This trailer - by itself - is a wonderful tribute to Wilder. That it's from a full-length documentary is wonderful. I'm looking forward to seeing this film.
    Best wishes from Vermont ❄️

I love him so much. From the moment I first saw Willy Wonka and. the Chocolate factory on the big screen in 1970 (and the screens were REALLY big back then), he has always been magical to me.

His pairings with two African-American comic actors--Cleavon Little of Chickasha, Oklahoma, in Blazing Saddles, and, of course, Richard Pryor of Peoria, Illinois, in numerous films, should NEVER be forgotten.

Back in the late 70's on a Sunday morning, I was in a natural foods store on Melroase Avenue in West Hollywood and suddenly Gene Wilder walked up to me looking totally hung over and asked me "Where's the carrot juice?" He thought I was an employee. I told him I wasn't an employee but I did know where the carrot juice is. I walked him over to the carrot juice cooler section and he grabbed a quart bottle and chugged 1/2 of it in one gulp. He made a funny Gene Wilder face and said: "Awwww, carrot juice." He thanked me profusely and took another chug and headed to the check out line to pay up. He seemed like a very nice person.

Seriously when I heard Gene Wilder died on CTV being a huge fan of his myself at 27 years I just choked up and said "no" and nearly cried out of sadness and despair at his loss. I am so happy I have some DVDs of his work having seen most of them mainly Silver streak, Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory, Young Frankenstein and to celebrate it's 50th anniversary I checked out Blazing saddles and all of them were excellent and had me laughing like crazy. Even if you were before my time you were a treasure for me may you rest in peace you brilliant comedic genius Gene Wilder. On a separate but related note I feel so sad for Mel Brooks personally because I can say in roughly 20 years he has lost so many people close to him: Gene Wilder, Anne Bancroft and Dom Deluise just to name a few and this is just off the top of my head no research of any kind and they all came after him and died before him and he still lives at 98 years old this year. Honestly when Mel Brooks does finally pass on it will indeed be a sad event and much sadness will be had but I will be happy for him as he will be reunited with all those he loves so dearly. Maybe I don't think I'm saying it right but what I mean is I won't be happy when Mel Brooks does pass on I'll indeed be sad when it happens I'm going to be happy because he's going to be reunited with those he loves. A personal toast and much love from both a Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks fan :').

Make em laugh ! Gene Wilder did that, and much more. He was in my mind, one of the all time greats, comedy has always been one of the most difficult to preform, to make people laugh ! When you think of Wilder, when he says "hallo" to the monster in the cell, or when he says "no" to Frau Bluther, for something to drink, or "Put the candle back" i could go on..There will never be another Gene Wilder.

I Watched this last night and all I have to say what an amazing man and incredible documentary. Call me insane or depressed but I was most curious about Gene's Alzeimers struggle because I had ever only heard it in stories and seen it only in movies. All I have to say about it now after that and being on the verge of tears for both Gene Wilder and his family what a devastating and horrible disease. I'm happy that the struggle wasn't edited out as we got to see Gene forgetting all of the movies he did and how Mel Brooks couldn't get anymore calls from his best friend as he could barely remember or speak and Karen Boyer did everything she could for the man she loved ever so dearly despite losing his mobility ever so gradually. What also freaked me out about Gene Wilder's Alzeimers is he is living proof that even if one does lead an active life style be it physical or mental which is what he did via swimming in his pool and dancing in the physical department and being an author and painter in the mental department and it has been said that doing both physical and mental exercise are fantastic ways to prevent alzeimers especially in later years is he still got it regardless. On the upside at least when he did pass away he did have some even if slight memory of who he was who his wife Karen Boyer was and who his best friend Mel Brooks was. I'm just putting this here but both you Karen Boyer amazing loving and dearing wife of Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks legendary film maker and dear best friend to Gene Wilder and maker of many of my personal favourite comedies(young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, Space balls, Robin hood men in tights, paws of fury the legend of Hank and the Hotel Transylvania film series: this is proof that I speak the truth in what I'm saying about Mel Brooks movies and not making things up as sadly some fans have a nasty if accidental habit as they'll say they're a fan of somebody but have no recollection of any of the work that person did diminishing if not outright denying their claim to fandom)You have my deepest sympathies and condolences. I would usually say I wish you luck for the future but you have already lived such incredible and amazing lives that instead I'll say I hope you two join and get reunited with Gene Wilder very soon as it is overdo and you do all deserve to be reunited. All I hope is I'm not saying this wrong by putting this last bit as I most certainly don't wish death on them as much as I think it would be nice if both Karen Boyer and Mel Brooks could be reunited with their loving husband and best friend respectively.

  • @Josh-Fischer9804

What amazes me in a really good way is that Gene Wilder has now been gone for eight years this year, stopped acting entirely by choice for at least ten years and was still in insane demand for many films before his death and is still regarded as one of the greatest comedic talents of all time as well as still celebrated to this day and even received his own awesome documentary that is indeed a fine tribute and celebration of a very wonderful man. The reason why I say this is because sadly like many actors who do die especially in comedy they usually fade into obscurity soon afterwards and the fact that Gene Wilder stayed out of the spotlight as according to his last interview back in 2013 was for 22 years with his last big film role being Another you all the way back in 1991 had me thinking he had lost some significance due to time away from the spotlight but absolutely not the opposite proved true as even though he chose not to do anything for a really long time he was indeed celebrated for what he did do in the world of film and a lot of it actually aged well. If there was any one man that one could call not just a legendary comic but a true comic of legend Gene Wilder is that man. On an unrelated note the main reason why Gene Wilder stopped acting and he said it numerous times was because of all the swearing, violence, CGI, lack of overall real acting, no real direction for all of the above as it just comes off as mindless and not thought out and the fact that all of this stuff was present at the time made Gene Wilder actually love acting but hate Hollywod and wouldn't you know it he was absolutely right about everything he said right down to the letter. I guess like most comedians Gene Wilder was also a prophet as he did in a way predict the direction in which Hollywood and the rest of the movie industry would go. The joke of me calling him and other comedians prophets is because comedians including Gene Wilder make mocking jokes about every day society and other industries to make others laugh and we all laugh it off as absurd nonsense never bound to happen even the comics laugh at their own jokes seeing them as well jokes but almost always sooner or later all of these things that comedians keep making jokes about all seem to come to pass and become fact. This is also why nowadays politicians want them silenced as they seem to speak too much truth and too little lies making smart people raise questions and making people more educated along the way. No politician wants that. Love all of your movies that I've seen and may you make the good lord and many other people in your next life laugh as much as you did in this life that you lived

This was a great documentary to watch at our Milwaukee Film Festival this year and I enjoyed seeing Gene Wilder's filmography and talent again. I always loved his version of Willy Wonka as a kid and his singing and character was always heart-warming to me. I HAD NO IDEA HE WAS LEO BLOOM!!!!! I knew The Producers was a play, but the only film version I knew of was the one with Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. But anyways, I loved this tribute, especially as a Milwaukee native myself. 😊

Silver Streak, Stir Crazy, See No Evil, Hear No Evil and Another You all need a little tlc and a nice 4K transfer each.

I recently watched Blazing Saddles to directly celebrate its 50th anniversary. I don't think I've ever laughed so much or so hard at a movie in such a long time it really is one of the greatest comedies of all time bar none 10/10 in my book. To everyone who keeps throwing fits and complaining about the blatantly open display of racism in the movie it's extremely deliberate to address it and to also show how far we came along at the time and how we've come along now. Oh and Richard Pryor who has also been mentioned in this trailer was one of the people who wrote Blazing Saddles himself and at least one of the actors was so insanely uncomfortable with using the N-word that he outright refused to use it until he got what he described as Cleavon Little's blessing with Little responding and telling the said actor "Don't worry this is only acting and I know it doesn't reflect your attitude". That speaks volumes about this movie and about everyone on board

What I find is tragic about Gene Wilder's death is that he absolutely loved children to the point he could not bare to see them unhappy and he died practically being a "child" as that is what alzheimers eventually does to the afflicted person as first their memories and behaviours deteriorate and fade from them and when it gets to the latest stages the person doesn't even know who they are and has likely regressed to an infantile state mentally by that point. This year Gene Wilder would be 91 years old but I wouldn't want to be alive if I was him as he probably wouldn't even know who he is never mind those around him and he'd probably be stuck in a saddened stupor being like a child and having no way to fend for himself
