I hope you're enjoying this series for far!🤘🏼 Which was actually your fav shot of the film? Mine was quite surely the one of Joseph waking up in the grass🤤
This is a great BTS series - thank you for sharing, and the final film works beautifully. I love that when you give direction in German - “Action!” is still “Action!”
Yes! Production planners take great care together with the director to plan shots - even from different scenes in the same location, as this helps with continuity of lighting and set dressing. Also lighting a scene takes the most time in prep, so light changes are kept to a minimum on a shooting day. And often with big name actors they plan to have them onset as little as possible. It can be so bad that an OTS is done with the actor’s stand-in. And the reason to do all shots of a location at the same time is also that you can get rid of that sound stage, or external location fees. Here in the Netherlands we have very limited floor space. So renting a sound stage or building a set on location often are the biggest costs. For this kids movie for which I did some VFX work on, there was a barn we wanted to use. And the cheapest we found was 1200 euros a day and the owner only allowed filming on a certain day because he had to haul is crops in - producers don’t really know about farming because all other farmers didn’t have a barn available because of the yield :) Which also meant that the pyro that was planned (explosion supplemented with CG) became all CG because rigging the pyro would cost almost a day. Which we then shot against a black screen on an outside area at the same time by the second unit. And comped in over the actual barn. And it meant rigging the actual barn with 4 or 5 2K with CTO and some floppy flags flopping to get that interactive lighting. Which was done last because there’s would also be debris from the explosion etc. That cleaning that up for the dialogue shots before the explosion would cost too much time. The production planners are brilliant at that. And often on a big shoot there’s more parameters like the physicality or logistics. Not all production trucks and deliveries can fit on a location. Availability of talent, in case of a kids movie the kids working schedules. All taken into account. And that’s why people get very angry when thing run late and less and less practical effects are done for that reason. Because shooting schedules these days are extremely tight. Literally on some productions a director has only a fixed amount of time to get a shot if not made it, they’ll move on and edit around it and if it happens too often he gets replaced. It’s not fun being a director anymore.
Nice Video! First of all: wtf is wrong with your english?! And with that I mean, how come a fellow Austrian ( Im guessing here) has like no accent?! :) I actually found your channel because I was looking for a wide angle lens and i stumbled apon your video on the Samyang AF 14mm! Do you still use the lens a lot? ( I know you didnt use it in the film) or is it all Tamron now?Your establishing shots in the film there look really wide! So maybe that would be a good alternative for me as well! Keep up the good work! I subscribed :)
hahah no problem! :,D And thank you! :) I just began to panic for a short moment, as I saw that you commented on a video that wasn't actually released yet (something weird is going on with UA-cam I suppose🤷🏻♂️)
ahhh I think I might've found out what happened. The video was unlisted, but it was part of one of my playlists. Could it be that the video then shows in the playlist?🤔

2:17 (static shot of him walking thorugh the forest) is subtle but really gets across the feeling very well.
mhmm yes, I understand :)

Aww thank you! Hahah back then I did that but I have (sadly or not?) switched to the typical German "...und bitte"😅
