Ogre Battle angered me greatly for considering me Evil for training my soldiers to be the best to the point that the evil armies couldn't even hurt them. I would never send soldier into a battle they couldn't win if I could help it D: I believed that each of them had families to go home to.
The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Many of those soldiers became militaristic fascists who would inherit the nations and become ruthless dictators.
I knew the artstyle for Wonder Project J looked familiar, so I looked it up and found out that the character designer, Toshihiro Kawamoto also designed the Cowboy Bebop cast and worked a ton of amazing other anime (FMA, Sword of the Stranger, Gundam 08th MS team, etc)
Amazing video. I was just playing through Valkyrie Profile not too long ago, couldn't have been better timing. Y'all keep doing what y'all do, I'm loving these videos that keep the jrpg alive in the west.
I hope you enjoyed Valkyrie Profile. It's a top 3 PS1 RPG for me along with FF9 and Lunar SSS. If it was your first playthrough did you get the best ending?
Awesome video. What a nostalgia trip for the underdog “RPG Machine” of the 90s. I discovered a lot of these games in high school and college thanks to “simulation” and internet coming into their own in the early 00s. Good times.
I was already planning to replay EVO when I saw this video. I've always thought that game did a fantastic job of creating atmosphere with its music and visuals and I'm very glad that I grabbed a copy back when it was released.
Terranigma, truly one of my most precious childhood experiences. A game which still stays with me to this day; I think about it every few months. I'm extremely bummed that people in the US didn't get to experience it back in the day! Maybe if that had been the case, SE would have returned to the trilogy by now in some form, be it as simple ports, remasters or even remakes. It's a real treasure and I wish SE would acknowledge it in some way. Then again, we didn't get FFT and Parasite Eve 1 over here in EU. Oddly enough, PE2 was released (which I loved). Suikoden 3 also was never released over here, until the PS2 classic version made it to the PS3 store at least. That was a real bummer back then, because Suikoden 1 and 2 had a similar impact on me as Terranigma did.
We didn’t get sooo many games, don’t even get me starting! But yes, having Terranigma as a child was at least a tiny bit of compensation. But I still prefer Illusion of Time over it.
The production value on these videos are way too high for you guys to not seriously take off. Also, I appreciate the hell out of these videos so thank you. Love the content even though I’ve maybe completed 2 JRPG’s in my life. One being Blue Dragon, and the other Chrono Trigger.
Really appreciate the kind words! We’re hoping the same 🤞Sounds like you’re a fan of Toriyama and his art. You’ve already played one of the best with Chrono Trigger but there’s so many other wonderful titles out there if you ever decide to dive deeper into the genre
PLEASE make that Star Ocean 2 video. Not only my all time favorite game (which I usually do a yearly play through and still discover new things every time) but the most underrated and ignored game of the 90s. It's easy to get into and breeze through if you want, but if you're like me and want to discover everything it has to offer, this game can go DEEP. Unreal soundtrack too. Loving these videos, brother.
The first one needs more attention paid too. Like all of that time, like Tales of Phantasia, used the same game code, which made them all feel related in some meta way. They also were impressive visually and had great music all around!
This was a nice trip down memory lane. I played all of the RPGs that were released in the West that are in this video. A lot of the Japan only games mentioned here I had never heard of so not only did I get to reminisce on good times, I also learned new things. Thanks Gaming Broductions.
Exactly what i thought. Such quality videos and full of love. I can only imagine how much research or playing he did to make these videos . I hope you get big bro. You deserve more
Very cool video. Well written, thought out and I love all of the effects, editing and narration. Though I never owned them as a kid, Enix games were the first RPGs I ever played so they have a special place in my heart, looking back. ActRaiser is still an all-time favorite.
I loved everything in this video, from presentation, editing, pacing, clear narration and just fun infromative full hour of both nostalgia and discovery! You just earned a new sub and hope you achieve success with more videos like this.
Star Ocean the Second Story is my all-time favorite game. I'm happy that it's getting a remastered. I knew that Enix did more in Japan, but man, I wish I could play those games.
I am surprised to have never ran into your channel before. I'm subscribed now. Excellent video and I look forward to future content as well as going back and playing catch up
I was hoping it would be Enix. My soul needs an Illusion of Gaia full remake and I’d darn well appreciate a long long overdue official N American Terranigma release. Hell, throw in a current Soul Blazer release too ffs. If we all do our parts and buy and play Actraiser Renaissance then just maybe we’ll get what we want.
A full on Quintet resurgence these days would be amazing. There’s so many new RPG fans in recent years that probably haven’t even heard of their titles let alone played them. For the most part they all hold up really well too.
It would be nice just for those games to be available at all. They are probably my favorite snes games. I would like them to remake it like natsume handled wild guns & ninja warriors
I hope Actraiser sells well enough to prompt at least a port of the trilogy. I have so much nostalgia for Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia and would love to finally play Terranigma.
I loved Actraiser and Illusion of Gaia. Two staples of my childhood. Telekinesis is to this day my favorite super power. I downloaded Actraiser Renaissance as soon as I saw the Direct. It was an amazing remake and I hope so hard for an Illusion of Gaia remake.
Definitely will at some point with a Square Enix in the 2000s video, as well as some other companies we’ll probably cover in the 90s. Thanks for subbing!
If I had to pick one game to play from this video that I've never played before, I would pick Ogre Battle. Really like the battle sprites, and the idea of jumping up a macro-level from managing just one party of characters to managing several parties is not often done. That management of several squads was something I liked about Grand Kingdom on PS4.
I worked at a Video Update (movie rental place) before they went out of business. There was a time they took all the snes off the shelf and intended to bargain bin them. being an employee i had first dibs. I got quite a few with the boxes, but not a lot of manuals.
_Never been an Enix Fan......_ *GET OUT!!!!* Lol jk my dude jk. I grew up with them and love a lot of their games. I get that some people don't feel the same, nothing wrong with that. Cheers my dude.
Terranigma would be an awesome candidate for a remake. There’s still so many gamers in America that have yet to play it so it could be a great way to introduce it to a new audience
Would love to see a video about the first decade of Square Enix (from the DAY they merged, April 1st 2003 - April 1st 2013). Love your content! Thanks for the incredibly detailed videos!
You wanted awesome finds stories? I've got one. Around 2010, I was gifted a game collection from an older gentleman. Like 30 boxed SNES games. Stuff like Brain Lord, Brandish, Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder, Capcom beat em ups, and so much more. I made out like a bandit that day!
They were really lost at sea with their SNES era localizations. Actraiser and the Soul Blazer Trilogy were awesome, as was Ogre Battle, but their other localization choices were pretty questionable when juxtaposed with their decision to leave DQ5 and 6 in Japan.
Yeah it is very interesting they chose to localize more obscure titles like Paladin’s Quest/Lennus and The 7th Saga while skipping out on entries from their flagship series, especially given how critically acclaimed DQ5 was
thanks fo this amazing video the years between 1992 - 1996 are my childhood , played the 7th saga so many times as kid it was pretty hard overall specially with valsu and esuna at the start of the game , i remember that brainlord was not popular around my friends most of then consider it a casual rent or a game to avoid at the moment.
54:20 i think SMT was the first game that lets you recruit monsters, it came out in 1992 and you talk to demons to add them on your party and fuse them together to create stronger demons. love the video though definitely want to try out a lot of these games
It is sad to see them going the route they are now, but we can still hold on to the games a lot of us grew up with and that helped a lot of us through hard times.
Square and Enix were both brilliant in the 90's. When I heard they were merging in the 00's, I was thrilled, thinking, "man, look what they did w/ Chrono Trigger. That's gonna be every game now!" Boy was I wrong, so wrong. I occasionally wonder what these two would look like today had they not merged. This was a fun trip down memory lane. Love Robotrek!
Awesome video. Thanks for all the effort you put into this. I wish some of these older Enix games would see modern ports. I loved the 2/3 of the Quintet trilogy I played, as well as The 7th Saga. So many in this video that would be awesome to play.
I've gotta say I played Torneko: The Last Hope when I was a young teen and I absolutely loved it even if Torneko looked like the complete opposite of me. I think it was actually healthy to play the game at that time. It's still my favorite roguelike/mystery dungeon game and I loved the music and the visual style when I played it.

Came across this. Excellent video. I think I only own three: Dragon Quest 5 and 6 and Star Ocean Second Story. Only recently got the two D.Q. games so I haven't played them. Star Ocean I started a while back and at the time I didn't have time for it so I stopped. Have time now so I should get back to it. Also your birthday is two days before mine, so there's that.
I still remember Illusion of Time(as it was named in Europe) and Terranigma fondly...as a young teenager in the 90s they were among the first that actually handled adult themes, besides the high fantasy setting. It was really something different, especially since a lot of JRPGs never made it to Europe back then...despite sales being a lot higher in Europe than in the US...just like today...it was a shame...I had to import so many JRPGs from the US...

The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Many of those soldiers became militaristic fascists who would inherit the nations and become ruthless dictators.
So many bizarre games, but also so many good games from Enix. It's startling just how many games they helped release.
And all BEFORE they pulled the biggest-dick-in-the-universe-est move ever and merged with their main competitor and only company that rivaled them
I knew the artstyle for Wonder Project J looked familiar, so I looked it up and found out that the character designer, Toshihiro Kawamoto also designed the Cowboy Bebop cast and worked a ton of amazing other anime (FMA, Sword of the Stranger, Gundam 08th MS team, etc)
Oh wow cool find, thanks for pointing that out! Love me some Cowboy Bebop and FMA
Terranigma is still one of my favourite games.
Amazing video. I was just playing through Valkyrie Profile not too long ago, couldn't have been better timing. Y'all keep doing what y'all do, I'm loving these videos that keep the jrpg alive in the west.

Soulbkazer, and Robotrek are so underrated. Been my some of my favorite snes games since I first played them in the 90s. They both need more love .
Very underrated for sure, or at least overlooked. Both great games with tons of charm
