We’re in the process of inventing a repair kit for this problem for the 10R140 and soon after the 10R80. It’s allows you to snap ring the bushing in place, very cheap. We should have it live soon.

Hiram inspired me to get in to transmissions and now I build these transmissions daily for a ford dealer I work for. Keep up the good work Hiram cause theres a lot of transmission guys out there that are quick to just replace instead of repairing a bad transmission. I do believe Ford is working on redesigning this drum tho.

I'm glad to hear that Ford might be working on updating the drum. Downside is you guys will see it before we do. But it's actually good news for everyone.
Changing the subject; you that works as a dealer tech can confirm the myth that everyone says "But it only has 80,000 miles, it can't be bad already..."
What's the lowest mileage you've seen in one of these? Including reflash for Drive ability issues. Or any vehicle you guys work on.
I'm glad you chose transmission repair it's kind of interesting and sometimes challenging.

This is a common issues with these units I work at a ford dealership we just replace the drum and also the e clutch drum tends to get scorn. You can move the sleeve back Into place but it will move again I had a few return after installing a new drum so it’s a flawed design, hopefully the aftermarket can come up with a solution. Plus ford has those drums on back order so good luck

I am putting a new C,D,F drum in a 10R80 now. It looks to me like there may now be a step machined on the inside of the drum that prevents the bushing from being able to walk down. This new one is p/n RFHL3P-7P182-CB where the damaged drum is RFHL3P-7P182-CA. Ford has for a long while (I’m sure you know) gone up a letter in the alphabet when the part has been redesigned….CA to CB. I can clearly see a step similar to the pump bushing in a 4L60.

I have rebuilt 2 10R80’s now, both getting C,D,F drums (updated part), outer drums, and general rebuilds w clutches, bushings, seals, etc. I’m not fast. LOL! Especially as many as I’m told some are actually doing.

I’m hoping that they have modified the offending bearing or seal during a production campaign. However, I have heard it all before. However there was the same story around the reliability of the 6 speed but I have run one for 9 years in a Ranger, towing 3.5 tons very regularly, and it has been faultless so far.

I've been getting a clunk or "tunk" noise while breaking for lights. While downshifting on 5th, 3rd and 1st. It almost sounds like a metal wire has tension on it and it keeps slipping or being pulled on from thr side like a guitar string.
No idea what's going on with the transmission but I can feel the noise in my foot and it's clearly coming from the transmission. I drive a 2022 Ford mustang mach 1 with 5k miles.
Dealership is lost. They swapped the valve body and PCM and nothing is fixed

Who's working on your truck, the dealer or a transmission shop?
Dealer usually installs a new one if they cant fix it, A transmission shop will find a way and fix it. A mechanic shop, I have no clue what they will do because they're not specialized on this type of work.
Hope you're in good hands and not at a money pit or a parts cannon shop.
Keep us posted on what whas found and how they fixed it. Concerning the magnets, I'm not sure if the sonic cleaner would damage them but I know for sure that if you hit them or bump them you'll ruin them. They go around the planet in sections of North,South. Any bump will put one of those magnets out of commission.
      Hope this helps.

I don’t mean to be an ass, but this video was 9.5 mins of just saying “this drum and bushing are bad and worn out”… zero other information on what symptoms to expect, or what would cause it🤦🏽‍♂️I honestly don’t understand the purpose of this video. And you say “this is the most common problem”, ok, great, but WHAT did t the customer say is the symptom??

Mine failed in this same manner with only 60k easy miles. The symptoms are overheating, taking a long time engaging the next gear and occasional very hard shifting.

@@MarshallM-qg5li ah, thanks. I guess that explains why my 10r80’was just replaced in November due to those symptoms.
