What Makes This Singer Great? Jennifer Hudson - Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy
When speaking of the top artists over the last decade, Jennifer Hudson’s name definitely makes that list for me.
Jennifer is such a unique artist and she really beats to her own drum having carved out her own place in music.
Known for her charisma and confidence, Jennifer is able to get that big, wide sound using an old school, Motown approach to her singing that really sets her apart.
In addition to her awesome pitch, she’s got great strength in her abdomen which allows her to achieve that power and really bring those notes home.
I’m going to break down a live performance of her version of the classic “A Change Is Gonna Come” as I share more about what I think makes Jennifer unique.

There is no one else today with the sound like Jen Hudson....the way she plays her instrument is a revelation in the music world in every way. I have loved her voice/sound from the first time I heard it....the fact she can go from alto to soprano without missing a beat is amazing and her range is totally out of this world.

You call it Motown but she has a gospel sound like a lot of the older Motown singers. You can tell she has a gospel background. I love her voice, she touches the heart and soul. Her range, technique, tone and pitch is perfect. She’s so confident and I love that as well. Such a powerful sound, love her♥️

She is one of those singers who are magical. You can have so many different emotions when they sing. Jennifer, Celine, and Whitney are those type in my opinion. Full discloseure. My gf dragged me to see Celine in Vegas and to this day best concert ever!!

Hands down Jennifer Hudson is easily one of the best vocalist out there in the entire music industry.
Her voice definitely is miles away better since American Idol. She is so poised, excellent pitch and dynamics, comtrol, improvisation, and pure raw emotions. Thats why the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin' chose her to play her in her biopic before she passed.
This girl will snatch a song and make it all hers. Ask the Great Al Green.
Please review her performance of Al Green Simply Beautiful; Putple Rain, and her duet with Prince even Prince was blown away by her when they performed together in Chicago and she pushed Prince. I never heard him sing like that-he knew he couldnt play around with JHUD. Her voice is a presence all to its self. It just sits their and say im here dammit!

I watched that season of American Idol and isn't it wild that she didn't win? I knew when I saw Dreamgirls that she was going to win the Oscar. That performance was beyond great. So this is a really cool video because I'd never think to do someone like her because she's not 20th century. I actually have Dreamgirls DVD movie and the CD.

Jennifer has a beautiful soulful and powerful voice. Every time I hear her I get goosebumps. Yes she definitely is an old soul cause she pulls from the Mahalia Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle and it makes her stand out as a singer. She one of my favorite singers.

What a powerful voice she has! Aside from her talent, I think of Jennifer's stint as a coach on The Voice in the USA and the UK, the former on which Blake Shelton taunted her one time when she used her "J-Hud Productions" tagline to try to get a contestant on her team. Yesterday I watched a little "The Global of Voice" on UA-cam. Jennifer is on the jury. Funnily enough, you came to my mind today. I have your course here too. And now I see this video. I have developed a lot with my voice. Sometimes a few notes come out that are new to me, especially in the Belting area. It's been a long journey, and I have tears in my eyes again right now. Jennifer just sings amazingly. Everyone who has such voices has worked so hard.
Jennifer is one of the TOP singers for me. Whitney Houston as well.
Sad enough that she is no longer alive. If there is a chance, I would like to see Jennifer live one day.

When it comes to her I think about as a singing fool. she will sing at the drop of a hat. Love her on the Voice here and in the UK especially. love how she will get up and sing with contestants, don't see many other judges doing it, to easy to get embarrassed. If I was going to recommend some J Hud, I would say how about those impromptu performances she will have on the Voice. She did a fantastic job with Tom Jones doing It's a Man's World, short but incredible, same with When a Man loves a Women, she just has a chemistry with Tom Jones.
Like this things she does with Cordin, her Carpool Karaoke was great and so was her Drop the Mike, but that's not a lot of singing. Stick with the stuff from the Voice, unless you do that clip of her doing Adele.

Ok she is one of the what I call newbie greats. I have never heard her sing this song, wow I've been missing. Such a beautiful version of the song and you believe it the way she sings it. I can see why Denzel is emotional about it. The song itself evokes emotion and considering it was during civil rights. Sam Cooke would be proud for sure. I can listen to her voice for hours she is just so talented in her range. Beautiful piece.. Again, Ken you need to do your own version of the song!!!
Aretha Franklin herself chose Jennifer Hudson to do her biopic shortly after Jennifer won an Oscar for Dream Girls. I’m excited to watch that movie! It’s supposed to be released this year.
As far as I’m concerned J. Hud is Aretha’s musical heir. She’s the princess of soul!

Great job Ken. I just used your course for about one month before being diagnosed with vocal nodules (note that I've been using another popular SLS course for past three years). After my two full months of silence, began to work with your course and doing your exercises daily, without taking even one day off. It's been one month after that. I just feel more powerful, more in control, and having great vowel placements for crossing the passagios.
I wonder, why haven't you reacted to or analyzed any Josh Groban stuff? He's a great singer (in my opinion) and a lot of people see him as a meter for evaluating other vocalists. He's like a standard.
I hope we got one very soon.

It was a show of "Life Time Achievements, She sang A Change Gone Come as a tribute to his role as a slave in the movie Glory . He said to play the part where he was whipped, he prayed and asked all the spirits of slaves to help him make that one part of the movie come to life. He did that entire part in one take. I do believe he had emotions from that

I think she came in 3rd in American Idol comp. I was rooting for her then. She is also a good actress. Lots of charisma and a good heart. All comes through her belief in herself and her singing.
