- The late great comedian Ken Goodwin. Another selection of highlights from the popular 70's comedian. Watch out for Ken's tribute to George Formby as he plays the ukulele and sings 'Leaning on a Lamp Post'.
When comedy was funny, Saturday nights worth watching
Ken was a genius
He stopped work to look after his wife
Ken's timing was brilliant.
Rest In Peace old lad. 💐
Brilliant! Please please bring this humour back.
I was only a kid when Ken Goodwin was on TV and I used to love him.
me too 70
I saw Ken perform on a cruise ship once. A wonderful comedian with no smut or swearing, a really lovely, gentle, approachable man.....they don't make them like this any more....more's the pity.
Allan Hawkes very sadly missed Allan 😧
Agreed. Sadly, gentlemen are almost extinct these days and society is worse off for it
I loved him. What a comic!
He’s brilliant
facial expressions, timing, that contagious laugh, accent - he had it all...pure genius. Ken,,you will be sadly missed.
Best ever.r.i.p.
@@johnskeffington5754 His mannerisms just kill me. Frank Spencer's mannerisms were good too but Ken Goodwin seems a lot more natural.
I remember me and my dad, god bless him, laughing our heads off at Ken. Proper, no smut, just fun, comedian.
I recommended Ken Goodwin to my 22 year old son and he thought his act was hilarious! It just goes show that true comedy is timeless. This bloke is on fire .
Such a funny man , he mastered the "child-like" delivery and the little asides like
" were having a good time aren't we " and " we'll all have belly ache wont we" were
a touch of genius.
When he told that heckler, shut your gob you, and followed it up with, "that told him didn't it?" was the funniest way to deal with a heckler that I've ever heard. Brilliant.
I worked on a villa a few doors away from Ken's in the early 2000s.
I could hear him rehearsing his act... Made me laugh a lot even though I didn't know who he was at the time.
I loved this man. I don't care how dated this is, it was funny at the time, and made me laugh to watch again ❤️
We're Avin a gud time aren't we
you are too young to remember this :)
Agree.100% 😀
Brilliant. I don’t think there’s anyone or anything else that made 7 year old me laugh and is still able to do so.
@@f0urstr1ng fact!
I enjoyed it so much, laughing at simple things, wonderful.
These acts were masters of their trade. They had come up the hard way playing the working men's clubs and theatres. Ken Goodwin is just plain daft...honest to goodness daftness...nothing nasty and with perfect timing. Wonderful stuff. They will be greatly missed.
Worked with ATV Network Ltd in the 1970's and we did that Royal Command at the Palladium in 1971. He was brilliant then and he is equally as funny now. Seems so sad that he died after not going on to the fame and fortune of the other northern comedians. I returned home to NZ and still tell others of his utter talent. You made us laugh Ken and that was a talent to be admired.
Russell Garbutt he was a great comedian Russell not see his like again 😧so sad 😧
My dad used to have a band in the 60s 70s and 80s and once backed Ken, said he was a great bloke very funny and genuine
how can any person seriously dislike this
Todays students would, dont worry. They think breathing is offensive!
Probably my favourite comedian of all time 😊
I used to watch the Comedians hoping that Ken Goodwin would be on. My stomach used to ache from laughing at him. He was brilliant.
I used to like him, when he said I have to tell you this one cos I haven't heard it my self yet .Just brilliant comedy
In 1974, I and my then wife, went to see Ken Goodwin and Mike Reid, of Eastenders fame, at Skegness. She wore a white crocheted trouser suit. As it was so see through, she wore a white bikini underneath it instead of bra pants. We sat in the middle of the front row. Ken was on first and he couldn’t take his eyes off her outfit.
When he left the stage after his act, he must have said something to Mike Reid about her. As he was just about launch into a joke, whilst looking at my wife, he said in his coarse Estuary English accent, “I do believe I can see your knickers”
I called back, “You should be so lucky”. He said, “You what”? I said again, “You should be so lucky”. He then said, “What we doing, a double act or something”? I replied, “You couldn’t afford me”. That shut him up!
What a really lovely man he was.Shared dressing room with him in 1970 at Leeds varieties for Ace Of Clubs talent show on BBC TV.He should have won!
I first saw Ken Goodwin about 40 years ago at our local Hotel and Country Club, he was the Cabaret and no-one had heard of him and by the time he finished he was the toast of the place. He had everyone convulsed with laughter and people who were going past the window to go to their rooms came in to see what was going on and stayed because he was HILARIOUS and ill with laughter, he was suppoesd to last an hour but no-one would let him go and he stayed for TWO hours!
The best.
He was simply the best God bless him
Brilliant
Now that`s talent! He was miles ahead of todays comedians and what a uke player
Ken will always be rebreed for his great clean humour for families to enjoy.
"I'm too good for this place aren't I?" Great stuff. RIP Ken.
Wow you must be an absolute dream going out with your mates,, probably not but good luck you sad man
God bless you Ken. A true gifted legend. I'll always have the memories of watching Wheel Tappers and Shunters club.
You give me belly ache always the greatest ever. Thank you I will cherish the moments. Watching now in tears with laughter.
Every comedian is a funny man when his jokes compliment family viewing.
Allways come on here to listen to ken when I’m feeling low cheers me up no end miss u ken
I recognised Ken’s name but can not remember seeing him when I was a kid watching the comedians. Recently came across some of Ken’s videos and have been in raptures of laughter. His timing is spot on and so so funny. Absolutely love it.
This man found the key to everyone's funny bone. Brilliant. Never had the pleasure of meeting him but got the strong impression he was a very nice man indeed. God bless you Ken. Never bettered, especially by the later crap, vulgar "comedians" who had no idea.
One of the very best comics of all time.
This guy has such a lovely, jolly delivery style - I think he’s fantastic
The objective of a comic is to make people laugh, no one ever did this as good as Ken Goodwin, quite simply the greatest comic of all time.
I saw him 40 years ago in cabaret he was sensational, i had to go to another room for a rest i was seriously in pain from laughing uncontrollably.
There has been and still are some great comics but Ken was supreme.
RIP Ken you were the Muhammad Ali of comedy
HERE HERE And sad to hear that Ken has gone on RIP Ken you always had me in hysterics I certainly put him next to my other HERO born Cassius Clay
@@peterwood-jenkins3634 Hear Hear not HERE HERE. And why are you insulting the late great Muhammad Ali? If he was your hero then call him by the name that he wished to be called ! ( Why didn't he get a RIP from you? ) Ernie Terrell took a beating for calling him Cassius Clay!
Oh by the way...well done for replying to a 5 year old comment!
That's as funny as Ken Goodwin.😂😂
@Bengt Handlebars
Yes we all know that so what's your point?
I said Muhammud Ali was the name he chose to be known by.
@@CB-xr1eg Gasius Casius was a cowardly draft dodger unlike Elvis who served his country..a real hero!
@@routmaster38 Ok mate.
love it! how refreshing to not hear the literate "comedy" of so many today where every 2nd word us F**k etc because they just dont seem to be able to put more than two words together without foul language. Thank you for posting this!
oh yes Bernard Manning comes to mind a Stag Comic who could not sing either
Loved this guy, too young to go and see him but watched The Comedians with my Dad and laughed my socks off! Consumate Uke player too!
Thank God For Utube that allows us to watch this talented Gent when ever we wish, In my case that is so so often, I guess its a sell out every night of the year upabove Ken , A star was born in you .Your memory will never die. Thanks for so many years of laughter x
True genius, better than the so called comedians of today,, they're not fit to Lace this genius boots,, very funny, sorely missed,,
Fantastic performer we saw Ken many times and he was well loved by everyone .Still is. God Bless All
+fandabydozy Thank you, I saw him for the first time when no-one new who he was in the late Sixties at our Country Club. He started talking and EVERYONE was in stitches, people who were outside had to come in to see what all the noise was about and stayed and in the end he was on an hour more than he should have because everyone wouldn't let him go.
*See, unlike Freddie Starr and many others of that era, Ken Goodwin was a true gentleman, and a wonderfully caring man away from the cameras and the limelight. Ken Goodwin was the proof that as a comedian in the 1970's, you didn't need to be blue, smutty, sexist or racist.*
*Despite his (desperately) sad upbringing, where his mother walked out on the family when he was just six-years-old, and his father died of cancer when Ken was still only 15, his one ambition in life was simply to put a smile on peoples faces. It didn't matter to Ken whether they were a paying audience member, a miner he'd pass by on his way home from the pit, or one of the ladies on the checkout at his local Co-op. He had a polite, and often very funny word to share with everyone.*
*People wonder why Ken Goodwin **_disappeared_** so relatively early on in his comedy and music career. Again, the reason tells you something about the man. He married his wife (Patricia) in 1956 when they were both 23-years-old, though as Patricia used to say, they'd **_"flirted with each other for nearly five years before that!_** But sadly, just as Ken was making headway with his own TV show and regular appearances all over the country, Patricia fell seriously ill in 1974. And without thinking about his own career for a split-second, Ken announced his retirement from show business, in order to be Patricia's full-time carer at home in the little bungalow they'd bought on the coast of North Wales.*
Thanks for that info! Very interesting. What a gent, hope he lived a happy life in doing so!
They was the best days charlie.willams another great 👍 memory will always stay
Sitting here this morning watching this with tears from laughing! Loved him in his day, but finding this on here has just made my day!! WIsh there were comedians like this around now! I am old, but this has made me feel young again!!
Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant. We need more laughter in our lives
OMG 4 got how great he was, thanks 4 this R.I.P. Ken you will have them laughing up above
his act was simple, he didn't need to swear I never heard him swear, he had the audience in stitches from start to finish, and boy I never knew that he was a Formby fan and could play the ukulele like that, I would say that he was as good as Fomby on it, Sad to hear of his passing in Wales in 2012
Joseph Parkes ? ,. .
Sorry, but not in the same league as Formby on the Uke. There’s a good documentary by Frank Skinner on George Formby, he demonstrates why George is still seen as one of the world’s greatest players.
I never knew he did the George Formby stuff. Brilliant
Really enjoyed that, almost forgotten about Ken, he was fabulous - Thanks for posting
Superb right up to the point he did the George Formby grill impression 😂😂
what a real down to earth man ken is, such a great act, miles better than today comics.
This has made me laugh so much, great material and fantastic timing. I first met Ken when I was a 20 year old Bluecoat, years later I was so delighted to be in panto with him at The Woodville Halls, Gravesend. He was a real lovely gentleman, his wife Vicky, an adorable, friendly lovely lady. Was so sad to hear of Ken's passing and have fond memories of that panto to cherish forever. He was a real comedy legend for sure.

so funny. so clean, no swearing, just shows you.

Loved him .loved his laugh and his clean jokes. Very funny man. Greatly missed
We don't have comedians like ken anymore, bring back the good old days
The cheer he gets from the audience says it all. Fabulous, one of the very best.
R.I.P. KEN GOODWIN VERY FUNNY MAN SADLY MISSED x
When comedians were funny. I used to love watching them all on The Comedians. I met Charlie Williams on numerous occasions. They were all brilliant
RIP Hope your having a good laugh in heaven Ken, what an amazing comedian he was.
No swearing, no vulgarity, no racism - just well-delivered jokes.
@ nope, I don't justify any stereotypical jokes. Unfortunately Irish 'jokes' were very commonplace then as was racist 'humour'. One could argue all day over whether it's acceptable to make jokes stereotyping one's own race or religion but yes, best left well alone otherwise. There is always an element of intent v words and one doesn't get the impression that Ken had a nasty bone in his body. Would he still be cracking Irish jokes now? Possibly not. He obviously didn't go in for jokes about ethnic minorities, which would have been easy back then so that tells you something about the man. We are none of us perfect.
@ Go away your type are todays problem.
Paolo Panza racism is based on colour not nationality
That's true I liked him too
yes old classics. russ abbott was one of my best.
Can't help but smile when you see this guy..brilliant..
Fantastic, always remembered Ken Goodwin from my youth,i can always remember him because of his daft laughing at each of his jokes, brilliant.

I saw Kenny Goodwin in the mid 70's along with other greats of the time, such as
Mike Reid, Frank Carson and Jim Davidson. They were great times, they don't make comedians like they did back in that time, before the PC world of today.
LONG LIVE THE 1970's.
bofursgun You misunderstood my comments, I was not comparing Kenny Goodwin with Jim Davidson, neither was I comparing Mike Reid with Frank Carson. They were all great in their own right. I was merely commenting on the comedians we had then, and comparing them to the so called "comedians" of today.
bofursgun Like you say, everyone is entitled to their opinion, call me old fashioned, (I am in my late 50's)So I grew up with the likes of Goodwin, Carson, and Davidson. But, at least they didn't use expletives backthen, unlike most "comedians" of today. OK, I know, Davidson, and Bernard Manning did move with thetimes and began using such profanity in their routines. However, most of the "comedians" of today are just too crude, and not funny at all. People such as Chubby Brown for example, if that is what is called keepingup with the times, it shows how society in general has deteriorated over the years. My Opinion of course.
Absolutely fantastic!...so funny.
Always liked Ken, so very sad he's no longer with us :(
wow this guys delivery was incredible. he makes bad jokes hilarious!
Brilliant...harmless humor!...saw him live back in the day...he walked on stage...and didn't say anything just laughed for five minutes...the audience just laughed for 5 minutes...he had said nothing...less is more,x
Ken great comic great showman so funny to watch his ways of telling jokes and sang and played the banjo some of the 70.s comedians where brilliant had to go around pubs and clubs before they got anywhere had to work hard rip Ken
Simply brilliant !!
i absolutely loved ken Goodwin and all the other great stars of the comedians i watched as a child, good clean family humour from a naturally funny Comedy legend who is sorely missed. Big thanks to whoever uploaded this, you brought back some happy memories of good times and reminded us of some of the great talent we'll never see the likes of again.
The Horse joke had me in stitches...4th time hearing it😂
Oh i totally agree with u 100%. Xx
I SAW KEN IN THE EARLY 70S AT THE CRESTA CLUB SOLIHULL,,,,,HE GOT A STANDING OVATION FOR ABOUT 4-5MINUTES,,,,,THAT NIGHT HAS REMAINED IN MY MEMORY ,,,,,,HE TRULY WAS SENSATIONAL THAT NIGHT,,,,,JOHN GRIFFIN,,,
Loved the joke about the bobbies at Piccadilly lol. I’m very impressed with his banjo playing.
1st time I heard of ken Goodwin I couldn't stop laughing at him... He is such a legend
Saw him back in 1974 on the same bill as Peters and Lee on the North Pier at Blackpool. I've watched and laughed at many blue comics over the years but Ken was as funny as anyone without telling any smutty gags.
Always have tears rolling down my cheeks after watching him. Comedy genius.
I loved watching the Comedians when I was little. I loved them all, especially Ken Goodwin and Charlie Williams, who I met on numerous occasions. We'll never see their like again. Good clean and classic comedy.
Charlie Williams loved the attention, but was very nasty in person
Fantastic laughed the hold way through.
loved ken so funny what a legend R.I.P Ken one of the all time greats never failed to make me laugh
Not only was Ken a great Comedian but he had a Marvellous Singing Voice .
I often wondered if he made any LPs.
Totally agree about his innocent Fun and not a Smutty Joke ever. TRUE TALENT.
Ken recorded his first LP during the winter of 1970 and it was released in the spring of 1971 foĺowing his six week pantomime debut at the then Lewisham Concert Hall.
His first LP was ' Settle Down ', from '71/72; his second was ' Memories ' , from '76 ; the third , on President Records , was ' Merry Christmas Darling ' , in '79. He released a few Singles , too.
Love this guy. One of the best of them
I used to like him as a child, not because I understood the jokes but because of his funny, laughing delivery. The singing at the end was a wonderful treat.
BRILLIANT STUFF!!!!! AND A NICE GUY TO WORK WITH. RIP KEN!
That was superb.Forgot how good he was. Never forgot 'Settled down now' though, that's engrained in the memory.
Loved him to bits. Attaboy Ken...
I'm crying with laughter. Ken just so funny. When he laughed i laughed because his jokes were so funny.
I meet him in Bristol while i was having my haircut. We had a chat and what a lovely bloke he was.
A superb entertainer, and played a ukulele as good as good old George Formby.
Comedy gold, these lads were the best
He was one of those i remember from ages back. different and really funny
Thanks ken for all the laughs
The absolutely brilliant Sir.... Ken Goodwin
RIP Ken. Always my fave on Comedians.
He was different gravy our Ken, a brilliant comic and such a likeable guy
Back in the day when comedians were funny.god bless them all.

As a kid I loved the Comedians on TV ..and he was one of

This is absolutely fantastic, brilliant british comedy R.I.P Ken Goodwin
The funniest comic ever,!! Love ken.
That took me back....great memories !

I love how he tells the guys shouting at the start 'shut your gob, you' LOL He's a nice guy
Saw him a few times live:
He could just stand there and have the place on the floor before he said anything.
No swearing but he did slip in the odd cheeky joke but would tell it so children just wouldn’t get it but still be laughing anyway
Part 2) In 1970 we were on ACE OF Clubs on BBC TV,and won award for music.Ken was on and also Norman Collier.Ken got best reception on the night, but they gave Norman the award as they saw mileage in him as situation comedy series.Ken was sharing dressing room with us,and he was understandably extremely upset. We wished we could have made it OK for him. However as we know,he went on to become a great success in Comedians, wheeltappers, and in shows all over Uk and elsewhere.RIP Ken, you were great!
A Real nice guy & So funny without being smutty like most comics. God bless you Ken!
Such a lovely funny man and so naturally talented. Few people know that he had a really wonderful singing voice. George Formby was one of his childhood heroes, in fact he's playing his Dallas D 'George Formby' Banjo Ukulele at the end of this video.
Superb! Had a great trip back in time....Thanks!
Thank you. Great entertainment!
Ken always cheers me up with his infectious giggling. And Tib Street really is just off Piccadilly haha.
