I thought I would know, how to do a beachstart, but turns out, the small details you mention make a great difference. Thank you for your superb explanation
Thank you very much Gwen. I've just successfully completed my first beachstarts thanks to your tutorial, which is really excellent and progressive. I've seen a lot of tutorials to try and get the hang of it, but yours is definitely the best by far. Bravo for what you do.
@@AdamsHadEnough 4 sessions of 1 hour each; the 4th time, 3 successful beachstarts out of around 12 starts; I knew how to pump beforehand, starting from a pontoon.
Absolutely incredible video tutorial. Bravo! I never thought I’d be looking forward to calm weather 😂 Many thanks for unlocking new possibilities -Stuart
Thanks Gwen. I was starting to get some beach starts by watching your videos and help from some others on the Dockstart group. Gonna go through the steps in this video to ensure I progress in the best and safest way. Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video. This is gonna help so many of us learn this tough skill while avoiding injury as much as possible. As you said in the video, learning this skill the right way will make it easier to progress to smaller foils, and use locations with different terrain and condtions.
You are so welcome. Did a session following all your steps this morning. Already feeling more confident practicing without fear of injury. Gave myself a nasty cut last week practicing in a different way. Really believe this video is gonna unlock this skill for many, and more importantly keep people from hurting themselves. So big props to you!!
Thank you so much an other Time to you Gwen and to Damien for your amazing tuto. You Promise us this beachstart sticker and you kept your promise. So Kool 💪👍
Really great work on this one. I've failed to learn to beach start several times - watching the video I can immediately tell that my running technique was totally wrong. The hop run and explanation looks like exactly what I need to make some progress! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Salut Gwen! Next step: making turns in the wave.
Thank you so much. I got my first beach start with your help. It's so fun with a lot of possibilities. So tkank you 👍👍👍. If you have enough sticker i will be very happy to have one 😉. Thk u one more time
Excellent instruction and tips, thank you! One tip that I found extremely helpful for many reasons is to keep your chest centered above the board as you get on it and start riding. I feel like that’s also a key position anytime you get on foil to keep your balance and is a tip I will definitely share. You mentioned bruises on your knees as you learn, but you didn’t talk about your feet hitting the foil or tail. I imagine it only takes once, but do any of your students struggle with kicking any part of the foil while learning?
If you follow the instruction on the hop technique demonstrated, your feet should always be clear of the foil, as the front wing is quite forward of your feet
IMO the best beach start how to video there is. Thank you very much for all the hard work making this fantastic video. I’m certain this is the best video with every detail and nothing left out. Gwen, you are an incredible athlete - good for you! One question. Have any 67 year old or older men been able to do a beach start well?
Hey Gwen - I feel like I'm making good progress with this thanks to your video. I have the hops dialled and can get the back foot drill pretty well. I am finding that I tend to spin off to the side I launch from. Do you have any advice about where to position your hands on the board during the running phase in relation to the sides of the board
Super informative video, many thanks. Question: I own a 2023 4’3” Logic with a 650 H series foil,l and 95 cm mast, obviously not a good setup for pump foiling. I have the chance to buy a second hand X series 1650 foil with a 80 cm carbon mast. Would this setup work to learn and progress in pump foiling, or should I look for a more dedicated combo? Thank you
Quand la mer est plate, ma course est presque parallèle à la plage. Mais on a souvent une bonne marche qui fait un décroché, je trouve cela assez pratique.
Thank you Gwen for this tutorial. It is very helpful. I just tried last weekend to do a beach start for the first time, but I was lost about how to do it. Now it seems to be doable also for me 🙂 I'm only not sure if my 1950 cm2 foil is big enough for my 88 kg for the beginning? I can already start 10/10 dockstarts from different docs with my 1950 foil. What do you think?
What do you think about a cabrinha special agent as a starter board for pump foiling/ swell riding… my only concern is the float ability, will it be pretty much sinking if i bail? And impossible to get back up in the water.
The Cabrinha Special Agent is great, it doesn't sink, but it won't float you when swimming back. When I use and fall out there, I swim next to it and get back to shore: ua-cam.com/video/UAfZJ8MHsi4/v-deo.html wingfoilprocenter.com/products/special-agent-mkii?_pos=1&_psq=special&_ss=e&_v=1.0

Great explanation Gwen!! C'est génial ! Merci ! I did assume that we would see Damien doing it at the end! As a proof of the concept :)

Great tutorial, for how long is it realistic to pump, 1 minute, 5 or more?
Great tutorial! I am not sure if I missed it or not, but I'm scared of kicking my feet into the foils while running.. is there some tips for this?
Practice the hop technique we show in the video, the foil is quite ahead of your feet so no contact with the foil with this technique
@@DamienLeroyUA-cam awsome. Excited about this hopping technique
@@powis-tv8ln I had the same fears but had no troubles following Gwen's technique.

The 1650 X series with 80 cm mast would be a decent combo so if it's a good deal you should go for it!
Very nice breakdown. Would love to try this. How much do the kits cost ?

Quand la mer est plate, ma course est presque parallèle à la plage. Mais on a souvent une bonne marche qui fait un décroché, je trouve cela assez pratique.
It almost looks like the "one step drop" with the skimboard
Do you think this technique helps ?

If I’m looking to do mostly flat water and no wind and just riding random small swells would it be better to go up to the Leviathan 1550 or 1750?
1750 is definitely not an easy foil to ride because of the wing span. 1550 is you are 200 lbs and over, otherwise 1350 is great for flat water pumping
it will be funny and interesting a video of you beach starting in a smaller foil like 1300cm² (or something usual for wing foil) 😁

would you recommend 60 or 68 cm mast for beach start?
cus axis only has this two length
60cm will be easier to learn for sure
Damien thank'you for the show .
But To running near the foil not easy
J try in the beatch start boat
Merci damien
You can do it, was a challenge at first but practice makes perfect! It gets easier....
Can you start like this being a beginner???
Knowing how to foil is definitely recommended I would say
🤙🤙🤙
Do you ever accidentally kick/ trip on the front foil?
If you follow the hop technique described in this video, your feet should be clear, but in the learning process when you do it wrong it can happen for sure
what the size of the mast?
In this video, we used a 65cm Cabrinha mast and a 73cm SabFoil mast
@@DamienLeroyUA-cam a 85cm mast is a terrible option to train beachstart? I dont have another option yet
85 is quite a bit harder for sure, but doable
