Love your you tube channel your awesome , can you critique Heatwave the lead singer Johnny wilder jr. Song always and forever , that would be great , thanks Scott
Another great one! I've always liked it when a guy can hit those high notes because it seems like such a difficult thing to do. Love his voice. Thanks Ken!
Never listened to al green i don't think I've heard of him I may have but he don't ring a bell didn't know he did a beegee song awesome yes hes good Ken I like his voice hes a good soulful singer Ken love it man👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I grew up listening to the Rev Al Green. In fact his music, along with other R&B acts like Otis Redding, Smokey Robinson, and Aretha Franklin were in heavy rotation on my dad's record player and on my parents' car stereos when I was little. A couple of side notes: (1) it was actually a pot of hot grits that were poured on Al before his ex-girlfriend committed suicide, and (2) he returned to recording secular music in the 2000s though he's still a pastor.
One of my favorites! When I was first diagnosed with MS in 2003. I had to give myself shots everyday. I would listen to music to relax before my shot. Well Al Greene did it everytime!
Noticeable shift in attentive listening at 5:50. When I listen like that, I’m learning. Very quiet, very still, hearing every nuance, and even the overall vibe. He’s demonstrating that legendary sound for the chorus esp and it’s cool to see it get your attention like it gets mine even after all these years!!
when I think of Al Green, I also think of Marvin Gaye....Mr bedroom voice. Al is just so smoky smooth and yes very gentle but powerful with his singing style. Yeah makes you want to fall right into his arms. Well me being a girl and all.lol.. Such control of his voice you want to get lost in it..Timeless!!!
Thanks for this great video Ken nothing like the great sound of Motown, Just as you probably did Ken i remember when i was a kid back in the early 70s getting up every Saturday morning tuning in to Don Cornelius and watching Soul Train, That how i got turned on to this great music.
@@deweyclark3574 I think motown distributed the Hi Lecords LPs (at least Al Green's) in the US in the early 70's; but memphis sound had sure nuthin' to do with with the detroit sound!
Great video and subject. When I think of Al Green, I also think of the hot grits story, of course. Also, his Gospel songs. And lastly his timeless & effortlessly seductive voice. Probably the sexist male singing voice I've heard, it's so stirring and could put any woman in the mood. What a gift!

Thank you Blessings 🙏🏻
Hi, I've actually a couple suggestions in mind. So, what about videoa about the following artists: - Simon and Garfunkel (or either one of them) - Don McLean - Jørn Lande - Tobias Sammet (Edguy/ Avantasia) - Bob Catley (Magnum, Avantasia) - Ronny Atkins (Pretty Maids, Avantasia) - Geoff Tate (Queensryche, Operation:Mindcrime) - Maná (Mexican band) - Enrique Bunbury (Héroes del Silencio, solo) - John Denver - Elkin Ramírez (Kraken (Columbia)) - Adrián Barilari (Rata Blanca (Argentina)) - José Andrea (Mago de Oz, José Andrea y Uróboros) I would appreciate it, if some of them would turn into a video. 🙂
I sing Al Green to Sara through the screen every time she's on. But we don't need to go there! One more awesome video to the pile of great stuff Ken does!
Can i suggest something a little bit different? There is this 'new' artist from Spain called Rosalía. I only heard of her a couple of months ago (but she's been around a couple of years I think) and have been awed by her. Not only has she got an incredible voice but she composes, writes and procuces her music. She also has major input onto her videos which are a piece of art in on themselves. Please could you give her work a try to see what u think? She is quite genre fluid as well so you will find her songs differ a bit from each other. As you are a vocal coach you may appreciate her live versions first. Try Me Quedo Contigo at the Goya Awards and then perhaps De Plata live in Seville. For videos try Malamente, Di Mi Nombre, Bagdad and Aunque es de Noche. Thanks!
Dude , Jeff Scott Soto ... was it when he fronted Yngwie Malmsteen at 19 years old that started his greatness ? 1985 was so long ago. Got the shirt from that tour m he was ridiculous
OK everybody Al Green recorded in Memphis Tennessee about 2 miles from Stax record he was produced by Willie Mitchell for a company called hi records he had nothing to do with Motown
Willie Mitchell's son Boo runs the studio now and recently won a Grammy for producing "Uptown Funk" by Bruno Mars. I was able to sit in the studio with Boo as he worked with Motown Writnng legend Lamont Dozier as he re-recorded his old hits. Al Green's original master tapes are sitting right on the shelf just outside the control room.
I love Al Green! Ken, since you are taking request for "What Makes This Singer Great", how about Dan Fogelberg? Would love to hear your opinion of him. I know it's hard to find good vocals of him live but I have faith in you. Also, he was a great guitarist. Another edit; What Makes This Singer Great - Stevie Nicks
All the Motown artist back in the day had a certain swagger about themselves. Male or female, didn't matter. Some of my best childhood memories include singing (if you want to call it that) to the Motown hits on the am radio in my Dad's car! I think my favorite was the Four Tops. Why you throw that out there? Even if there were rumors, which I don't believe there were, why put that out there? Are you trying to start a rumor? God don't like ugly.
I love I’m Still In Love With You! And Let’s Stay Together! Are his high notes falsetto? I’d be in trouble if you left me know.......or......We are neighbors! An anthem for the anti-racist crowd. Eugene Record had a beautiful high register. I say high register because I don’t know the difference between falsetto and all those vocal terms. I just know when something sounds good.

Not any different than an athlete or an actor or a politician; most have trainers/coaches/advisors. Would you think that most concert pianists, for example, are prodigies or would you think that they've had training? The voice is no different.
