Such a talented guy Jaco Pastorius was! He is my hero, a legend and i want to be just like him, I can connect alot with his mental state, i am also trying my best to learn how top become just as good as Jaco Pastorius on bass, started learning bass by my self 7 months ago, then joined up with a music school to learn speed up the proccess by getting music theory knowledge i didnt have and to learn scales that i didnt know the pattern of which i feel has helped a lot, i think i've become quite good in 7 months and i believe in my self that i can become even twice as good as i am now the next 7 months as long as i keep the focus and keep practicing!
I'm trying to figure out how to solo on the chicken like Jaco, not like in the exact same way but like solo on it in general, and that's actually quite hard, as you have 8
bars on the Bb7 and 2 bars in Eb7 and just 1 bar on D7 and G7 and 3 bars on C7 before you bridge back and meet up with Bb7 again. So it's alot of crazy shifts that I find very hard to solo on and make it sounds cool, but i'm working on it!

First of all, thank you for the comment. Chicken solo is both easy and difficult. It's a shame that there are only a few versions of Jaco's chicken solo. In this lesson video, Jaco uses the pentatonic and the triad pattern.
When there is a Bb7 chord, minor pentatonic and Db major pentatonic are sometimes mixed together. you can use the pentatonic well to solo. But the reason it looks cool is because it takes the solo rhythm well.
If you have more freedom in the rhythmic part, you will definitely be able to do great solos. I will support you.👍👍

@@jacogrow Yeah I figured out the pentatonic scale sort of, not sure what a triad pattern is, maybe i know what it is but not knowing its called triad pattern :)
I try to do pentatonic to master it but it gets a little clustered when i just have 1 bar on D7 and one bar at G7. but im really working hard to figure out a solo i can set to it.
If you check out my youtube bass videos, you can see how im executing pentatonic, its a slight difference using minor and major but not like a biggie of a difference, the patterns are still going in the same direction :) also learning a advanced bepop scale that can only be used on shifts, that goes for instance from E string ( 5-6--8-9) and on A it goes 6-7-9-10 ) and on D it goes (7-8-10-11 ) and on the G ( 8-9-11-12 ) :)
When i have figured out how i want to set of in Jacos Chicken, then ill post it on youtube as one of those who did a Solo on the Chicken, and ofcourse not the same exact way jaco does it but to master that too would be fun, i have figured out sections of his solo already on what he is doing, and i got to say, man this man had an interesting brain for jazz :)
in the meantime while ii practice and figure out how im gonna perform the chicken, and i mean the whole song not just the solo part, ill post every now and then some other songs where i dont struggle to play around with pentatonic and dorian, i tend to sometimes mix tthat in with blues scale too as it just sounds right :)
If you wanna keep updated and be there for the day i release my version of the Chicken you can follow me if you like to so you will get notified the moment i upload to youtube :)

@@LeFingal I saw your video. Pentatonic scale practice on a Dorian backing track. My advice is that you rarely use your little finger. Using your little finger is very important and helps you play fast. Use your little finger when practicing scales. I hope.I look forward to your chicken and hope Jaco will always be with you.👍

@@jacogrow i know, i do use it too little and im trying to include my little finger more and more :) using my little finger on every section on the chicken tho so i'm working on including the little finger more because that is like you say, pretty important for playing fast. It has been in my focus lately to include the little finger 🙂 Thank you, i hope he will always be in my spirit.

I uploaded it to MuseScore. I wrote that score in MuseScore 2, but since I'm using version 4 now, there are some parts that are hard to see, but it's not a big problem. I hope you enjoy it.😀😀
