Allyn, good video. I live in East Texas and our rainy season is opposite of yours. Our springs are wet, when the St. Aug roots get to grow deep. The summers are HOT & DRY, and thanks to the deep roots, they do okay until the fall, when the rains come again. I don't seem to have the yellowing problems, unless we get into a significant summer drought. BTW, we don't use irrigation systems here. That's for sissy grass.

Hey, Allyn. When I dig around my St. Aug, I like to put a plastic bag before I start digging. That way, I don't have to worry about getting my crass covered. I just pick up the bag and dump the dirt back in the hole. Mess free.

Totally off topic from this video but I have a question. I bought my house 2 years ago and there is an odd mixture of competing grasses in my lawn. So far I've identified a struggling st. Augustine, bermuda, and zoysia. My question is, with these three grasses in competition already can I set the stage for the zoysia to take over by way of caring for the lawn as if it were zoysia already and overseeding in the spring? Or should i take a torch to it, till and overseed sections with my prefered type in spring time? I'm in Mississippi in zone 8b just so you know, thanks!!

Dude - my St Aug is rough here in North TX. I threw er down like normal this year, but added 2 separate apps of the Summer Stress Blend after the smokin hot weather was over. Then for weed control I hit a blanket Image (safe for St Aug) app for nutsedge and also did pre-emergent same day. I think the Image did some DAMAGE or I burned it with too much N. Back that didn't get the extra fert or the Image is doing great. Cheers Al!

Hey man, by looking at your grass doesn't it seem that you have a serious case of thatch? you never made a video about dethatching. It something that you don't do?
I'm asking because my grass (kikuyu grass) also looks spongy so I bought a dethch rake, but when I tried to use it it just pulled all the grass and made a mess. How do you dethatch grass like St augustine, kikuyu, or any other that has stolons?

If you already applied disease control you just need to wait it out until the damage grows out.

I was let down with the controller Toro used. My Rachio controller and smart app is so nice to have, control anything about my irrigation from anywhere. Not having a smart app for a phone in 2020 seems lacking.

there is no wifi at that side of the track which is why we had to go with this solution. Once they get wifi, this setup can be attached to the cloud and an app.
