    Peter, I am a 57 year old, 30 year veteran Gaffer and amateur photographer in Atlanta who has basically left the business to start doing my own thing. I really like the way you teach with humor, a bit of tech, some artsy thrown in, etc... I also like that you are showing what work and effort it really takes to create awesome sequences, maybe and unfortunately, shattering some hopes based on some of the comments below. People need to remember that you are a professional. Thanks for your good advice, after all these years in the biz I am learning new things and getting motivated.

    • @moo8698
      @moo8698 5 років тому +8

      Indeed. He can do his little videos about basics of how to operate a camera and do this or that. Otherwise he has no knowledge, imagination or anything that it takes to make something else than a youtube video. He is fun, tho. I like him, but he doesn't even know what is cinematic, who's a filmmaker or how to light something, how to get an actual movie like footage.
      When he makes a so called "cinematic" video and you see a pointles shot about making coffee in slow motion, you should really know that he has no actual knowledge. BUT STILL, HE IS FUN.
      WE and I don't have problem with his videos, I watch them because it's fun.
      He is like a guy with a car who likes to drive fast and still he wouldn't be a good racer. We know that.
      Shane Carruth can do a feature with a camera nowhere near as good as that. Still that's a movie, that looks like a movie. He is a filmmaker.
      Peter is not a filmmaker, he is a youtuber. He can't record just a single shot that's cinematic, because he doesn't know how to do that.

    • @Off_the_beaten_path
      @Off_the_beaten_path 5 років тому +1

      @@moo8698 Idk if that's totally fair. I agree with you in that most UA-camrs would be relatively useless when it comes to a full production movie set but someone like Peter, is still a pro in his trade and I'd wager he'd learn super fast if thrown into that environment. Yeah he makes pointless and short cinematic sequences but the dude definitely understands location scouting, the importance of framing and how that affects the viewer, and he is on top of his tech game. These are all base level skills you need for full length features. So I agree, at present, Pete's no filmmaker, but that's not his platform, UA-cam is. He excels at his platform. It would be interesting to see him expand and create actual short films with actors, sets, and the whole thing. It would be nice to see him as a beginner and how he moves through the process

    • @fiddleandfart
      @fiddleandfart 5 років тому +2

      @@moo8698 I think that's a little harsh. I think Peter's got a considerable visual eye, and knows how to capture a great visual, and, indeed, how to create one. Of course film-making is far more than pretty pictures, but I am sure that Peter, given his evident talent, considerable charisma, and sheer likeability, could steer his career that way if he wanted. But, clearly, he's very happy using his skills and talents as he does - and brilliantly, and selflessly, trying to help others get half as good he is.

    It was good to see these behind the scene videos.
    You know, when all of your shoots looking so natural and blending in so well with the story, it feels like wow man, I can do it in a day! But when I try it, it looks nothing like that, and I spent way more time on it I dare to admit.
    Now, I am not in the UA-cam game (I only tasted it for curiosity) but in the software development one. But still, it feels the same. When I forgot about time, and I spend a week on something I planned for 2 days (worst case scenario, 2 days) I feel like, "what is wrong with me?".
    But anything that is quality takes time.
    Thanks Peter for sharing some real-life footage :D

    Wow. I love how you and your team focus on the cinematography instead of just constant zoom transitions. Awesome video.

    Woah, so good! I made a cinematic vid last weekend too, but it is sooo contrasted to this. I think I'll just stay here and appreciate this a few more times😊

      Diego Loria , then why are you so sycophantic? 12 year olds don’t know any better... He’s using $60k of equipment and two assistants to shoot cinematic coffee making for the 30th time this year. Please!!!

      I have a Nikon D500, which isnt great for videos, but I think what makes a big big big difference is having access to a quality gimbal. I don't know from personal experience though, but all of my videos come out extremely shaky because I have some super shaky hands.

    I remember the first day you got into Marques Brownlee studio and thought it was insane to make videos for youtube with a Red... now look at you, 2 red´s for a coffee sequence and you are only "acting"? That´s raising the bar for sure!!! congrats on that!
