle that i would never get.
One follow on make sure you watch the end on how to line up the bottom plate. I spent at least 15 mins, then watched video again till the end, boy did that make the difference got them lined up in a few mins. Again Thanks
Great video! I will follow your instructions when I replace my grids tomorrow. Question: If my filter has one of those plastic templates underneath the top manifold, do I put that down before putting the grids in?
Great video and thanks for sharing. Taking apart was no problem, putting in back together was a little more challenging but your video explained it clearly and everything went back together quickly. I live in So. NH and am looking for a new pool supply company as mine went out of business. I'll check out your store and purchase my supplies through you since you helped me out. Thanks!
I watched your video and feel confident that I can do it myself. I tried to remove my filter and cleanit out myself once before and found a lot of the grids had holes in them and I put them back together as they were. It was difficult for me to put it all back together as the grids was not fully snugged back into the manifold frame. Since I was getting annoyed I just put them as I could and put them back into the filter. I see that now my pool is gone green since probably the filter isnt doing its job and I am going to try to replace the grid assembly with a whole new one. Is Pleatco PFS2448 Filter Grid Set for Pentair, American, Hayward, Nautilus, Pac-Fab (7 full + 1 half), 48 sq ft a good one to purchase ? I have a Hayward 48 Sq Ft DE filter Any other tips I should follow before I replace my grids. Since the pool is green, is it ok for me to replace the grids and the treat the pool to kill the algea or should I kill the algea and then replace the grids
Hi Naren, Thanks for watching our video. The pleatco brand has mixed reviews ranging from good to bad, with some people having problems with them clogging. We recommend using OEM grids from Hayward, or these are a good lesser expensive option; APCFS2002 you can find them here: www.paspdirect.com/eztest/search.html?catalog=1 Then type APCFS2002 into the search bar. Currently they are $97 for the full set.
After 20 years, I only ran into filter cleaning on UA-cam today, duh. 1. I always clean the grids as shown in your video and never knew what back-wash was. I wonder if they are the same, except back-wash is only having part of the job done? 2. My pressure gauge is broken (20years!), Learning from UA-cam today seems the only function for the gauge is to remind me when to back-wash. Since I clean the grids whenever I feel the suction drops, (sometimes with a week, heavy algae), guess replacing the gauge is not a must, right? Your clarification will be appreciated.
Great video. Thanks. P.S. what path does the clean water take to get into the manifold? Are there holes in the vertical plastic pipes that fit into the manifold?
Yes, each "grid" has a plastic pipe in it. One side of the pipe is covered by the grid's mesh while the other end is open. You, of course, insert the open end into the plastic manifold. In turn, the manifold has a large opening (the one the video guy was telling you to line up) that sits atop the large plastic pipe in your DE filter. That makes this a closed system. Water enters your DE filter, is forced through the grids, sucked up into the manifold, and down the large pipe to re-enter your pool. The DE covers the OUTSIDE of your grids and catches the microscopic (and larger) muck while allowing cleaner water to pass through the grid's mesh. This also means that if you see DE entering your pool that you need to: - make sure the grids are inserted into the manifold correctly; - make sure the manifold is tightened down correctly; - inspect your grids for holes; - inspect your manifold for cracks
Does anybody know if they make any updates to these grids filters? Like longer screw so it would be easier to put it together rather then just guessing where the other end goes. The bottom of the assembly should have better design, it should be marked exactly where the grids are going. PS. Great video however I figured it out by myself before. I guess it’s helpful for all people how is trying to start with the difficult end. :)
I grew up with a pool in the backyard (the '70s) and learned how to maintain it as a teenager. I have since discovered that the newer "DE grid assembly bases" do NOT show the owner where to place each grid anymore, whereas the base my parents still use does. I've also noticed that a lot of people do not have a plastic "filter grid template" that goes between the top of the grids and the manifold. It holds the grids in place while you position the manifold on top. Without either of these 2 items, I can understand why messing with filter grids drives some people crazy.

Thank you for watching!
@@Eztestpools it was actually very easy doing it your way. I believe the key is to jiggle around the bottom so it seats better.

After watching countless videos and failed attempts, I came across your video. In MINUTES, my squeaky clean grids were back in place. Thank you!
Glad to hear Denise. Glad we were able to help. Thank you for watching.

Thank you so much for this video. You saved my husband’s sanity.
Thank you!
Flipping the top to the bottom is brilliant in putting the filter back together. Thank you for sharing this wonderful idea! 😀❤️
Thanks Robin!
Thanks so much- I just put the thing back together myself- my husband is going to be so impressed when he gets home!
This is the best video on this topic I have found. Turning the assembly
upside down makes it 1000 times easier to assemble.
THANKS THANKS THANKS

The shortest grids are the easiest. The tallest grids are a nightmare. Beware.
