Mark King in my own opinion is one of the most talented musicians of all time. Not only is he an incredible bassist, but to sing aswell as playing some of the most complex bass lines, puts him on another page. Total respect to the legend he really is. 🙏👏👏👏👏👏
2:11-2:39... WOW.... My Favorite kinda thing (aside from his groovin jazz-funk rhythms) - the way Mark, THE KING, comes up with those gorgeous intervals! If that's not a song already, I wish he'd turn it into one! It's exquisite!
Show me a virtuos bass player he can play like him AND singing like him? Thats the difference! Of course there are thousands of extraordinary bass player outside.
Mark could be playing for 15 minutes and I would crawl for 15 days to get there ! The man has inspired me and I'm sure countless others to play Bass or just dig music. At the very top of my bucket list is to meet this amazing Bass player , shake his hand and if I'm really on a roll , get his autograph on one of my Bass guitars I bought new , three weeks after I heard him for the first time in 1985 !
I have met him 12 years ago at The Hague Jazz, shook his hand, got his autograph, but I forgot the most important thing. To be on a picture with him. I had the camera in my hand, but I was a bit flabbergasted. It all happened in such a short time. Now he is the only favorite bass player missing in my photo frame!
I would love to hear " Good Man In A Storm" , by this group, only with Gary Husband or Phil Gould, live of course. With those sound effects on bass. 🙂🙂🙂🙂
I love that he uses , just foot pedals and very basic ones , and not them thinny rack mounted effects units . I like the simplicity of the ground pedals, t.c are fab . Boss , too. Fair play to mark, a gifted player , and gives his time to us mere mortals ...
My god, the thing he told about using your Flashback as a practice tool is the best thing ever. Nothing is more boring than having to slap to the rhythm of a metronome! This is way more funky haha!
I love this bit, but it's not improvised - it is a section from 'the essential' from Mark's solo effort 'Influences', which is one my favorites... unbelievable tune!
Do you mean the use of a zero fret? I really just invested a minute into googling that and just skimmed the bits I saw (so no guarantee) but I think I read that it was Steinberger's idea (who've been around since 79) whereas Mark didn't start playing headless until later and with Status, of course.
He’s a great guy but anyone who says he’s a great bass player has never studied great bass players! Just watch victor wooton and you’ll see mark is a average ..
Mark king a victor Wooton are way too different to compare. Marks way of playing is more perceptive whereas victors is a more melodic way of slapping. Regardless mark king is an absolute beast of the bass world!

One of the nicest fellas I've ever had the pleasure to meet. A true musical inspiration and man can he play!!
Undoubtedly
Best Bass player AND singer!!!!! Totally AMAZING!!! And LEVEL 42 one of the best band EVER!
best singer? uh, no. Adequate, maybe.
@@malcolmtent86 I meant one of the best singer in the bass players world, for sure Glenn hughes is a better singer but he is also a worse bassist.
Mark King and Victor Wooten. Two of the greatest bassists that ever lived.
Definitely.
stanley clark
So glad to read that you all dig it so much, guys :-)
One of the most great musicians...I really love the LEVEL42 work and Mark is the King>>>>
It's truly unbelievable how good he is at slapping
The most insured thumb in the industry, lol!
Even with all the great bassists on the scene these days, Mark King is still mesmerizing. The TC effects sound fantastic!
Saw Level 42 in 1981supporting Light of the world and still love them Mark King is a legend and a funny guy too.
badman for real. Mark has ruled for years. cool dude. nice man. cool pedals.
He really is a top top musician. Naturally gifted individual. I had the pleasure of seeing him live and he is absolutely amazing

I was just thinking the sane thing!!! Iv listen too this section like 50 times
@onehope4heaven591
@jamesstanley2619
It’s part of a prog song he wrote in the 80’s called ‘The Essential’. Absolutely brilliant track!
@@rhys79 I listened to it but didn’t hear it in there for some reason
Sounds a little like some of his playing on his first solo album - Influences - it’s brilliant, and worth a listen!
I could just listen to MK noodling around forever.
We all could, Damon, we all could! :-)
I love the bit he plays from The Essential. Do you have any more of him?
Best bass player in the world
It’s taken me 2 years for this clip to come to my feed, worth the wait Mark. 🙏😀
I was lucky enough to play this bass and have a good ol chat with mr king .. top bloke 👍
best bass player on this earth still
best bass player /singer yes ! but not bass player only ! some bass players are far more good ! but mark sings at the same time, here, he is unique
Absolutely. I saw him in the eightees at the Frankfurter Music Fair first and i was shocked. He reinvents for me how to play bass.
Show me a virtuos bass player he can play like him AND singing like him? Thats the difference! Of course there are thousands of extraordinary bass player outside.
BEST EVER.
Mark King is 42 Levels above everyone else for me. Really the best of the best.

Really interesting vid! I have always wondered what all the pedals do. He is so amazing. I could watch him for hours and hours and never tire!
True legend right here

Mark King=God of Bass
Is this cool or not. Man! I could listen to him all day and night. What a great musician!
And this is just him fooling around. Amazing!!
I first saw Level 42 at Massey Hall 🇨🇦 in the 80's. I'd love fly over to England when i retire and catch them doing a few local shows.
My god, the thing he told about using your Flashback as a practice tool is the best thing ever. Nothing is more boring than having to slap to the rhythm of a metronome! This is way more funky haha!
Use a drum machine.
Mark King have the singular way for bass player. So nice.
He is sooo good.
You'll never live to see another one like him ✌️✌️🇬🇧🇬🇧
A great insight into the best bass player 👏
Genius. I knew a family member through work. Top bloke.
Sooo into his music, love MK
Mark, i love it 👍👍👍 🇩🇪
Nice little chunk from "Influences" at 2.12. Tremendous record.
What song is this section from
@@jamesstanley2619I think it's somewhere in the middle of the long track called The Essential
I saw in an interview with him were he said that he used to play drums, and contributes that skill to his style of bass playing.
The guy is one of a kind !!
I love this guy!!!
Mark has amazed me for decades...and he still does!
Great tippers all around!
I like the tape to keep them insolent knobs from being knobs.
Mark King is top of the world, I love him!! ✌️😙
I think Polish bassist,Wojtek Pilichowski is a huge fan of Mark King, his style is so similar!
He inspired himself on Mark's style.
Never been a Level 42 fan but I am a Mark King fan he seems a genuinely nice fella.
master of ,master
🔥🔥🔥
The legend
the king of bass
what settings is he using on the flashback pedal????? thanks tc for wonderfull gear!
Mark is a National Treasure...
Only absolutely and extremely talented guys would be able to improvise what here it shows from 2:11 to 2:39....it's unbelieveble....
I love this bit, but it's not improvised - it is a section from 'the essential' from Mark's solo effort 'Influences', which is one my favorites... unbelievable tune!
Bro I have replayed that section so many times ! It’s amazing
whats the flashback setting Mark is using?? got them all but vortex but goona get it now! thanks tc !!!
I love how us brits say "you know" after every sentence
English. Americans call us 'brits'
Love the Chelsea boots, Mark :-)
He's a slap machine
Dear Lord I wish I was a fraction as good as him !
my hero!!!
Cool dude
Man Mark really likes playing The Essential.
Adoro esses caras!
Better start working on the filter pedal TC...
I really want to hear Mark play the “Seinfeld” theme.
what song was he playing when he used the chorus?
1 of 2 my fav basist him and victor wooten
the boy has a future......
Is the behind the nut section on a headless bass of Mark's original idea?
Great question, we'd have to ask him!
Do you mean the use of a zero fret?
I really just invested a minute into googling that and just skimmed the bits I saw (so no guarantee) but I think I read that it was Steinberger's idea (who've been around since 79) whereas Mark didn't start playing headless until later and with Status, of course.
Nvm what I just said, only just saw that bit on a pic of his signature, that actually is quite unique.
It IS his idea. Its called a bending well.
TC guys never got an answer..am a TC electrinics pedals freak fan and need the flashback delay Mark is using in this video....!!! please!!!!
Jaco just appeared out of those notes.
My Man Crush
.... What about the rest of the pedals?
What is that bass, a Status?
Looks like his Status signature bass.
It's amazing how just when you think you've heard the best bass player in the world 🌎 along comes someone else 😂😂😂😂
2:14..."the corona chorus'....?

He still makes me wet my knickers 😍
Mark King, aka, #BigCheesyFeet.

No compressor??
It's built into his Blacksmith amp 🙂
Funk Meister... you need Tap Tempo:)
# BigCheesyFeet
He said that good for practice? Is that part for practice then it's mean that he is a demigod

いやどうなっとんねん
