that ending skit had some world class cinematography, joe. someone please give this man an oscar
The toilet flush and washing machine made it that much more real.
That ending skit comes off like he's trying to make fun of people with autism that like videogames. Possibly even his very audience.
@@kekeke8988your a BETA! if you think that
I think we can truly say, this is the Summer of Sack.
Hot Sack Summer, for sure.
Sweaty Summer Sack.... I dunno. Might play with the audience! You never know.
Thats what she said..
TCM BETTER WATCH OUT!!
It's Sacktastic
Thanks for the shout, Joe! Just want to stress that the Stellar Assault SS project was thoroughly a team effort:
Audio Engineer - Shadowmask
Script Editors - Danthrax, Cargodin
Text and Graphics Editor - Danthrax
Mission Stick Support and Gameplay Hacks - Silos
Seeing Craig Stadler do sick drifts and burnouts on the highways of Tokyo was an unexpected treat. I'm sure he drained it after you got it inside his.
Wait, this episode was recorded 2 months ago? No wonder it tasted weird.
im much bigger then you boy
wanna fight me
im 7 feet tall 320 pounds sissy boy
let me know
hahahahahahahahahahahahah sweet soft man
i would drop you in a heart beat boy
Hillarious.
As a European Non-Native Speaker, playing Y's The Vanished Omens entirely in English with a dictionary on my lap, when I was 12 years old, greatly helped me learning my second language.
Just as I was looking for something to watch at 2 in the morning
I really don't care for Dr. Slump but Amira Toriyama's art style really shines through even on a PS1 game, very nice looking. Sort of reminds me of Mega Man Legends.
You should care for it, it's one of the single greatest manga works ever for a reason.
Game Sack is the most cozy UA-cam channel of all time. For real. I love this channel so much, it's like laying under a warm fuzzy blanket. Joe, you're amazing man, I hope I keep your passion for gaming as long as you have.
Sega lord x has the same kind of feel. I keep switching between those two channels. Sometimes they have the same games. But i dont care
@@janthoregrefstad251and another for the uninitiated.. LGR
It was great seeing all the games my friends worked on. Thanks Joe
liar
@@jasonvoorhees5640 yeah cuz that's something worth lying about.
@@ChaossX77
U MAD XD
The thing about Live-a-Live is that each chapter's character designs and concept art were drawn by a different Japanese manga artist. Obviously that doesn't translate all that well into sprite form, apart from the battle sprites which are mostly huge.
I am driving down the street above the speed limit with this video playing in my cars stereo at full blast and my windows fully open so everyone can get some Sack
The censorship in Grandia basically amounts to any references to Alcohol being changed to coffee.
That issue was so bizarre, and held back so many titles. But that is how things were at the time. I remember we had to wait a long time for releases. Could be six months, to a year, after its original release.
But Grandia was one of those treasures, that is a must play
Ahhh gotcha. Your avatar reminds me of the one Trekkies Unite 118 used on forums.
thanks for pointing that out
@@kadosho02 in this case it wouldn't have held it back though, it wasn't like they would have to change any of the images, just text. Which they were already doing through translating it anyway.
It's unfortunate that this kind of censorship still happens today
That end skit wasn't a skit, it was an artsy European movie.
I mean, preparing your episodes well in advance doesn't take away any of the relevance of your content. Keep it up! I love your channel!
It only "harms" fan patches, but you can easily find the next day they push a major revision.
Happy to see you shouting out some of those Saturn translation projects!! Excellent work is being done across many platforms now, it's great to see.
Thanks to you, I can race against Craig Stadler on the highways of Tokyo! (Read the translation notes if you haven't)
Aconcagua looks unbelievably good for PS1
True. Seems really ambitious.
that's the advantage of having very close up static cameras
The illustrators for each chapter of Live a Live are basically the character designers. Square hired one for each chapter. Iirc they're all big names in Japan.
The bath with the teacher in Dr Slump was part of the original manga and anime. So yeah... The translation is pretty faithful!
The artists credited at the beginning of every chapter in Live A Live are famous manga creators that were tasked to design the characters. The most well known one in the West might be Gosho Aoyama, who designed the Ninja part of the game - he's the creator of Detective Conan / Case Closed.
What's the point if you can't even decipher the designs from the pixel art?
One of the most cursed ending skits to date
thats a new one
And yet one of the funniest. Don't know why but the three camera setup just killed me.
Was it poking fun at another channel?
Reminded me of like Resident Evil 1, the way the camera angles change and even that sound in the background.
The lack of dogs barking somewhere in the vicinity ruined the immersion for me
The Dr Slump one is based on the 96 anime which redesigned a lot of characters. Since most modern depictions of the characters use the classic 80's designs it's safe to say the ones from the game aren't very popular.
I still remember being amazed how I could play Dragon Quest 5 and 6 with fan translations on the old ZSnes.
Ohhhh planet laika was named after the Soviet dog Laika that went to space in the 50s. He’s quite famous- arcade fire did a song about him, there is another band who did a musical based on laika.
Good stuff,i look forward to these all week joe, thanks!
Joe seems like a cool guy that you’d want to drink a beer with just to hear some of his gaming stories.
Yup that's right, I was there when Ryu did the first hadoken
JOEY DOES NOT SHARE FOOD
When he gets drunk he pulls his pants down and spins around while pissing and screaming "I'm a sprinkler I'm a sprinkler"
So... If you're okay with that...
Dave was the beer guy
Joe and Dave both be a great companion
15:52
I like the way you handle that stick.
I remember very early in the life of emulation I played Dragon Ball Z legend of the Super Saiyan from the super famicom in Japanese not knowing a lick of it, so happy someone eventually translated it.
OMG seeing Craig was incredible ⛳️
the sketch at the end is hilarous xD
Damn that Craig Stadler. Great episode as always, Joe!
Joe’s showing a lot of Saturn love.
And I’m McLuvin’ it
Haha mcluvin
The world is grateful for your contribution Joe. Three Game Sack's in a row....
The weirdest Craig Stadler cameo is in Exile 2: Wicked Phenomenon for the TurboGrafx-16, where he plays Stadler, the desert warrior.
Great episode! I'm currently playing the English fan translation of Baroque for the PS1, hopefully you'll talk about that in a future episode!
my weekend is now complete.
So, playing games, furiously masturbating, and listening to Joe Redifer.
Which order do you do them in and do you multitask?
Loved the Arale game! I went with the retail version of her.
Love game sack
really enjoyed the atypical games on this complication. nice work joe!
29:11 You can see Joe blinking Morse code. Probably an ARG or just a cry for help.
Game Sack
That end skit reminds me so much of Game Life back in the old days. Thanks for showing us just how far we’ve come.
Stellar Assault looks amazing. So is the game room. Thanks for sharing a more behind the screen of it.
The Craig Stadler cameo was unexpected and hilarious
Haha that outro! I don't know how you kept a straight face filming it!
The illustrators for Live a Live did the character designs for each chapter, I believe; 7 in all, all who worked on various Manga. That's why there's so many credited.
Like the tiny little pixel art? Maybe I missed the actual illustrations.
@@GameSack The pixel art was done by internal Square staff, but the concept art and character designs (like the ones used on the box and manual as well as ancillary media) were done by the manga artists. All from Shogakukan, specifically! Apparently Square Enix needed to get the OK from the artists before a re-release was available too.
Had recently started Aconcagua..a pretty good game :)
Love the information about Sega Saturn translations. So many quality games I never got to experience back in the day.
About Illustration credit on each Chapter for Live a Live, this game was unique back in the because they hired famous manga artist (of the time) to design characters for each chapter, lke Gosho Aoyama the creator of Detective Conan (he was know as creator of Yaiba back then tho)
So because these artist were famous and they weren't Square employee, so it make sense to give them the credit.
Good news is that released some great new fan translations(since may), so part 4 is a given. Laika is super bizarre, just wish battle were more...battly
I never realized there was a Dr. Slump adventure game. The graphical style is really charming and translates the manga pretty well.
Many of us have waited years for a Segagaga translation that may very well never come!!😢
15:31 I can't believe they were able to localize the voice acting!
It reminds me of Silpheed on the Sega CD
This channel brings me a Saturday Morning Cartoons vibe, and I love it!
When you said "Or...like it's written here: Live A-Three-viDGEE" cracked me up more than it probably should.
I appreciate the long content and because you spread them out every other week it never gets old even though you're getting close to episode 400.
the little girl in the Dr Slump game is a character in the Dragonball (prequel to DBZ) anime.
i like game sack sooo much. i hope it never ends.
That last game has Akira Toriyama written all over it. If it isn't, it's definitely heavily inspired by him. The characters, the dinosaur, and that pink or red mech look almost exactly like things that have appeared in either Dragonball or Dragonball Z
Dr. Slump is a manga by Akira Toriyama that predates Dragon Ball. It was his first big success and the characters even make a cameo in the Dragon Ball manga as well. :)
@Also Goku and the Red Ribbon Army make a cameo appearance in the 1990’s Dr. Slump series. The 90’s Dr . Slump series can be streamed on Tubi.
I cracked up when I saw Craig. More Craig cameos plz!
Its nice to see yiffing in 90's games when it required a lot more bravery.
There was something a bit creepy about that final skit, with those industrial sounds and that dark corridor. Got Silent Hill vibes.
Feels like the Dougie segments from the Twin Peaks 3rd season
I felt it had some eraserhead vibes. I have no idea how people can enjoy that movie...
i was expecting jumpscare at the end of the video
25:50 This is an anime/manga made by the Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama BEFORE he made dragon ball. Awesome looking game
I really love every post-credit scene. Sometimes I suffer through the whole video to watch it.
Joe has a life outside of video games? 😮
Lies!
Oh dang Dr Slump. Haven't thought about that in 20 years
This is my #1 channel that helps me fall asleep. I’ve watched every episode since I found the channel in 2020. Thanks for the quality content.
OK, I legit lol’d at the Craig Stadler appearance 🤣
I think the skit is your best video yet. You should change the format of Game Sack to this one.
The writing in this episode gave me *Gaming in the Clinton Years" vibes.
I, too, imported Grandia as soon as it was available and failed at my own attempt to “brute force” my way through it!
The production value is so high for this channel and I'm really pleasantly surprised to hear that it's produced so far in advance. I prefer my UA-cam channel hosts to not be stressed out.
your animated transitions are sick as hell man
The end segment rocked my world.
Thank you for making gamesack...during the last minutes of the video I must know who is this handsome, dynamic personality is and where I can find more of his content. I feel like
I am looking in a mirror.
IIRC, they censored Justin and Feena being slightly drunk in one scene. It's maybe at the halfway point, so it's a ways in. And just FYI, Grandia did get a supposed HD Remaster on modern consoles, but the reviews have been mixed.
I have completed all three versions (Japanese Saturn, PS1, HD Remaster on Switch). The HD Remaster is basically the PS1 version with wide screen, higher resolution and 60fps. It’s more than fine, but unfortunately I don’t think people have nostalgia for Grandia like they do for FF7, because so few actually played it back then.
I totally understood you when you said Aeon Genesis translations have a unique flair to the way they translate things. I hope one day Dragon Force 2 and Wachenroder gets translated for the Saturn.
They are
Wachenröder is work in progress, the current version is unpolished and a little buggy
@@TruxtonTatsujin thank you Musha pilot!
Awesome stuff, Joe.
hahaha yeah, Arale is an absolute classic, from the author of Dragon Ball, It's his best work and that game is awesome for a fan :) THANK YOU for making GameSack. Say hi to Dave!
I believe this is the first time someone talked about Dr Slump on the internet without mentioning Akira Toriyama or Dragon Ball lol
@@redeemer021 Because he can!!
Joe, I have so much respect for your workflow and schedule. Good for you being so far ahead and striving for balance, it’s really encouraging to me
My absolute favorite ending skits. Thank you Joe!
Another quality episode. We are so lucky to have John.
A great fan translation to recommend is no doubt "Kirby's Super Star Stacker" on the Super Famicom. Japanese menu texts and cutscene texts have been translated and it's easier to find modes you want to play.
Joe's been watching Eraserhead too much again.
I love how the water looks and moves in Grandia on the Saturn.
Must've blown minds in the 90s!
I wake up every Sunday and watch a good episode of gamesack over breakfast. I've played so many great gems because of them.
So you prefer the satiator over the mode? I have the mode and I have had some issues with Shining Force 3’s fan translation crashing, I wonder if it’s because of the Mode. Thank you for the content you make. It always makes me happy when I launch UA-cam and there’s some sack waiting for me.
Love this channel being a sub a long time, keep up the amazing work joe
Really cool recommendations love all these Fan Translation videos...and your vocal cadence and delivery during the last skit...PURE HILARITY!! One of my favorite skits so far LOL!
As a rule of thumb the only games that look WORSE on Saturn (opposed to PS1) is the fully 3d games because the Saturn couldn't render polygons too good. Many devs even say it's essentially a 2D system.
Live-A-Live illustrators: Square hired manga artists to design each era of the game. For example, the art and characters of the Twilight Edo section were design by Gosho Aoyama - the creator of Case Closed / Detective Conan. How much it translates into the game isn't really seen, but very noticeable in the artwork around it.
That end skit was like a horror movie kept thinking something was gonna run down that hall.
The 1990’s Dr. Slump series can be streamed on Tubi.
Excellent episode! Love new translations and romhacks! Thanks from Germany!
Sack doesn't leave you hanging ..
Really impressed about your schedule, Joe. Great job as always!
That skit at the end was so stupid yet I could not stop laughing :) well done
Aconcagua plays great on PCSXbox. Just as you said in the video, this would have sold well if it was localized back in the day.
I've been so laser focused on all the great translations finally coming out for Saturn that I really am behind on translations for other systems. This type of thing is my favorite UA-cam content of any kind and GameSack (and one or two others) always does a great job.
We REALLY need a Racing Battle C1 Grand Prix fan translation... That would be a dream come true!
A few more examples:
“Toaru Majutsu no Index” for the PSP
“Liar Princess and the Blind Prince” for the PS Vita
“Puyo Puyo Chronicle” for the 3DS
“Digimon Adventure” for the PSP
“Magical Miracle Girl” for the PS Vita
“Toaru Kakagu no RailGun” for the PSP
“To Love Ru True Princess” for the PS Vita
“Wily & Light’s no Rockboard That's Paradise” for the Nintendo Famicom
“Taiko no Tatsujin” for the PS Vita
“Hatsune Miku Project Diva, Diva 2nd”, and “Diva Extend” for the PSP
“Puyo Puyo 15th Anniversary, 20th Anniversary” and “Puyo Puyo 7” for the Nintendo DS
“Gekijouban Mahou Shoujo Madoka The Battle Pentagram” for the PS Vita
...to name a few.
There are even a few examples of games that DID get official localization but also received translation patches by the community, sometimes with more faithful translations like “Monster World IV” for the Sega Mega Drive and “Puyo Puyo Tetris” for the 3DS, other times applying the official translation on versions that did not get a translation such as “Cathrine Full Body” and “Puyo Puyo Tetris” both on the PS Vita.
