This is what it's all about! Building your car in your own garage by yourself, learning, making mistakes and moving on from the mistakes. Awesome video and story. Mad Respect!
Very nice, the history is the most heart warming part, have the same love affair with my Mk2 Sport, was my moms car, went to Matric dance with it , I bought it from her with my first pay check, 30years later and it's still in garage - priceless
The problem is that the top brass is posted out here from America. The one guy went on to be in charge of Mazda Japan, and it was him who pushed for the Mazda RX-8; another American, a woman, saved our bacon by getting South Africa contracted to build the Fiesta. ? Ford SA can build sedans for America? BMW is already building sedans for America for a long time!
Fair play to you my friend, impressive. I live in the uk, have owned 8 escorts, all Rs, mk1 and 2. Its a passion that grows on you. Well done for thinking outside the box with the mazda setup So many go down the cosworth route.
The Mazda FE motors are affordable and parts are more available for big power in SA. There are many tuners that put the Mazda FE into their race cars of all sorts for this reason. One legend has it that the Mazda motor is a copy of the Cosworth YB and some versions have forged internals.
I was just looking at my Escort rolling shell the other day and started thinking “Mazda engine would go nice in there”. Nice ride Pierre, and a good story to go with it.
Really love this video as I have a Ford Escort mk2 Auto ...it is also sentimental too me as it was the first car I got myself at 18 & my dad helped me restore her a few years before he passed away ...she’s currently getting her engine re-done ,can’t wait to be driving her soon
Brilliant video and what's its all about. Cars are part of our lives and this car is even more special as it has touched so many other lives. Truely SENTIMETAL! Let's share more of these stories as we are a car crazy nation!
Can it get any better? Keep your super cars this is what you need for a Adrenaline rush ! God I would love to build my own m2 escort they are so interchangeable it’s all about putting your own personal touch to your car and what an example this is !
I admire your passion with your mk2 Escort, I had an acquaintance of mine in Auckland whom modified a street Escort with a Jaguar driveshaft to stop the Ford one from breaking, thanks for the video 📹 my friend, and take care this Christmas 🎄 😀

Yoh guy I just found this now. For the life of me I remember that rear badge, my dad would always looked after his car he bought it ‘76 chrome top Kent motor. It’s been years since I seen it driving! Look after her!
Wonderfull job buddy, love Cape Town, lived and worked there for a few years! Do you know my buddy Warren Honeycombe from Snap-on? Cheers from Alex in Australia, Tasmania.
He needs a 4link on the rear to take away all of the tramping, I thought the exhaust was going to come off when he spun up the rears.i love the fact that the car is semi original but as a pure ford guy I don't like the mods ,a true fast ford has a specific sound to it and I hate turbocharged cars.

Je n'aime pas, ce n'est pas une Escort RS MK2 c'est vraiment de la tambouille, ça devrait être une interdiction absolue , peut être que ce Monsieur ne connais pas Cosworth

Silly BOY, Mine is a Ferrari, But i Fitted a 1300 OHV Escort Engine For Economy , Fuel Saving, & Currently Making Tuning Features to Run on 12 Volt Battery Power. But it still Has the Original Ferrari Badges & log Book . Extra Capacity to Carry up to 147 Duracell AAA batteries. on the Roof rack. WHAT A WASTE of a Good Escort Bodyshell. love this content. You can see his emotional attachment to the car. Wish more people had this much fun building cars and not just chasing huge power.
Great car, great video. That Escort is part of family history. Ford SA need to see this and change their mentality about the SA market.

Wow! Memories, man. My first car, in 1981, was a yellow Escort 1600 Sport. I loved that car... until it was stolen 😢
I am so sorry for your loss, remain friends with the Ford community 👌🌎🗽
Home grown. Can appreciate the owners passion for his car.

Pretty sure he's got a mazda Fe3 dohc motor found in the 626 and mx6 cars

Amazing.

Built... not bought...or leased...👌🏻
Why though? the Original ford kent engine is fucking ripe as hell for tuning, takes a helluva lot of power and has a Huuuuuuge aftermarket.
