- Hello & welcome to a new episode, Now then, This has to be up there with the best, When was the last time you saw a MG Turbo Tickford conversion, This car is 1 of only 505 aston martin tickfords every built, Now when they were first created they didn't actually sell like hot cakes, Many of them sat around collecting dust, Fast forward to today, These cars are steadily increasing in value, and are quite the sort after thing, If you have one hide it haha, someone will certainly be coming to try and buy it,
The one we have featured isn't currently for sale, in fact the chap wants a full engine rebuild, So there may or may not be a part two, Besure to keep an eye out,

Brilliant video as always Stu. I am very lucky and fortunate enough to be able to say that I do infact own 2 MG Maestro Tickford Turbo's and 2 MG Montego Turbo's! We have one of the biggest private family car collections in the South West UK and it was all started by my late father all the way back in 1975!!!
A nice white 220gsiturbo would fit in to that collection quite nicely....

In 1989 to 1992 I was a apprentice at BMG Milton Keynes many years ago as a panel beater.
I know 2 of these rare diamonds have been written off think 1 red 1 white.
I actually repaired 1 that was stolen recovered.
But I remember saying these was so much faster than a Escort Turbo and Cosworth
I did try buying the 2 write-offs but they sadly got scrapped.
Sick to think about it now 😢
But what Austin Rover failed on was simply rust and electrical problems.
They never wax oil'd the new cars in factory the PDI people we're left to do it.
And I can remember they was so busy most never got any.
I can remember a 1 Yr old metro coming back in under warranty and you'd thought it was 10 Yr old.
Think people just lost faith in the life of the bodywork.
If it wasn't for the mini being so popular Austin would have been closed years before it did.
But wax oil was the main factor.

The BMG site is still open not sure what name it's under now.
Brings back memory’s my mate had the MG Turbo I had the older 1600 MG twin carb version with the old digital talking dash.
Had a 1.6 EFi in metallic mint green when I was 19 and I loved that thing. I put a K&N filter on it and remember thinking I was the dogs bollocks..happy days. Thanks for your time and effort stu😍😍😍👌🏻
1.6 R and S series engines in the Maestro always came with carb... Must have been a 2.0 EFi model ?
It was definitely a 1.6, and had an EFi sticker (in red) on the boot. Being 19 I didn’t know what to look for under the bonnet... my memories have been tainted now😔..🤦🏻♂️🤣
@@martycrush6412 As far as I know the fuel injected 1.6 S series engine only ever came in the Honda based boxy Rover 216 VDP and Vitesse (1984 - 1990) - The O series 2.0 was the only fuel injected engine offered in the Maestro & Montego.

I always had a soft spot for these cars. i owned an early MG Maestro 1600 "R" series in red. I had a Pipercross air filter over the the twin webber carbs which made it loud! Hot restarts were a nightmare and it was always going wrong but i loved it.

My pride and joy was a MG Metro in red sent it to mini sprint and had cams and pistons 1430cc 18inch Woolf race wheels what a car 😅

I had one of these, it brings back so many good memories. Sold it to a guy in Manchester who was going to put in a bigger engine. so in effect - destroy its originality. I wish i had the money then to restore and rebuild - but i was young and kids appeared....

Sweet motor, hopefully the sills and metalwork that is covered by body kit is pretty sound. Speaking of sound, that Zaustt coupled with that engine, I bet when shes on song shes got an awesome sound to her.

Stokzie, you do know how to bring the memories coming back, back in the mid 80's I had a tickford capri and my brother had an MG turbo Montego, My brothers MG was stolen, the police weren't over interested so he asked me if I could find it. Anyway cut a long story short I found it parked up in Selly oak and stole it back, Keep up the good finds and vids
I had a silver MG (non turbo) Maestro in the late 90s and loved it. Thought it was quite quick (for it’s day) until my dad bought a Maestro Turbo 😮

Through the English barracks here in Germany, you could also see one or two rare English cars here. This MG model ( not this Turbo Version!) hit my father on the back of our Mercedes in the early 90s! It was the wife of an English soldier who couldn't stop crying with the grille of these MG under her arm. The German police were able to calm her down, but unfortunately her husband was on deployment in Iraq-War at the time.
But this model as a limited Turbo would be here an eye-catcher at a classic car meeting!

That is a rare mg as them used to rust and rot and nearly all been scraped years ago I had a metro turbo which was fast but that rotten so I put the engine in a mini (fast but death trap) fair play to the bloke to be keeping it hopefully he will get it back on the road but being a tickford conversion be worth some money bet that be still quick sounds nice with that performance exhaust looks like he looked after it before he parked it up in the garage away from the damp which has saved it being rust bucket another good find keep up the good stu have a good Christmas and new year mate ⛄🥳🍻
True mate. I never want to put a downer on it but I was there at the time and owned Austin Rovers. And unless you kept it in a garage and only drove it when you had to they rusted. The interiors were often poorly fitted. Electronics not good. But.....when you got a good one they were great. I even saw an old guy recently driving a beige Maestro probably a 1.3. Cheers.

My Dad had a white one back in the 90s, 20lt EFI Turbo, proper quick but his SRI 130 was alot better.

Looking at the certificate with the car there is only 49 Black ones built of the Tickford edition wow very rare car there, amazing what cars you come across.

Had a Nissan Bluebird ZX Turbo back in the day and thought it was quick until I got smoked by a Maestro Turbo at the traffic light grand prix! 😂

It's not only rare because only 505 were built but with only 49 in black and this just one of a handful in that colour left. I know of 103 G289VCN in black near me and sometimes see it in Summer and other than having MGF alloys it's completely stock. It's been well used over the years as it's done 147k and still going strong. Never did i see a Maestro become desirable as back in the day many berated them and practically a throw away car like many others back then. I do know the reg but won't give it out.
Brilliat vid stu love mg metros had two when i was younger brought it for 50 quid in blue but wasnt a turbo one tho also had monty clubman estate and my next door had the red meastro love mgs carnt beat them top job

@andycook5607 For sure, would love to see the future of these saved motors. I had a lovely red/black MG Metty turbo, would love that now. Same as the MG Montego estate I had, was a proper bus 👌 How often do you see an MG Montego estate on the road? I paid a whopping £100 for it, sold on for £300!
Yes with the E30 out of the WB and Sons Auction, but Nathan decided not to sell the Cossy, but to restore it himself. Maybe it'll reappear on another video 👍
Nostalgic video Stu. My parents owned a flame red 2.0i MG Maestro in the early 90’s. (Reg G751JOV) It was my Dads pride and joy. I’ll never forget the noise it made when accelerating! I recall the steering wheel literally came loose when my mum was luckily only parking! 😬 Unfortunately it was stolen and was never seen again. The police found the radio in Reading! The black maestro Turbos are the ultra rare ones as they only made 49 black cars.
Had me an mg turbo metro as my first high performance car it was a blast I'd love to know what happened to it I put piper crossflow highlight cams, it went like sh*T off a shovel

Best thing about these was trying to turn it off, almost an impossible task.
On a reg check this mg comes us as black don’t believe that’s ont been started in 3 years ran too smooth for the first time in over 3 years 😂😂 but nice car
Is that a genuine tickford?! It looks pretty standard to me and being as tickford is Aston Martin I would have thought that the seats would be leather and a body kit fitted and why is the owner putting his thumb on the numberplate in the photos?.
All old cars was better than cars of today better built stronger an more reliable defo easier to fix

I’m picking up my Enfield Himalayan,My Xmas present to myself ,
I think that's where Stu dumped the motors so they weren't found. Up near were I lived, a back road that went on for miles like a rally stage was often used and when the drivers got bored, they'd either burn them out, or push them over the edge whilst burning, you could go up there weekly and find new cars abandoned. I remember going up one day and bumping into the owner of a beautiful bright red BMW that was less than 6 months old. He was in tears the poor fella. Somehow his car hadn't caught light and only had fire damage in the boot. Written off of course, but the bottom of the cliff was home to many a 80/90s car.
