As a Cambodian, Laotian food is the bomb. We Cambodians hardly get any recognition. Laotian people get zero. So good to see Laotian representation here Edit: oh yeah Laotian food is hella spicy. Beats Thailand easily
Lao sausage is my favorite type of sausage. If you’re ever interested in learning more about Lao food and how to cook other recipes, Saeng Douangdara is my go-to on here. He posted recently how Lao food isn’t talked about enough and you guys sharing SEA cuisine with your audience excites me! Thanks lovelies for this vid.
Awww thanks for the shoutout! I love seeing people explore Lao food and appreciate you as well for mentioning me to this creator! I hope we get more people eating Lao food! 💛🙏🇱🇦
the old photo of the Hmong people.... hits hard. but the whole reason for sticky rice is to use it to scoop up minced meat or sauce so the rice doesn't break all apart.
Awww, no Lao-style papaya salad with raw crab and fermented fish sauce. I've tried it here in Silverlake and even though I grew up on fermented fish and shrimp paste, that was a challenging dish for me. Sometimes it comes with marinated raw crab (which I'm sure Herbert would've been very, VERY challenged by. I think it would be nice if you went to the islands of Indonesia or even Sri Lanka for your next one. Keep going South. I love his reactions as well as your attention to the history of the cuisine and how colonization is a factor. Keep it up, YB!
Yayyyy, I've been waiting for this!!! I love listening to how other people pronounce things. Maybe it's just me, but both of my parents are Laotian so we pronounce things a little different in my household. Khao (rice) we usually pronounce like 'cowt' with a soft T sound, and larb is pronounced like 'lawp' with a soft P sound. Also lao sausage is soooo good, my husband loves whenever my mom makes it for us.
Morning YB! I always love you try different countries cuisines including my 2nd home Cambodia ❤ I know a lot about Thai food but not so much about Laos even though we are close, thanks for continuing to educate everyone. 🥰
Yes! thank you for trying out Lao food... Sticky rice is synonymy's with Lao cuisine like how the baguette is to French cuisine. Not the same as sushi rice or other types of "sticky" rice. I noticed the Lao sticky rice has a distinct texture and thank you for doing a bit of research into the complex history of the introduction of Lao food to the U.S.
I find it so funny that Vietnamese are so easily influenced. Not just in the past but modern times as well. France colonized both Laos and Vietnam, but Laos never adopted French cuisine while Vietnamese now start their days with coffee with banquette. If you visit any bakery, you will realize it's like 80% French pastries xD
Would love to see you guys visiting countries to try out their dishes. With all the cultural backinfo YB always knows. Love the video and you guys, keep em coming !
You're also brave for wearing light colours while eating the curry 😭 I never survive it. Love watching these! I learn about types of food I haven't tried yet. Toronto has lots of different types of food and it's a journey itself to choose a place.
I read the book "the spirit catches you and you fall down" this year. In the book the author talks to people who made that journey across the mekong river, and it was treacherous. It was honestly one of the best books ive ever read in my entire life and i think it made me a better person. I am now pursuing a degree in public health because of the effect it had on me. I'd recommend it to anybody working in healthcare or anybody who loves to learn.
wow! the photo shown on the us immigration pop up is actually of Hmong people. we don’t have a specific country but many of us lived/live in Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam.
this was interesting! i didnt know anything about laotian food. i would love to see you try Pakistani food. its similar to indian food with a focus on meat. you'd love it
LOL...YB had to speak faster during the meat section because Herbert was ready to pounce. The next time I have Korean BBQ, I am going to use Herbert's new catchphrase, "Meat between the teeth."
I love that you tried Laotian food. I'm not sorry familiar with it. In my state, there are a lot of Hmong owned restaurants. But I'm not sure if I've had Laotian food. I just know that I have liked almost everything I've tried.
Yum Sticky Rice.. I had in Melbourne ,Vic 2007 to 2019... Cheers from #pollachi #coimbatore I had this chicken juicy skrewers... CHICKEN Curry typical like SOUTH Indian #tamilnadu #version , you should have tried with the sticky rice... I love THAI Curries with veggies and chicken... MASSAMAN my favorite..
Herbert had a sausage malfunction 😂Aren't you supposed to eat the rice with your hands? Why didn't you just eat and film in the restaurant? Wow, that curry must be hot if YB was taken back
Lao ppl eat wit their hands unless we are eating soup or some type of noodles. Sticky rice is like ur scooping utensil, u can ball it up to dip or pick up ur food like laap. Btw u used Hmong ppl in ur pic of showing them immigrating to America from refugee camps, not Lao. Nice video I love how u show pics when explaining a country.
This made me so happy to see my culture represented 🥹🥹🥹 SO GLAD y’all enjoyed it.

that makes sense. so much stickier than Korean rice, I love it!!

highly recommend! 🥰

Another different Asian cuisine. Never tried Laotian food, but now I’m gonna look it up!
yess highly recommend!!
you don't use chop sticks for the food you guys chose. Sticky rice is eaten with your hands.
I thought so!! We had to make some changes for eating in the car 😅
Thank you for teaching us about other cuisines! Now if I find a Laotian restaurant I’ll know what to try. The Crispy Rice salad sounded amazing.
I hope you get to try them!! 🥰

yes there weren't many photos available :( but learning the history was so crazy!
I’ve never had Laos food but I wonder if it’s the same as Thai food? Looks delicious YB! I like how adventurous Herbert is with his food.
very similar!!
A lot of Thai food is Lao food especially “Thai isan”
this was interesting! i didnt know anything about laotian food.

I'll look for some restaurants when I'm back from travels! :)

The hmong people cook and sell lao food but they’re not as good as the original cuisine from Laos.

Gotta use your hands when it comes to Lao food.
Not when you're in a car. 😂
at home I definitely will!! 🥰
Nam-kao is not made with coked sticky rice. It's made with cooked jasmine rice
Have you considered any of the traditional Scandinavian foods? (Not ikea! 😉)
I would love to try!! 🥰
My favorite is the crispy rice too! I love Laos food more than Thai food!
honestly I haven't had an Asian country that I didn't like the food of LOL
Lots of hmong and thai food are copies from lao cuisine.
Ah no way that's down the street from my house! Assuming it's the Westminster location it's in OC not LA. Just a tip (:
OC! my bad :)
The amount of anxiety I had when Herbert opened the soup inside the car. 😂 praying for no spillage
same 😂
Please do SOUTH INDIAN Cuisine...
it's on my list!! after my travels 🥰
@@YBChangOfficial thanks Dear ... please check our... Lot of Variations in South Indian cuisine...
Try Burmese food next!😊
Does Herbert watch the videos and see your cute edits? heehee
yes we watch the video together before it's released! 😆
It would be interesting to see German food from different parts/ regions of Germany!
we'll be there soon! ;)
The food looks so good. But I could not eat it in my car. Herbert dropping the food is the very reason why I don't.
it was so hard haha
you got americanized Laos food. You need to get the authentic stuff. Raw beef, bile for extreme bitter and extreme spiciness.
Herbert had a sausage malfunction 😂Aren't you supposed to eat the rice with your hands? Why didn't you just eat and film in the restaurant? Wow, that curry must be hot if YB was taken back

yes!! we did a while back but I can try again 🥰
NO.5 pretty sure this dish is NOT LAOTIAN FOOD.
Laos cuisine rarely has coconut milk.
Bangladeshi food!
😋😋❤️️😍☺
Very Saab Laii.
Herbert is slipping, he missed a few "that's what she said" moments.
😂😂

😭😭
" meat between your teeth" lol
hahaha
Burmese food!
yess I actually tried to look but there weren't any near me 😭
