Just FYI, you replaced an automatic air purge value with a manual one. The automatic one has a ball valve assembly that is in the down position when the air is being purged and once the water hits the top, it lifts the ball and forms a seal (supposedly). What ends up happening is DE gets into the ball valve housing past that filter and it gums up the ball causing it to not form a good seal and leak. All you need to do is slide the filter off, clean the ball and reinstall. My concern with the "new" manual one is that if you have any leak in your system, you'll end up with air in the filter and never know about it until you manually open the purge valve. If you still have the old one, remove the filter and i'm sure the problem was DE gumming up the ball.

When I put my new part back on; I was able to turn half of the way, but cannot lock all of the way where both arrows are together . Mine is half was locked, and I see no leaks. How did you get yours to completely turn to the lock position? I can’t use a pipe wrench, because there is no room. 🧐🧐

Great video. I did the same thing today but I have a concern that I was replacing an automatic relief valve with a manual one. If air gets in the unit during operation and I don’t manually vent out the air I could run into problems.

The older one was manual too, it was just a screw instead of a lever.

Yes there was a manual screw, however there was also this kind of ping pong ball assembly that automatically received all the air when I opened the pool and the filter had no water in it.

The new assembly is garbage. The old one had a ball that would release air and close when water pushed it upwards. I am looking everywhere to buy the old part.

The old one did not do a fantastic job of that, also it had metal internal parts that rusted and a screw that required several turns and could easily get lost.

They don't make the old style because of the leaking
