Had a Lotus twincam Mark 1 in the late 70s. The absolute best time of my life. That car could do stuff I didn’t think was possible as a second year apprentice. It also couldn’t possibly be as good as my memory would suggest.😄

I wish they would all start making retro style cars, I would love this good old cars with a way more recent suspension and way better fuel efficiency engine in them.
I really love the simple racing like interiors which nowadays cars look like made for pussies full of chrome plastics inside and shitty crazy extreme spaceship like style, I love those old simple MAN style cars with the nice simple interiors and I specially hate LCD speedometers gosh I hate my motorcycle LCD. There's always a good sensation in seeing an actual needle moving not god damn bars, digital numbers and shit like that...
I would chose a modern Dodge Charger retro style looking exactly like the 1969 one but just lighter with better handling and a modern fuel efficiency motor in it and the interior instead of wood just black leather everywhere without much fancy crap, but I totally also love Ford MK1\MK2, 80's BMW's and many many other cars, I don't like much modern BMW's for example but loved the 80's ones, whish they made another BMW E30 M3 modern with that retro style just slightly modernized...

@stephen john gray I don't think the mk1 Escort would be too bad enlarged, it always had big car looks anyway. That was the best thing about small cars like that, now it's the opposite - big cars that look like inflated small ones (e.g. Nissan Juke).

I do not think only the set-up of the car, I think it's a question of talent of the driver... really great skills.
Generally, northern Europeans drivers are the better at it, because they're used to driving on ice, and have an instinctive talent like few others (I don't know where Gonon is, I think French or Swiss, not from northen Europe).
Then, I agree with you: it must be said that, every time I saw on racing that model of Escort - and maybe the one just newer - it seemed, how it behaves, a car very "easy" to drive and well balanced, equal or second only to the Kadett C Coupe.
Loose is fast, on the edge of out of control. Loose in this case I mean compliant, and under control.

Lovely classic old car! I remember a friend of mine had one in the 80s he tuned up, high lift cams, side draught carbs, etc. We used to go slide it around, great fun.

I'll bet a fiver that this Escort could beat any WRC Fiesta in the same stage. New cars are too stiff, too low. Superb use of weight transfer & compliant suspension soaking up the bumps in the road.

thats how I like my setup-- not anywhere close to drifting, but where you can power-oversteer to tighten your line or do the same thing with trail braking, always keeping the rear wiggling a bit. It's not the best for door to door racing but for something like this or an autocross its hella fun. Though he does overdo a couple of the fishtails as far as low time is concerned., and once he gets to the wet parts things get real sloppy.

This is my dream car. This and 2 more cars are my number one favourites. (Ford escort mk1, opel Kadett c 1974 2 door sedan, opel manta 1978). This car looks both innocent and evil at the same time. If you tune well an escort mk1, you can SMOKE the evos and Vape the subarus on the rally stage
