- Colin Crompton, as "Mr Chairman" from Granada TVs Wheeltappers & Shunters Social Club, performs at the Wheeltappers Coach Trip to the Layton Institute, Blackpool.
Originally broadcast 40 years ago to the day of this upload, by a sad coincidence, it's also 29 years to the day this very talented man passed away :(
Great times in the 70's great comedians , total legend , so missed .
Back in the days when entertainment was just that - entertainment. Gone forever.
When comedy was exactly that. Brilliant.
Love seeing Colin again....remember him so vividly from when i was a little lad and how funny he was.
A lovely bit of old fashion humour. Now sadly gone with the wind. 😊 😷
This is so funny I remember watching it when I was young I'm 56 now 🤣 😂
need shows like this now,!!!!
And now
And now
And now
What a talent .....and so versatile.
Colin Crompton (a top rate comedian in his own right) seen here in the role of his alter ego .. mine host of the infamous "Wheel tappers and shunters social club".
Frank Skinner owns a time machine.
That was it in the 70s....that was the height of comedy in the clubs.....
Great George Formby impression lol
Colin Crompton looks like Frank Skinner. According to form I said this 5 years ago...
Fantastic comedian, taken from us too soon
Top, top quality
Legend.
classic!
Genius
Yeah, Colin should spread some jam on them shoes, and invite his trousers down for tea.
Great drumming!!
Members of the committee..
I'm here because of Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds =D
Same lol
great zz
Crompy looks like Munch from Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps
Did this world of social clubs actually exist back in Britain of the 1970s? It looks so alien to me, but it must be a British culture thing.
Yes..!!..Most big towns especially in the North had these types of clubs..!!
Oh yes. This is quintessential 70s!😂
This man was a walking volcano, he smoked like 60 a day.
That's why he died young of cancer
A lot of these men lived appalling lifestyles. Colin survived on smokes and scotch but barely ate while Bernard packed those in but continued to eat like warthog until he got diabetes and all his organs began to shut down. Got to 77 but was truly banjaxed…..
Its Frank Skinner's Dad ;-)
especially 4:22
colin crompton what a pain in the arse laugh i never started ffs
He was a bank manager in his spare time! 😂
Not surprised he died of lung cancer in his early 50s, he never had a cigarette out of his hand/mouth. - prop or not.
what was funny about colin crompton F ALL
Bernard Manning not fit to clean Colin Cromptons shoes IMHO.
total idiot
Left wing liberals wouldn't last 10 mins ..comedy gold
My Dad used to watch this. I was eleven. It grossed me out…I hated it. However, having just remembered it and looked this up, now several decades later, I see the humour and caricature. The vileness of all that stale beer and cloying smoke, fat cackling grannies and stinky guffawing old men squeezed into a small darkened holding pen. That immensely irritating fire bell thing and even more irritating pretend common accent laid on thick by Colin as he chewed through that ‘On behalf of the committeeeee’ catch phrase. It is a deliberate parody of the old union culture and working mens clubs, but the mockery is gentle and it provided an early starter opportunity for new acts to get noticed. The jokes are typical of British understatement and self effacement and the George Formby skit was well done in his style. I think I might watch another one…..
About as funny as herpes
well said thyst 1997
