Larry invented slap bass, Mark perfected it. This collaboration is orgasmic! Legends of the funkmasters.

Larry invented the technique called, "Thumping and Plucking." Slap bass is the technique applied to upright bass, used 1st by Rockabilly bassist to get more amplified sound and to help fill the back beat!

Yes but Larry had a fuller sound. Yes they are beasts. Mark is an innovator, Larry can't be beat. But I was really proud to see Mark hold back alot and hand Larry the road & wheel. It's called true respect. Honor to them both. Very rare in any age.

Larry has been playing that same cream colored bass since he was with Sly and the Family stone. That bass is easily 60 years old. None the less. seems people are Forgetting about Louis Johnson. C'mon guys. Louis took Larry to the next level and mark is a royal torch-bearer of that school. Mark Didnt innovate anything. After Louis showed up, Stanley Clarke gave us a unique approach to the THUMB. 20 years later, Victor Wooten appeared and and pretty much destroyed the old school of slap. larry and Vic are true innovators.

I saw Larry Graham shut Jaco Pastorius down at the Ford Auditorium in Detroit. L.G. was with his group, Graham Central Station. Jaco was playing bass that night for Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters. Larry opened the show and was amazing. Absolutely incredible. Jaco came on next with Herbie. It was half way through the show before we could even identify who was playing bass.I kept thinking it was Jaco, who was still relatively new (to stardom). But there was no bravado, or excessive showmanship from Jaco. Larry had said it all.

I like Mark King also what i like about Mark also is that he plays and sings, but there is also another Bass Player who sings plays the Bass and use foot pedals all at the same time and that is Geddy Lee from Rush, I never seen Rush in Concert But I would love to see them, sometimes it can be very difficult singing and playing complex Patterns on the Bass

This video is beautiful. Such an epic music moment! Both have great talent. Is Graham right handed? King is strongly left handed. They compliment each other like puzzle pieces that fit together. Graham influenced King, collaboration is not competition, because music is art. Drummer deserves a medal for keeping up with these virtuosos. #reflexes

He would have been completely out of his element here.
Totally different style of bass playing.
      Sorry.
Slap and thump bass beastmasters right here.
Throw Flea in for John and then you'd have a 6 pack of slap bass legends.
      Although...
      Does Verdine slap?
Was not remembering that he did...?
But Bootsy Collins damn sure does.
      Hellyeah.
Slide Bootzilla Baby into Verdine's slot instead, now you're talking 6 truly legendary slap and thump bass monster madnesses.
