I haven't commented on anything about this thing, as I feel like it's not my place to accept apologies that aren't for me. I'm white, not trans (but part of the LGBT community) and feel it's not my place to be accepting those apologies from anyone.
I admit, I have had drama of my own earlier on in the year with some people from my uni's LGBT community because I knew very little and trans issues and history, and had no idea of how hard they're digging for their rights. I only became aware that some people are trans at the LGBT pride event in 2018. Ever since that time, I've been talking with my trans friends and reading more about trans issues where I am and globally.
I have also had little idea of the struggle BIPOC people go through until I went to my university's unconscious bias training, though have been on receiving end of microaggression and know how it affects people. I've been reading about BIPOC experiences and educating myself more.
It's something I hope more people do, educate others and themselves. And I hope that Angelika does take that path and educate herself. And the microaggression and racism education side of things should be what we want from her and give her ways of learning about these issues.

@@EnchantingWings1 i love how you said you took the drama you were in as an opportunity to learn and educate yourself! That’s exactly how we should behaving and it’s admirable to be able to self reflect in that way.
Obviously it’s impossible for someone to know everything about LGBT or BIPOC issues, but when we’re called out on problematic things we do/say we should be open to learning and changing instead of digging our heels in and refusing to acknowledge how our behavior could be harmful.

    • @laurabuchanan2180

Yes, (1) drama channels wanting petty revenge against (2) a non-conventional female creator (who holds herself the exceptionally high standards) find an opportunity when (3) a young female creator (aiming to hold herself to a similarly high standard) is caught "learning on the job." Marginalized people ((4)BIPOC and (5)trans communities) become the weapon of choice.
We DON'T have a widely accepted procedure for dismantling white fragility YET, so of course it is a mess when it is attempted. The 2 women are hurt, the marginalized communities are hurt, and the drama channels get what they want, for now.
As much as this was a sh*tshow, and Black women are commenting that this is all too much, when the BLM protests were happening this summer, a common refrain was "white people need to learn to talk to each other about race." Yes it is a mess because it hasn't been done in earnestly in large scale before, but I appreciate both women for speaking honestly and apparently listening to each other and learning. Don’t let the drama channels trick you into believing these women are as small as they are.

Maybe unpopular opinion; but I think SG had to address this publicly. The drama in August was public and all of the comments on on the video and the tweets were public. If she didn't address it or was vague it would look like she's ignoring the situation.
Anyone, ANYONE, can be micro-aggresive to a group you're not in no matter how hard you try not to be. I've been in an interracial relationship for years and I'm know I've said things that weren't correct, and they have said things about my sexuality that wasn't correct. What happens then? We apologise and talk about it.
Understand that no one is perfect, but getting defensive and deflecting is the worst possible way to react. Is Angelika a racist? I doubt it. Did she handle this situation in a way that makes her look that way, or at the very least like an immature brat? Yes.

That being said, forgiveness is still on the table if she shows true growth. I believe she's too close to the situation right now to see how wrong she was. We'll see though, maybe 2021 will bring about positive change.

When later asked to clarify her statements on twitter and in a livestream, she blocked people instead of addressing it. Really unfortunate to see people in these comments more worried that "youtubers are tearing each other down due to PC culture" than the fact that BIPOC and people from other marginalized communities will always be spoken over and not taken seriously because people are more worried about public perception rather than doing the right thing.
I'm glad that Hannah managed to address this situation properly after her initial less than desirable handling of it but I hope this serves as a lesson to everyone that friends are not exempt from criticism or being checked for offensive, microaggressive behavior.
Very unfortunate that Angelika waited this long to make a proper public statement and that it took something of this scale (basically something that threatened her reputation on a large scale lol) to make it worth her time to address. Though I don't know if she's grown much from this if the tweets I saw her liking a few days ago (in real-time might I add) that made it clear she viewed this as petty drama rather than her failing to address the communities she hurt says anything.

I got a bad feeling about Angelika once she quit university and started only doing drama videos in her time. Overtime her content got more and more lazy and she made wild assumptions without ever apologizing in her next videos or doing a retraction or responding to any comments. It's a classic case of you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen. She's easy to criticize Gabby Hanna for not taking an accountability immediately after something happens but when the shoes on the other foot she backtracks. I hope she learns from this and actually finds something else to do rather than reporting on internet drama for a living. Only talking about the negatives in people slowly makes you become more cynical and this is seen with a lot of other channels that have come before her. I get that it earns her a massive amount of money but it's hardly something to be proud of.

Hannah, as a bisexual black woman, I am very proud and thankful for you making this video.
POC/WOC have been having issues with Angelika for a while now as it seems. Not everyone knew what was going on, but in these past few days it's been quite evident on the POC centered channels. This situation should have never turned into drama. This entire "scandal" was started because POC had been dealing with microaggressions from Angelika. Everything should have stayed focused on that, because that is where the real problem lies. POC were trying to get attention drawn to a content creator for either having racist sentiments or prejudices, but were not being heard.
I understand the want to defend your friend when things are said about them. Or at the very least trying to get their perspective. However, I truly do respect that you actually looked into the situation yourself, and found that your friend had legitimately done/said some questionable things. I also respect that you initially tried to talk to them (to get them to understand what they did), but ultimately realized they weren't open to change.
You have every right to stop associating yourself with someone if they are doing something wrong. Or if they show certain prejudices that they aren't willing to let go. Anything that may not be were you stand morally, and make you uncomfortable. This isn't about loyalty or staying true to a friend. This is about recognizing when someone close to you may be in the wrong, and separating yourself from them because what they did is something you can't stand for.
I'm glad to see that you're willing to talk about these subjects to your audience, as well as take accountability for the way you handled things. I can't speak for all POC/WOC and say if they'll forgive/understand you, but I can say that I do. You made mistakes during this entire ordeal, but at the end of it you took responsibility. Which is more than I can say for all of the other parties involved in this, who have also had quite a few racist issues (Nick, Rich, etc.).
Please remember to take care of yourself, and continue to show your growth through your actions. Again, thank you for making a video and sharing your side of this ordeal.

Edit: Sorry for the confusion. I'm not talking about her initial pinned comment. Hannah should absolutely be held accountable of supporting another problematic influencer. I was really commenting about how harshly a lot of people were questioning her character for not wanting to support Angelika. At that point, the main issue should have been why is Angelika not clearing up the situation and taking accountability. Instead, all I saw in twitter was ppl going after her for 'being a bad friend'? It’s hard for people to let go of, that it’s not about white people being good and absolving ourselves of guilt (the census says I’m white so I’m lumping myself in there lol,) but it takes a LOT of self-reflecting to let go of that complex. "Why isn't the narrative being pushed, hey don't do shitty actions that require people to have to call you out? And if you do, own up to it so your friends don't have to call you out"
    This right here.
Honestly, best thing to do is treat people here like work friends. At arms length.

Excellent point. These people are your coworkers, your competition, and some of them, SG included, make their money talking about other people on the internet and how they conduct their business. These creators need to keep that mind.

My takeaway from this situation is that youtubers really need to do extensive research on other youtubers before deciding to befriend and collab with one another.

At this point, I kind of think that it would be better for them to just not be friends with each other. You never know what someone else is thinking and with the way the internet reacts, if they mess up and you don't call them out in public it will be as if you are condoning the person's actions

Do you even realise how unreasonable that is? I mean for soul-less collabs I guess, but friendships happen organically. Expecting people to do background checks on every potential friend is completely insane.

i’m not liking that this entire situation has become “hannah vs angelika” instead of the actual microaggressive comments angelika has made.
the drama channel people who are currently siding with angelika have also done some shady bullshit & i wish they would shut their asses up.
i also just wish that people would stop speaking over BIPOC & anyone that’s been affected by angelika’s behavior. really wish y’all would just. stop. (this is not for the BIPOC who either don’t care or disagree with myself/hannah/other BIPOC who feel similarly. you can feel how you feel, & i’m not going to disparage you from feeling how you feel.)
love you, hannah. i can tell this is really hurting you. i’ve been there. 🤍

My therapist once told me to set a 24 hour rule to respond to people who were heckling me into responding to them, whether their urgency was related to logistics or accusatory or whatnot, that being provoked into a reaction isn't the best thing for me. I think a lot more people need practice taking the time to gather themselves so they can respond to difficult communications. Things would likely have gone differently between these two if they had taken more time to figure out what the hell is going on. In the end, I know some communities were demanding to know what the stance was, however, you can't do a proper investigation and communicate well in that little time. We need to stop knee-jerking everything. Yeah, don't take months, but you can wait 24 hours and figure your shit out privately before making videos for the world to consume as drama.
