Everybody states the literal translatio of halo halo "mix mix" because halo is mix. But halo halo actually means "variety" as in "halo halong mga sangkap" a variety of toppings/ingredients
@@lonewolf5969 "mix mix" isnt an actual term, which is my point. Im saying halo halo's true translation isnt "mix mix" as it isnt a real word/phrase/term, the actual closest is variety
@@lonewolf5969 the most likely reason that halo halo is named such isnt because hinahalo halo siya, but because its essentially halo halong mga ingredients. So again, its not "halo = to mix, therefore halo halo = mix mix" it leans more "halo halo = a variety, assortment or (as you said) a mix of ingredients) ( which again - to be clear, is my point)
I recommend that you guys should do "Kakanin" or the traditional Filipino desserts. They are usually made with coconut, glutinous rice, and brown sugar. And ofc, YB, you might like some of it because some Korean traditional desserts are also made with the same ingredients!
ohhh fun fact about empanada, we have two types. 1. the one you just ate, which has more thicker crust or wrapper, like its been baked (spanish style) and dip in a thick sweet sauce. 2. Ilocano Empanada - the fried one, it has vegetables, eggs, ground meat and thin wrapper, dipped in vinegar, which I think is way better lol.
For Desserts, I would recommend Taho. It's a cross between tofu pudding, and boba, and it's usually served warm for breakfast. Vendors would actually walk around the neighborhood carrying two buckets hanging from a pole on their shoulders, and people would just bring their own containers (mugs, bowls, etc) to be filled up. Another great comforting dessert is Ginitaang bilo bilo. which is like a warm tapioca pudding mixed with sweet potato, mochi, jackfruit and all sorts of other toppings. It's like a warm version of halo halo lol. Brazo de Mercedes is another classic. It's basically a custard Marshmallow roll, but modern takes have included ice cream as well.
I appreciate that you look things up before you try them. A lot of content creators come and try Filipinos blind and they eat them the wrong way and inadvertently come out a little offensive
Red Ribbon is actually a fastfood version of a bakery here in the Philippines given that it's also owned by Jollibee. They're good but not as authentic as they are mass produced. Really glad to see you enjoy them though and I hope you guys can try more authentic ones soon! Maybe even visit the Philippines!
probably why the "ube flavor" in the ube desserts they tasted is pretty much non existent lol. i think they should have tried more traditional ube desserts
4:38 the vinegar dipping sauce refers actually to the Ilocos Empanada, which is a deep fried pastry filled with vegetables and longganisa or bagnet. The empanada you guys had is best enjoyed on its own, or some would put hot sauce. :)
Hey, YB! There are actually two kinds of empanadas in the PH. This is the traditional one which is like a pastry, while the one referred to in the description you read which needs dipping sauces is Vigan empanada (bright orange in color usually). Both are good. Hope you'll get to try the latter as well!
Hi, I’ve been watching you since Buzzfeed and Food Babies. As a Filipino, I appreciate how you take time and make effort to research about the background of each food. Not only are your videos enticing but also informative/educational. Thank you. 💗
I would recommend kakanin (Filipino rice cakes) next like bibingka, biko, puto bumbong, and sapin-sapin if they're available! Also, I second Arroz Caldo being good for when you're sick. It's like the equivalent of chicken noodle soup. I had it for days when I got my wisdom teeth removed haha
I think one of my go-to staples growing up was pandesal (bread). Fresh pandesal smells so good and putting whatever topping you want (peanut butter, jelly, cheese spread (my dad's favorite)). I also love the Sans Rival cake cause meringue, cream and nuts - you can't go wrong! Excited for you all to try other foods! I would love for y'all to try some Taiwanese food. A couple of years ago, one of my friends took me to a Taiwanese restaurant and I was absolutely floored by the flavors. Beef noodle soup on paper was like "oh I probably have tasted this before" but the way it's made was like nothing I have ever tasted!
you can try more ‘desert’ snacks such as pastillas, yema, barquillos, dried mango, dried tamarind, and so on. you should definitely try philippines’ chocolate. (I swear ph chocolate hits different)
YB! Here are some more Filipino desserts: sansrival or sylvanas, kakanins (rice cakes) like suman, kalamay, palitaw, biko, puto, kutchinta. Then warm sweet snacks like champorado (eat it with dried fish) and bilo-bilo.
Hi YB and Herbert! You mentioned in the video that you would like an Ube cake for your birthday, try Red Ribbon's ube cake - it's THE best! Love that you both enjoyed the desserts!
All of the savory things I would love to try either at Jollibee or at a restaurant but we don’t have Jollibee here in Colorado nor do we have a lot of Filipino restaurants. The mango cakes looks delish. I would eat that out of all the desserts.
Ensaymada is my go to snack, during my college days. Whenever i am travelling i always have that in my bagpack.. my favourite dessert are rice cakes, like sapin sapin, puto, tikoy, biko.. or mango float, buco salad, Mango Panna cota.. anyway thanks for trying our desserts..
Another way to enjoy ensaymada is to reheat it in the microwave or oven just to melt the butter and cheese together. I like mine with a bit crispy cheese topping. 😋
Those are so much sweets! Sugar rush is real!🤣 The empanada in Red Ribbon is more of a turnover than an actual empanada. If you want the real empanada with dipping sauce, its called Ilocos Empanada; though it might be difficult to find it there.😅 If you find a Filipino bakeshop or maybe in a Filipino mart, you should try Buko Pie (Young Coconut Pie) and Pineapple Pie. If you come across a Goldilocks Bakeshop, you should try their polvoron and butter macaroons (not really Filipino but its still good. Hahaha). There are a lot more desserts like Sans Rival and Sylvannas (both butter and merengue based desserts also has peanuts) and Brazo de mercedes (its a roll cake but instead of cake, the roll is made from soft, fluffy, merengue and filled with custard). Also, Pastillas (sweet milk candies) is good too. 😁
My Filipino Bf's family always buys from Red Ribbon. One time i kept a pastry sitting for two days and it molded in the packaging. You know it's definitely fresh 😭😭. I thought since it was individually wrapped it would've been processed but nope! I was sad to throw it away. Lesson learned. Also love Banila Co. You don't need much to clean a full face of make up. Lasts me about a year. :D
Boy, I’m a terrible Filipino! I haven’t tried half of these desserts! Lol! Glad you and Herbert enjoyed it all. I gotta go get my Filipino on now! 😂 Btw…you guys are soooo cute!!
Have you tried sapin-sapin, bilo-bilo, biko, coonut pie, pandecoc, hopia? but you probably can't get those in the US. you need to go to the Philippines to taste the entire food tray.
In the name of content😅.. Kudos on eating all that dessert 😁🍰 YB, we have the same fave. Everytime I visit the Philippines, cheesy ensaymada is on top of my list.
halo halo doesn't mean mix mix.. in a way... it's the literal translation of the word by word translation from undeducated filipinos that has been made standard... but the proper and correct translation of halo halo is "mixed" (verbals) or "variety" example: halo halong bagay = mixed things filipino language always have repetitive words in their grammar usually for verbals..
YB, let him try filipino bread (all sweet ones) so he will suffer a bit.. since german bröt has little sugar as possible, would be fun to compare hahaha.
Everybody states the literal translatio of halo halo "mix mix" because halo is mix. But halo halo actually means "variety" as in "halo halong mga sangkap" a variety of toppings/ingredients
Agree...or like an assortment of ingredients
Mix also means variety lol haven’t you had nut mix or mixed nuts? Lmao
Mix mix means mix of everything and mixing it all together.
@@lonewolf5969 "mix mix" isnt an actual term, which is my point. Im saying halo halo's true translation isnt "mix mix" as it isnt a real word/phrase/term, the actual closest is variety

i love how u research carefully the history of each cuisine. that’s why i love watching ur vidss!!!
I recommend that you guys should do "Kakanin" or the traditional Filipino desserts. They are usually made with coconut, glutinous rice, and brown sugar. And ofc, YB, you might like some of it because some Korean traditional desserts are also made with the same ingredients!
You can try our native kakanins or the other Jollibee franchise Mang Inasal aka grilled bbq chicken
Espasol, Pichi-Pichi(2nd best), Palitaw, Kutsinta, Maja Blanca, Bibingka, Inutak, peanut tikoy rolls(the best)
ohhh fun fact about empanada, we have two types.

i love how she pronounced the palabok and aroz caldo with a korean accent xD so cute XD

Cracking up at Herbert shaking and hiccuping! Lol 😂😂 But he pushed through to the end! 😊
hi yb! fun fact: red ribbon is actually owned by jollibee!
No way!!! That’s awesome 😂❤
i'm a filipino and i don't even know that
Oh nice
jollibee also owns CBTL
The question is, what doesn't Jollibee own?
Hi, I’ve been watching you since Buzzfeed and Food Babies. As a Filipino, I appreciate how you take time and make effort to research about the background of each food. Not only are your videos enticing but also informative/educational. Thank you. 💗
Moved to Virginia Beach last year and there are so many Filipino bakeries here, definitely needed this
I would recommend kakanin (Filipino rice cakes) next like bibingka, biko, puto bumbong, and sapin-sapin if they're available! Also, I second Arroz Caldo being good for when you're sick. It's like the equivalent of chicken noodle soup. I had it for days when I got my wisdom teeth removed haha

Try traditional desserts generally called "kakanin". They're more like a snack than a dessert imo.
YB! Here are some more Filipino desserts: sansrival or sylvanas, kakanins (rice cakes) like suman, kalamay, palitaw, biko, puto, kutchinta. Then warm sweet snacks like champorado (eat it with dried fish) and bilo-bilo.
Puto (steamed ricr cake) and Biko (sweet rice with brown sugar and coconut milk) are 2 of my favorite Filipino desserts!!
Love how YB takes big bites from half of the pastries. Next time try Sans Rival cake, my fav. Also try stick Filipino food if you haven’t already.
Why is this vid out when I’m working on my summer shred? Ube is so good - glad you enjoyed!
Nice to see Herbert really enjoying the Halo Halo! 😁
I NEED to try Ube!!! The color is so stunning!!
Hi YB and Herbert! You mentioned in the video that you would like an Ube cake for your birthday, try Red Ribbon's ube cake - it's THE best! Love that you both enjoyed the desserts!
Just in time for lunch, perfect timing 🎉 Thank you, YB!
Ensaymada, I only had once, and I loved it! Mine had the butter and sugar inside, and cheese on top. Haunts my dreams!
I need to revisit red robbin and try the new things! I usually just grab the usuals and just go
Always give a good mix with the halo-halo and the palabok as well to have an even flavor
Love you guys,,,having a background for each food❤❤❤
Congrats Herbert, you pull through!
All of the savory things I would love to try either at Jollibee or at a restaurant but we don’t have Jollibee here in Colorado nor do we have a lot of Filipino restaurants. The mango cakes looks delish. I would eat that out of all the desserts.
9:06 - that's a purple sweet potato, not ube. Ube looks more like a taro root crop but purple.
You gotta do a mukbang of Filipino snacks or street food!😊
Ensaymada is my go to snack, during my college days. Whenever i am travelling i always have that in my bagpack.. my favourite dessert are rice cakes, like sapin sapin, puto, tikoy, biko.. or mango float, buco salad, Mango Panna cota.. anyway thanks for trying our desserts..
really enjoyed watching you guys try filipino desserts :)
The ube cake looks awesome. Great video. 😊
Ensaymada is always Elite 🔥
The perfect snack in the afternoon, you'll always see it in Filipino bakery's, just absolutely perfect.
Another way to enjoy ensaymada is to reheat it in the microwave or oven just to melt the butter and cheese together. I like mine with a bit crispy cheese topping. 😋
biko, karioka, & taho! you two need to try these if you do a part 2 🥰🇵🇭
Those are so much sweets! Sugar rush is real!🤣 The empanada in Red Ribbon is more of a turnover than an actual empanada. If you want the real empanada with dipping sauce, its called Ilocos Empanada; though it might be difficult to find it there.😅

Hello YB, I always feel intrigued by your amazing videos, the desserts look so flavourful. 😊
is one of your animals opening the shower door @1:15 or do you have a ghost? lol
Dang, you 2 are on a Filipino tear 🔥🇵🇭
Oohh!! I can feel the sugar rush 😂😂😂 those look wonderful 🎉🎉
Quick suggestion, I hope you can order arroz caldo when it's raining. You will definitely love to eat that while it's pouring outside!

Boy, I’m a terrible Filipino! I haven’t tried half of these desserts! Lol! Glad you and Herbert enjoyed it all. I gotta go get my Filipino on now! 😂 Btw…you guys are soooo cute!!
I use Torriden.. is yesstyle better? ty for sharing
Hey Hey, you can also put a bit of lime/calamansi juice with the palabok. It compliments the dish well. :)
Positive Herbert really enjoyed this episode
Have you tried sapin-sapin, bilo-bilo, biko, coonut pie, pandecoc, hopia? but you probably can't get those in the US. you need to go to the Philippines to taste the entire food tray.
Is nobody gonna talk about 1:16 👁️👄👁️
I was looking for this comment! Door kinda creepy
❤❤❤ Thanks for support local foods 🎉
So interesting!! The halo halo is so pretty!! 💖
Herbert just eating already gets him an invite to a fiesta hahaha
Annyeong YB❤
Hope you both have a great Easter 🐣 😊 ❤!
Try the rices cakes desert its so good
Its called kakanin ricecakes
Ube have a light flavor thats why it is always pait with macapuno (candied coconut)
The pronunciation is still on point!
Halo-halo is my favorite.
Should do Japanese sweets or even Korea sweets
All of those desserts looked AMAZING!!! I LOVE ube, so I try to get ube desserts and drinks when I find them :) Thanks for sharing!
Please try Filipino comfort foods Ginataan Halo-Halo and Champorado.
Try a few of the kakanin. its more typical Filipino dessert
In the name of content😅.. Kudos on eating all that dessert 😁🍰 YB, we have the same fave. Everytime I visit the Philippines, cheesy ensaymada is on top of my list.
you can put calamansi to the palabok next time, adds more taste
when the sugar rush wore down, they are gonna fall asleep hard for sure 😂
i will definitely buy desserts tomorrow 🤤🤤
Filipinos love bread :) i love RR sobra
it's bad, i'm craving for those desserts like no tomorrow. need to visit a filo shop soon
It’s a miss that you didn’t try the “Black Forest” cake from Red Ribbon since your hubby is from Germany lol. It’s like chocolate and cherry cake
That toner is my favorite!
YB: I want my birthday cake to be this color
I hope Herbert caught that not-so-subtle hint
The chocolate cake looks delicious 😋
Herbert is such a german, reminds me of my dad 😂😂
FIRST!! 🤩🥳
Try the Kakanin Dessert
No mango float :(
try tupig and buko salad ✨😍
Getting secondary sugar rush from watching 😂 I'm glad you enjoyed them tho 😊
halo halo doesn't mean mix mix.. in a way... it's the literal translation of the word by word translation from undeducated filipinos that has been made standard...
but the proper and correct translation of halo halo is "mixed" (verbals) or "variety"
example:
halo halong bagay = mixed things
filipino language always have repetitive words in their grammar usually for verbals..
That's a LOT of desserts hahaha!
try mango float, leche flan, fruit salad, buko pandan
love it❤
I hope to one day eat a ton of pastries with my partner in our home while cracking jokes like you guys. One day!! 😊
Yummmmmmyyyyyyy😊😊😊😊
I’m assuming you drank lactose free milk, yes?
YB, let him try filipino bread (all sweet ones) so he will suffer a bit.. since german bröt has little sugar as possible, would be fun to compare hahaha.
6:23 that is purple sweet potato not ube 😂
i ask for arroz caldo when im sick yb hahahaha
I am struggling to finish the video because I also feel all the sugar from the manyyy desserts hahahhaha but thank you for trying these :)
Your husband looks a actor😅 btw you two are so cute and nice greetings from pelepensssss
Burger king Philippines is also owned by Jollibee foods Corporations
Chowking
Mang inasal
Greenwich
You have to warm the ensymada next time!!!! Taste 1000000x better. Just like 10 seconds in the microwave
I love to drink milk when eating sweet things as well.
Arroz Caldo, Spanish Sounding but kinda Chinese tasting = Filipino dish (Filipino Congee) 😂
Bibingka galapong, puto, puto bumbong, cassava cake, ube kalamay, nilupak, kutsinta, sapin-sapin, biko, suman…these are the real Filipino desserts
Wow mouth watering dessert👅👅👍👏👏👏
