I operated a Mk1 Escort BDA 2 litre that had 320 hp @ 10.5K and 900K weight and that thing was bloody awesome so what this beast must be like blows my mind
This escort model became popular in the Philippines in the 70's. I happen to have one back in high school that I used to street drag race. I missed this little beast
The Flying Scotsman loco is still green and numbered 4472 with a nameplate on the side, so its called The Flying Scotsman. Nobody is going to call this a Nissan 510 Bluebird or Opel Manta in all fairness
Somethings get better with age, this old escort is a perfect example of that. I wasn't a fan of the mk1 escort when this car was new, but it's a great looking classic compared to any of todays bland rubbish.
What a savage machine..... most hot hatches nowadays have that sort of power, but weigh at least twice as much lol !!!! I can only imagine what it must feel like to drive, so sharp, direct, raw...
I bet a eshlinger Lima would fit nice ....that block will hold 3 bar and is good for 1400 hp....I really want one of these, I want to make a violent, nasty street car from one of these😈😈
Brings back so many memories for me. I had a MK1 too but was running a Toyota 4AGE black top. It's a beautiful 20valve engine with ITBs. Missed that car so much. 😃👍🤘❤️❤️❤️❤️
Engine from an ex farmer, what is it with these Brits and top class engines? Cosworth, ilmore, judd and some others. More Millington grunt in those Mk2 escorts the Irish rally guys plant very sideways, well worth a watch and a watch.
Ufffff, want is high with this beast.Perfect in every way possible.Gerard is smooth and fast-perfect for such a machine. Thanks for detail shots as well.Always nice to see a car close-up as well.
My first car...escort gt hc 1.3 two door, the second another escort 1.1 and later on escort 1.3L 1983 ...it was from my father....yes i love ford...AND a friend of mine cortina 1.6 gt....
Duuuuuude!! All the Fab work on this😍, I love the header. Us Americans never got this over here but this would have ending up with a big block v8 in it some how . Our mustang has kinda ( Sept to 70's Mach one ) been a four cylinder car with a V8 in it. I could see one of these with a modern drive line.....I bet I could fit a coyote in this 😈...." No Rob, you'll destroy the balance!!!" Thank you for showing such a good example of what a small Ford does. I like to say.." Ford does three things very well, small cars , pick-up trucks and selling them both😏".
This is one sick 'bit o' kit' as they say across the pond! :) Just INSANE the craft and workmanship (AND coin!!) that went into that build, but well worth the results. ;)
It was really bright and sunny and couldnt get really good view of the oncoming road from the inside of the car, maybe if the cam had been placed in the middle on top of the dashboard facing out then it would have been really awesome watching & hearing the car accelerating & the engine tone, but all in all was a really nice vid and an amazing machine at that, ive always liked the early 80s Fords going from the Mk1 & 2 escorts, Mk1 & 2 Cortinas, Mk1 3.0 GT Capris & Mk 1 Anglia 105E even the Mk1 Fiesta XR2 was a favourite back in the days of Stormont Engineering in Beresford St Woolwich in South east London where i did my Motor vehicle training & hands on experience with these amazing cars.
Had to look up Millington Engines - bespoke 2.8 litre straight four. That has to be the biggest fourbanger in production since Porsche 944 and looks like 20,000GBP
Only once I've seen in my whole life n long before I'd heard it crashed before could join in big days. That back in the day in malaysia late 2002. Heavy modified.. hp unknown but it has winning streak unbeatable.
@@HillClimbMonsters same had done spyros papadopoulos before he build the m5 engine. cosworth mechanics came to greece back then and they couldn't believe how he made 420whp from an n/a 2.0 engine here is an article and the old engine www.greekdragster.com/images/present/20070310-PapadopoulosSpyros-MKII/index.htm and here is the old sound ua-cam.com/video/2Sa8Ki4U8UQ/v-deo.html i can send you more info if you like

For me they have always been and continue to be the most beautiful, MK1.
The profile and stance of this escort is pure ART
It is a beautifuly finished machine, that´s for sure ;)
I used to own a mk1 escort mexico in1973 and then a rs 2000 in1974.It was owned by me for 6 years before I sold it. Happy memories.
What a DRIVER!!! Respect.
He is working that little car. High level of experience.
I've always liked the escort mk 1
I like Escort Mk 3
This Car sounds beautiful; and the sequential transmission just makes this legendary piece of automotive history even more unique.
Mk1 Escort was my first car, it was a fantastic motor car and always remember it fondly. We just a 1.3 lt engine it was not quite a quick as this one.
This race car is hot awesome love it cheers KC Tasmania Australia
Cant go wrong with MK1 escort! ❣
Well it *looks* like an Escort - but there's nothing Escort about it...
The Flying Scotsman loco is still green and numbered 4472 with a nameplate on the side, so its called The Flying Scotsman. Nobody is going to call this a Nissan 510 Bluebird or Opel Manta in all fairness
Back in the day I owned and drove a 1970 Mk1 and a 1980 Mk2. Neither were anything like this beast!
I love reading the description of your videos before watching them. Very interesting to be informed on what I’m looking at
Somethings get better with age, this old escort is a perfect example of that.

Quite a big displacement for a 4cyl. Nice car!
Millington builds these engines in various displacements, with 2.9L being the largest. They are based on the Cosworth YB.
@@HillClimbMonsters So its a stroked YB? You can easely archived 400hp with a YB in his stock form. Maybe for flattening the powerband... Mmmmmh
I bet a eshlinger Lima would fit nice ....that block will hold 3 bar and is good for 1400 hp....I really want one of these, I want to make a violent, nasty street car from one of these😈😈
A 500 whp K24 from 4piston would be interesting if it could survive long enough for a hill climb
@@azypk turbo maybe, this is NA
3:25 opposite locks the car whilst waving out of the window - all in a days work !
Never have been much of a Ford fan, but hinestly I've alaays wanted a MKI Escort, and a classic Capri.
Sounds good...looks good, drives it hard as it will go and great camera angles. Enjoyed all 4mins. Cheers
I’m a simple guy, i saw Escort Mk1 video, I clicked and watch
Gorgeous Car and a Damn Fine Driver. Escort Mk 1, best car Ford ever built.
Brings back so many memories for me. I had a MK1 too but was running a Toyota 4AGE black top. It's a beautiful 20valve engine with ITBs. Missed that car so much. 😃👍🤘❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oh the 4age Blacktop was a ripper engine, loved the sound. A mate had one in his AW11 Mr2
Perfect setup
BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF EQUIPMENT,
I wish I had a Ford Escort MK1
I love the Mark 1 - such a pretty car and so iconic for me anyhow.
370 HP on 750 kilograms would be real scary.
"Is" real scary ;) This machine is still racing to this day...
I used to own a BMW e31 with a 2.5 litre 6 cylinder worked heads. It was my hill climb monster. 960kg 250hp 4 speed rwd was super terrifying to drive.
These Escorts mk1 are so good looking 👍
Same power to weight as a 600cc race replica motorbike. Lovely, get the skills like this guy & respect, not fear it👍🏻

More to come from now on ;)
@@HillClimbMonsters sounds great!
Allo my friend all the best luck for you i like The style of your driving with a fast car like this wonderful Machine from Carlos Portugal
I have a very fast car but this beast has roughly twice the thrust to weight ratio of mine. The acceleration must be brutal!
What a great car and a good driver. That car must be worth a small fortune.
2.8 L is that correct? Seems very big for that block?
Bootiful! Had 3 of these in the past. Obviously not quite set up as well. Beautiful car!

What an utterly stunning build!
Most dangerous form of motorsport, surely. Drivers are super impressive - looks utterly terrifying.
Even in standard form the best looking escort ever
Love this car , beautiful.
FANTASTIC! So clean and smooth
this and Baby Blue have to be in my top 5 cars ever
That car is my absolute fav since I was a young boy ..
What a great car , very well sorted ,looks a bit like the uk one that has the small v8 in it made of two motor bike engines :) good vid :)
It does, because the bodywork/chassis are made by the same company ;)
Carbon fibre roll cage.....I would love to know how much this build cost 🤣
Excellent pilotage 👍😊
Long live the MK1!!!
What a stunning machine 😍
Like watching my first car, a red Ford Escort Mk.1 equipped with roll cage and a mighty 1.3l engine, bought in 1996.
That looks like sooooooooo much fun. Scary, but fun.
This just looks dope man, beautiful job all round. I know a few people who would love this video.
BMW’s No thanks this Escort please Excellent video guys thanks 👍
Millington make some great engines

Such a good looking vehicle the mk1 escort
Front and rear bumpers back on and it's perfect, imho.
I Wish there was a game where you could build these kind of insane hillclimb/timeattack monsters!
Now that´s a proper idea... and one we work to make true one day ;)
Had to look up Millington Engines - bespoke 2.8 litre straight four. That has to be the biggest fourbanger in production since Porsche 944 and looks like 20,000GBP
2,8 4 Zyl. Wow !! Great Escort !!
nice to see an irish car and driver making an appearance
It´s not the first time Mr. O´Connell is featured on our channel ;)
WoW how much I miss myFord escort Mark one then were the days🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🤟
Hang on for dear life. Very cool and not just a little bit groovy as well.
The best looking car ever

Would love to see underneath, the carbon rear diffuser is not for show look where the exhaust exits so not to disturb the airflow.
Totally thought the birds in the first second of the video were turbo flutter
I owned a Mk1 Escort Mexico in 1982, but i think i might have struggled to keep up with this monster 😊
Had my driving test at 17 in a new Ford Escort Mk1. Didn't seem as quick as that one though.
That is beautiful 😍
Seems like quite a handful to drive.
You misspelled "fun" 😅
@@HillClimbMonsters lol.....thanks for the awesome content, you are a legend.
Thing of beauty.
Coolest car I’ve ever seen

wtf 2.8 litre 4 bangers 370hp what a beauty.
Sen bloody sational.
Need this on the road in England, I'll sacrifice a little speed for a plush interior with rear seats 😄
These are such cool cars, can you still buys the chassis's new.. so much more fun than the modern stuff
i believe the exhaust manifold by the shape takes advantage of every single gas to produce the power
Well, it is a specially built Race Engine, not a road going modified one ;)

My first motor was a Mk1. Back in 1979.
Its a very tail happy car!
We called it puttin it sideways apoarently now its drifting if its a nissan 🤣🤣🤮
Music to my ears!
SHP are today what Maguire was yrs ago .Foremost in making hot saloons.
Should let Frank Kelly take it for a spin.. ;-)
Pity Colin McRae wasn't around still (RIP) I'm sure he'd have loved to have given it a good thrash!
wow, excellent plus millington !
That sounds beautiful
I think this is one of the first times I’ve seen a carbon fiber roll cage. How do they weld it tg?? They should produce glass in space (on the moon) for these purposes
Glass produced without the presence of oxygen is 10x’s stronger than any steel and a fraction of the weight
Awesome driving... a legend of a car..
Awesome skills
Nice
Incredible.
Definitely NOT the Ford Escort I drove. Damn!
In fact it’s unrecognizable. We’re these bodies custom made for Rally/Hill climbing only?
